Difference in method of outgoing voice-PLEASE HELP iphone

Im curious if anyone knows if there is different hardware used for outgoing voice when switching from normal talk mode to speakerphone. Im having a problem with my 3G iphone (version 2.2 software) that could be software or hardware related but Im not sure. Basically, outgoing voice is fine over speakerphone (on EDGE and 3G) and WiFi (using Truphone app) but garbled over EDGE and 3G in normal talk mode. Anyway, if anyone can explain the differences between the outgoing voice in each mode it could probably help me resolve the problem or at least narrow it down before swapping out the hardware for no reason.Thanks. My Microphone wont work during calls iphone 3G

Im having an odd problem with my iphone--I can hear people when they call me or when I call them, but they cant hear me unless I use my bluetooth headset. I first cleaned out the headset port with blasts of compressed air but no change. Next I did a reset, then finally a complete restore, but no dice.Even more strange is that I can still use the microphone with Google to do voice searches. So, no phone calls, but I can use the Google app. Is there anything else I have forgotten to do? It seems to be a software issue. 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo Black MacBook Mac OS X (10.5.6)

Activation screen comes up on an already activated phone iphone 3G

Ive had an active iphone 3g since July. Twice in the last 24 hrs: once when home button pressed to awaken after just being in my pocket and the other time when powering on after being off for the night, I got the screen graphic showing connect to iTunes to activate (graphic of cord and iTunes logo) as if the phoe were brand new, with no service and only the ability to make a emergency call from the keypad (after slide). Luckily I was near my computer both time but may not be if it happens again. Once attached to computer and device recognized by iTunes, the phone screen says iphone activated and everything is back to normal. All my apps, tunes, contacts, etc are still there.I take real good care of the phone. Never dropped; usually in my pocket when not in use. software says up-to-date.Never happened previous to yesterday and nothing different that day. Anyone else having this issue? Any recommendations? Apple support said to restore the phone via iTunes. What a hassle, with all the backing up I have to do. But if that is the only recourse, Ill have to do. Its like, well weve never heard of that one so just restore it - an easy answer. Any other ideas that are not so drastic? iphone

Why my phone say Call Failed when dialing number iphone 3G

Ok, Im using 2.2 software version on my iphone 3G. Its not unlocked or anything. The problem started last night, when I tried to call someone in my contact list. Ill dial the number and it automatically goes to Call Failed, it doesnt dial or even attempt to. I can sends text messages, receive phone calls, and get online. Just cant make phone calls.Heres what I did to try to fix it.First I cut the phone off and powered back on. Then tried a soft reset by holding the home button and power button down. After that didnt work I restored it to factory settings, which didnt work. Then I restored from a backup, but it didnt work either. Ive tried everything people have said on the internet, that doesnt require unlocking the phone.Please help!!!!**edit** - Ive also removed the SIM and restored to factory settings. iphone Outgoing Voice Garbled on 3G and EDGE

About 3 days ago, I started to experience an issue with my 3G iphone running 2.2 software. On incoming and outgoing calls I can hear the person on the other end but my voice is garbled and/or filled with a lot of static. This occurs on both the AT&T EDGE and 3G networks with and without the factory-provided headset. However, if I switch the speakerphone function on, both parties can hear each other normally. What I thought was particularly interesting is that when I use Truphone to make a VoIP call, everything functions normally as well. While I first thought that this could be some sort of hardware issue, the last test made it seem more along the lines of a software problem. I have powered on/off the phone, rebooted the phone, restored it to backup and restored to a new phone all with the same result. Has anyone else experienced this issue and been able to resolve it? I have an appointment at the Genius Bar on Friday but am hoping to be able to resolve this on my own.Thanks. HP Windows XP

Restoring as new device it download new software iphone

Ive been having various problems even after restoring from backup multiple times. At the Apple store, I was told to restore and select setup new device instead of restoring from backup, incase my backup was corrupted. The rep told me that iTunes would download fresh copies of the operating software, firmware and all apps. Is this true? At no point during the process did iTunes appear to be downloading anything. WOW I hate App Store software updates iphone 3G

Does anyone elses phone take forever to update an application? Has anyone else updated an App only have it send your phone into a reset? I just updated Texas Holdem on my phone. After 10 minutes of waiting for the thing to update, I re-synced my phone so it would copy onto my iMac and WOW, a half hour later and the meter hasnt budged. Not to mention that I had to make more the 245mb of memory available to upgrade a 129mb app(according to the app store). Whats that all about?! Problem updating to 2.2 iphone 3G

1. I have now updated my iphone three times. This last update was to 2.2 from 2.1. My Lenovo X300 WIN XP PRO will not finish the installation it just hangs checking the phone. I have to connect the phone to another computer preferably a Mac and then complete the recovery process. I know many others have had this problem. Any hope for a solution?2. The second problem was the most frustrating. After updating to 2.2 my downloaded programs had disappeared. During the software upgrade process it did a successful backup and I restored after updating (otherwise I wouldn’t have had my contact music etc.). Reboot iphone once day

So I got my new 3G iphone one week before XMAS and after a couple of days I noticed that: 1. my phone is unresponsive after finishing a call. (requires a reboot occurs at least once a day)2. Apps close all of a sudden when in use. I took my iphone to the apple store last week to the King of Prussia store and I was told that this was occurring because the iphone software was corrupted and that a system restore would fix this. A couple of hours later the same problems kept occurring. I restored my phone two more times at home, but I still kept having the same problems. I also synch my phone daily. I made another appoint for today and a different guy at the genius bar told me that this occurring because my system memory is low and that caused my reboots. He even said that everyone that has an iphone or any smartphone should reboot their phone daily. I was really puzzled and upset that he told me I have to reboot my phone once a day. I have never heard this before and I wanted to know if other people have been told this, or was this guy just full of it. My iphone was replaced and I have not seen this problem occur so far. Does anyone know if iphone has a way to change boring ringtones for incoming e-mail or text message to a custom ringtone. I have custom tones that say you have mail or message and would like to change them. I can not find if it is possible to do this. iphone 3G Speaker phone microphone mute issue

I have noticed a fault with my iphone 3G when I use Speakerphone. As soon as I select Speakerphone mode I can hear the caller but the caller cannot hear me. They hear no sound, not even faintly. The microphone seems to mute. However, when I switch back and put the unit up to me ear, they can hear me and I can hear them. When I got the iphone this function definitely worked. I now mostly use a Bluetooth headset so only recently (post software 2.2 upgrade) noticed the speakerphone defect. It sounds like a software defect rather than a microphone fault to me. Have tried a Restore but this has not cured the problem. Has anybody had a similar problem? I will call O2/Carphone Warehouse if nobody has encountered this issue, however, when I contacted them to question the lack of PUSH e-mail, before the last software upgrade, O2 tried to tell me that it was my e-mail provider that was at fault! Synching Irritations. iphone 3G

Two really annoying things that continue to drive me up the wall:1) Every time I want to transfer pictures onto my phone or maybe just even one new song, why does iTunes force me to do a complete backup of my phone? What would take 10 seconds ends up taking 20 minutes for absolutely no reason.2) Why when I opt NOT to sync ALL of my apps, does it tell me it will REMOVE Them from my phone completely? No! Why would I want them DELETED? Since when does not copying over something that is ALREADY ON THE PHONE mean that I want them deleted completely from the phone? It doesnt make any sense. None. If I dont have them all checked, it will delete the one not checked.I tried to NOT sync my apps so that I could speed up the process of just syncing my photos. So it tells me its going to delete all my apps if I do that. iTunes is such a miserable failure in the world of Apple/Mac which dominates the logic/useability world in every other arena. It continues to confound me the absolute poor structure, logic, and programming of their flagship software app.I mean seriously, how hard is it for this application to know that its already got all my apps both in itunes and on the phone? Every time I connect it, it starts copying over my apps all over again. Why? Is this 1983 when it cant tell if the app has been updated and needs synching? If someone can give me some input on these items I would appreciate it. VAIO

I bought an iphone 3G several months ago and the earbud stopped allowing me to answer calls by pressing the button on the earphones or pause music. I purchased a new set and shortly after the button stopped working on the new set too. Is this a problem with software or hardware?

iphone top sleepwake button not working Apple Logo screen at startup

I have the original iphone. I have two problems, both just happened tonight at the same time. For seemingly no reason just my iphone external top sleep/wake button is not working. I tried powering the phone off and back on. I tried resetting my iphone, and restoring it. I made sure my iphone software is up to date. None of these remedies have fixed the button. The button doesnt look broken, it pushes in and out, it just doesnt work anymore. Second problem is, after I power my iphone off and then back on, the Apple logo screen will continue to flash on and off indefinitely. The only way to get my home screen to appear is to connect my iphone to my computer. Then it wants to sync. After syncing it then asks if I want to power off or cancel. Huh, why does is it doing that? To turn my iphone off I am pressing my Home button down until it shuts off, since I cant power off with the top black button. Is that the reason my phone is having the second problem, because I am powering off with the Home button? Could it be my second problem is not a problem?My iphone 1 year warranty is over. I cant call Apple Care, there is no apple store near me. I need a solution I can do at home myself. Please help. Even if you think the answer is obvious please suggest it to me. Before tonight nothing was wrong with my iphone. It all started after I let my 6 and 7 year old nephews play with Google Maps on my phone for like 10 minutes - supervised. after several months of having my iphone, and it breaking, I went in to the apple store to speak to an iphone Genius. The name of his job title, aside from being very arrogant, was far from the truth!!Anyway, he couldnt answer my questions, and suggested i should post them to apple. The iphone either lacks a lot of features which even my first Nokia had, or i just cant find them. Wonder if anyone can help:Forwarding Texts:cant forward a text. This is annoying, as if someone sends me some info in a text i wish to send on, i cant see how to forward, nor how to copy and paste the info into a new txt.Red Button:Wheres the reject call button? If my phone is on the lock screen when it rings, the only option I have is to answer or silence it. Silencing the ringing is no good, as people often hang up before Voicemail kicks in.Snoozing Reminders:if i have a calendar reminder, cant see how you snooze it. Missed loads of appointments and reminders with this one. Very easy to loose the reminders from the screen, and then not see them.There are so many more things that thoroughly disappoint me about this phone - the bluetooth stack, the 3G/GSM implementation, cant change the home screen background from black, cant have your own ringtones - or even set a MP3 song which you have bought on itunes as a ring tone, etc etc.However, these are more annoyances than show stoppers.I hope someone can help with the top three above, or maybe, someone in apple might see this post and suggest to include these rudimentary features that have been present in phones since mobiles went digital in the next software release. Why are Safari and iPod applications so linked iphone

Does anyone know why the iphone applications, Safari and iPod, are so linked?Ever since the very original 1.0 iphone, crashes in Safari have wreaked havoc with the iPods database that lets it keep track of where you are in a song and what has been played when. Even in the newest version of the iphone software and on an iphone 3G, this is a problem.Yes, things have gotten somewhat better. Safari crashes less often than it used to (although still quite often enough). If Safari crashes while you are listening to a song, it will probably keep its place. However, if you dont have something playing in the iPod application, and Safari crashes, it is likely that the iPod will forget where you were if you stopped in the middle of a song in the middle of a playlist. It also forgets which podcasts were listened to already, and it loses track of last-played and playcount information when it is next synced.Ive been with the iphone since the beginning, and upgraded to a 3G as soon as I could. I sync it pretty regularly. Ive been through two original iPhones (bad audio jack on one after several months) and two 3Gs (locked up in the connect to iTunes screen, and even an Apple Genius couldnt get it to exit that mode). Also, Ive used a few Macs over all this time (one at a time) to run iTunes and sync. So I know this happens on multiple iPhones, multiple computers, and multiple copies and versions of iTunes.Its so frustrating that I cant use the iPhones iPod feature as it is intended. I find myself often bringing a nano along just because I know it will properly track my activities and hold my place. Thats hardly what was intended.Is it really that hard for Apple to protect the song information and separate it from Safari crashes? How does Safari crash in a way that it corrupts the song activity information? I dont see any other databses (such as mail, contacts, notes, or the files affiliated with other applications) being wrecked by Safari crashes.I can deal with the Safari crashes. Theyre a pain, but you kind of get used to them. (Even though, 18 months from introduction, its pretty amazing they are still so frequent.) I want copy and paste badly on the iphone. But I want an iPod that works even more. Removing Passcode from iphone when using Exchange e-mail

I have an I-Phone 3g with the current version of the software. I recently added my works Exchange email accesss and when I did the iphone required a passcode.I went to SETTINGS - GENERAL - PASSCODE LOCK it shows it is on.I hit the tab, enter my passcode, click OK and under REQUIRE PASSCODE it shows Immediately. I can change the time to a longer period before is requests the passcode 1 min or 5 minutes - but I cannot disable it!Nor can I remove the ERASE DATA ofter three successive trys.To add insult to injury, I accidentally hit the Emergency Call button on the passcode screen, canceled it and when I entered my passcode it did not recognize it. I cleared out the old code, re-entered the correct code and it still did not recognize my passcode. Then it ERASED ALL MY DATA on the third unsuccessful attempt.I restored from my December 31, backup on Itunes, (45 minutes later) I tried the same thing to see if it was recurring and it was. This time I did not try to enter the code a third time, I turned off the iphone, and then restarted it. Thankfully it reset the memory or something and the correct code (which I had been entering all along) was accepted. This is happening every time the Emergency Call button is pressed on the passcode screen. I have found a temporary workaround, but this needs to be fixed on about three levels.FIRST - The passcode needs to work when returning from an emergency call.SECOND - We should be ale to decide if we want a passcode on our phone and not have it forced upon us.THIRD - If this is for e-mail security, then the passcode should only be required when accessing the e-mail application not the entire phone.So, comments suggestions, or any ideas are greatly appreciated, I want to remove that passcode.....help.I want to remove the requirement for the passcode, but I can only change the passcode, nor disable it, any suggestions? Error Sending Message iphone

This popped up almost a week ago now - last Friday. I compose a text, tap send and it gives me the little progress bar, moves as if its going to send, and then stops about 1/8th to 1/6th of the way and I get a little message where it usually says sending that says Error Sending MessageAll my googling has come up with people experiencing this on jailbroken iPhones or when they have a momentary drop in service (at which point they just hit send again). But I can receive texts just fine. All other operations on the phone are fine - sending/receiving emails, placing/receiving phone calls, etc.There was some mention of a possibly incorrect SMS Service Center Number...? I realize this isnt an AT&T forum, but Im hoping someone out there can help.At the Genius Bar, they said they thought it was an AT&T issue. I went to the AT&T store, where they called the iphone troubleshooting hotline. The iphone Troubleshooting guy didnt know what was going on, and suggested swapping to a new SIM card. So, we tried a new SIM card and we tried someone elses SIM card in my iphone....still nada.Which makes me think its software...? Yellow Tint issue iphone 3G

Then moments upon boot, I started noticing this feint flickering, each time it flickered (as it still does) the screen would be brighter but not by the normal brightness settings... and it had a yellow tint to it compared side-by-side of my normal other iphone.So I explored more, and since they have both already been opened before, I reopened them and tested a theory. If this iphone has a yellow screen, maybe the screen needs replacing. I take them both apart, swap the screens, and voila!...... still Yellow?! Hmm, so the screens not the problem...Now Im even more puzzled, because Ill just be staring at the flickering, so faintly but distinguishable. And if I catch the right moment for a split second it flashes totally normal, then back... its so brief, but does this mean theres software fix potential in this?I know nothing about what to do next. Apple, the Community, someone point me in the right direction. Obviously the reason I seek help is because these iPhones have been opened before, but only to switch screens and never deeper. Registering my iphone 3G

I have tried to register my new iphone following the directions in the user manual using iTunes on my Mac G4 PPC. When my iphone is connected to iTunes, it tells me to register my phone but only gives me a Register Later button to click on. questions about an unlocked ATT iphone 3G

Hi guys, my father bought an iphone from the US, locked to AT&T, he gave it to a friend here to unlock it, now the iphones unlocked by using the GEVEY-3G sim (its very thin and has a visible IC) which is put below the network sim in the sim holder of the iphone, now the thing worked once, but when i changed the sim and put mine it didnt, used the first sim that previously worked, still it didnt, does that additional sim work only once? is faulty? or should I just try again? also, what about the software, i dont know if its jail-broken but the guy added some applications and for some unkown reason, they used to work and suddenly they close once they open, some still work normally, I need to update to the new firmware anyway, can I do so? or will it get the phone locked again? does using that gevey 3g thing need any alteration with the software? I am not getting my SMS all of a sudden. I can send one to myself and its there, but if I send one out it says that it went, but I they are not receiving it. You know when you get one you get the number indicator that you have one and how many over the icon, I am not getting that. Cannot hear phone calls iphone

Hi, I have an iphone 3G thats been fine til today. When I use the phone, I cant hear anything. The caller, however, can hear me. The speaker in the phone is fine; I can play songs and hear them fine over the phones speaker. The problem seems to be only when I use the actual phone. When I press speakerphone during a call nothing happens then either. Its as though the act of using the device as a phone kills the speaker. As soon as I hang up the call, I can hear the speaker again.Ive been through the troubleshooting tips... Turned off bluetooth, use earphone jack to make sure no dirt is built up in the headphone jack...(Its a clean iphone!) Ive done the two-fingered reset -- all to no avail. All the audio works except the telephone and even though the call completes - and the person on the other end can hear me - I cant hear a thing. Theres no sound at all... no hiss, nothing, when the phone is in use.Apart from the phone/audio anomaly, everything else is working fine. Have I done something stupid? (Yes, Ive tried cutting the volume up and no, it doesnt say headphone when I do) I rarely use a bluetooth headset (bluetooths now off anyway) and havent had my phone connected to anything other than my MBP to charge the battery. The area I live in doesnt support 3G, so thats turned off to save battery power.And if no one might know of a cure, where the heck do I get my phone fixed? I bought it at an AT&T store... will they take care of it if necessary? Online, it appears that Apple will let me see if its under warranty by keying in my phones serial number (and it is!) but then stops there... Wouldnt it be great if they had a link from that warranty status page to either an 800 number or some kind of email tech support... or anything useful? I would imagine the need for support is the #1 reason people look to see if they have time left on their warranty. Its almost as if Apple thinks the iphone is infallible and will never need service because they sure dont like to tell you how they go about fixing one if need be.Sorry - rant over. Im just glad I kept my land line. Any help or advice on where I might get service - assuming its not something silly Ive done that I can fix - would be greatly appreciated. I have the original iphone, so why is it when u do the software update it doesnt update the keyboard? As in options for the smiley faces, hearts, etc....

What I Want as if cares iphone

At least a second cell phone from Apple. There is the iPod mini, nano, classic and touch. There is the Mac and the iMac. There is the MacBook and the MacBook pro. I think it they should have at least two models of cell phones one being the iphone. The second (if it were up to me) something not so wonderful as the I phone but competent. Not the big screen or the thousands of apps or even the touch screen. I just want something I can sync contacts and appointments (includng todos) to without the need of third party software. Something with a user replacable battery, mp3 player and bluetooth (A2DP would be cool).Im just saying. iMac Mac OS X (10.4.11)

iTunes just deleted all my apps AGAIN iphone

Is there any other program out there to sync the iphone to my music (I dont buy iTunes cause I like to listen to it on more than one computer!) Can I update the iphone software without having to use iTunes. I dont even want that spyware on my computer any more. Nothing but issues.I updated the iphone software and it deleted all my apps. New iphone 3G Needs Update to 2.2

I have a brand new iphone 3G and it has version 2.1 software installed. I also have an iPod Touch that has been updated to 2.2. When I connected the iphone to iTunes tonight, I thought it might be able to use the 2.2 download I alredy had for the touch, but it wants to download it again. 3g iphone and Universal Dock with Remote

I bought a Universal Dock with Remote. According to Apple the Dock is suppose to work with the 3G phone but when I hook it up it tells me it is not compatible with the 3g phone and asks me to switch to Airplane mode. Has anyone else had this issue. I talked to an apple rep on line before I bought it and was told it should work with the 3G. Could this be from the latest software update. I have 2.2 on the phone. Cannot connect to iTunes for first time. Help iphone 3G

Im an original iphone user. I bought a 3G for my girlfriend and tried to hook it up to iTunes for the first time on her HP Pavilion dv2000 laptop (Windows Vista Home Premium, Service Pack 1). When I connect the phone, it says This iphone cannot be used because the required software is not installed. Then it asks me to uninstall and reinstall iTunes. Fine, no problem. Ive done it a million times, Ive uninstalled Quicktime, Ive tried so many things. Ive Googled for hours and have seen similar problems. The only difference between her problem and the rest is that the Apple Mobile Device does not show up in the task manager and does not seem to be installed. Every solution Ive come across says to restart the AMD, or to uninstall the AMD (along with iTunes) and reinstall it. However, it doesnt even exist on her computer at all. For some reason, it wont install when I install iTunes. Im exhausted from looking for an answer. Can anyone help? Thank you mucho! HP Windows Vista

iphone wont turn off

Hi -My 1st generation iphone (fully updated and never jailbroken) wont turn off anymore. Holding the power button gets the Power Off slider, but it seems to crash half way through powering down and then just reboots again.The phone, when the screen is turned off, also seems to power up the screen every 60 seconds causing the phone to run out of battery power over night even if it had been full charge beforehand.Ive tried fully reinstalling the iphone software but that didnt help.Has anyone else had these problems or know how to fix it?Cheers, Andy MacBook Pro (Late 2008) Mac OS X (10.5.5)
