iphone 3G frozen after recent OS update. Now stuck on restore

Today I updated my iphones OS (original OS - not jailbroken) and after having downloaded the new OS, itunes attempted to install the new OS onto my 3G iphone. when the phone freezes, it has an apple logo and progress bar on the screen. It ALWAYS freezes at approximately 20% according to the phone screen. itunes freezes at 50% when it is restoring iphone software.I have restarted my iphone over 3 times (by pressing and holding down both the power and the circle button) and the phone does restart but tells me to plug it into itunes. when I plug it into my computer and connect to itunes, itunes tells me i need to:check the iphone software update server to identify this deviceI click check and this works ok. However another error message pops up that says:itunes has detected an iphone in recovery mode. You must restore this phone before it can be used in itunes.I click ok and then press restore and it seem sto work except that it freezes again as i described above.Ive noticed other people are experiencing similar problems and wondered if they have found any solutions to this? Would really appreciate ANY help as at this state, my iphone is BRICK that doesnt work as either a phone, gaming console, or organiser.I am very disappointed with Apple for releasing an OS that in effect disables the core purpose of the iphone (a PHONE!!!) and now have lost confidence in their products. iphone 3G very unhappy custome

On new iOS updates iphone 3G

Im running on iOS 4.0.1 and downloaded the 4.0.2 in itunes (but NOT installed in my iphone yet, its just downloaded). So everytime I click the Update button, it tells me if I want to install the 4.0.2 update that has been downloaded days ago. I decided not to install it since iOS 4.1 is coming.My question is, when iOS 4.1 becomes available from the Apple server and I click Update, will itunes detect the new 4.1 and overwrite 4.0.2 stored in my itunes? Or do I need to install 4.0.2 in my iphone first to give way for itunes to detect 4.1 for download?Thanks in advance! HP SlimLine Windows Vista

iphone crash after trying to ugrade itunes operating system

My girlfriend and I both have iphone 3Gs. Last night she attempted to upgrade the software, which apparently prompted her to download the newest version of itunes. After a couple of attempts, we finally got itunes downloaded (presumably). The phone was plugged in and updating all night, but as of this morning will not operate because it requires itunes 9.2 or greater. She has apparently tried to restore it to its previos OS just to get it to work to no avail. Any suggestions? Im no computer guru but my girlfriend can usually work through these issues. While making calls I hear buzz sound with turned off 3G. iphone 4

I never had this with my 2G Blackberry Curve in the same areaI live in an area where 2G is stronger than 3G (I seem to get 1 more bar when I turn off 3G). However, once I do that I get a weird buzz sound (like there was a static interference). Its the same kind of sound you here from computer speakers when you place a phone near them. But I tested it away from potential interference sources. Once I turned on 3G, the voice was clean and there was no more buzz sound! I hear those sounds on low when I put to phone to my head. when use speakerphone I hear no static sounds. I had Blackberry Curve 8310 before with ATT that did calls on 2G only and had never this issue. I am using phone without case waiting for a free one in the mail, but I dont hold the bottom and it still does that. Should I take it to Apple Store and diagnose it? itunes 10 fix for 3g iphone 3G

Hi, can anyone advise please? Will i need to install iTunes10 before i can use the new fix for 3G tomorrow or will i be ok not to. iphone 4 falls into DFU mode all time

Hi!got my iPhone4 a little longer than a month. Since approx. two weeks it falls into DFU mode everytime i lock it and wait about 10-15 minutes to unlock it again. i cant tell the exact amount of time it takes to fall asleep - it may take longer when email arrives in the meantime...the problem doesnt appear then the phone is wired to a computer or jack. It is also hard to get out of this mode. sometimes it takes me 3 or 4 times pressing both buttons for 10 seconds to reactivate it.i tried to reinstall it (also without restoring from backup) several times - using two different macs. no change. Whatever - the phone did not drop or anything. except the described issue it is in top condition. is there anything else i could try? is this a known issue? or is my only chance to send it back to apple?thx in advanceT. iPhone4 iOS 4

itunes 10 not recognize my iphone 3G 8GB iOS 4.0.2

I just recently updated to itunes 10 on my PC (Windows XP) and for some reason it will sync with my iPod Classic (120 GB) just fine like it always has before BUT when I try to sync my iphone 3G (8GB) which has the current iOS 4.0.2, for some reason it will charge my iphone but itunes WILL NOT recognize it at all. Ive tried uninstalling and reinstalling itunes 10, Ive restarted my computer and my iphone several times and nothing happens, any solutions?? iphone 3G iOS 4 8GB

Its not exactly iPhones problem, its with the itunes. So here it is, Ive changed my country from US to Thailand because I moved back. Then I cant get my apps update on my itunes anymore, true that some can download by the phone but if the app is so big, itll take be like forever. It happened to be a problem with Thai store because when I tried to update, itd say no updates available, then I changed the country to the US. And it found everything that needed to update, but when I clicked it just said youre have to be in Thai store only to update. I was like what? What else can I do? Ive never had this problem before, its just a Thai stores problem. Please help, and suggest what can I do, where can I report to get this fix? Thanks.

I have an iphone 3G running iOS4.01 and the latest version of itunes.I dont know how it started. I was updating to itunes 10 and I lost power to my computer (iphone was not connected at the time). After a reboot, I uninstalled itunes because it would no longer run (shutdown in middle of installation does that). Then I downloaded and installed itunes 10.0.0.68. Everything seemed fine. I even bought a song or two. I wanted to sync that song to my iphone so I connected it to my computer. I have set custom sounds in windows so that it lets me know when a device connects. The connect sound plays but the iphone does not start to charge, nor does itunes pop open, nor does windows explorer pop open with device options. Nothing happens.So I open up devices and it shows me the usual stuff but categorized under unknown is Apple Mobile Device USB or something like that with a warning explanation point ! next to it telling me that there is an error with it. So I right click and select troubleshoot. Cant fix problem. So I open up the (almost) never failing google and start searching. I find a mind-boggling amount of cases similar but usually with an iPod not an iphone and those were solvable. I finally get to one that says that I should try resetting my iphone and making connect in recovery mode. So I hold the power and home buttons down until the iphone turns off. I open itunes, hold down the home button and connect the iphone. The Connect to itunes screen appears... and nothing happens. Not immediately, not after 30 minutes. Nothing (except for the iphone timing out and powering off again). So then I take a huge leap of faith and decide to actually use apples support page. After sorting through stuff designed for the mentally challenged who cannot locate the home button, I find http://support.apple.com/kb/ts1538 .This is exactly the problem I am having and yet following the instructions brings up problems That I havent seen before.So I follow the instructions like a good dog and locate the driver under Universal Serial Bus controllers and as per the instructions I uninstalled it. I then Scan for hardware changes. This is where the instructions start to seem non applicable. As it said it would, scanning for hardware changes found and installed drivers from the iphone. But instead of installing the Apple Mobile Device driver, I now have a device under portable devices called Apple iphone.This seemed fine but...itunes still failed to recognize it. Windows seemed to think that the device is some sort of camera (applying a camera icon to it in the simple device manager). Windows explorer popped up this time and I can see all the photos on my iphone and copy them and all but it still wants to think this is a camera. The iphone charges now at least.The instructions continue and I try to follow. It says to search for updates to the Apple Mobile Device driver. Because this is not there and there seems to be no way of getting it there, I apply this to the Apple iphone under Portable Devices. Everything seems to run smoothly until: Click the Browse button, then navigate to the following location: C:Program FilesCommon FilesAppleMobile Device SupportDrivers. it seems to tell me that if I am on a 64-bit edition of windows (as I am) I should search for it under C:Program Files (x86)Common FilesAppleMobile Device SupportDrivers. but in that location the drivers folder in that location doesnt exist (I dont have 32-bit itunes installed I guess.) So I go to the C:Program FilesCommon FilesAppleMobile Device SupportDrivers directory instead and not only does the folder exist but the file is there too. The file usbaapl64 is there and the instructions seem to imply that I should use it if I am 64-bit windows. So I try to use it.BAM! Another problem: The folder you specified doesnt contain a compatible software driver for your device. If the folder contains a driver (which it does), make sure it is designed to work with Windows for x64-based systems.Seriously. What do I do now? Modified HP Pavillion Elite iOS 4 Windows 7 64 bit.

iphone wiped out after update to 4.0 failed

I connected to itunes and was advised of update 4.0 (or something similar) so clicked on update. After some 20+ minutes I received a message saying update had failed. To maintain battery health wiPhone it best to leave plugged in or not

So I know for best battery life one should power cycle monthly, but is it better to leave the unit NOT plugged in and wait until night (or every other night) for battery health and maintenance or would it be better to plug it in when I get home early, in my car adapter, or even at work when Im next to a computer? Im not very familiar with batteries anymore and wasnt sure which route is better with Apples technology. A friend has given me her new iphone 4 and asked if I can sync her old iphones content over to the new handset. (contacts, apps,music, etc)However, she has already tried herself and so the iphone4 is already recognised by itunes. itunes 10 audio size increase while syncing iphone 4

Im not sure whether this is an issue with itunes 10, or with my phone, but whenever I perform a sync, the amount of storage allocated to audio on the device momentarily increases for the duration of the sync operation. I have 12.9GB of audio on the phone, but during the sync operation, this increases to 14.6GB (shown via the coloured bar in itunes). As soon as the sync completes, it returns to its original value of 12.9GB. Is anyone else seeing this, or is it just my iphone? Windows 7 Iphone4 32GB

Syncing iphone changes my clock and timezone

Every time I sync my iphone with my computer, it will change my clock and the timezone. I re-checked every setting on the iphone and itunes and everything seems fine. What can I do so this doesnt happen again? Because its very annoying to change back the clock every time or use it with the wrong time. Granted, the difference is just one hour forward, but still... 2nd iphone 4 with issues

Hi, I am on my second iphone 4 with the following issues:Bad coverage, my iphone 3G could make and recieve calls where this one cant.when connected to my car kit on bluetooth, the audio quality is shocking. Intermittantly when I recieve calls and answer them the phone continues to make short ring tones while the call is connected.when I move off a wifi network on to 3G then on to a different Wi-Fi network I have to restart the iphone before it will connect to a wifi network.I have tested all the issues above with other phones - they test fine with a Nokia E63 and a Blackberry bold - So its definitely the iphone 4.Im really dissapointed with apple, and dont feel that i can trust any of their other products after this.Im really frustrated as Vodafone keep saying there are no issues with the iphone.Is anyone experiencing the above, and have any ideas of how to fix it?Thanks Dell E6510 Windows 7 IOS 4.0.1 iphone 3G

Red light on next to earpiece iphone 3G

Okay, heres the story: My friend spilt water on me and a little bit on my phone. Immediately, I tried drying it off and the phone was working fine. Later that evening, when I would try to use my phone by pressing the Wake/Sleep button, the screen would come up, but would quickly start to fade away. The phone then turned off completely. I noticed that there was a very small red light on next to the earpiece. It looked like a C with a dot in the middle. I also noticed that the area around the earpiece was very hot. After this, I tried plugging my phone into the wall. I tried taking the SIM card for a bit, I put the phone in some rice, and I plugged it into my MacBook (but the phone wouldnt even show up in my itunes). The light has turned off and the phone is no longer hot, but the phone still wont turn on.Could anyone shed some light on what to do now?

Downloading Times Out HELP iphone 4

when i try to restore my iphone itunes gets to Preparing iphone for restore and the iphone goes to the apple logo for about 10 sec then a small loading circle appears at the bottom of the screen and it stays at this forever or until i hold down home + power button to restart it but after 15 minutes itunes comes up with error 1603 but i have tried everything on their site to fix that with no luck.Any ideas what i can do to try fix this?N.B. iPod icon on iphone 4 multitasking bar gone after upg to itunes 10

This is a strange issue. I recently upgraded to itunes 10 and have subsequently synced my iphone 4. I noticed just today (Saturday, 9/4) that the iPod app that existed on the Multitasking bar (swipe all the way left where the iPod controls and the orientation lock are) is no longer the iPod app but the itunes app. Ive tried to remove that or replace it or whatever but that doesnt seem possible. I last used the iPod app from that location just last Wednesday (9/1).Did Apple change that or have I inadvertently done something? And how can I change it back??? Just got my phone and just got it activated- connected to my work wifi, and the phone shows the signal as full tilt, but- when I open safari it switches to 3g.Turning off 3g forces it to edge, turning off edge/cellular data (with wifi shown full strength) gives the not connected error.Have reset/rebooted/etc phone- cannot do so to internet, but have confirmed it working fine. iphone 4-Wifi Password Problems

My home has an apple router, so I never had this problem until this week.I cannot logon to most wifi spots. The phone sees the router, but gives the following error: Incorrect password for router. The password is correct, but I can connect with my computer or others phones, not the Iphone4. I have tried a dozen spots, houses, cafes, airports etc.. and I could get one or two to work. Hotmail not sync normal iphone 4

I have two email accounts on my iphone 4. One is Hotmail and the other one is a company Exchange Account email. when I delete an email on the Exchange Account on my PC Outlook (or webmail), it will be deleted on the iphone. Same for any change made to the accounts Calendar and Contacts. But when I delete an email from Hotmail on my computer, it remains on my iphone. Is this normal? iMac

Hi, this has probably been asked but I have not found a good answer. I got a new laptop and want to switch all of my itunes to it and be able to sync my iphone 4, ipad, and iPod touch. Battery Identifier in itunes 10 iphone 3G

I just noticed that on my iphone 3g it is showing I have a full charge. which is true since I always charge over night, yet in itunes 10 next to my phone under devices it shows the lighting bolt. Could this be a bug in itune 10 or just that my phone is displaying the wrong charge state. I rebooted the phone several times and this did not correct the displaying problem. all answer or suggestion is welcome thanks in advance. Windows 7 MacBOOk pro, iphone 3G

new iphone how to set up visual voice mail

Maybe it takes awhile, but when I tap voice mail, the phone dials my voice mail and logs in. It doesnt seem to do the visual voice mail part. I just got it today. Is there a lag time? I did get an activated message, however, so I know it is activated.I did try to reset network settings.
