Email reconcilation iphone

I am thinking about changing from my blackberry curve to the iphone. There are a couple of features of the blackberry I really love. First, I like to be able to read an email on my blackberry, then mark it unread. I also like to be able to delete emails from my blackberry, but have them still on my desktop ( and some of the marked as unread ). Is it possible to change the iphone so it will only delete the emails off my handheld, and leave them on the desktop? Can I read one on the iphone and mark it unopened? Thanks ahead.. Windows XP Pro

Call failed if country code works if no country code-help iphone

If i include the country code it says Call Failed, if i dont have this on my contact its fine. Help!More details:On my UK 2g iphone, i have synced my blackberry with PocketMac to my Mac. My blackberry phone numbers are in the format of +44 *0*207xxxyyyy as this is what my work computer needs to get through the switchboard (this cant be changed sadly)When i dial out from iphone its fine if its just say 020xxxyyyy but if its +44 0207xxxyyy then it says call failed. If i change it to +44 20xxxyyy (without the 0 after country code) then its also fine. I cant remove the 0 after country code as set by work PC, annoyingly!Ive tried displaying my number and reseting the date/time but no luck. This is obvoiusly something to do with it not being able to dial a number if it has the 0 after the country code but i cant alter this as need it for my work computer and i would like them in sync.Any ideas if theres a setting so that i can call when there is a 0 after the country code? I dont want to export a CSV from Outlook and then edit as want to keep synced regularly. Help much appreciated! Mac Mac OS X (10.4.9) iphone - 2g

No service iphone 3G

OK, this is an odd one. My phone has been working fine, including today. This evening, I have No Service in place of the usual 5 bars at my home. I usually get great service at my house, so this was troubling.I pull out my corporate AT&T blackberry, and I have a full 5 bars. Very troubling.I went back to my iphone, turned off 3G, and voila, 5 bars on my iphone, except its obviously not on the 3G network anymore. So this leads me to two questions. Why do I have to shut off 3G to get phone service, when its worked as recently as all day today? Secondly, why doesnt the iphone switch from 3G if its not available?Of course, I could ask a third question, is my iphone shot? 1 MacBook Pro. 2 iMacs. 2 iPhones. 1 AppleTV. Ridiculous lack of service for iphone in Canada

I loved my iphone, but Im switching to a blackberry after I dropped my phone from waist height(my fiance saw a young man do that on the street today and texted me so I wouldnt feel so bad)and shattered the screen. I was told that I couldnt get service but had to replace the phone (which is otherwise in working condition) for $350 and when I talked to Customer Service the young man was quite insolent. After hed been quite contrary and insulted my intelligence several times I asked him if he had a suggestion for a remedy that would satisfy an average customer and his answer was, Dont drop your phone. Honestly, I would have expected better from Apple. They dont even offer an extended warranty in Canada. I guess Im going to have to move over to blackberry, which is tougher, has better service and is Canadian, to boot. Apple had better watch their backs. I hear the new blackberry touch is aka the iphone Killer! Having said that, I wouldnt have even THOUGHT about switching to blackberry without the ridiculous lack of service to my iphone. newbie question iphone

Im considering purchasing an iphone and would like to know:After purchasing the iphone, are there any monthly expenses; specifically from the service provider (like at&t)?For example, if you want to enjoy some critical features of some blackberry phones, like internet and smartphone functions, there are monthly costs that accompany them.thanks Mac OS X (10.5.5)

iphone 3g makes strange noise on calls for other person on line.

I have the iphone 3g with the new firmware 2.0.1. This has been a problem since even before I updated firmware. When I talk to my gf who also has ATT she says that every little while (randomly) she hears a strange noise which she describes as the a freaky noise similar to the freaky noise that a camera makes when taking a picture in scary movies (but faster). Well, anyway, she says it scares her and it happens quite ofter, maybe 2 or 3 times in 10-15 minutes and I confirmed it is not every X amount of minutes. It is completely random.I thought it may be her phone, but I put my att sim in my old unlocked blackberry and she said the noise went away.Has anyone had this problem or may know what to do?Thank you. New user of 3G iphone

Hello everyone.I am a new iphone user. I transfered over from the blackberry Curve. I loved the blackberry but it was timne for a change.I have a few simple questions that I am sure have been asked somewhere on this forum before, but I am gonna post up and see what happens.1: The email notification is terrible. How do you change it? Needs longer duration and more volume.2: The MS Exchange push function. Exchange will only push the inbox, and not the folders. Anyone know how to change that?3: When I want to reply to an email, and attach a picture that resides in the camera roll, how do you do that?4: Does the iphone have cut and paste? If so how do you use it?Thanks in advance for the answers! Home Made, and Dell laptop Windows XP Pro Vista *****

Oh No-Not Another Battery Life Thread iphone 3G

Hi AllPlease dont complain about yet another one of these battery life threads.Ive been experimenting with the various recommended ways of preserving battery life. Ive am astonished at how effective switching off 3G is in that regard. Its made it comparable to my blackberry Pearl in terms of battery life.If I leave 3G on, my battery depletes very quickly even though there is no 3G (only GPRS) at the location where Im doing the comparison. My email still gets pushed to MobileMe and Yahoo! accounts just fine. I have a couple of questions:1. Does the iphone switch off its WiFi circuitry when it goes into sleep mode? I notice that it takes a few seconds for the WiFi signal indicator to appear in the status bar of the phone but that by the time Ive entered my passcode, it seems connected. If it does, how does the iphone re-establish the WiFi connection so quickly?2. I presume from all this that when 3G is on, the iphone has that circuitry switched on all the time and so depletes the battery rapidly. Is there anything that the phone wont do when asleep with 3G off? I havent noticed anything different so Im wondering why the iphone just doesnt go onto a lower power carrier network connection when its asleep.3. When 3G is turned off, will the iphone still be able to use EDGE if available? Does EDGE draw more power than GPRS?ThanksIan iMac 17" Flat Panel, MacBook Mac OS X (10.5.5) iphone 2.1, Wintel XP Laptop

dialing phone numbers with extension x iphone

Hi,I manage my contacts in Outlook and for telephone numbers with extensions I use the Outlook standard format +countrycode (areacode) phonenumber x exte.g. +49 (911) 12345 x 123By using the Outlook Check Phone number dialog this is the only allowed format. You get this dialog by pressing for instance the Business... button in the phone numbers section of a contact. So far so good - it even syncs perfectly with the iphone. But if I want to dial that number it simply tells me the number is invalid (because the iphone DOES NOT dial the extension!). Theoretically it should dial the number, pause at the x and then dial the extension. So I could of course save ALL my phone numbers without the extension (which would be an annoying job) but then I would loose the information about the extension and furthermore I could not use the standard dialog in Outlook. Even more worse: because I sync with the business directory in my company they would override my local settings. I simply cannot tell them to store the phone numbers without extensions company wide only because my iphone...blackberry and Windows Mobile systems dial those numbers without problems.Any hints?RegardsDirk Windows PC Windows Vista

iphone 3g and gps

Im thinking of getting my hubby the new iphone 3g (I have the first (or second?) gen 8gb and i love it. since downloading a whole bunch of apps and games, he now seems more interested in the 3g. he has a blackberry pearl now, which i got for him last xmas, and i bought it for him primarily bc it has gps and email capability. his gps is more like the garmin or migellan, a lady verbally tells him where to go as well as showing the map, etc. what i want to know is, does the new 3g have the same capability? or does it work just like google maps, where it shows you where to go, but there is no voice over? i ask bc he drives a lot for work, and cant always look at his cell phone for directions if he had the 3g. also if the 3g does not have the capability, is there an app that one can download to help with this? Replacement Plan iphone 3G

I currently have a blackberry 8330 for Verizon, and the only reason behind that is the horrible network the iphone is on. I am a huge Apple fan however, and after the continued delay and push back of the release of the blackberry Storm I am getting impatient and starting to strongly consider the iphone 3G to have the device and tolerate the network. My question is as follows - I know that the phone cannot be purchased without a new contract so what happens should the phone become inoperably damaged. Do you have to purchase a new contract to get a new device? Thanks. MacBook Pro 2.4ghz 2gb 200gb Mac OS X (10.5.4)

Android Compare iphone Top 5 Wins and Losses

Sure, on the surface Google’s Android seems more like a shot through the heart of Windows Mobile — or the head of Palm’s Linux-based OS 2.0 aspirations — but while those platforms enjoy their own historical and market share, it’s Apple’s iphone that has all the mind share of late. That means, despite Google’s CEO being on the Apple Board of Directors, Google’s Maps, Search, and other services having a prominent place on both devices, and — let’s face it — Google’s full on tech-crush for the iphone — no one is going to hesitate to pit the two systems head-to-head. Including us!So, what advantages does each one have? What drawbacks? Here they are, in our opinion: the top five iphone vs. Android Wins and Losses… after the break! How Android Wins1. Hardware OptionsUnlike the singularity of the iphone, Android follows the current Windows Mobile model (and old Palm OS model) of creating a software platform meant to be implemented by a wide range of different manufacturers across an even wider range of hardware (some speculate beyond even the phone paradigm). Want a keyboard? Touch? Flip? Yellow racing fins? No problem, take 1 from column A and 2 from column B. After all, people tend to be diverse if not unique, and no single device can possibly meet the needs of each and every consumer. By letting manufacturers offer hardware choices, Android wins.2. Developer FreedomWhile the iphone App Store has been a million (going on billion) dollar success, it has also been an endless source of controversy rooted not only in Apple’s desire to control seemingly every aspect of ecosystem, but the capricious — and callous — way in which they’ve thus far chosen to exercise that control. By contrast, Google is offering what amounts to a totally free Marketplace where developers can pretty much create and deploy anything, limited only by their innovation and determination. Podcaster? Fine. Mailwrangler? Okay (even though it likely duplicates Google’s built-in Gmail client). It’s the classic Open Source argument. (Heck, even the OS itself is Open Source!) By being free as in speech (though Google is wealthy enough to spot developers at least a few beers as well!), Andorid wins.3. Killer Cloud ConnectivityLet’s face it, the cloud is the future, and while Apple has struggled (cough-MobileMe-cough) with that future, Google owns it. Google Search. Gmail. gCal. Google Docs. Google Maps. YouTube. Knol. Chrome. And the list goes on and on (and on). If they can flip the switch and truly, seamlessly integrate everything, not only between applications but across desktop, laptop, and handset, it will make for perhaps the most compelling offering ever on the market. By not being the next Windows-class platform (which superseded the earlier Mac), but by potentially being something even greater, Android wins.4. DRM-Free MediaThe iphone is hooked into the largest and most successful media fountain in the business, iTunes. The record labels and Hollywood, however, fearing Apple will become another Walmart, able to dictate terms (taken, no doubt, to a Jobsian extreme) have with the exception of EMI, denied iTunes the higher quality, DRM-free music they are willing to give to competitors like Amazon. Google, despite being Amazon’s rival in the data-center-driven cloud computing space, is leveraging Amazon MP3’s musical advantage for Android. No word yet on whether they’ll ever break the DRM-free TV and Movie barrier (not when Hollywood is cutting off so many noses to spite that face), but for as far as it goes, by providing consumers with content free of DRM that never stopped the real pirates, but made everyday use difficult to the point of exasperation, Android wins.5. Sergey and LarrySteve Jobs is the archetypal benevolent dictator, and a divisive one at that. Google’s founders, by contrast, enjoy a shinier, happier public image. Whether it’s their “don’t be evil” motto or their willingness to let Google employees spend 20% of their time (1 day a week) working on solo “skunkworks” projects in the true spirit of innovation, (such as Sergey’s gleeful Android “hang time” app?), their youthful energy and enthusiasm powers the Google brand. By presenting a kinder, friendlier, and — arguably — funnerer corporate culture to consumers, Android wins. How the iphone Wins1. Unified Hardware/DevelopmentControversies aside, the App Store has changed the face of application development and deployment (and how scary is it that this represents only one of the iphone’s revolutions). Leveraging the ease of use and power of Cocoa, developers can create applications that will not only run on any iphone (or iPod Touch) on the market, but be available for market (or for free), at the tap of a button, on each and every one of those devices. While Android developers will have to worry about whether some hardware has keyboards and some not, touchscreens or not (and what resolution?!), real headphones or USB adapters (really HTC? Really?) trackballs or accelerometers — never mind the endless snafu potential of any manufacturer or carrier making any changes they want to the Open Source OS — iphone developers can “just work”. By providing a single, unified hardware implementation and the unlimited on-device marketplace that comes with it, the iphone wins.2. Best of Both WorldsWhile Android enjoys the most complete integration with Google imaginable, we can’t forget that Google’s business isn’t making Smartphones. It isn’t Search either. It’s advertising. And to advertise, Google needs to be in front of (and holding on to) as many eyeballs as possible. This means Google needs to provide their services to the iphone (and Windows Mobile, Palm, blackberry, etc.) as well. So the iphone gets Google Search, Maps, YouTube, and all the other Google applications they need anyway. What’s more, Apple gets to carefully craft their own unparalleled user interfaces and mobile technology on top of and into those Google Services. Google’s Android, however, gets nothing from Apple. By iphone users getting the best of both the Apple and Google worlds, the iphone wins.3. Google Getting Slightly Less “Not Evil”Apple can be smug, uncaring, and wrong-headed redacteds, fair enough. But while Google professes “don’t be evil”, their growing size and power should be a concern to everyone who values privacy and security. Bottom-line: they know everything about you. You search for “very private personal issue”. They know that, and your IP, and can cross-reference it with everything else you’ve searched for, and mapped, and (with the GPS in your phone) whether you’re on the move. And their business is advertising. They own DoubleClick. Sure, Apple hooks into Google for Safari web search and maps as well, but on the iphone you can at least choose not to search, or to search Yahoo!, and to turn off GPS. Maybe you can with Android, maybe not. Chrome has set a very poor precedent (no URL box, just search, means Google parses avery web address you type — never mind the ULA controversy). Given their shiny, happy facade, this makes them all the more terrifying. By the sheer nature of Apple’s business model being predicated on pleasing consumers enough to buy their hardware, and not slipping in advertising on the down low with little or no oversight or accountability, the iphone wins.4. iTunes International & iPod EcosystemFor all the greatness that is Amazon MP3, it’s entirely USA-centric. Sure, for many people that seems like the whole world — but it’s not. While Big Media deliberately won’t give iTunes higher quality DRM-free music, the nature of international media rights is every bit as unfair to Amazon and their offerings. iTunes has had years to navigate this archaic quagmire, however, and while they’re certainly not everywhere yet, iTunes Stores are available to a huge number of consumers around the world. And unlike Android at launch, iphone users in some areas also have TV (including NBC… again), Movies, and the rest of iTunes’ massive media content library available to them. Likewise, the Apple ecosystem is mature, providing everything from easy media conversion tools for personal content, to a plethora of accessories, to Apple’s full line of other hardware and software products. By providing such a vast, and vastly simple set of content and spherically-integrated supporting environment, the iphone wins.5. Steve JobsCall him Steve, El Jobso, Dear Leader, or an arrogant expletive, Steve Jobs has proven time and again to have an uncanny knack for knowing “what’s next”. Not innovation in the strictest sense, Jobs instead takes futuristic technology and realized it for the masses — in whatever elegant shade of this and gorgeous material of that he knows is lust-worthy at that very moment. From the CLI of the Apple II, to the GUI of the Mac, to the portability of the iPod, to the multi-touch of the iphone, Jobs more than anyone this generation has, over and over, pushed the boundaries of consumer technology and the entire industry around it. That’s why every Stevenote brings the internet to a grinding halt, and Android’s announcement barely registered a stutter on the tubes. You don’t dent the universe by committee (which Google’s Open Handset initiative and Android Platform most certainly are), and there’s no better proof of that than the achievements of Apple under the — admittedly dictatorial — guidance of Steve Jobs. By walking onto the stage at Macworld 2007 and pulling the jaw-dropping surprise of the iphone from his pocket, and by keeping every consumer on the edge-of-their seats waiting for the next Stevenote, and the next “one more thing”, the iphone won.ConclusionEvery industry needs competition, and while we can’t help but worry about our friends over on the Windows Mobile and Palm platforms, we also can’t help but think, win or lose, Android will force the iphone to up its game (and vice versa) as well. Either way, we consumers are the ultimate winners.Via How Does Android Compare to the iphone? Top 5 Wins and Losses

iphone for play. blackberry for work.

If you are looking for an iphone for business, think twice. Push e-mail is limited to your e-mail providers capability (rather than your cell phone providers) and there is no sync functionality for tasks or notes in Outlook/Entourage. All of these are standard for blackberry (and most other PDAs)...and they arent even bells and whistles, just basics. The iphone is a long way away from where it should be for business. A great toy, fun for personal use, but dont make the same mistake as I did and buy it to use for business...despite what their latest promises may say. Good luck. MacPro Mac OS X (10.5.5)

List of Issues and YOUR feedback iphone

This is a list I am compiling of things that I have come into contact with while using the iphone 3G that have just made my experience with the Apple iphone 3G a horrible one. I gave up my blackberry for an inferior product (at least right now) and higher monthly rates.1. DISGUSTING battery life2. SLOW keyboard typing3. Frequent dropped calls (with full coverage)4. No mp3 ringtone support5. No MMS messaging6. Constant application crashing (including safari and internal iphone apps i.e. settings)7. No stereo bluetooth supportRelated items:1. SLOW app store functionalityI am sure I have missed some things, so post here if you can think of anything else or if you are having other problems. The purpose of this post is not to whine about these things. This is a list of functionality issues that are GREATLY affecting the user experience. I know there are a ton of gripes out there, but I think that the purpose of this post should be to keep these issues in the mind of Apple so that issues can be identified and remedied. As consumers we need to stand up and make sure that these arent things that we wait to have fixed in the next version of the iphone. These need to be fixed NOW. Anything you can do from posting, emailing, and even calling would greatly increase the visibility of these problems and hopefully lead to speedy resolutions. As a company that is known for good releases, this is just unacceptable. We need to make these issues a thorn in Apples side until they are resolved. I am extremely disappointed with the performance of this revolutionary phone. We cannot tolerate this as consumers and we need to make sure that these issues get resolved NOW.What makes me even more upset is the fact that Apples marketing goes after Microsoft/Windows for releasing buggy and inferior products when their newest headliner is nothing but a glorified (and expensive!) paperweight.Message was edited by: MRyno Awesome PC Other OS faster cheaper and more stable than mac...by fa

iphone still Missing MAJOR features-Going back to blackberry I suppose 3G

Ok - I am an iphone newbie. I have read some posts on this board. I know about most of my complaints - after I bought it. I am using this post to vent... as my attempt to provide feedback in one spot to Apple. I really dont think they monitor this though or else take it seriously... but I cannot take it anymore. You will see that I am now beyond frustrated. Heres my story:Background: Purchased iphone 3G on 9/12/08. Owned 3 Blackberries before I got this phone. I do use a PC (no comments). Own a mobile marketing & applications company - so I am a seasoned user with perhaps higher expectations. But these issues below are not acceptable for a second device release. Glad its higher speed when it works, but thats not enough. Plain and Simple. So here I go…. The wind up and pitch… (and I hope this causes others to put the pressure on Apple).1) No SMS FORWARDING. I’ve been fighting this one for days now that I own the phone. What? How can that be? I know… it’s true. Most phones out there for the past 3 years have this feature. Guess I need to carry a Motorola Razor. My BB allowed me to forward as a SMS, Email or even a PIN (to an IM client).2) No SMS RESEND. See above. Don’t get it… when I need to get information on demand via a shortcode, I need to retype the entire message… even though it’s in front of me to resend. 3) No COPY & PASTE – I know…. This was expected, but since I can’t forward a SMS, it’s even more troubling. A business user NEEDS this ability. Doesn’t Apple know that Copy & Paste is even supported by Microsoft???4) No MMS – I know, not supported. Again, this was called the iphone… and you expect it would allow you to send a picture you snap to your spouse who may not have a phone with email support.5) CALENDAR IS LOCKED – I cannot find a way to get google calendar synched with the iphone. Everything I’ve read says… you got it… Apple locked the calendar so you need to buy MobileME or something like that. Again, wasn’t this aimed for business users? THIS CALENDAR IS GARBAGE. Not usable at all. Especially the largest segment of business users – small business owners and employees.6) BATTERY – enough said. I cannot get through a day without topping this off. It’s garbage. I go into an important meeting… and cannot access my phone. A medium user should have enough juice.7) VIDEO – it has the camera… but no video. I spent hours looking for that feature. Again, it’s expected in a phone to have that feature these days. Not as important though as Copy & Paste. 8) Gmail Push… wish that existed… but a minor inconvenience since I also have exchange account for another company I have…9) EMAIL FLICKING – just a thought… why do I have to hit the little button up top to get back to my main inbox. Should be able to flick back… faster & easier.Minor complaints & grievances1) WALLPAPER – stupid that I can’t change the background image on my phone. Thought wallpaper was for the main app – not a silly image on the sign-in page.2)3G iTunes Connection – hmmmm – you would think it would work. OTA downloads that is via iTunes.I spoke to someone at Apple today. Very friendly. I think she’s heard many of these complaints. Didn’t seem to take notes though. Told me I had to do this online. Her comment about copy & paste was classic – “I know, it’s like you’re living in the 90’s again” – and she is right. You missed it BIG TIME. How many calls do you need to log before you get it – this is important and you need to add it ASAP. I even asked her – “when will this be addressed?” and she said you don’t announce them. So guess what, I have another 20 days or so before I cannot bring it back to the store. If I do, then you lose me as a customer. Better yet, and this is my concern for you, how many others, like me, are going to take this back when you don’t answer the critics who repeat this over and over again that you missed the mark. Please, we don’t need more eye candy from you, just a device that does what you expect it would… That’s all. In general, this is a good phone. One of my favorites, but it’s not GREAT. You missed the mark. My final comment should come as no surprise, but Apple, please lay off the attacks on the PC. Right now, the iphone almost reminds me of the PC. It’s not the homerun you should have for round 2. The new BB may not be as slick… but the BB has the basic features many business users expect… not hope for… but expect. If BB went on the offensive, they would have serious attacks for you to answer. You missed the mark and I hope you address this before it’s too late. Come on guys…. Leave no room for the next guy and pull fully ahead with a device that lives up to your name. Compaq nx9420 Windows Vista

NO SERVICE iphone 3G

I left work today and noticed I had no service on my iphone 3G. I kept driving and driving and still no service. I pulled over and waited a few more minutes and still no service. I put the phone in Airplane mode and then turned Airplane mode off. What do you know, 3G and 4 bars. It appears to me the iphone 3G has problems getting a signal. I had to do the same thing with the original iphone.I never experienced this issue with my blackberry Curve 8310 which makes me believe it is a hardware issue. The iphone is great device except for the phone. I was hosping these issues would have beeen resolved in the 3G version.M.Message was edited by: marcfogel iphone 3G

Steve Jobs Probably Uses blackberry iphone

I have had it with Iphones! My 1st generation iphone was great for the first year until it conveniently developed dead screen spots at month 14. The Genious Bar told me that because I was out of warranty I would have to pay $199 for a refurbished first Gen or the same price for a new one. Like a Lemming I took the bait and purchased a new 3G iphone 1 week ago. It has worked fairly well except my phone doesnt get 3 G reception at work in Hoboken, NJ 1 mile from Manhattan, NYC New York! I downloaded the new 2.1 software last nite and the phone seemed to work very well. Many of the issues I was having with slow texting and spotty reception seems to have been fixed. 1 day later and my phone now says no service in my apartment 1 minute and 5 bars the next. The 3G symbol only works if I go into settings and turn it off and back on. This lasts about 5 minutes before either Edge or no service takes over. I am so frustrated with this phone. I am paying $80/month for what seems like an experimental Apple project. Does anyone in the NYC Metro area have these same issues on September 13, 14 2008 or am I the only lucky one. I would love to love this phone but it is so unreliable. I have reset it and done hard reboots but nothing helps. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to get this phone to be consistent with the 3G connection? Thanks Self Built Windows XP sysyem Windows XP

ATT Network outage and 3G phone iphone

I have been having lots of problems with the network ever since getting my phone. I am on my 3rd 3G iphone. The network went down all across the country last week and since it came back up I have not had any problems. I was wondering if anyone else has noticed better service. When I called ATT the morning of the outage the rep told me the outage was a planned outage and the network would be back up by 11am EST. The network came up at 12 and has been working ever since. No dropped calls! Is this just wishful thinking or did ATT fix the network problems!I read that ATT was having the same problem with a new blackberry called Bold. They would not release it because of the network problems. PC Windows Vista

iphone 3G-Missed calls used Edge network in SF Bay area

I have a 2 month old 3G. Phone works well. Email works well. MobileMe works well. My big issues is MISSED calls. I live in the San Francisco Bay area, and I NEVER use the 3G feature - Im permanently on Edge, and that works well for me. I always have 4 or 5 bars. However, I regularly miss calls. They go direct to voice-mail. I would say that I miss 25% or so of my calls, so its not a small thing.Has anyone else experienced this? Is Apple aware of the issue? I am a dedicated iphone user who migrated from a blackberry. However, this isnt acceptable. MacBook Pro Mac OS X (10.5.2) 4 Gig

MMS Picture Messaging iphone

Does the new iphone support MMS??? If no, WHY? This is a normal function that all phones being produced in our world of technology have. I have a original iphone that I purchased almost a year ago. And when the warrenty is up, Im just thinking about getting a blackberry. Just because the iphone does not support normal fetures. What are the pros and cons if I do this? Also, if i chose to go with another type of phone, will I still be able to use the iPod part of the iphone? Dell Windows Vista

Missing Features in iphone

These are things that I think Apple overlooked when designing the iphone.1. IR port. A lot of other phones have some type of I/R Port. Palms had it for years, My old Sony Ericsson W810i had one. 2. Solar panels. I mean Apple applied for the patent. Why not release it with the iphone 3g? I can suspect the battery issues are what caused Steve o to look toward solar panels to solutions to the battery issue. 3. Video recording Functions. Even my past 2 phones had a video recorder.4. How about a higher resolution CCD?5. Folders!!! How can we scroll through 9 pages of applications without any organization? We need a way to organize all of our Applications. If Ipod functions have ways of organization, why cant we have folders? One of the most frustrating things is scrolling through 9 pages of apps to find the one app you want, then realizing you hit the 9th page, and have to go back to look again slower. Gimme some organization on the iphone.6. Voice Dialing!!! My old Sony ericson had one button through blue tooth or headset voice dialing. Or even voice command. I know Nokias also has an option where it can read a text message to you even through blue tooth. 7. Apple seems to be loosing a lot of sales potential to blackberry because of the lack of a actual keyboard. How about a Blue tooth Keyboard? why not have a seperate keyboard that someone can use if they dont like the touchscreen? if you utilize Blue tooth or even wifi to connect it to the iphone, this would probably save people alot of frustration. While you are at it you can probably make a blue tooth game controller. 8. How about Wireless itunes Sync? Why do I have to connect my iphone to a computer loaded with itunes in order to sync? Cant I just use my wireless network to sync music and perform backups? This is the 21st century!!! Why must I connect my iphone to my computer? I have a wireless network, all the hardware and connectivity is there, just give me an option to connect to my itunes through wifi.9. How about video calls? Most phones these days, have two cameras, one camera for taking pictures and videos, and one pointed right at the user. We got the 3g, why not give us what most other 3g phones have. An extra camera!!!10. STEREO BLUE TOOTH!!!!! I cant believe that this is such a hard thing to do. Most music enabled cellphones have Stereo Blue tooth. Why doesnt a company who has a large music market as Apple, have Stereo blue tooth on its flagship model?11. More buttons on the edge, Perhaps a camera button to take pictures with. Did you ever notice how awkward it was to hold the phone while tapping on the screen to take a picture? I mean I know apple wanted to simplify the design of the phone but sometimes an extra button or two would help us out. 12. Water proofing... Golden shell back waterproofing allows you to send any electronic device to them, and have they put it in one of their vacuum chambers and chemically bond the device so that it can be fully submersible in water and still work. http://www.vimeo.com/1381538 it would be nice to have an option like this for apple. After all apple is not just another device maker, it is more like going to a car dealership. Why not give us the option to customize our own iphone. With a higher Megapixel camera, or a weather proofing... All done in house at ever apple location within an hour.... Most of the damage to cellphone happens with water damage!13. Non contact wireless charging. My tooth brush (Sonicare) has a non contact wireless charging solution. Why not the iphone? iphone 3g Not applicable

Replacement Battery iphone 3G

I have followed the battery optimization suggested on this page: http://www.apple.com/batteries/iphone.html but the iphone just seems to suck and drain power!Any where sells replacement batteries for the iphone?**copy of feedback sent to Apple**I have had to charge my iphone 3G 2-3 times with in one day unlike the blackberry i have which goes one week or more before a charge is required. How do i get or change the battery in the iphone to better battery and what battery would you recomend.Message was edited by: Mac Pro 8core - x86 Mac Pro 8core Mac OS X (10.5.4) Vista x64 + SP1 1.3tb 10gRam 23" Cin HD

iphone 3G junk

I originally had an iPod Touch I got for Christmas, but recently was eligible for an upgrade, so I sold the iPod and bought myself a new iphone 3G, upgrading from the blackberry 8100.What a bother! Constant crashes. I need to do a hard reset at least twice a day. Sometimes the Phone application doesnt want to start, even when I dont do anything. Ill make a call, put it on standby, an hour later want to make another call and the application just starts and closes. I constantly miss phone calls because of this.Text messages are a pain in the ***. Half the time I go to write one theres extreme lag, about 3-4 seconds between the time I press a key and it actually shows up. Lets not forget the other half of the time the sounds decide not to work at all. Using the App Store is a huge joke. I know its not Apples direct fault, but almost all the applications Ive downloaded (Facebook, Twitter, AIM, just to name a few) work great for a half day, then refuse to open, even after I reboot. Its only if I remove them and reinstall them will they work for another short period of time. Lets not forget the obnoxious Updater which just flat out doesnt work, but just annoys you that your applications need to be updated. The only functional app seems to be Wikipedia.Maps *****. Locks up, crashes, why on earth does it forget my position every time I close the app? Especially if its just a minute apart while I make a call?I had enough today. Was writing a text message when suddenly the phone just restart. Great. All of my phone logs and text messages have been erased. Even after I sync, they are still gone. What the **** is this? How does something this buggy even make it to release?Oh, did I mention how slow 3G is? Twice as fast? Give me a break. This phone is unreliable. I can see why business professionals still use blackberry. Two years of using my Pearl, I dont recall a single time I had to reboot it because something wasnt working. MBP Mac OS X (10.4.11)

I must be incredibly lucky iphone 3G

I read this forum as often as I have time, and Im shocked and amazed at the amount of problems I see discussed here. I have to be the luckiest guy on the planet because Ive had NO problems whatsoever with my iphone 3g. Now I realize this is a forum where people come to talk about problems, so by its nature, youre going to hear about all of them, and for that I am happy because if I ever do have a problem Im coming here for the solution. So maybe its stupid for me to post this, but I love this phone. I used to change phones about every three months, but since the first iphone the only change I made was to the 3g and I have no intention of changing this until there is a significant hardware development. Ive been blackberry, Q, Treo, all different flavors, and I have yet to find a device that is the technical marvel that this 3g iphone is. Sorry if Ive wasted your time posting no information about any problems, but I just wondered if there was anyone else reading that has not been to had to replace the phone, send it in, or spend hours looking for solutions to problems. Each time I check this site I feel even more lucky...Thanks for listening. Steve Jobs and iphone Dev Team should be embarrassed 3G

Steve Jobs the master micro-managing perfectionist should hang his head in shame along with his entire iphone team. I currently own some beautiful Apple equipment at home and at work; Mac Pro, iMac, MacBook Pro, many iPods, and 2 lovely iphone 2Gs. I also own some really crappy Apple products as well, and the few that jump to mind are my 2 iphone 3Gs and my 2 Apple TVs. That being said, although the Apple TVs streaming performance is horrible and there are ports that are simply disabled (USB), its still not as bad as the beautifully designed paperweight on my desk called the iphone 3G. I am now in the process of restoring it for the 11th time since I purchased it on July 11th. I only blame myself for falling into the Steve Trance and following the hordes like a Lemming to run out and hand my money over to Apple for a Beta product they labeled 2.0.The Red Sox once were plagued by the Curse of the Bambino and whenever they were doing well in the season, they would manage to choke and lose it all. They somehow overcame that and have since proven that they are truly worthy of the title professional baseball players. Apple has the Curse of the Woz which seems to cause them to choke just as they are on the brink of something great. They had the chance to take the SmartPhone market by storm, and instead........we have the catastrophe at hand.....the iphone 3G. I used to think the blackberry I carry for work locked up too often and was poorly designed...but sadly....its the most stable phone I have at the moment, and if it werent for the fact that I have it, no one would be able to reach me right now.APPLE.......FIX YOUR **** PHONE!!!!!!! iphone not offered at ATT website 3G

I just went to the ATT website to look at the phones. You can not find any iphones listed. I wonder if this is because of the issues with the 3G coverage?Does this mean ATT is finally realizing there are network problems on their end and it just isnt an Apple problem!I read they are having the same problems with a blackberry phone called BOLD. Intermittent 3G coverage. Interesting!!! PC Windows Vista

copy and paste Java Flash iphone 3G

Does anyone know if apple intends on having a copy and paste being added to the iphone or flash or Java at any point????Man im starting to think im gonna go get a blackberry soon!!!!! imac 24 inch Mac OS X (10.5.4)

Probably going back to blackberry advice iphone 3G

I have to admit, I had high expectations for the iphone 3G. I waited until the second generation, I waited for Exchange integration. I am a heavy email user, but like the add-ons the iphone platform offers.Ive had the phone for about a week of heavy use and Im not feeling the love.1. Keyboard -- I cant touch type or get up to any kind of speed. I still make a lot of typos and have to back up. People say you have to trust the auto correct but that just doesnt help me that much.2. Have to be On Network to do any email!!?? This i dont get. A mobile platform in todays environment is going to be on and off network. Unless I am missing something major, once I am off network i cannot read my emails? EDIT: I went back and went into Airplane mode and my email content is there, but there have been times when it is not. I cannot delete messages when off network. I think the earlier scenario I got email headers, but not all the messages and I was seeing a checked screen of tan and white checkerboard.3. Battery. My battery life has been bad. Not even through one day. So I have read these forums and I have Disabled Location services (each time i use it), I have disabled 3G, I have disabled Push, and I have disabled Wi-Fi to get through a ten hour day. So what am I left with? A device with all of the attractive features turned off, limited web browsing. Maybe if I could set up icons (shortcuts?) to quickly toggle these off without digging into Settings it could work, but that is not the case. I did a full drain down and recharge last night and the phone is still counting usage minutes and says the phone has been plugged in since it was charged -- well, no, I just charged it but I guess it did not reach full charge to reset the counter?4. Freeze / Lagging. I think related to the email, about 5-7 times a day the screen freezes. I could be looking up a number or a contact and it just is frozen. After about 45 seconds to 2 minutes it comes back to life and executes the clicks or types that I made. Of course it happens at the most inopportune time.I really wanted to have a good iphone experience. I am really frustrated with it. I am not necessarily looking for a point by point reply to my issues, but higher level advice -- should I stick with it? Is it likely these things will be fixed by Firmware upgrades, or is this just the state of the product until the next generation?Sorry for venting.Message was edited by: GadgetBoyGenius

Send iphone contacts to Lexus RX 400h address book using MacBook Pro

This may the wrong place to post this, but perhaps it will catch the eye of other Lexus owners who have come across this problem.Since the iphone has no way to send contact information via Bluetooth as required by the Lexus address book system, I was wondering if it might be possible to spoof the Lexus into thinking my MacBook Pro was a phone, and therefore allowing me to send the contacts via Bluetooth (perhaps using some extra 3rd party contacts transfer software too?)I guess there are a few questions I would need to answer before even trying it out. Does anyone know what contact format the Lexus is looking for? For example the format the blackberry uses works fine, so I guess I would need to be able to send in that format, what ever it is.It seems likely the Lexus would not recognize a MacBook Pro as a capable Smartphone and would therefore perhaps not offer the option to transfer the contact info. However there is a small app in the Developer Tools called Bluetooth Explorer which appears to allow you to change the software setup of the onboard Bluetooth hardware so it appears as a Smartphone. Anyone know anything about that?Any constructive ideas appreciated, thanks.P.S. I am aware the simplest way is to get another compatible mobile phone such as a blackberry or Sony Ericsson phone to do the transfer, but since I dont have one to hand, I thought I would look into this option.

KACE Announces Industry's First iphone Systems Management Solution for the Enterprise

KACE, the leading systems management appliance company, today announced the industry's first appliance-based systems management solution for Apple's iphone. The new technology allows IT administrators and business users alike to provision, configure, and control policies for the iphone as they would with any other managed device. This news comes on the heels of Gartner's recent acknowledgement that the iphone 3G is ready to serve business customers as an alternative to mobile devices, such as blackberry. The iphone technology complements KACE's already comprehensive support for Mac systems."Apple is quickly carving out its place in the enterprise. The business world is recognizing the benefits of Mac OS X, and now the powerful iphone technology," said Marty Kacin, CTO and co-founder of KACE. "IT administrators need to adapt to this new 'multiple OS world' and be ready to manage heterogeneous environments on a dime. KACE systems management appliances give administrators the tools they need to seamlessly and easily manage a range of enterprise platforms." The award-winning KBOX family of appliance( http://www.kace.com/products/) offers seamless systems management support across Mac, Linux, and Windows operating systems. This is especially important as a large number of IT departments now host heterogeneous environments and many are choosing Mac as an alternative to Windows Vista, as highlighted in a recent King Research survey. The survey showed 42 percent of the respondents said they would consider deployment of alternative operating systems, such as Mac and Linux, in order to avoid a migration to Vista. The full report, titled "Windows Vista Adoption Trends: A Survey of Technology Professionals," is available at: http://www.kace.com/pdf/AR-King-Vista-Survey-2.php. Understanding the need to manage complexity within heterogeneous IT environments, KACE offers an appliance-based approach that allows IT administrators to cost-effectively manage multiple operating systems with the ease provided from a single interface. KACE's new iphone support complements Apple's iphone Configuration Utility, providing centralized and easy management of multiple configuration profiles and tools to apply them based on policies across the enterprise.New KBOX Systems Management appliances capabilities include: -- Assigning iphone profiles across user groups to meet different access needs, for example, by function or geography; -- Distribution of profiles by e-mail; -- Self service profile downloads available from the KBOX user portal. The new iphone support complements existing KBOX Mac OS X management capabilities, including hardware and software inventory, patching, software distribution, remote administration, help desk, and asset management. KBOX fulfills all of the systems management needs from initial computer deployment to on-going management and retirement in a mixed computing environment, allowing IT departments to save considerable time and money. iphone management will be available in beta this September."Today's dynamic workforces are increasingly becoming reliant on mobile devices, like Apple's iphone, to more effectively achieve organizational goals.Clearly KACE understands the importance of simplifying and standardizing IT management of mobile devices, and has taken a bold leap in extending its KBOX appliance solutions to address the growing popularity of the iphone," said Steve Brasen, analyst for Enterprise Management Associates."With this announcement, KACE reaffirms its commitment to provide broad heterogeneous support while not compromising on depth of functionality or cost effectiveness."Kulesa PRCathy Wright, 650-340-1985cathy@kulesapr.comCopyright Business Wire 2008

Hugely disappointed due to faileddropped calls iphone

Day two on a 3G iphone with the latest software and 20+ dropped calls. I cant function with this phone; first and foremost it has to work as a phone. I pulled the SIM card and put it in my Treo. Sorry Apple, Ive been a big fan for 15+ years, but this issue is unacceptable. I was planning to upgrade all my staff to iPhones as a bonus, but Ill probably go with blackberry. My iphone will sit in a drawer until the dropped calls issue gets resolved; and, and seeing as Ive lost my enthusiasm for the iphone, it will sit there until Rogers Canada gets a sensible rate package - two of my staff had data roaming charges last month for $150+ and $230+ on top of their usual charges, while traveling in the States.
