Since AT&T is still in the process of updating their system to support MMS on the iphone (which is weird because MMS is supported on blackberry and every other phone for AT&T) is it possible to send/receive MMS messages when connected to WiFi? MacBook Mac OS X (10.5.1)
I am trying an iphone 3Gs and really like it. I can cancel within 30 days. I forwarded all calls to it from my main number, but outgoing calls still show my new, unknown number. Can I simply swap the sims between my BB and 3Gs?Thanks. iMac Mac OS X (10.5.7)
I am not clear on how to set all the sounds, vibrate modes. I am used to blackberry.(1) How do I quickly set the iphone to just vibrate or be totally silent? It seems like the switch on the side selects Vibrate, right? But how do I quickly get it to Silence for everything while still leaving it on (Not Airplane Mode).(2) How can I make it Vibrate, and still hear the key taps, but not any alerts? Thanks. iMac Mac OS X (10.5.7)
In using the iphone 3GS (came from blackberry), I am having a few annoying issues:(1)When I go to Phone, and Click Contacts, it does not default to the Search Box. I have to press the little, tiny ? at the top right, just beneath the + sign. I almost always hit the plus sign and have to start again. This is driving me nuts, especially while driving. Is there any way to make it automatically launch the Search box (maybe even with the keypad showing) whenever I hit Contacts. This same issue applied to creating emails. I have over 800 contacts, and I almost ALWAYS want need to start typing a couple of letters, to find the one I need.(2) When creating a new email, is there any way to jump from the TO field to the Subject Field to the Body field of the message without touching those areas on the screen, such as hitting Return (which does not work).(3) I type faster than I expected on the touchpad (especially coming from blackberry). But two things really slow me down. First, not having the comma on the main screen with the letters. And second, not having the numbers. Is there any way to change this? I assume not. Thanks for the help. iMac Mac OS X (10.5.7)
Id just like to clarify this if anyones kind enough to indulge me? My interpretation of Push Email is that you receive an email almost immediately, on your device? Like you can on the blackberry for example. Someone sends you an email, and within a few seconds you receive it on your device - like you do with the blackberry. Theres no discrimination whether its a POP, IMAP, Yahoo, Exchange account, you get it it pretty much straight away.So when Apple said, Push Email, I assumed that meant Push Email. That is, email is pushed to your device - the iphone? No? Because it doesnt seem to be push email on mine. It is pretty much Push Email with my Me mail, but most of the world isnt with .Me, and like the rest, I have a lot of POP mail accounts that seem to take a while to come through - ie not Push.In the settings the most frequent fetch is every 15 minutes. Which isnt Push, its more like Wait around a while and eventually youll get your email.Or have I got my settings wrong for the POP mail accounts?CheersChris iMacs, Intel 20 inch 2.0 with 1.5 gig ram Mac OS X (10.5.4) 2 InteliMacs, 15" PB, 12" PB, Loads of iPods, 2 Airport Expresses
I just got a iphone (16GB 3G S) and i absolutely love the phone especially with the wide variety of apps available for it. One of the main reason i got the phone is so i could use it at work. I get great reception in my area almost everywhere but i found out i can not get reception at work (Unless i go to the window). Everyone who has any of the carries, except for verizon, have trouble getting reception at work. We have a verizon tower right across the street so reception is great in the entire building. There is my delema. I love the iphone and everything it does but im unable to even use the phone at work. With how much money you spend for an iphone most people would want good reception everywhere they go. I can switch to verizon but then i cant think of one phone on their network that i really like . If your just into checking your email the blackberries are good but i want more than that. I dont like the blackberry storm (maybe the blackberry storm 2 will be better). There are rumors that a lot of android devices are supposed to be in the US market this fall but they have yet to say which carriers of exact dates. Also there has been unconfirmed rumors that verizon might get the WebOS phones this fall also...but again Unconfirmed. What would you guys do? Would you just deal with the no connection at work and stick with the iphone? If i do then im stuck for 2 years. If something comes out on verizon thats good then i will have to ride out my contract. Or would you get something thats not as perfect but gets good connection everywhere: blackberry or WMobile?Let me say also its just not data. I can not get voice in my office either.Any help would be appreciated. I need to make up my mind soon cause i need to return the iphone if im going to go that route.thanks,Ncage Other OS Windows 7
Im not eligible until 12-29, but my wifes blackberry 8800 is eligible now. She cant use either iphone because of her job, so I just want to use her eligibility to get a subsidized iphone 3G S and activate with my phone number which is now active on my 3G. Can I just use her account to order the phone through Apple, then . . . what? Any pitfalls here or is this very doable and AT&T doesnt really care so long as they get her under a new contract and my contract continues?Would I be better off waiting and doing this in person at my local AT&T store? I want the new 3GS. Heres my issue. I am currently with T-Mobile. I get UNLIMITED minutes for 49.00 a month. I pay another 20 for the internet/data package and another 10 for 1500 texts. After all is said and done, my monthly bill is about 95 for unlimited minutes, data etc. To switch to AT&T, Ill get only 900 minutes and will be paying about 20 more per month after all is put together than I currently do. Now, there is rollover minutes and mobile to mobile to make it easier, but the thought of giving up unlimited minutes even if Im not currently needing them, is killing me. Ive been with T-Mobile for 10 years and thats why I have that plan. The only other option would be to not be able to get the 3GS right away, wait a while and get an unlocked phone at a premium cost. I cant decide! What would you guys do? blackberry Pearl
Cant locate the answer, howm many bluetooth devices can the iphone be paired withat one time? Hello,All of the sudden my 1st gen iphone is not receiving calls in my apartment. It will make calls and send texts, however visual vmail and incoming calls go straight to vm. I even had the apple store give me a replacement and then restored from itunes. I have the blackberry curve and I have been wanting the iphone for a couple years now. I cannot make the switch because of two key features that I cannot confirm or deny with the iphone. So my search brings me here. I know several people with iphone that cannot answer these questions.First Reason; Call forwarding - I am on my second blackberry and I must say the forwarding option blackberry offers is great! Here is how it goes. there are 4 forwarding options.A. Forward all calls: This option forwards all calls to a phone number of your choiceB. Forward calls if phone is busy to a phone number of your choiceC. Forward calls for no reply to a phone number of your choiceD. Forward calls if not reachable to a number of your choiceNow here is why this is great. I travel full time and run a business in which I receive a lot of calls. I can setup my blackberry so that when I see a call come I can take it or forward it to my next cell, or to my girlfriends cell phone, or to a land line, or to VM. I can setup up the phone to forwards in all kinds of situations. But the ability to forward the call to my girlfriend where ever she is is just out of this world good! My customers think we are in the office! Second reason; Push Email, I cannot confirm or deny this is how it works! Everyone I know with an iphone says I think I get my email right away I cannot find anywhere on Apples website that directly answers this question.Let me know if you have these answers please. I really like the iphone and I think I would like the switch. Thanks, PC Windows XP None
I have an phone 3g, use it works great, love it. My brother in law had an iphone 3g, dropped it in water, didnt work, went back to blackberry. 6 months later, he gave me the non-working iphone. Long story short, I eventually got it working. I restored to clear everything off of it and to make sure he personal information was not compromised. Now, I want to let my wife use it as an ipod, and if she likes it, I want to activate it with AT&T. However, it seems the iphone wont do anything until I activate it on AT&T. Is there anyway to legally bypass this so I can just use it as an ipod touch? Any help would be appreciated, thanks. iphone 3g, Vista Windows Vista
ive bought the phone on monday, so itll be 7 days when i have the chance to talk to the phone company. (havent noticed it before and couldnt go today due to work)http://home.comcast.net/~yan31/ll.jpg(not mine but mine looks very similar)my question is rather simple: can i demand a new iphone from the phone company? i mean, they sold me a faulty one and i dont want a refurbished one from apple tbh - ive paid for something brand new but received something...faulty. i also dont want to wait days or weeks for a new one. im currently with orange france and it was horrible when my blackberry had a small software problem - RIm immediately dispatched a new one when I called them and didnt even ask to send the BB back immediately. well, so im afraid of them telling me once again **** off and ask %companyname%. i honestly dont care about the light...but i care about the water and dust within the phone.did anyone have a similar problem and got it replaced by the phone company? x86 / lots of different machines :) Other OS Im with the penguin.

It looks like I am missing some thing. I just cannot believe iphone call log is so primitive. I could not get the following information from the call logs:1. Is it an incoming or outgoing call?2. How long was the call?3. List of calls made / received to/from a particular number4. Call logs that lasts 30days or more.First 2 has been there in all the phones including the very basic ones for many many years. Secnd 2 has been there in blackberry for atleast 4 years that I know. Is there an app that would provide these capabilities. Looks like there is an app for all the Apple shortcomings, I would think there is one for this also.Any help would be appreciated.Thanks.

I dont know if any of you have experienced this before but... Im able to get text messages from everyone no matter what carrier but I have this one dear friend of mine that I can text but she cant text me back. The other day we were together and we were playing with our phones (she has a blackberry on vzw) thinking maybe it was a wrong number issue but nope... then a couple day later her phone was stolen and we joked about it cause I said hey maybe your new phone will actually let you text me but no go... I still get no text messages from her. Why is this happening? Is it a carrier issue? I just cant figure it out! I have other friends that text me that are on vzw, sprint, t-mob what the heck!Message was edited by: GraphicTodd Mac OS X (10.5.6)
couldnt find anything in the search function...Is there any reason to hope for the possibility of an upgraded processor in the future for the iphone 3G? i use hardly any apps at all, and i dont have an exorbidant amount of media either. I would just really love it if you could move through menus and standard applications (SMS, contacts, text entry, etc.) with greater response. something along the lines of how the blackberry Bold has just about an instant response to menu navigation and command entry. Thanks for your input! So I am in my car which has built-in bluetooth connectivity so I can speak into my stereo and hear the other person in my car speakers while using my iphone. But when I dial on the iphone, my car stereo does not connect to it until the other person picks up the phone, so I usually miss the person saying hello and they have to ask again by the time it all connects. My dads blackberry is different however, I tried that and my car connects with that phone right when I dial the number and I can hear the ringing on my car speakers so when the person picks up, I can talk to them immediately. Do these two phones have different bluetooth technology or what? Thanks! Mac OS X (10.5.6)
I was surprised how easily the glass broke... I had a black DLO cover on it and dropped it on the wood floor. I did some research and it sounds like it will cost me 250.00 to fix it... Might as well buy a new one with that price.I did cover it with a clear shield plastic sheet so everything does work except it is ugly. But after awhile, I found out it was not only ugly but also was affecting other potential iphone buyers. Our company just converted from blackberry to iphone for many people. Some actually saw my iphone and got discouraged and stayed with blackberry. I did explain that I prefer to have an iphone with broken glass than a blackberry but nope.Just something for Apple to think about... that 250.00 (if that is true) is way too high for something that will cost probably 10-20.00.I may end up using some duct tape to hold the cover down but I still love my iphone. I manage about 20 iPhones over the Rogers network in Southern Ontario. We use them to sync Contact and Calendar info to our First Class email system and to collect email via an IMAP connection to First Class. Ive got some users concerned about data security when they sync their calendars and contacts and about the vulnerability of their email. Most of these concerns come from former blackberry users who felt their data was encrypted with a blackberry and now isnt with the iphone. Oh ya, Ive set up the calendar and contact sync by using instructions my Apple rep gave me. Basically you set up an Exchange account and leave out the domain name and the iphone syncs with First Class perfectly.Any thoughts? Thanks IBM T60p Intel Core 2 Duo - 3GB Nano and 16GB Touch Windows XP Pro Nano 3G 8gb iPod Touch 16g
Apple Genius tells me he is not going to exchange it under warranty, I ask for a manager he then says he will exchange it, after going back and forth 5 times saying yes/no he finally says it is not going to be replaced as it is a cosmetic issue and does not affect the use of the phone. So if I buy a car and the paint peels off after 6 months it is not covered?Nice that Apple covers warranty issues with this kind of professionalism. I for one will never buy anything with Apples name on it or recommend Apple to ANYONE.Bye for good Apple, hello blackberry.
From what Ive read, most people seem to have issues with the iphone battery. I must say that my excitement over this phone has waned a bit due to the lack of battery life with my phone. I got the phone three days ago, and of course, the first day was spent playing and thereby draining the battery. I decided to test things a bit and wanted to see how long I could go without charging the phone. Last night, I fully charged it and unplugged it about 10:30 at night. In the lat 14 hours Ive played bejeweled once, used google maps briefly, checked my email, checked facebook once and sent a text. After only 12 hours of standby and about 2 hours of usage, the battery was at 20%. Wi-fi is off, 3G is off, brightness is turned down and my email is being pushed, because well, thats what I wanted the phone for (I switched from a blackberry to the iphone).Im just shocked to know that I wont be able to go a day without charging the phone. What if I am traveling and want to play on it? I rely on Google maps many days when Im out and about and that seems to suck the life straight out of the battery. It would seem the only options are to buy an aftermarket charger booster (or whatever theyre called) for the times Im not in the car or dont have a plug or computer available. Are there any recommendations from anyone?? Besides shutting everything off of course. Is my situation what everyone else is experiencing or should I be getting more life from my battery?? iphone 3G

Forgive me for my naivity...but its hard to find an exact answer on the net about this. My situation is that I really want to switch from my blackberry to an iphone as I own a MBP and would like to stay purely Apple. The problem is that I currently teach in Cuba (am on holiday now in Canada) where I need to use an unlocked phone because there is no big companies there like AT&T, Rogers, etc. I just use pay-as-you-go there. Is it even possible to use an unlocked iphone without a data plan? Is it possible to have an iphone where you simply put in a new SIM card depending on where in the world you are and pay as you go? I dont really care about using the phone to surf the internet etc., I can do without that, I just want to use it as a phone, and use calender, etc. It would be nice to be all Apple, and there are some things about my blackberry which I dont really like. Its time for a switch. I know you can buy used iPhones online which are unlocked (I searched for this), but I want to know if I went this way, would I still be able to do software updates when I sync my phone, etc. from Apple..ie: would Apple be ok with me owning one of these or is it frowned upon? Does this make sense what I want? I hope so..any help appreciated! Thanks MacBook Pro Mac OS X (10.5.6) iLife 9

I just got an iphone 3G Gift card for the 16 gig version. ($299). I already have ATT service, for over 10 years. Currently have a blackberry. But the instructions on the gift card concern me. I have an ATT retails store a mile from me (I cant go right now and ask, Im at work). Do I actually have to drive 75 miles to the nearest Apple Retail store in order to get it and activate it? HUH? I cant go to my local ATT (company ATT store, not an agent store) and get my phone and set everything up? Sorry, but I do not trust the Apple Store to not muck up my ATT account, and how in the world would they have THAT much access to ATTs system anyway? I will NOT have that happen. Its down to the iphone & the blackberry Bold. One of the features I like on the Bold is the conference capability. The user can link or join conference with 5 other users. How many does the iphone allow or is it just a 3-way call. Also, will OS 3.0 include greater conference features?
Im planning a vacation in a couple of months at a resort (no names so the paparazzi dont follow me) and I want that to be AWAY, really AWAY from normal life, ie no phone calls. The resort advertises free WiFi, so what Id like is to be able to turn off the cellular phone service but leave the WiFi active - no phone calls in but I could surf out for games and other amusements (well, okay maybe email and texts too). Has anyone else had major issues with the iphone 3G? Im on my FOURTH phone in 3 months, am extremely frustrated and on the verge of going back to blackberry. I actually like the iphone when it works. I have searched the forums for answers to this, but all situations Ive found are different. So, Im gonna ask for my set of circumstances. I am coming from a 1st gen iphone to a 3g. (with a brief 3 week stop by a blacberry)On 1st gen I had all services on always. Wi-fi, bluetooth, 1 yahoo mail account set to push. 20-30 texts per day, reading email several times a day, a little web browsing on edge and wi-fi, played games ocasionally but not frequently, and 1-2 hours of music played daily. I normally charged the phone nightly, but it always had 30-50% battery remaining and went for 2 days ocasionally when I forgot to charge it. Off charger 6:30 AM back on charge normally 11:00 PM, so roughly 16-17 hours betwwen charges and it never went dead. I was happy with this. Now new 3g that I got 2 days ago. Location services-off, wi-fi-off, bluetooth-on(headset paired and connected but not talking), 3g-on(full bars whenever I check), and the 1 yahoo account set to push. My battery is at 20% by 3:00 PM. That is without the above mentioned use. During this 8-9 hours, no texts, no browsing, no talking, reading 1-2 emails. Thats it. I always hold down home button to exit out of any app back to home screen. This cant be normal, can it? I tried running the battery all the way down then a full recharge last night. Also did a reset (home+power till logo appears) Same problem today. If bluetooth and 3g alone eat up this much battery, then unfortunately I may have to go back to that blackberry (and Id rather not)! So, I guess my long winded questioin is. Should I just trade it for another new iphone and try again (especially since its only 2 days old), or are there any other suggestions?Thank you in advance!!(One more thing. I dont know if this is relevant or not. But when I got the new iphone the battery was completely dead. The AT&T store had to charge it for 20-30 minutes before they could even activate it. I thought phones shipped with at least a partial charge.) Windows XP

I have had the I-phone for about a week now. This phone has some strong points however The I-phone is missing some basic futures that are standerd in almost every cell phone. The first is the video camera. I cant think of any cell phone that does not have one. The second concern is the camera. What use is a camera with out zoom or a flash. Even the most basic cell phones have complete cameras. The third concern is that it does not appear that the I phone can save stored phone numbers to the sim card. I am left without words to describe this oversight. It does not end there. Fourth I recently found out the I-phone cannot send or receive multimedia picture or video messages. How can apple send out a phone to market that clearly was not ready yet. To make it worst the buyer is not aware of these short comings until its too late. After the phone is purchased and cannot be returned to the service provider. Yet the bleeding dosent stop there.Im told that the blackberry has everything that i mentioned and in addition you can produce complete word perfect documents on it. I hope apple is reading this and will provide software updates to correct these concerns because I feel like I have just purchased the second or third best phone on the market. 3G Windows XP Pro

Okay, Im one of a select few who had no desire to upgrade to the 3G since 3G is not available in my area. I must travel to Lex, KY or some surrounding areas to get 3G yet I rarely do so. So why is apple limiting some new updates such as MMS to only the 3G phone? I believe AT&T needs to start expanding 3G service or Im about to jump ship to say...Verizon, which a family member of mine has in my area that has 3G. Its going to be a tough sell the new blackberry storm over an iphone, but still, I cant believe the limitations Apple is putting on their original phones and not making AT&T keep up with their advances in technology. Does anyone know if the 3.0 update adds the feature to customize the SMS and e-mail sounds, similar to that of blackberry?I currently own a blackberry, and would like to buy an iphone, but the lack of this feature is holding me back. I have never had a phone or iPod with such a poor battery life, even in the oldest days of cell phones. Even with everything except the phone turned off. This is incredible! After much frustration with dropped calls (seem to be on the increase each month since purchased in Sep 08) and No Service in my house, I think I need a different phone. Plus the touch-screen e-mail is kind of a pain and I ALWAYS make mistakes. If I disconnect the phone/data, will it still pick up Wi-Fi like the Touch? I still will use it for music, pictures, apps(?), etc. but dont know if it will do that if I change over my phone/data service to a (gasp!) blackberry. I synced my phone over the weekend and got a message about update carrier settings which I believe relates to cell service interface. Searching the forum here, there seems to be a number of posts about this starting early Feb on the East coast, and including Australia and parts of Europe; none seemed to have any concrete resolution. Some posts say performance is much worse after, some say much better. Im in Southern California, could be something AT&T didnt roll out there till recently?Since updating mine, I get No Service in places where things used to be fine, like my home, and side by side with my AT&T 3G blackberry (from my employer - I wouldnt choose that beast) the iphone may show 2-3 bars less signal than the crack-berry. Not scientific, I know, but if the berry only has 2, the iphone is dead in the water.Anyone else in SoCal seeing this? Any tips on what to do about my perceived problem? Thanks! Okay I had heard so much and excuse me if I am wrong but I find actualy using the iphone as part of my work was not a bright idea. There are many functions which I can not do. Like working with Word docs. I guess the simplest thing I miss is cut or copy and paste from anywhere to anything in phone. Maybe the people at AT&T said this could be done, but I cant do it. Maybe I have been to busy to stop and figure or I am just a idiot like I said before. Can anyone help or maybe some Apps. might solve my problem. It just seems the iphone is a bunch of seperate Apps and none of them work with each other. thank you and sorry for any mistakes. iphone 3G 2.2
