Cant see recent backups when trying manual backup or restore iphone

My iphone crashed the second day I had it (2 weeks ago). I immediately did a restore from the summary page in itunes. I have since had other problems caused by an application. All apps and functions working fine right now, except at this point I see no other backups listed other than the one done on the second day when I look in the backup list accessed by starting the MANUAL restore process. I dont even see any manual backups I have performed. I synch my iphone once or more per day. Because of this (I think) I am losing all app data whenever I have to restore after crashes because I cant choose a more recent backup to restore from. Anyway to use Gps to track lost phone iphone

Unfortunetly, this being the second iphone i purchase due to having my previous one stolen, i then agian misplaced it. I do know this one was not stolen but was completly my fault. This brings me to my question of, how come apple cannot locate my phone using the amazing gps the phone already had available on it?. A charge would be completly appropriate, but i believe it would just bring somthing more to the table. Everyone at one point either misplaces or reports their phone stolen, so why not a nifty idea of having the phone completly trackable so no one would ever even think of stealing this phone again? i think this is a great idea, but perhaps i am over looking an application that is already available. please, and references or commments, i am more than happy to listen to. iphone 3G Windows XP

WOW I hate App Store software updates iphone 3G

Does anyone elses phone take forever to update an application? Has anyone else updated an App only have it send your phone into a reset? I just updated Texas Holdem on my phone. After 10 minutes of waiting for the thing to update, I re-synced my phone so it would copy onto my iMac and WOW, a half hour later and the meter hasnt budged. Not to mention that I had to make more the 245mb of memory available to upgrade a 129mb app(according to the app store). Whats that all about?! iphone Monopoly application wont open

I have downloaded the Monopoly application and it wont open. When i select it on my iphone it just flashes up and automatically closes again. I have tried everything to try and get it to work.I have deleted Monopoly and re-downloaded it, I have deleted it from my iphone and re-synced it, I have turned off my phone and turned it on again, I have delete all other applications and just tried to put Monopoly on my phone, I have restored my whole phone, I have called Apple support and they told me to try all of these above things and more, nothing seems to get it to work. i have tried everything i can think of.Any ideas? iphone Windows XP

Synching Irritations. iphone 3G

Two really annoying things that continue to drive me up the wall:1) Every time I want to transfer pictures onto my phone or maybe just even one new song, why does iTunes force me to do a complete backup of my phone? What would take 10 seconds ends up taking 20 minutes for absolutely no reason.2) Why when I opt NOT to sync ALL of my apps, does it tell me it will REMOVE Them from my phone completely? No! Why would I want them DELETED? Since when does not copying over something that is ALREADY ON THE PHONE mean that I want them deleted completely from the phone? It doesnt make any sense. None. If I dont have them all checked, it will delete the one not checked.I tried to NOT sync my apps so that I could speed up the process of just syncing my photos. So it tells me its going to delete all my apps if I do that. iTunes is such a miserable failure in the world of Apple/Mac which dominates the logic/useability world in every other arena. It continues to confound me the absolute poor structure, logic, and programming of their flagship software app.I mean seriously, how hard is it for this application to know that its already got all my apps both in itunes and on the phone? Every time I connect it, it starts copying over my apps all over again. Why? Is this 1983 when it cant tell if the app has been updated and needs synching? If someone can give me some input on these items I would appreciate it. VAIO

Im using a 3G iphone running version 2.2 that I connect to my car radio via a Dension IceLink connection. Apart from a few applications that I have installed, the iphone is standard, not jailbroken.Until recently, although I received the usual this accessory is not made to work with the iphone, would you like to use Airplane mode message whenever I connect the iphone to the car radio, the connection worked fine and I was able to play songs through the car radio using the iPod interface on the iphone. At first, I wasnt able to charge the iphone. Strange iphone 3G mutes sponaneously

Hello,since three days my iphone 3G behaves a little bit strange.It started with spontaneous vibrations of my iphone in sleep-mode without touching it. When I woke it up using the home-button it showed the white bell-symbol for one second over the normal lock screen. No, I did not receive any SMS or email Then it became worse: When waking up the phone with the home-button, it showed the strike-through mute-bell and vibrated shortly. But the slider on the upper left of the phone was still up in normal mode! When I klicked it down afterwards, nothing happened. When klicking back upwards, the normal bell-symbol showes up again.This always happens when the phone is in sleep-mode for a few minutes. Mostly it shows the white bell while waking up (okay, thats no problem, but it isnt normal either), from time to time it switches into mute mode while waking up (THATS a problem!). I can only make it ring again by klicking the switch down and up again.I already did a restore using iTunes, but that doesnt change anything. Ever since then the phone seems really slow, however after I restarted it came up with the connect to iTunes screen asking me to activate. I force restarted and it came back fine, then the slowness, and now the app store is giving me the us version, apps like pandora are displayed, and everything is in dollars. Does anyone know why the iphone applications, Safari and iPod, are so linked?Ever since the very original 1.0 iphone, crashes in Safari have wreaked havoc with the iPods database that lets it keep track of where you are in a song and what has been played when. Even in the newest version of the iphone software and on an iphone 3G, this is a problem.Yes, things have gotten somewhat better. Safari crashes less often than it used to (although still quite often enough). If Safari crashes while you are listening to a song, it will probably keep its place. However, if you dont have something playing in the iPod application, and Safari crashes, it is likely that the iPod will forget where you were if you stopped in the middle of a song in the middle of a playlist. It also forgets which podcasts were listened to already, and it loses track of last-played and playcount information when it is next synced.Ive been with the iphone since the beginning, and upgraded to a 3G as soon as I could. I sync it pretty regularly. Ive been through two original iPhones (bad audio jack on one after several months) and two 3Gs (locked up in the connect to iTunes screen, and even an Apple Genius couldnt get it to exit that mode). Also, Ive used a few Macs over all this time (one at a time) to run iTunes and sync. So I know this happens on multiple iPhones, multiple computers, and multiple copies and versions of iTunes.Its so frustrating that I cant use the iPhones iPod feature as it is intended. I find myself often bringing a nano along just because I know it will properly track my activities and hold my place. Thats hardly what was intended.Is it really that hard for Apple to protect the song information and separate it from Safari crashes? How does Safari crash in a way that it corrupts the song activity information? I dont see any other databses (such as mail, contacts, notes, or the files affiliated with other applications) being wrecked by Safari crashes.I can deal with the Safari crashes. Theyre a pain, but you kind of get used to them. (Even though, 18 months from introduction, its pretty amazing they are still so frequent.) I want copy and paste badly on the iphone. But I want an iPod that works even more. Removing Passcode from iphone when using Exchange e-mail

I have an I-Phone 3g with the current version of the software. I recently added my works Exchange email accesss and when I did the iphone required a passcode.I went to SETTINGS - GENERAL - PASSCODE LOCK it shows it is on.I hit the tab, enter my passcode, click OK and under REQUIRE PASSCODE it shows Immediately. I can change the time to a longer period before is requests the passcode 1 min or 5 minutes - but I cannot disable it!Nor can I remove the ERASE DATA ofter three successive trys.To add insult to injury, I accidentally hit the Emergency Call button on the passcode screen, canceled it and when I entered my passcode it did not recognize it. I cleared out the old code, re-entered the correct code and it still did not recognize my passcode. Then it ERASED ALL MY DATA on the third unsuccessful attempt.I restored from my December 31, backup on Itunes, (45 minutes later) I tried the same thing to see if it was recurring and it was. This time I did not try to enter the code a third time, I turned off the iphone, and then restarted it. Thankfully it reset the memory or something and the correct code (which I had been entering all along) was accepted. This is happening every time the Emergency Call button is pressed on the passcode screen. I have found a temporary workaround, but this needs to be fixed on about three levels.FIRST - The passcode needs to work when returning from an emergency call.SECOND - We should be ale to decide if we want a passcode on our phone and not have it forced upon us.THIRD - If this is for e-mail security, then the passcode should only be required when accessing the e-mail application not the entire phone.So, comments suggestions, or any ideas are greatly appreciated, I want to remove that passcode.....help.I want to remove the requirement for the passcode, but I can only change the passcode, nor disable it, any suggestions? I have a slide show that I have converted to iphone version. It has an extension of m4v. It shows up in the Movies section of the Library. I right clicked on the file and selected Show is playlist Purchased.When I sync my phone, it doesnt show up in videos in the Ipod application. This movie doesnt sync with phone. Hi, (Newbie)I have purchased 5 Iphones for my business. We can not open a word document with the extension .doc on ANY of the Iphones we have purchased?We have the latest OS upgrades on all phones yet we get the message error opening file type or it is password protected. These are the new 3G Iphones.The issue is from using email within Microsoft Exchange enviroment and it shows up on the email as word.doc ?We tap it to open and no joy. (you can not save the document either and this is an issue also)I have rang Apple directly and they state this IS an issue? We have bought these phones after reading you can view word, excel etc on the Apple web site and this is all we wish to do. Well I havent ever seen reference to it anywhere, and after suggesting it to an open-source phone community, I realized Id probably like it on my phone as well.Of course, multi-touch is not available on the phones I suggested it for, which is the reason I thought of it, but it could be put to good use on the iphone as well.Accelerometer functions in both the Map, and the iPod features. Maps such as: When phone is locked while still in the maps application, hitting either the home or power button would bring up the map and route if available. a shake to the right would move the route forward one step, and the left, one back.iPod such as: when the phone is locked but playing, instead of hitting the home button twice, a double shake to skip to the next song.Sure these arent necessary to most iphone users, but it does add quite a bit to those who use the maps function while driving, or alternative head-phones while listening to music.Dont flame me yet!takes deep breath and starts running, never to return to apple discussionsokay start flaming now! Cliffnotes:-Facebook App for iphone was messed up, kept logging me off-Deleted Facebook application, reset my phone-iphone no longer worked after i turned it on, was in Recover mode.-Got home, restored it, noticed that my whole iTunes library was actually gone.-Found out my bro backed up some Files on my computer to a hard drive (this may be why my iTunes library is gone)-Extremely upset and need help.Full, Uncut Version:-So here I am with my iphone, just doing my normal thing, and I try to open up my Facebook application. For some reason, even when I typed the correct email/ password combo it would not log me in, so I changed my password and then it would log me off within 3 seconds of logging in. I decided I would delete the application and redownload it.-After deletion, I decided to restart my phone. I turned it off and tried to turn it back on, but it would not turn back on. It was in Recover mode so I needed to connect it to iTunes. -So I get home, connect my iphone to my computer, and restore it. After it is restored, I notice that ALL my songs, applications, music, movies are ALL GONE. So my whole library is gone. -Extremely annoyed already, I find out my bro just backed up some files on the computer to a hard drive. I believe he also backed up my iTunes library.-With everything gone, my iphone is working now, but i have no idea how to get all my stuff back. I am extremely upset and need help.My Questions::-How exactly can I restore my iTunes library?--Dont I need to find where the library backup file is in the hard drive? What type of file is the backup file (if it is a file?) ?? I notice today that emails are again not pushed to my iphone. It has been working fine since the last upgrade to MobileMe. i deleted the mail account and reinstalled and the problem is still there. Using an iphone to connect MacBook Pro Laptop to internet 3G

Anyone heard of an application iphone or MacBook Pro based that will allow me to use the phone as a 3G bridge to the internet. It isnt often but sometimes I find myself with no WiFi connection and a need to connect my laptop remotely to the internet. As I have the iphone and the laptop, I see no point in having to buy a separate 3G card for the Express 34 slot. Maps App Multiple Destinations iphone

Two questions:A) Is there a way for me to input multiple destinations into the Maps application.B) If so, is there a way that Maps can order the stops in the Route from closest to furthest so that I can make the most of my time? (i.e. if I put 3 different destinations, I dont want it to take me to the further one first just because I have it listed first).If this is not possible in the Maps app, is there a website I can use to do this? Applications are quitting unexpectedly iphone 3G

I have a new iphone 3G, that is fully updated, and whenever I am using any application for awhile it will quit unexpectedly and return to the home screen. Even safari will do this. When I am typing a text message, the words will appear on the screen extremely slower then what I am typing. I only have like 14 applications installed. Can anyone help me out!!!!! My other question is instead of trying to arrange your icons on your iphone, can you do it on your computer when you are Syncing with iTunes by using your mouse. iphone 3G not appear in iTunes 8.02 on Mac OS X 10.4.11

I have an iBook G4 running 10.4.11 and iTunes 8.02. I have been previously able to use it with my iphone 3G with no problems. Abruptly, the iphone stopped appearing in my iTunes sidebar. I have restarted my computer, the iphone, re-installed iTunes about 5 times and nothing has worked. The iTunesHelper application is running as verified in Activity Monitor. The phone is recognized by the computer since it appears on the USB bus in system profiler and I can view pictures on it in iPhoto. This happens regardless of which USB port I plug the phone into. The phone appears in iTunes on other computers (both Mac and PC).I want to upgrade to 2.2 but I have extensive contact/calendar changes to sync so DFU mode is not a route I am willing to take.What other fixes should I try? iBook G4 Mac OS X (10.4.11)

hi, Im really need your help with this. I have my iphone for a month and everything was okay since yesterday when i used the Safari. suddenly, the iphone was stuck and it didnt react for some minutes. so, i restarted it, and then for my surprise everything worked fine but the phone button. when i pushed on it, the interface of the keyboard opened but it didnt response when i pushed on the numbers or any other application of this interface. since then, i cant make phone calls from the phone button, but i can make phone calls from the contact list without the ability to disconnect .I restarted the iphone many times but it didnt change it. Problem Turning iphone 3G On

I think this started two days ago when my iphone ran out of batteries for the first time since I got it in September. I charged it overnight and it began to work normally again. Yesterday I was using an application (NY Times application) on the phone and it just turned itself off. I turned it back on, went back to using the application and it turned itself off again, so I thought the problem was the application. I turned it back on and used Safari and again the iphone just turned off. After this time when I pressed the On button the apple would show as if the phone was starting up and then it would turn off again. After doing this three times or so the apple stopped showing. I put the phone to charge even though it had almost full batteries and it started showing the apple again, but it turned itself off afterwards. I left it at the charger and in two or three hours I went to get the phone and it turned on normally. While using it later at night to check my email, the phone turned itself off again, and afterwards the apple startup appeared before the phone once again turned off. I went back to the charger left it there and the apple startup appeared and the phone turned itself off again. Then it wouldnt do anything when I held the On button. I went to bed thinking that leaving it to charge would do the trick.This morning the phone wont respond to anything, nor the charger, nor the computer, nor the On button. I have no idea whats wrong with it because its in perfect condition, and its always worked perfectly.What should and what could I do?Thanks in Advance!Luiz P

I am looking to switch to the iphone when my contract expires in February and I have a question. I currently work in a hospital and get almost no cell signal inside the building. My current phone continues to search for a signal throughout the day and depletes my battery because of the searching. Is there a way to turn the cell phone part of the iphone off or at least keep it from search for a signal without turning the phone off? I would like to the use the WIFI part of the phone but if the cell phone application is going to drain the battery it will not be worth using it at work.Hopefully this question makes some sort of sense. I have a quick question about the GPS settings on the iphone (Settings > General > Location Services) if you turn it off or on. My question is this: does turning it on lock your GPS position (and thus reduce your battery life) only when an application requests it or all the time. I am starting suspect that it is constantly on because I am getting near instant satellite lock times even when indoors. I dont want to be walking around all day draining what precious battery life i get!A good comparison here is WIFI and Bluetooth, even if you are not connected to a wireless network or a Car-kit your battery will die far quicker if the option is switched on. 24" Imac, 2.16Ghz, 3GB Ram, 7600GT Mac OS X (10.5.5)

I, like a lot of other people out there have been upset when firmware after firmware updates are released without any sign of any of the features that we take for granted should be available. Things like true GPS navigation, cut, copy and paste and many other features that are taken for granted on other phones.Well I think I can partially help you out, at least those people wanting cut, copy and paste. First of all anyone that hasnt bought it already, buy AppSniper. Its cheap and will quite possibly be the best money you spend on your iphone. Anyways I was using AppSniper and come across a program called MagicPad, its a notepad style application that supports Cut, Copy and Paste as well as various other features. Its normally worth $4.99 and for a short time is being given away free, (for Christmas and to point out to Apple that it can be done). I havent actually got to use it yet but thats only because its only free for a short time and I figured it would be better 2 hop on the boards, and let everyone on here know what it does and that its free for a short time at the App Store.Anyways, I hope it helps a lot of you guys that want this feature. If its as good as it says I cant see why Apple wont add support for it system wide. Even if they need 2 tweak it slightly.
