A recent OS upgrade broke wifi on my iPhone3G. I visited the Genius Bar in Bellevue Washington and was told that my phone is no longer under warrantee yet I am under contract with AT&T. One of the Geniuses (not the one who I was most closely working with) mentioned this is a common occurrence. The primary Genius I was working with offered to take 50% off the price of a replacement. I politely declined so I would have time to think.I believe the facts are:1. a mandatory iphone software upgrade broke or otherwise disabled wifi2. Apples warrantee expired on my iphone, Apple is choosing not to extend this warrantee3. Im still under contract with AT&TI dont feel that Ive done anything wrong because from my research a software upgrade broke or disabled functionality. I feel used because Apple broke the phone with software and Im the one expected to pay for the repairhttp://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2158541&start=210&tstart=0 has posts from frustrated users as wellany tips? is there a path that we can follow to get my iphone working again? Is it proven that the upgrade did in fact break the hardware or disable the functionality? Are there any URLs with credible technical details? could there be a software repair?Thanks!-CGMessage was edited by: chgray iphone 3g iphone OS 3.1.2 WIFI broken after 3.1.x upgrade, device not uner warantee, Apple choosing not to extend warantee
Continue to have problems phoning out, where every thing else works SMS - internet phone in etc. Have reset the phone / reloaded the software / changed the SIM card etc but still no success - appreciate any more innovative ideas please. HP Windows 2000
Ok so heres the story so far:At the start of the year, I bought an iphone 3g from a person in my college class. She didnt like touch screens at all so she sold it to me. The phone has worked fine for 2 and a half weeks now, until two days ago, I wake up and go to check my emails, to see that my connection is lost instantly. I didnt think much of it, but I realised that when I tried to phone out, my calls were instantly cancelled. I had no idea what was happening. Then I checked the top left hand corner; no signal.Totally gutted by this, I tried a few setting changes to see if that made any difference. None whatsoever. I decided that I would take the phone to the person who knows them best: A guy who works in O2 who I used to go to school with, Chris. Chris is an avid iphone user, he loves the things to bits, so I felt that he would be able to get it working again.Still with me here? Ok. Chris told me that my phone may be blocked by the person who used to own it. I felt my rear end tighten at this point. He phoned an O2 customer service number and went though to customer support and asked them to do a check on my IMEI number to see if the phone has been blocked for insurance reasons. Nope, the phone is fine. Next he decided to see if the SIM was ok, so he popped my SIM out and seen that it was as old as the hills. It has GEMPLUS on it, it was total GPRS. Time to upgrade to a 3g SIM! I got that and got my number transferred over to the new SIM, which takes approx 24 hours. He also told me to do a complete restore on my phone just incase it was the software that was to blame, so off I went home and wiped my entire phone and re-updated it again.Today at about 12pm, I noticed that the top left hand corner has changed from No Service back to O2 again.... but still, there was no signal in the corner! Raging at this point! I popped into the store again and had to explain the situation to yet another person, for her to then do everything that Chris had told me. She asked if I had put my SIM in another card and I hadnt. She took out her SIM (which came from an iphone) and popped it into my iphone. Hers doesnt come up with any signal either! So from a proccess of elimination, we have discovered that it is indeed an iphone error, not a SIM error. Should have done that long ago, but I dont know anyone else who is on O2 that I could have borrowed.Thing is though, I updated the software and it was fine, but still no signal. Hardware problem?Only problem with this is that I bought the phone from a third party, not an Apple store. Can I still claim repairs (if it is a hardware fault) even though I dont have a reciept? I went onto the Apple store, I checked its Warranty status and it said Limited Warranty, which I am guessing means its still in its 1 year warranty. I know when it comes to XBOX warranties, all you have to do is register the console in your name and that is that, they do not ask for reciepts ect, as long as your phone is in the warranty period it is covered, but then again, every company is different eh? Apple is extremely tight!Anyone elses views on this epic story so far? If you have a suggestion for me to try, feel free to say, I am waiting!Update - My phone is coming up with:Restricted NetworkYour selected cellular network is restricted. You can choose a different network in settings. EH??? Its worked fine on O2 since I owned it, and the person before me owned it on O2!!!Message was edited by: Alistair_DoranMessage was edited by: Alistair_Doran 3g iphone OS 3.1.2

Furthermore, the button on other set of (brand new) headphones does not work with my iphone.I did a factory reinstall of the iphone software. did not fix.Any thoughts? Many thanks in advance. hey, Im on the latest software update (3.1.2) and Ive fully restored the phone to nothing, and I still can only get a phone signal when I turn off 3g. Ive seen a few people with the same problem online but Ive not seen any solutions, has anyone had this problem and resolved it?Im on a macbook pro if that makes any difference!thanksReuben MacBook Pro iphone OS 3.1.2
Hi,recently my iphone 3g (i bought it half a year ago and im running the latest software) wont respond to plucking out the headset. So even though there are no headphones or head-set being used, it still stays in head-set mode. Reading along some posts here, ive tried several solution options, but none of them would work for me. Heres what ive tried so far:1.) plucking headphones in and out several of times2.) resetting the iPhone3.) restoring the iPhone4.) cleaning the headset/headphone insertNone of all these options have worked to fix my problem. Now it sometimes switches back to regular microphone and speaker function, but that only lasts for couple of minutes. Ive also figured that it might have something to do with my iphone overheating - is that possible? Are there any other solutions out there? Maybe a software-option which lets you control the input/outputs? Cause it doesnt seem to be a hardware problem, at least not for me.Thanks MacBookPro Mac OS X (10.5.6)
This is to accumulate our suggestions for enhancements to the iphone O/S in one place for Apple developers. Ill bet a similar discussion exists, but I wasnt able to locate them with a couple searches. Key words: recommendations suggestions wish list improvements.1. Have the software place and rank our speed dial contacts based on our actual calling patterns.2. Show two speed dial contacts per row instead of one.3. Have a scheduler for the screen brightness. For example, select with slider the brightness you want effective 7:00 pm and 7 a.m. (I am aware of the auto-brightness feature, but I still need to adjust the the brightness manually twice a day.)4. Provide a convenient way to exchange contacts with those who have Palms, BBs, and Pocket PCs. iphone iphone OS 3.1.2
I have no Wi-Fi on my iphone at the moment. I have followed the suggested 3 step approach to resolving this problem but to no avail. Before I go into the store where I bought it (in Japan), can anyone tell me what has happened to my phone? Is this a software, an up-date, or broken phone problem? As this will just be my local Softbank store, I need to get as much information as possible before I describe the problem to the part-timer working behind the counter. Any help would be great.Muz Intel 24, Intel 20, MacBook Mac OS X (10.5.8)

I recently signed up and paid like 10 dollars for a dev team user to sign me up legally to use the iphone new sdk 3.0. i downloaded the newest iphone software today - and now cant send a text message - but can still receive them????
after connecting my iphone 3g and syncing successfully using iTunes 9.0 and the latest iphone software, a programme called MDCrashReport.exe launches and bring the CPU to a standstill by taking 99% of processor time. This behaviour occurs even if the phone is ejected from iTunes and iTunes is closed down. The only way to stop it is to force a quit through task manager.Has anyone experienced this? What can I do to stop it happening.Thanks. HP Pavilion Windows XP SP3 HP Pavilion SP3
Hello,Just a brief history of my iphone to start. Purchased in December of 09 via Best Buy. About 3 months ago I started to have connectivity issues with the iphone. I would not receive notices of people calling and my text messages would come 12-48 hrs later than when they were sent. I called AT&T first regarding the issue. They pointed the finger at Apple and said it was their issue, I felt that it was their issue. I blamed their 3g network for the issue, as well as stating that they do not keep their end of the bargain regarding the best 3g network. I threatened a class action lawsuit against them regarding the false claims of their cellular network in Wisconsin being available to my area. That aroused someone because before I knew it I was being told that I would get a new phone. I received the new phone within 5 days. The phone I received is no better than my previous iphone. Same issues as stated above, as well as searching for service, showing one bar with the edge symbol, and having the phone remove the edge symbol when making a call. Its ridiculous to say the least. So one of my questions is, can Apples hardware or software be the issue or is it a case of AT&T network being non compatible with Apples hardware or vice versa? Let me also state that its not just me with these problems where I live(Area code 53559) but others as well with the iphone 3g. Here is the funny part, one of my friends has the 3Gs and his phone does great where I live, 4-5 bars constantly to my one or none. This brings me to believe that the 3Gs hardware is different some how? Antennae?etc. Is this true? Im at my ropes end trying to get my phone to work like it should. Im also exhausted dealing with the blame game between Apple and AT&T. If anyone has any answers or advice I would appreciate it very much. Regarding the Subject of this post, does anyone elses card come up short of fitting(Could this contribute to the connectivity issues?) the tray perfectly front to rear?Message was edited by: yokomo Mac OS X (10.4.8)
My phone started acting up yesterday and then it started only showing the apple logo. It flashes off and on. I plugged it in the computer and it stopped when plugged in. I then downloaded the new software and it still does the same thing. Any help or information you can give will be greatly appreciated. I bought the phone overseas so I doubt I can get official support here in the USA. I just moved back to the USA from Singapore. Macbook
Hi there, recently ive had A LOT of problems with the lock/switch off button. It never works, it doesnt lock, it wont bring up the Power Off option, nor will it recognise it if Im holding it and the home button down (so in other words, the only way to turn my iphone off is to let it run out of battery.)I read on a couple of 3rd party forums saying that this is most likely a software error rather than a hardware one so I went to restore my iphone, after it switched off, iTunes froze and quit itself.my iphone has been stuck on that screen with the apple logo and the progress bar ever since.iTunes wont recognise it, and the light on my USB hub doesnt even come on when its plugged in, so obviously the phone doesnt even realise its plugged in.I dont know what to do, theres a 5 day wait to book into the genius bar at my nearest apple store, and I really need my phone. What to do? I estimate at this rate it will take a few days for it to run out of battery, so waiting for that to happen and then plugging it in isnt really an option, not to mention without the software to recognise being plugged in, that approach is useless.ANY advice is welcomed immediately.Regards,Joel Macbook Pro 15" Mac OS X (10.6.2)
I have an iphone 3g.The touchscreen is so sensitive, that it sometimes registers a touch even if my finger is a 1/4 of an inch away. The behavior comes and goes, and sometimes so bad that it is impossible to operate the phone at all, as all touches seem random.Restarting (powerdown, wait, restart) does not help.iTunes is up to date.iphone software is up to date. The phone is relatively new, and has not been dropped. The screen has no scratches, or smudges, and is cleaned only with a moist (water only) cloth.Anyone else have this problem? My wife has an iphone 3g on a monthly contract with O2 in the UK.I sent her a picture (MMS) message from my 3GS which she couldnt receive as her phone wasnt set up for MMS.She sent the required text message to O2 who duly responded by saying that they would set up MMS and let her know when it was available to her. Then NOTHING! She sent 2 more texts to O2 and got 2 more standard replies but still no picture messaging.Eventually she sent an email to O2 who asked if she had the latest iphone software and if MMS was switched on. She replied that she had and it was and O2 said theyd look into it.There was then a few days silence and now O2 appear to be stumped. Theyve asked my wife to phone them on an 0870 number to try to sort it out. Before she does that, however, does anyone on this forum have any ideas? I did a search and couldnt find similar symptoms...Im getting massive delays intermittently between messages being sent to my phone and them actually being received at my end. Having been quite content with the performance of my iphone 3g 8GB in the year and a half or so that Ive had it, I naturally suspected that my carrier was as fault. I spent some time doing some tests with other phones I have lying around and had no such issues with the same sim card, messages arrive almost instantly. Other symptoms include, incessant messages declaring could not activate cellular data network randomly whilst not actually doing anything seemingly data related. Intermittent periods of No Service, several backed up messages arriving as soon as someone rings me, often sent many hours previous.Sending SMS is just as difficult it often takes five or six attempts to get a message to send. Again, something that doesnt happen with different handsets using the same sim card. When I walk to the back area of my workplace I also get a glut of backed up delayed messages, seemingly because Im connected to a different tower, but at the other end of the work place I have full reception and 3g. Its as though the phone cant handle the switch between different mobile cells. These delays occur outside my workplace as well, at 3am the other morning I received a glut of six messages Id been sent at around 5pm the previous evening. I now have to tell people that sending me an sms is highly unreliable and they should ring me.With the 3.1 update my phone had all the reception issues that many people had to deal with, they where seemingly fixed with the 3.1.1 and 3.1.2 updates only to be replaced with a software package that stops me for being able to use my iphone for SMS messages. Is there anything I can do to fix this? Hi, first time posting. Im about ready to toss out my beloved iphone 3g. Ive never, in my 1 and 1/2 years of owning the iphone 3g, come across this type of situation before. Hoping someone can help.I was happily on FW version 3.0.1 with everything working just fine. Then one night, the iphone wouldnt respond to me pushing the sleep/wake button, so I tried a hard reset, but that threw the phone into either DFU mode or Recovery mode (screen was just blank). So I tried restoring with iTunes, but it wouldnt restore. iTunes would always get to Verifying iphone Restore with the progress bar, but never complete. The progress bar on the iphone itself under the Apple logo would also freeze (but where it would freeze seems to depend on the FW version Im trying to restore). I have since tried with FW versions 3.0, 3.0.1, 3.1, and 3.1.2. I have tried with iTunes versions 8.2 and 9.0.2 (fresh re-installs also).I have tried on various operating systems: Windows 7 Professional 64-bit, XP, Vita, Mac OS X.I checked my iphone software Updater Logs and they all have the same error:2010-01-12 16:21:28.839 iTunes.exe5564:11f0: <Restore Device 0825D740>: operation 14 progress 1002010-01-12 16:21:28.970 iTunes.exe5564:11f0: <Restore Device 0825D740>: operation 15 progress -12010-01-12 16:21:41.022 iTunes.exe5564:11f0: <Restore Device 0825D740>: operation 16 progress -12010-01-12 16:21:41.128 iTunes.exe5564:11f0: <Restore Device 0825D740>: operation 15 progress -12010-01-12 16:21:41.336 iTunes.exe5564:11f0: <Restore Device 0825D740>: operation 16 progress -12010-01-12 16:21:46.956 iTunes.exe5564:11f0: <Restore Device 0825D740>: operation 27 progress -12010-01-12 16:21:49.167 iTunes.exe5564:11f0: <Restore Device 0825D740>: operation 27 progress -12010-01-12 16:21:50.486 iTunes.exe5564:11f0: <Restore Device 0825D740>: operation 17 progress -12010-01-12 16:23:02.544 iTunes.exe5564:11f0: <Restore Device 0825D740>: operation 25 progress -12010-01-12 16:23:02.638 iTunes.exe5564:11f0: device returned AMR error 6 iphone 3g Windows 7
Sort of like a very high pitched sped-up sonar-type sound—exactly five beeps in quick succession—that fades off. Unlike any sound Ive heard or can access on the phone itself. It is not an email, not a text, there are no visible alerts of any kind on screen. Could it be a certain app? An inherent issue with iphone software? Its definitely an annoyance because it vibrates as well and will do it at any time of the day i.e. in the middle of the night. iphone OS 3.1.2

My Macbook and my wifes iphone are still connecting without any problems, so I know the network is good. Ive tried reentering the password; rebooting the iphone; and turning WiFi off, forgetting the network and building the connection anew, but no dice. Im posting this so people know problems and issues get resolved many times and that hardware or software defects happen with the best companies. I bought a refurb iphone 3g in December 2008 and my warranty expired in August 2009 (90 days is the minimum on refurbs, but I would guess most have longer warranties). I started having problems a few days before the OS 3.1 release, and the problems had been sporadic on my iphone since that time. I had attempted all the usual fixes, and I had come to the conclusion my phone was defective, going into infinite reboot/shutdown, but out of warranty since August of last year. The only way to keep it from shutting down was to turn off autolock and passcode lock. However, the battery would drain in 5 or 6 hours sitting idle.It finally got the to point I couldnt use any of great features of the phone, and although I didnt want to pay for a new refurb, I figured that was my only option. I made an appointment to take it in today to an Apple store. They looked at it, saw there was no physical damage, typed some stuff in their database, and gave me a new phone built in the 51st week of 2009.Thanks Apple! iphone 3g iphone OS 3.1.2
I have an iphone 3g and I have not been able to hook up to any wifi since I put the 3.1 software on it. Is my phone broken? What should I do iphone iphone OS 3.1 Wont work
First time posting on the forums but its gotten to the point where my phone isnt even usable and I either need some answers or a good excuse to smash it.So heres the story:I got my iphone 3g (black, 16GB) in September (I think), last year. The phone operated fine with only minor annoyances as software updates came down to fix issues, no big deal. About 10 months in, the phone starts acting up:If you want clarification on some problem, ask. I don’t want to type out 8 paragraphs if I don’t have to, should be pretty self-explanatory.Before OS 3:1.)Can’t slide to answer calls. After ringing stops phone behaves normally.2.)Doesn’t charge from wall or computer (happened randomly). Plug phone in, it says it’s charging but never charges.3.)Can’t end calls / call doesn’t end when other line is hung up (thanks for wasting my minutes).(these problems persist even with hard resets and full restores, including setting the phone up as a new phone rather than restoring from a backup)After OS 3 AND full restore:1.)Can’t slide to answer calls. After ringing stops phone behaves normally.2.)Can’t end calls / call doesn’t end when other line is hung up (thanks for wasting my minutes).(same as above, problems persist with hard resets and the like)At any rate, I was home one weekend and figured I’d take the phone to the Genius bar at the Mayfair Mall Apple Store. Sounded like a good plan until I get to the mall and find the store is being renovated (seriously Apple, you can’t just put that on your site that a store is closed for some reason? Give me a break). Home is 3 hours away for me and the closest Apple store is 2.5 hours away. Awesome.I deal with the problems for another month or so until my girlfriend and I take a trip to visit her friend in Minnesota. While there we go to the Mall of America so I decide to go to the Apple Store there (which is flappin’ giant, by the way). I explain my problems to the ‘Genius’ as well as informing him of the numerous restores/resets I’ve done both before and after the 3.0 update. He checks the phone for water damage and concludes that the headphone/dock ports are dusty which is causing the charging problem. I proceed to tell him I’ve cleaned them with compressed air before and the problems continued but he’s the ‘Genius’ so I let him do his thing and clean them again. Afterwards, he concludes (via the iphone diagnostic software they have) that since I haven’t done a restore in about a month that I should do another one as that will likely remedy the problem. Right. Was he even listening when I explained that the problems happened before and after the 3.0 update or that I had on numerous occasions attempted to remedy the problem with hard resets and restores? Nope. My girlfriend over hears this (she is aware of the problems I was having and is a Apple-certified hardware technician at our local Mac store) and comes over to reiterate (albeit slightly more forcefully than I had initially) that the problems occur regardless of restore state or software version. The ‘Genius’ finally decides he can replace the phone after explaining to him that we are not anywhere near an Apple store and that there’s little time left in the warranty. I get my new phone set up and ready to go. Whew.Everything is great. Phone works, no issues. Until ~2 months ago, new issues start cropping up.OS 3.1+ (happen on all versions):1.)Can’t sync, get “unable to complete. Phone was disconnected.” Error. (I checked around the forums and tried a few things but was unable to resolve the issue, including trying to remove the files that it kept ‘disconnecting’ on when it got to, no effect)2.)Installing an application (be it via App Store on the phone or via sync with my desktop) results in the phone being unable to boot if turned off. When attempting to turn it back on, Apple logo shows then phone goes off after a few seconds. Only way to resolve this is by booting the phone directly to restore mode and doing a full restore.3.)Earlier this week, my phone wouldn’t boot after having no apps (0, zero, zip, nada) on it after restoring it a few weeks back. Apple logo showed up then the spinning loading animation overlaid on the logo only to freeze. Attempted booting again and it came on (whew).4.)Today, my phone wouldn’t boot at all, again, no apps are on or have been on the phone since I last restored it. Tried turning it off/on a few times, no good. I ended up restoring the phone again. At first, my girlfriend was convinced that it was because I was synching with my desktop PC (obviously, blame it on the PC first), which I’ve been using since I got the phone and everything was fine until both phones randomly decided to crap out. I ended up restoring it on my MacBook Pro as a new phone just to see but the same thing happens with the apps causing it to not boot. After that we thought that it might be a single (or a few) apps that were just taking the phone down for some reason. I restored the phone with no apps and it seemed to be ok so I put 3 apps that I’ve had pretty much since they were available (and used to work without issue) back on to see. The plan was to add a few apps until the phone stopped working properly to narrow down the offending app. Just kidding! Just having those 3 apps (Beejive IM, Facebook, iDracula) causes the phone to not boot. I restore and try just Facebook. Same thing, phone doesn’t boot. Restore, try just Beejive. Same thing, phone won’t boot. By the way, the phone doesn’t boot even without me having LAUNCHED THE APPS AT ALL. Just by being on my phone it’s totally hosed. At this point I have no idea what to do. I want to like my iphone again but it’s terribly worthless when I have to restore it every other day and can’t use my ~$90 worth of apps (PS: even Apple’s own ‘Remote’ app brings the phone down). I really, really hate to say it but my old HTC Hermes (Windows Mobile 5/6) PDA phone was better than this (and WinMo is god-awful).Does anyone have any suggestions? My phone is out of warranty now and I don’t have money to buy another phone even if I wanted to.***Also, I treat my phone like a baby. It hasnt been dropped a single time, been near water, or operated outside of the safe operating temp guidlines.***Im willing to elaborate on any of the information I provided above, just let me know.Message was edited by: xxjudgmentxx MacBook Pro 15" (Late 2007) iphone OS 3.1.2
I got my shiny new 3g 8Gb Orange phone on the 17 December on an upgrade from my HTC. We now have four Orange network phones in the family. The annoying thing is When my wifes Nokia gives 2 bars, my daughters phones an HTC touch diamond and Sony Ericsson both give 3 bars. My shiny new iphone gives No Service. Is any one else experiencing poor signal reception on Orange or even O2 it may be an iphone problem and not just specific to one network. Maybe Orange can up the gain in the phone by software, I shall have to ask them Dell XPS 430
I get spotty service at my house and 50% of the time my text messages dont send. But thankfully the iphone doesnt alert me when my messages dont send. So usually I end up waiting 10 minutes for a reply and I check and my message hasnt sent. VERY ANNOYING(to me at least). Is there anyway I can get my phone to tell me if a message was sent or not sent? Or can someone sent this up to the Tech Guys at apple so they can include this in their next software update? Thanks HP Pavillion DV5000
Whether I get a GPS fix on my iphone 3g has been very hit and miss recently, increasingly more miss than hit. Even standing out in the open the phone only gives me network triangulation. In addition if I then travel 10 miles it still thinks I am at my starting location so it is not updating the triangulation. This lack of location update by triangulation suggests a software bug.Powering off the phone has no effect. The WiFi also seems to be failing. Whereas I could use it anywhere in my house, it keeps losing my home WiFi signal and even sitting 5m away I only get partial signal. I also can no longer see the numerous signals from my neighbours. Not sure if the failing of both systems is related. Do they both use the same antenna? Is this a hardware fault with the iphone slowly dying? Intel iMac, iMac G4, Powerbook G4, iphone 3g, Apple TV, 3g iPod, 2G Shuffle iphone OS 3.1.2
Does anyone know anything about the memory in an iphone? Mine is suppose to be a 16G. Over Christmas I purchased a few new apps and films from iTunes. So to make space I deleted all my old films. Also gained lots from Apples 12 days app so my memory was full again. After trying to transfer purchases and back up in iTunes, something happened but my purchasesdidnt transfer instead all the videos I had previously deleted from my phone were restored andI now have over 20G of stuff! How is this possible?! Are all iPhones 32 or 64G until they are given their software? This should be a great thing but now I still need to sync and when I do it will go back to being a 16G again. Has anyone else come across anything like this? Thanks Warne00 3g 16G iphone OS 3.1.2
When I tried installing the updated software for my iphone 3g last night something went wrong with my computer (or iTunes) and it did not install the software on my phone. Ive had this happen before and Apple told me to reinstall iTunes, but Im wondering if I reinstall iTunes will I lose my last iphone backup? iphone 3g

Hi,I have recieved a replacement iphone from an insurance company that will not operate on 3g even though I have down loaded the latest software, 3g is enabled in settings and I have checked my SIM card is a 3g card. The model number of the replacement phone is MB489X. Is this a 3g model? Any other thoughts out there? Thanks, Blundies
I bought my iphone off of a friend of mine and the phone had worked amazingly for 5 months then problems occurred non-stop. The phone is stock and not jailbroken or unlocked. My iphone would not connect to my own wifi connection and my friends iphone would. All my text messages have been received delayed from 2mins to 2 hours to even days. My service would go from full bars to Searching... to No Service. I have called AT&T and they gave me a new SIM card and that didnt fix it. I do not receive 90%of my calls as of now. The problem was temporarily gone on Jan. 1, 2010 but then returned Jan.2. I have restored my phone several times and lost much data. I have tried hard restores and soft restores and those only fix the issue for maybe 2 mins TOPS. I have restored it as a new iphone. I have reset the network settings literally everyday, as well as toggled 3g and airplane mode. When i put my sim card onto my LG Trax, the service is great and i get messages instantly. I have taken good care of the iphone and have not dropped it. My parents are going to the point of considering switching us (my whole family) to a more reliable network and phone because i have already missed several important calls due to the iphone. Also my SIM card is a 3g sim card, but when my SIM card is in, the 3g symbol does not appear even with 3g turned on. When my brothers SIM card is in the iphone the 3g symbol does appear. I have taken it to a few service stores and paid about $90 all together to downgrade the firmware and that didnt fix it. I have heard of several problems with the new 3.1.2. software similar to mine. I really want to stay with the iphone and AT&T but if this problem is not solved we are gone for good. I do not know if the iphone is still under warranty becuase my friend lost their reciept. So any help will be much appriciated. Windows xp iphone OS 3.1.2

Just moved from a Nokia E51 to iphone 3GS 32GB. My office uses Blue Phone Elite (BPE)(Mira software) on the macs to great effect. Texts (SMS) are typed on the Mac and sent bluetooth to the office cell phone which does the sending. Simple but highly effective. BUT BPE doesnt work with iphone! Symbian 1 - Apple nil. What are my options for the iphone? I also like to use this text function as I am a slow texter. MBP 2.8GHz 10.5.8 Mac OS X (10.5.8) 3GS 3.1.2
Last night I updated my iphone 3g with the latest software, and when the phone began to reboot, it just turned off, then came back on in recovery mode. The screen shows the iTunes logo with a USB lead pointing toward it, and this is as far as I can get. When I plug it in to iTunes, it says its in recovery mode and needs to be restored. I press restore, and the usual boxes pop up, then the download/restore process starts, but fails when it is about 10% complete on the phone screen, says an unknown error (14) occurred. Is there any way to delete the software update and revert back to 3.0??Thanks. iphone 3g iphone OS 3.0.1
I have just started to use my iphone recently. I am a heavy sms user and I find that the current SMS/ Message function in my iphone 3GS is very unfriendly and make me feel very frustrating..the following issues I have encountered and hope some good experts out there could provide some good advices...really at fix...1. Sending SMS to Multiple receipents. I have to add the receipent one by one from the contact book to the SMS screen. This process is tedious and time consuming especially if I need to send out to 100 receipient at one go.2. Lost message. I have to be very careful in typing the message, once I touch the edit button or press the menu button, the message that I am typing will be lost and cannot be recovered. It is unlike some smart phone where this message is stored under the Draft.3. Stored folder. There is no stored folder for SMS. Sometime while I am keying a long SMS and I need to handle the phone or to work on other things, I could not save the SMS to elsewhere for future working.4. Replying via Chinese Character. It is another challenge if I need to reply the receipient by Chinese Character. In fact I do not know how I could do it.5. Small Display Screen. The display for the SMS that I am typing is too small. I would need to scroll back to see what I have type...iphone is a state of art technology and it meant good for business function..however with such a build in SMS software, it is really disappointing. Is there any software available in the market which I could purchase, download, etc to bridge this gap. Really need someone to advise me on this SMS concern. Thanks. Dell Windows XP
My 3g phone has been working fine for about 10 months, but within the last months or so it has gone into slow motion, and I do mean SLOW motion.Examples1. Sending a picture, click on the Email Photo button, it takes about 15 seconds just to bring up the Email with image, then when I try to type in To: address it stays on the first letter I type for about 35 seconds (letter enlarges but just stays there) - this used to be instantaneous.2. Messages, press the message icon and it takes a good 10-15 seconds before I see a list of people who Ive messaged (this used to be 1-2 seconds).3. Press on the iPod icon and again another 10-20 seconds before I see my playlists. Again, this used to take 1-2 seconds. Now my iphone never used to be like this, it was pretty fast for the first 10 months of usage. I havent loaded any new apps (in fact Im only at 2GB mem usage out of 8GB) and its upto date with latest firmware and software. Doesnt seem to matter if I use wireless or 3g connection, nor if I have it plugged in or not.Im about ready to toss this phone out the window and go with something other than an iphone. Is there any diagnostics I can run on my iphone to try to figure out why its gone into slow motion mode??Ive seen these types of problems happen with SSD drives where the MLC NAND flash starts to get flakey with no TRIM support (especially MLC) causing performance to radically drop off -- this is exactly what it feels like in my iphone. Considering my 3g iphone uses Samsungs 65nm 8GB MLC NAND flash which has been known to exhibit this problem over time, thats my guess as to why my iphone has started to slow down.I know several friends who are also running into identical slow down problems and theyre in the same boat, toss the iphone and go with a phone that uses better quality (real longer life) MLC or SLC NAND.I know Apple arent going to admit to anything unless enough people complain, so I was wondering how many other folks have run into this mysterious slow down problem after 10 months of iphone usage?Rob. I have an iphone 3g 16GB with the latest software update. Will the amount of free memory effect the overall performance of the phone and apps in general? Since Ive had it Ive always had at least 1GB of free memory and never had any problems. I just recently put some new music on it and am down to about 60MB free space. Does the OS utilize spare flash memory? Will I notice a decrease in performance? iphone 3g iphone OS 3.1.2 Windows XP
Has anyone experienced this before? When I normally send a text it makes that ZOOOOP sound. For some reason that sound would go in and out, then for the last couple of weeks it just stop making the sound all together. Yes the volume is up, the silent switch on the side is on, I restored it, restarted it, etc. You name it I probably done this to get the sound to work on my iphone 3gs. I went over these with Apple Care and they sent me a phone the next day. I unboxed my new phone, get everything hooked up and to my dismay this phone is not making the ZOOOOP sound either when I send texts. My Wifes iphone 3gs works fine and makes all the correct sounds. Im beginning to think its a software issue, but I really dont know too much about computers to make that diagnosis. If anybody can help or just plain old give advise that will be greatly appreciated, and btw HAPPY NEW YEAR to all of you. Mac Pro Mac OS X (10.6.2)
Hi I am sure this has already been solved somewhere, BUT .... I have an iphone 3g running latest software, and a MBP running SL. Both work fine. I have paired the iphone with the MBP, and the MBP shows the iphone in the Bluetooth availability, the iphone shows the MBP . Problem is they cant /wont connect by bluetooth. Any suggestions? Are they even supposed to connect to each other? Thanks MacBookPro Mac OS X (10.6.2)
