I know there are many threads on restoring the iphone but i could not see anything which helped me resolve my problem. Against my better judgement last night i tried to update my iphone 3g to the new iphone software 4.0.2. Well i wish i hadnt. My iphone is now stuck in recovery mode. I go into itunes to restore it. The green bar on itunes gets to about 75-80% and then just gets stuck there!!!Ive gone through all the steps in the help sections and other forums but it just keeps getting stuck. I even left my phone overnight last night in case it was just taking a long time and it was at exactly the same point i left it!! Any ideas. Ive got a ton of contacts and stuff i cant really lose but dont know where to go from here. Thank you. iphone 3g
Hi,I have placed my request for the carrier unlock in. They say it takes up to 10 days and I will have to restore my phone in iTunes after that. Then I will get a message saying the phone is no longer locked to any carrier. How do I know when the update is ready for my phone? Do I get a message in iTunes or should I restore every day for the next 10 days? MacBook Pro 2.2GHz Mac OS X (10.5.4) iphone 3G
Ive had to restore my iphone 4 twice now from a backup, and each time Ive had to spend over an hour recreating folders and reorganizing my apps back into the folders the way I last had them. I guess this is a feature request for backups to retain folder placement and contents, please! The data structures needed seem to exist already and are used by iTunes to remember the apps layout there. Any other way of saving my apps folders from iphone 4? iphone 4 iOS 4 MacBook Pro / OS X 10.6.4
This is a phone which I dont know the history of. It was given to me today to see if I can get it going. So far, when attempting to restore it, I get Error 29. I believe OS4 was installed prior to this issue but Im not sure. Heres the details. I just got my iphone 3 days ago! (Saturday) I went over to my cousins house to add some songs. When I connected the USB cable to his computer and my iphone it went straight into recovery mode. I thought it was his computer so I went home to my computer and the same problem occurred! I searched everywhere to try to solve this issue. I even downloaded some stuff that supposily forces iDevices out of recovery mode but nothing worked. I also tried holding the 2 buttons and bam, nothing. Please, anyone with a solution, please help me.update Whenever I try to restore, I get an error message. It happens for firmware 4.0,4.01, and 4.0.2. (My iphone 4 came with firmware 4.0.2)Message was edited by: xxjose201xx Windows XP

OK, so a few days ago I finally got around to upping to iOS 4.02. The next day, I started getting an abhorrent number of dropped calls, fail to connects, no internet service, the works. Mostly while driving, making this more annoying (the little bzzzzzzzz of a dropped call in my earpiece, not so fun.I am, in fact, in possession of a clue (as well as a degree in Information Systems), so I start troubleshooting on my own. Jumping into an out of Airplane mode (force to look for network) results in a temporary fix - as in, about 3 seconds of connectivity. Resetting ALL network settings seems to result in about the same. After three or four cycles of this, the phone drops service again, but displays a message saying that it was unable to make or recieve calls, and that I needed to preform a restore.Which I did. And it worked. For thirty seconds, and then I got the same message. So I restored. Again. Reset network settings again, just to be safe.It just dropped a call on me to my mother. Im going to have a lot of fun hearing about how I hung up on her, except that I have... you guessed it, No Service. No restore message though.Im using a silicone case, the phone is sitting on my desk now, wasnt touching it, let alone the antenna when any of this happened, using my headset actually, my wifes got 5 bars of tower even using the death grip, and so does my old 3G (work pays for it, so I have 3 AT&T lines) and Im less than a mile away from a tower, and we usually get really good service here. I dont think its an AT&T problem b/c my other lines are fine.Im out of suggestions. Anyone else seeing anything like this? iphone 4 iOS 4 ?
Last night I set up my iphone 3G to upgrade to iOS4, when I wake up this morning it has the connect to iTunes screen. No problem I thought, can sort that out. But iTunes says it cannot fix it as it needs to be the latest version of iTunes, which I have, I even reinstalled it from the website haha.Edit: OK, managed to connect it using another user on my Mac, just need to work out how to restore the old info, as this user still doesnt like it :PMessage was edited by: steffanbno Macbook Pro Mac OS X (10.6.4) iphone 3G
Okay so my iphone is kind of messed up. I have a music problem ( in that in speeds it up, even though i changed headphones and it randomly pauses music) i have a slowness issue like most people, but to get frm the lock screen to messages it takes a matter of minutes, it takes 1 minute to get to the screen for me to enter my password and a minute or two to type it in and load then another minute to get on messages! im really annoyed. apple are suppose to be the best company out but with so many problems with their iphones i am really not believing this!whenever i try to restore my iphone 3G, i get the message the iphone softwae server could not be contacted. my network settings are FINE. as i am on the internet. what is going on!? it wouldnt work last night either. i want to get back to 3.0 without jailbreaking obviously.i hate apple at the moment ¬___¬ Mac & Pc iOS 4 I have iphone 3G, iPod Touch, Mac Desktop
Hi theretoday when I connected my ip4, iTunes asked me to download and install the latest iOS 4.0.2, after that it went into a recovery mode loop and I cant do muh more. I have so far tried to restore using 3 other pc´s, xp and Win7. Tried different USB cable, disable firewall/antivirus, but nothing helps. I am constantly getting an error 9, but I have seen error 2009 and 3194 as well (tried about 10 times so far).Dont know what else to tryThanks in advance for any feedback. iOS 4
I upgraded to an iphone 4 and was thinking about selling my 3G. For some reason I took out the sim card (security reason?). It sat around and I never sold it and I just had to restore my old phone. Now it wont activate because the sim is missing, and I cant find it.Im wondering if ATT has like a bogus sim card that I can get from them just so I can activate the old 3G, or if I go to the apple store they can at least get it functioning as an iPod touch. Thats all I want. Macbook Pro 2008 Mac OS X (10.6.4) iphone 4

Hello all,Ive been having a problem with my iphone 3G for a while now, where whenever I plug it in while iTunes is open, iTunes just crashes. Ive tried reinstalling iTunes completely (following these instructions http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1923) as well as restarting computer, updating all apple software, deleting iTunes preferences, re-installing the iTunes USB driver...Nothing seems to work! Before, if I was lucky, I was given the opportunity to restore my iphone to factory settings (set up a new iphone...the backups stopped working ages ago). Now, I cant even restore my iphone and I cant see the home screen or navigate iTunes when the iphone is connected. Please help! Any advice will be appreciated! Thanks, vrax iphone 3G iOS 4

Seems simple - to sync your phone, but I have had issues since purchase. After 3 hrs tech time and then time face to face in store, they gave me a new phone. It syncd right away, everything fine. Now having problem with the second phone.I did not sync the phone for a couple weeks, and went to sync it because my apps were not working (push the app on phone and nothing happens). When I tried to sync, I get errors again, some of which include:Internal device errorTiming outUnknown errorI have attempted to restore from back-up, and it errors out and wont let me do this. I have done the complete restore as well. Then when I attempt to sync, the errors are gone, but the sync does not occur. Itunes states it is syncing, and phone shows nothing. It never syncs. Also, anytime I connect the phone to computer itunes pops up with the set up your iphone page, which tells me it is never really recognizing the phone. Also note: I was told to take the time management off the USB hubs, as this might be creating a problem. This has not solved the problem.I am going back to the store today, but figured I would see what advice I could find here. HP dv6t 64 bit

Hi, so i have recently updated the software of my iphone 3G to 4.0.2, i hoped this would help the iphone 3G, but obviously not. The phone is going so slow, i have to wait about 2 minutes for my messages, iPod and other things to load up. It also takes a long time to load anything. And i have been experiencing problems with my music to. When i have the headphones in, it doubles the slowness of my iphone even when the music isnt playing which is really weird. Also, the music has started speeding up for about 90% of the song, so a 3 minute songs finishes in about 15 seconds as it has sped it up for no reason! It does it for every song to. Also, the music will randomly pause even when my phone is on lock and i am not pressing anything. It also does it when its not on lock, and it just goes from the pause sign to the play so i have to press play as it just stops.Does anybody have any fixes for these problems? I have tried to restore my software to 3.0.2 or whatever it was before 4.0.1, but i cant. There isnt a restore date from when i had it. Even a few days after i downloaded 4.0.1 i tried to restore it but it wouldnt let me. I went into the apple store in Newcastle and they told me to restore it but i had and they said there was nothing they could do. I only bought my iphone in January and for a £400 phone this is a real dissapointment! Mac & Pc iOS 4 I have iphone 3G, Mac Desktop, iPod nano 3rd gen, iPod mini, iPod nano 2nd gen.

I have home network with Airport Extreme. My iphone 4 will freeze data transfer very frequently. It shows connected, but no data transfer. I replaced my screen because it was cracked. Phone still functioned fully. I updated to 4.02 or latest update with success so that I could restore to that point later. My problem is that I have success in getting the connect to itunes recovery screen and the computer has offered to restore and then begins its process. According to the Phone updater log, the restore succeeded. However as Itunes restores (or during the process), the phone returns to the apple logo screen and itunes no longer sees it. The phone will then endlessly loop to try and reboot every 5 mins or so with the apple logo until the battery goes dead. Two attempts thus far.I have a valid contract with AT&T and the phone is not jailbroken. Although yes, I replaced the screen myself. (A cost of $20 shipped to my house over $200+ with apple) The phone is a little more than 2 years old.The frustration is it seems that everything should be working but cant get past apple log screen. I believe since i took the phone to an itunes store to inquire about glass replacement, the tech would had noted the cracked screen, leading anyone to believe the possibility of the phone screen being replaced otherwise, in otherwords, I dont expect Apple to help at all despite the fact of having 2 phones now, but they could surprise me. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. iphone 3g 8GB iOS 4

My question has probably been asked before but after searching the forum for a few days, I am unable to get a clear picture so I hope someone can help me.I just bought an iphone 4 and would like to know what is the correct way to migrate my iphone 3g backup onto it.I completely understand the part where i need to do a backup of the old one and then restore from this backup onto the new phone. My concern though is I have not upgraded my iphone 3g OS to iOS4, it is still running on 3.1.2. And after reading the stories of how other iphone 3g users have experienced having really slow phones after the upgrade, I am hesitant to do so.So finally here are my questions: 1. Can I restore my iphone 3g OS 3.1.2 backup directly onto my iphone 4? 2. Or is it essential to upgrade my iphone 3g to iOS4.01 first to have a compatible backup to restore from? I have read somewhere that a user had to wait 72 hours when they tried it(?).3. And does anyone know when iOS4.1 or iOS4.02 with hopefully the fix for the 3g laggy issue is coming out? Please help! Thanks! =D iphone 3G iphone OS 3.1.2
I was trying to update my cousins iPod Touch, so I clicked restore since I was on a different computer. First, for a while, it just said Preparing iPod for restore..., and then it said that there was an error. Now my cousins iPod only shows the connect to iTunes screen. If I plug it in again, it says that I have to restore it. If I do, it will only do the same thing. I think the problem was that I was updating to iOS 4 from os 2. So, what can I do? Im trying to restore iphone3G to 4.0.1 from last 2 days but every time i got errors related to USB. errors like 2003,2005,2009,14 etc. believe me i tried almost every form. every time i plug my Iphone3G to PC it says This device can perform faster please plug this in hi-speed USB 2.0 port. i tried all my USB ports but nops. and yes i have Enhanced USB 2.0 port according to my XP hardware device manager.some times ITunes got my iphone and start restoring iphone with IOS4.0.1 but got error(described above) in very initial phase of of restoring.here are the solutions i already tried1) i change iphone data cable (4 cables exact )2) try to restore iphone on 3 different computers XP SP2 all.3) Already read all try Apple USB troubleshooting (try different USB ports, security software bla bla bla)4) Reinstall iTunes several times5) try many times in DFU + Recovery mode.6) i updated my Bios and motherboard driver too.here is the conclusion of problem i thought can be. every time i plug iphone it is associated with normal USB1.0 i think if it some how associated with USB2.0 then my problem solved but i tried all USB ports.cmon pros tell me some thing. and last thing i can not visit iphone store because Im in Pakistan for next 2 months where no Apple support is available. iphone 3G iOS 4
I have an iphone 3G and I dont really know what happened. one day it just had a white screen and is not recognised by my computer. however I do get the beep from the computer to tell me that it has connected. what I have tried:1. i was going to restore it but its not recognized so cant do that2. tried to reset it with home and power buttons. all it does is give me the apple screen and then back to the white screen and off.3. tried a hard reset where i hold the home, power and up volume buttons. i get the same result as a normal reset.4. I have been told that the white screen is caused by internal hardware becoming disconnected. my warranty is up so i opened my iphone and checked and everything is connected. hp Windows 7 iphone 3g 16g

Is their a technical reason for iphone OS upgrades only being completed via iTunes. Why can they not let it occur over air, via app store or similar. I accept its a large file and on 3G it may not be a good idea for networks, but on WiFi it could work.If its due to need for iphone back up, most people sync regularly and have back up. You could offer a warning/disclaimer to say if not done via iTunes you may risk needing to restore phone using an older back up etc?It could also force upgrade or remind less savvy users of new upgrade by push etc?Is it for iphone handset verifcation/checks - if so, can it not be verifed via handset communication via push/WiFi link or app store etc?Any thoughts, just curious..PS - any news on 4.1 release?? Hi,since a few days (but before the 4.01 upgrade) I am having a strange issue with the compass.Every time I start an app using the compass it prompts me to calibrate it using the 8 pattern. This is no problem for me, after doing the descrobed figure, the compass is calibrated and works fine. Now the problem:I quit the compass app and open it again at exactly the same spot where I was standing and the calibration message appears again. This happens every single time i open a compass app, regardless of where I am. Even when hiking in the mountains (where it is very annoying to recalibrate the compass every time i switch apps). It seems to be a sofware issue with the calibration data which does not get saved permanently after calibration.I found out that the compass works again normally and keeps the calibration after i do a complete reset of the iphone including deleting all data (only deleting the settings did not work). The problem is that after I restore my iphone from the iTunes Backup, the calibration issue arises again. So now I have the choice of keeping all my application-data and settings or having a functioning compass. This is very annoying for me. Any ideas? Is there a way to delete the compass related configuration data in the iTunes backup? Thanks in advance iphone 4 32GB black iOS 4
Well hopefully you are not reading this becuase like me your were stupid enough to cave in to the freaking nags on I-Tunes and updated your I-Phone software to 4.0.2. Now your phone is no better than a coffee can and a string.Anyway I know it has been posted by other people but I followed the advice at this link on re-booting my I-Phone after I did a restore on I-Tunes first. Low and behold my phone is somewhat faster... still has the updated 4.0.2 OS but it is noticeably better. http://www.cultofmac.com/speed-up-iphone-3g-ios4-with-a-hard-reset/48070Good Luck!!!<Edited by Host> HP the best Windows XP Pro

I got my iphone 4 today & activated it. I used my back up to restore my stuff. Well I went online to try to get the iOS 4 update, but it says I have the latest version 4. I dont have the book thing that I keep seeing. I dont even see anything about facetime or nothing. There is no difference on my icons except I can put them into folders. My flash is to much & turns the picture blue. I dont even know what Im doing wrong or what to do. Do the 4s come with the update everyone is getting? If so where can I find facetime, iPhoto, & the book app. I keep hearing about? Im so upset right now. Thanks for listening and for any help you can offer me.

After being a happy Apple consumer for several years, Ive been hit hard in the last 3 months with very disappointing problems. 1) A hard drive death left me with a very very painful, 12 hour restore process using Time machine, so for me, Time Machine is dead, Its CCC all the way from now on. (full disk restore in 2hrs using CCC)2) After the horrible slowness with iphone 3G iOS4 and no (supported) way to revert back, I consider my iphone nearly useless. Id be more the happy to buy an iphone 4 except that:3) Issues with AT&T leave me wanting to not give them a single more $ then I absolutely have to. Granted this is not an Apple issue, except for Appless inability or unwillingness to support a different carrier.Consequently, my next phone and possibly my next computer will not be an Apple. In general, in the past, theyve always done better at these sorts of things than the competition, but apparently not any more...Bye bye... 3G iOS 4
I installed the new 4.02 update today and there was an error message at the end of the install. My phone was wiped and now I cannot restore at all. I have tried numerous times to restore the phone and it keeps bringing me back to the same place: Picture of the ITUNES and White cable. It tells me to restore, and I go through the same thing again and again. Nothing works. All this from a simple update. Anyone have a solution? BTW, I tried restoring on a different computer, same resultThanks iphone 3G iOS 4 Windows 7
Yep. It bricked my iphone 4, put it into restore mode, and its now installing 4.0.1 from scratch again. Hoping it did a good backup before it tried to update...Recommend you update with caution. iphone 4 iOS 4

We all have rebooted the phone and done the restore but no luck.Is it a know issue and if its not then can you advice on how to rectify this. iphone 4 iOS 4
Hi guys, I just upgraded my iphone 3G from iOS 4 to iOS 4.02, but after the upgrade, I cant phone anymore because the telephone doesnt connect to my phone carrier anymore.Everything else seems to work fine, but I got a continuous searching... message at the top left of the screen. Furthermore, when I open settings, I cant see phone settings anymore. Is this a known issue? Has anyone advices on how to fix it? Do you think a restore could fix the problem? Thanks a lot. Having a bit of trouble here, my iphone has been acting up, it would light up on its own without anyone touching it, then suddenly the screen just went really dark, but it could still used just in the right lighting, after a while of playing with the brightness (which was already set for high, and still it would be dark/dimmed) feature on the settings, I got it to work again, so I decided to restore it. It worked fine for a while, then it got dimmed again, so I decided to restore it again to its original factory settings, but this time I would not use any backups, when the system began restoring, the connect to itunes screen showed up, and a little window at the right bottom of the screen showed up with the following message: one the usb devices attached to this computer has malfunctioned and windows does not recognize it and so the iphone was kicked out itunes and everytime I connect it again, it shows up the same message! Ive searched the net and found some tips: uninstall and reinstall itunes. or turn off computer and unplug and then turn it on and try again. or try to restore it on another computer (it worked at first it began downloading the iOS 4 but then the same message popped up and it kicked off the iphone from itunes). Sadly NOTHING worked! and now my iphone is stuck in the connect to itunes screen and I am without a phone! If anyone could enlighten me, it would be much appreciated! Thanks! iPhone3G iOS 4
I did a restore phone as new ... and I started from scratch.. I think the secret is to keep your phone as empty as you can (even though thats RIDICULOUS to have to do that) but I deleted a lot of my music and the phone runs pretty fast. Not as fast as it did before the update but its SO much faster than it was. So, if you are desperate for a fast phone and can loose some of your stuff (music, etc).. I recommend it .
