Just bought a 3g tonight...I intended to use it completely with the charge that it came with out of the box and then charge it fully and deplete it fully. Without thinking, though, I ended up plugging it into my macbook to sync. So did I mess up the right way to do the initial charge? Thank you. Home button doesnt work iphone

When I press on the Home button, nothing happens. When I press on it a second time, it takes me to Favorites as if I had done a double-click on the Home button.The phone still can send and receive calls, and can sync with my computer. I just cant get to my home screen.The phone also doesnt power down. Holding the power button does nothing until I release it, after which it goes into a sleep mode.Trying to reset the phone doesnt work. iphone takes nearly an hour to back up and sync

Can anyone shed some light on this......both my boyfriend and I have iphones and we have a macbook. The main user account is mine and then I created a user account for my boyf so that he can sync his iphone independent of mine, with his own itunes etc. My iphone backs up and syncs really really quickly but when we try to sync his phone on his user account it takes at least 3/4 of an hour and sometimes an hour +.Does anyone know why this might be? Sorry that was a little vague due to space limitations.. Basically, I got a replacement phone, and the guy at the genius bar said that my data would be restored to it when I sync it. Im a little concerned because sync-ing just got the black data off my phone when I had installed enterprise support months ago. so I thought Id ask if I should be doing anything special for the first sync to get as much info back in the phone as possible. side question: I noticed I have none of my address book despite using my old sim card. Some small problems with my new 3g iphone

Having some small problems with my new iphone, nothing major, just annoying.1. When I plug my iphone in to charge/sync my Adobe photoshop keeps trying to download the photos on my iphone, which causes an error message from Adobe that it cant download and it stops all syncing and removes my iphone from iTunes. I have to unplug and reinsert USB cable and sometimes it works ok and sometimes I have to reinsert again. Also when charging, it will disconnect, reconnect and the samething all over again, photoshop trying to get photos and an error message.2. Cant send e-mails via 3g? Please help My itunes just stops during sync but says sync In Progress iphone

Ok Ive tried syncing my iphone to itunes and it just says sync in Progress. It never stops. Now it makes it through the Backing up iphone portion but as soon as it gets to syncing contacts, it just sits there saying its Syncing contacts with iphone. Now Im not sure why its doing this, this just happened out of nowhere, so Ive even restored the phone twice, once as a new phone and then again with the option it left from restoring it the first time. It syncs the music, apps, and videos when I uncheck everything in the Info tab, such as contacts, calendar, etc. So its something to do with everything in the Info tab. Synching Irritations. iphone 3g

Two really annoying things that continue to drive me up the wall:1) Every time I want to transfer pictures onto my phone or maybe just even one new song, why does iTunes force me to do a complete backup of my phone? What would take 10 seconds ends up taking 20 minutes for absolutely no reason.2) Why when I opt NOT to sync ALL of my apps, does it tell me it will REMOVE Them from my phone completely? No! Why would I want them DELETED? Since when does not copying over something that is ALREADY ON THE PHONE mean that I want them deleted completely from the phone? It doesnt make any sense. None. If I dont have them all checked, it will delete the one not checked.I tried to NOT sync my apps so that I could speed up the process of just syncing my photos. So it tells me its going to delete all my apps if I do that. iTunes is such a miserable failure in the world of Apple/Mac which dominates the logic/useability world in every other arena. It continues to confound me the absolute poor structure, logic, and programming of their flagship software app.I mean seriously, how hard is it for this application to know that its already got all my apps both in itunes and on the phone? Every time I connect it, it starts copying over my apps all over again. Why? Is this 1983 when it cant tell if the app has been updated and needs synching? If someone can give me some input on these items I would appreciate it. VAIO

Hello. Ive recently had some hard drive issues on my laptop, which forced me to reformat my hard drive. My iphone now thinks I am using a different computer, which I guess means I need to resync and delete everything on it. What a pain...I have some pretty straight-forward questions, and Ive searched the forums looking for answers but havent found any yet, so excuse me if these are asked 1,000 times a day:Will backing up my iphone really do me any good, in the long run? I guess Im confused about what actually is preserved by doing this.What exactly is lost during a new sync? Will I lose all of my contacts, text messages, and pictures? Or will it just be any music and pictures Ive synced via iTunes? I want to know if I need to type out the numbers and contact info of everything.What about all of my apps? iphone stuck when first syncing

i recently purchased an iphone 3g 8gb. loved it and everything worked flawlessly with it. i released that the 8gb wasnt enough so i went out and exchanged it for a 16gb phone instead. so i came home to sync it with my itunes and its stuck in the sycing stage. its stuck on syncing contacts. i have restored it and tried to uncheck the options to sych with and no matter what it gets stuck syncing anything. can anyone help me out with this. id like to be able to use my new iphone instead of watching it sycn. it is using software 2.2 please help! imac 24" Mac OS X (10.5.5)

iphone 3g wont backup.

Ive had this problem for awhile. When I plug my iphone in and iTunes opens it shows it backing up. The status bar grows real slowly and then basically stops at a little less then half way. Why is this? I already deleted the current backup, but I am still having this issue when I try to sync. I also restarted my phone but still no luck.I always end up clicking the x next to where it says backing up since it never backsup.Any ideas? MacBook Pro Mac OS X (10.5.5)

iphone top sleepwake button not working Apple Logo screen at startup

I have the original iphone. I have two problems, both just happened tonight at the same time. For seemingly no reason just my iphone external top sleep/wake button is not working. I tried powering the phone off and back on. I tried resetting my iphone, and restoring it. I made sure my iphone software is up to date. None of these remedies have fixed the button. The button doesnt look broken, it pushes in and out, it just doesnt work anymore. Second problem is, after I power my iphone off and then back on, the Apple logo screen will continue to flash on and off indefinitely. The only way to get my home screen to appear is to connect my iphone to my computer. Then it wants to sync. After syncing it then asks if I want to power off or cancel. Huh, why does is it doing that? To turn my iphone off I am pressing my Home button down until it shuts off, since I cant power off with the top black button. Is that the reason my phone is having the second problem, because I am powering off with the Home button? Could it be my second problem is not a problem?My iphone 1 year warranty is over. I cant call Apple Care, there is no apple store near me. I need a solution I can do at home myself. Please help. Even if you think the answer is obvious please suggest it to me. Before tonight nothing was wrong with my iphone. It all started after I let my 6 and 7 year old nephews play with Google Maps on my phone for like 10 minutes - supervised. iphone Restore Help Please

I had to do a restore from backup on my iphone today because an app just totally messed up the phone. I restored from back up successfully i think all my info was back on the phone. The only problem is that now, since this is the first time that this has ever happened to me, when i try to sync it wont do anything. For example, i added new music to itunes, my settings are to sync automatically, but it wont do it, i manually have to take the song file and drag it to iphone icon on left hand side of itunes when the phone is connected for it to sync the song to the phone. I also now have to do this with ringtones that i make, and videos. When i go to the music section while iphone is connected and it says automatically sync selected songs, it did give me a message like if you check this, all your videos and songs will be deleteed. iphone 3g doesnt sync calendars and contacts via mobileme

Hi.Since the initial setup, my new iphone 3g doesnt sync up with MobileMe. After some trouble in the beginning MM works fine now between my Powerbook and my iMac but although my MM-settings on the iphone are correct and set to sync calendars and contacts, it simply doesnt. I have tried everything on the iphone: Push (nothing happens).Disconnecting push, using manual or automatic (15 min, 30 min, 1 hour). Deleting my MobileMe account on the phone, thus erasing all contacts and calendars, then retyping everything correctly (and getting no message to suggest otherwise).ITunes too tells me, that calendars and contacts are synced through MM and I cant sync iCal and Contacts using the cable either.Also, when I open System/MobileMe/Synchronize/Advanced on either of my computers to see the list of devices connected to my MobileMe, it only shows my computers on that list - not the iphone!Can anyone help me with this or do I just have to wait for Apple to realize that MM doesnt work on iphone 3 (2.2) - which kind of defeats the whole purpose of getting it in the first place?Thanks, 15" Powerbook G4 1.5GHz / 21" iMac 2.16GHz / iphone 3g 2.2. I bought a new laptop and would like to sync my iphone with iTunes on the laptop. I previously synced with my desktop. I understand that you cant sync the iphone on two computers. I believe that I read somewhere here that if I sync my phone with the new laptop, I will loose my apps on the phone. If that happens, can I download my apps without having to pay for them again? Nothing happens when iphone plugged in

Nothing happens when my 2G iphone is plugged in, either to the charger or the USB connection on my Mac Pro. Ive changed wires,; same problem. Ive tested other devices in the USB ports; they work. When I plug the iphone into the USB connection, nothing happens, nothing. It doesnt turn on, sync, turn off if on, no noise, nothing. The same symptoms when I plug the iphone into the charger that uses a separate wire plugged into the charger in a different location. Ive noticed this getting worse till now when absolutely nothing happens when plugged in. Previously, repeatedly plugging and unplugging resulted in both a charging and sync connection, depending on where plugged. Is this a phone hardware issue or am I doing something wrong? My iphone not being recognized under My Computer

When I first got my iphone, I had a Dell. So I synced my phone to that computer. I just got a new iMac, and have switched everything over. My iPod shows up under My Computer, but my iphone doesnt. And I first synced my iPod to the Dell. Ive been able to sync my phone and my iPod in iTunes and transfer pictures from my phone to my computer with relative ease. Ive restarted and reset my phone, but it still does not show up under My Computer. Do I need to contact Apple Support or is there something else I can do? The Help file for iTunes on Syncing media with iphone has the following entry: Click the tabs (Music, Photos, and so on) and select the items you want to sync.To sync only certain items, click Summary, select “sync only checked songs and video” checkbox, and then click the other tabs and select the items you want to sync. I am confused about this because the “sync only checked songs and video” checkbox seems redundant in the following sense. Even if this checkbox is NOT selected, iTunes allows me to select the items I want to sync under each tab.If the “sync only checked songs and video” checkbox is NOT selected, then under the Music tab, for example, I would rather expect NOT to be able to select particular items to sync.Can anyone explain this? Photo Problem iphone 3g

hi,I havent had my iphone long (since chirstmas) so when i connected my iphone today and allowed it to auto sync a box popped up to say that i can sync my iphone taken photos with my laptop. I wasnt expecting this as so didnt pay a huge amount of attention to what i was doing, to the best of my memory, i allowed it to continue using the scan for photos option or something similar, which i assumed was an Apple app. as i hadnt seen it, and checked the box to always use this option and to not asked me again, i then click next.At this point my laptop and iphone went into a rhythmic beeping boobing contest before Itune became None Responsive and i had to shut it down using task manager.I tried again and this time i got a message saying ...scan unsuccessful...check device is connected properly before the contest kicked off again and i had to repeat the process. Now i only get musical notes when i connect the 2. Itunes works my iphone 3g works but they wont sync. This is the most reccent error message i get, unfortunately i wasnt clever enough to get pics of other messages becuase it happend so fast. syncing contacts with outlook 2007 iphone

Why does syncing contacts with outlook 2007 still not work correctly? I stopped syncing contacts a while ago because when I did my contacts in outlook always got messed up. So now since Im sick of the poor performance on my iphone I decide to finally do a restore. So in the kb it says to do a sync before you do the restore to make sure everything is synced up and you get a good backup, so I do that, and decide to sync the contacts to make sure any contacts I have on the iphone get transferred over to outlook.When I did the sync of contacts any contacts that were not in outlook, but were on the iphone are now gone. If the contact was not in outlook, but was on the iphone it got deleted from the iphone instead of transferred over to outlook. Itunes gave me the warning about more than 5% changing, but the warning didnt have anything under delete, so why did contacts on the iphone that werent in outlook get deleted? I lost alot of contacts. Also it modified some of my outlook entries and removed numbers from people who had multiple numbers even though those multiple numbers existed in both outlook and on the phone, but the sync decided to randomly remove some of the multiple numbers from both places. So now my contacts are completely screwed up. (what a piece of work this thing is)Is there any way to get them back to how they were? Does the iphone backup hold my contact info? Ive done a search and could not for the life of me find anything that would help me.. How many of you guys turn you phone off at night. I do so Im not bothered by anybody.. Anyway I turned my 3g on in the morning when I get up and this happened twice this week, when it turned on it said i had to sync it with itunes because the phone was locked.. What gives.. How to re-install my iphone settings

I just had to restore my computer to its original state which wiped my hard drive. I have everything backed up because I use an online backup service called Carbonite. I am now ready to restore my itunes library and I found information on how to recreate the itunes library. However, I cannot find any instructions on how to recover my iphone stuff. Do I just reinstall the phone and then sync with itunes? Will my itunes library contain all of the settings and programs I downloaded for my iphone? I dont understand the process and would appreciate it if someone could help me or direct me to the right place for information. Why are Safari and iPod applications so linked iphone

Does anyone know why the iphone applications, Safari and iPod, are so linked?Ever since the very original 1.0 iphone, crashes in Safari have wreaked havoc with the iPods database that lets it keep track of where you are in a song and what has been played when. Even in the newest version of the iphone software and on an iphone 3g, this is a problem.Yes, things have gotten somewhat better. Safari crashes less often than it used to (although still quite often enough). If Safari crashes while you are listening to a song, it will probably keep its place. However, if you dont have something playing in the iPod application, and Safari crashes, it is likely that the iPod will forget where you were if you stopped in the middle of a song in the middle of a playlist. It also forgets which podcasts were listened to already, and it loses track of last-played and playcount information when it is next synced.Ive been with the iphone since the beginning, and upgraded to a 3g as soon as I could. I sync it pretty regularly. Ive been through two original iPhones (bad audio jack on one after several months) and two 3Gs (locked up in the connect to iTunes screen, and even an Apple Genius couldnt get it to exit that mode). Also, Ive used a few Macs over all this time (one at a time) to run iTunes and sync. So I know this happens on multiple iPhones, multiple computers, and multiple copies and versions of iTunes.Its so frustrating that I cant use the iPhones iPod feature as it is intended. I find myself often bringing a nano along just because I know it will properly track my activities and hold my place. Thats hardly what was intended.Is it really that hard for Apple to protect the song information and separate it from Safari crashes? How does Safari crash in a way that it corrupts the song activity information? I dont see any other databses (such as mail, contacts, notes, or the files affiliated with other applications) being wrecked by Safari crashes.I can deal with the Safari crashes. Theyre a pain, but you kind of get used to them. (Even though, 18 months from introduction, its pretty amazing they are still so frequent.) I want copy and paste badly on the iphone. But I want an iPod that works even more. the Back Up process of sync is taking 5+ hours to do. it usually gets 1/2 way and than the rest takes hours on hours. nothing really changed, maybe a couple of new pictures taken. this happens all the time. First of all Ill apologize, as Ive only found one post on this subject, and it wasnt all encompassing.Im going to by buying an iphone, to replace my current iTouch. Is litterly all I have to do is come home with my iphone, and plug it into my mac, and then sync all my libraries ? This is to include photos, apps, music, mail and calendar. I have an iphone and I have 2 Mac computers - a desktop and a laptop. Im wondering if anyone knows how I can sync all three - merging is easy enough for calenders and what not. But Im more concerned with applications - so far I have everything on my desktop machine - but when I downloaded some Apps on my laptop - I cant sync them to my phone without losing the Apps from the other machine. New iphone Wont Charge

Plugged my charger into the computer to sync something. It normally brings up iTunes when I connect them. iTunes didnt pop up like usual. Put the charger in a wall socket and connected the phone and the green charger prompt does not come on the screen. What am I doing wrong? I have made sure everything is in the correct sockets. I have not dropped the phone, never use it near water... 3 day old phone and it is already malfunctioning. Dell Inspiron 1526 Windows XP
