Can the 4s be put into a " mass storage / file transfer " mode? My garmin says it needs to be in this mode to update maps

Hi, I have a hand me down iPhone 3G and it is currently being used as an iPod Touch - no voice or data plan but has the original SIM card in it. I have purchased full GPS mapping applications that include all the maps (2 different products with 1 GB and 2 GB worth of map data). The GPS in the iPhone does not seem to work. In the CoPilot Live application I receive the message Determining Current Location. If I click on that message it brings me to a GPS Status screen indicating the GPS signal detected, determining position. My other GPS application (NDrive) - does something similar. I understand that the iPhone uses assisted GPS but when the maps are already stored on the iPhone on these GPS applications - is there a way to just make the basic GPS work without having a data plan?garmin and other GPS companies use the basic GPS free satellites. Is there something blocking the basic GPS functionality working? Thanks MacBook Pro 2.33 ghz iOS 4 Logic 9, Final Cut Studio 3, Airport Extreme, Airport Express
I ma having problems pairing my iphone 3g with my garmin Sat Nav. When paired, only the first 7 contacts show. It works fine with other iphones, though they were 3Gs phones. garmin suggested restoring my phone which I did, from a backup. The problem has not been solved. Should I restore as a new phone? ibook G4 macbook iphone 3G 3 ipods Mac OS X (10.5.7)
I have just purchased a garmin 1390T SatNav. It pairs with the iphone ok to use as handsfree but only the first seven of my contacts show in the address book on the satnav. Does anyone know a way round this? Everything works fine with my wifes Samsung. ibook G4 macbook iphone 3G 3 ipods Mac OS X (10.5.7)
Has anyone had any experience with the phone call sound quality of an iPhone over a GPS unit bluetooth connection? Especially a garmin unit.I have owned several garmin GPS units but I am about to purchase my first Bluetooth unit.I was wondering if the sound quality of a GPS/Bluetooth connection with an iPhone is OK. macbook pro Mac OS X (10.6.2)
Very disappointed to learn after buying a garmin 1390T that all garmin bluetooths are incompatible with 3G and 3GS. My daughter has the same garmin 1390T but because she hasnt updated to latest version 3.1 software, hers works fine. I have updated an mine doesnt. Evidently this last version is what did it. garmin is changing their website soon to reflect that the only iphone they guarantee is compatible is the first generation iphone. Im sure this has something to do with the fact theyve put out their Nuviphone to compete with iphone. What a shame that you spend 350 bucks on something that clearly says on its website is compatible with iphone but clearly is not. It causes the garmin to frequently reboot itself and when I do make a call the person on the other end can barely hearing. So if anyone else is considering purchasing a garmin gps with bluetooth, make sure you havent updated your iphone to latest software.Trisha pc Windows XP
I just bought a garmin nüvi 775T, updated the firmware through the garmin website to the latest version and tried to pair it with my iPhone 3G (Version 3.1) via Bluetooh for handsfree communication. Pairing seems to go fine despite the following issues:Handsfree audio not working at all (i.e. communication only possible in the usual way by holding the iphone to your head and using the iPhone 3G speaker & mic instead of the garmin nüvi 775T ones instead)garmin nüvi 775T shows up without any name on my iPhone 3G list of paired Bluetooth devices. The garmin nüvi 775T does, however, sync contacts with the iPhone 3G and can control the making and receiving of calls, though i still need to actually pick up the iPhone if i want to be able to hear or talk to the person at the other end.Has anyone else encountered this handsfree problem and/or have any solutions for it ?I chose this specific GPS model in part for its handsfree possibilities and am very disappointed that it does not seem to be working for the moment.
Since upgrading from 3.0 to 3.1 i have had the problem with bluetooth. Both devices connect (thats what they say) but can not communicate with each other.before that they worked PERFECT. i hope garmi has a solution. I have 3 othjer apps on my iphone that do not work correctly since the 3.1 upgrade. I dont really want to go back to 3.0 and not ever be able to update my iphone until i get a new garmin !!!!!
Well as many of you i have preordered the new iphone. Would you guys recommend running with it? On some of my runs (when colder weather hits) i have actually taken my current running mp3 player (zune) and also taken my old phone just in case of an emergency. It would be nice to only have one thing to run with. I also seen an app on the app store that just my replace my garmin 305. Didnt i hear something about sweat being a problem with running with this thing? Im not worried about my earbuds (i got ones for running) but im concerned about my iphone. What do you guys think?thanks,Ncage Other OS Windows 7
Soon after pairing the GPS (nuvi 760) with my iPhone (3GS), the Bluetooth icon disappears from the GPS screen and appears as "Disconnected" on the phone a few seconds later. I tried initiating the pairing process from both the GPS (recommended by garmin) as well as from the iPhone, but that doesn't seem to (and shouldn't) make a difference. When trying to disable/enable BT on the GPS after that, it just hangs on the "Enabling Bluetooth" screen.I used to have another Nuvi 760, which had problems with its internal speaker and eventually got exchanged for the unit I have now. My old unit had the BT firmware version 2.40 whereas this one came with the latest version (3.40). I'm suspecting the new firmware is what's causing the problem -- another reason I never upgrade my firmware unless I need to.I've spent over an hour with garmin tech support only to find out (after several different tries) that there is no way to backdate a firmware (at least, not by the user) once it's been applied. In order words, I'm stuck. Not satisfied with the outcome, I've requested garmin for another exchange (who knows? maybe this unit has a bad B/T chip or something!). I left them a note asking for a unit with BT firmware 2.40, but don't know if they'll do anything about it. Let me wait and see... I should have my unit back some time this week.By the way, the same problem happens when pairing the Nuvi with my wife's phone (a Samsung SGH-a237).Any thoughts?- Frank
Since upgrading to 3.0, my 3G will no longer hook up with my garmin Nuvi via bluetooth. While Im looking for a solution, has anyone else run into this problem?Traj iMac 17 1Ghz, MBP 1.83Ghz 1Gb, Intel Duo Core Mini 1.66Ghz 1Gb, 20" iMac 2.4Ghz Mac OS X (10.5.7) Using Mini for Media Center. iPhone 3G
Can I send music from my 3g Iphone to my garmin Nuvi 660s fm transmitter, then out to the car speakers?I spoke to someone at the Apple store and he said it could be done. I tried it: the phone and Nuvi paired and I could use the phone from the Nuvi. I opened the Ipod, selected a song but the music came out of the phone, not the car speakers.I checked all settings but didnt find anything there.I would prefer using the Nuvis fm transmitter instead of a standalone fm transmitter Imac Mac OS X (10.5.6)
Im a serious amateur cyclist. I have an original iPhone and always have it on me while riding. I wasnt planning on upgrading to an iPhone 3G, preferring to wait another year, maybe catch the next model. But Id like to update my garmin GPS for a more modern unit, and I need to know if the iPhone 3G GPS + some sort of App Store app would suffice for route tracking, distance and time tracking, etc. Or is a combination of an iPhone app and the iPhone 3G GPS better suited for more casual GPS users -- and Id be better off with a dedicated runner/cyclist GPS device? MacBook
I just updated to an iPhone 3G from the original iPhone. I never had any trouble connecting to my Prius Bluetooth or my garmin GPS Bluetooth. Now with the 3G iPhone I cannot connect to either. Anyone else have this problem and perhaps a solution? Acer Aspire laptop Windows Vista
so i am sitting here lookin at my bill shooting the breeze with a few associates and was curious how others felt. I bought the iphone 4 gig when it debuted coming from a blackberry and a sony phone (yes 2 phones). I liked the phone and saw great progression so i decided on a 8 gig one as well and gave the 4 gig to my wife. both with a iphone +1500 plan for 30 a month. once the 3g debuted i was excited to FINALLY have navigation on my iphone. turn by turn. who wouldnt pay out the nose to have all this in one device! and i sit and wait. ive lost touch about funny items from friends with no MMS. no turn by turn without having the wife ride shotgun and clicking next. i sold my garmin in hopes to use turn by turn which never came. all just rumors. so what i am getting at is this... the new blackberry storm coming out. who is switching? anyone here at apple care to comment? with all the money invested in these apple devices i own the only thing innovative is my iMac. The storm has MMS, applications, syncs to itunes, better camera, records video, gps with nav options from various ppl, att global network client(since this doesnt work with integrated vpn in iphone) and a few other things. i was just curious as to when can we expect this gps to do something besides geocaching.... HP, iMac, Acer, AS/400, home office is full... Other OS I have more computers available then you can shake a power cord at!
i do not understand: an 8 GB iPhone can be used as a GPS receiver as I can do with a (say) garmin (without to be on line) or I have to be connected to the Internet in order to get GPS satellites data? Is the iPhone much slower getting data than a real GPS receiver?I suppose that I can get GPS data even without the telephone card, but would like an answer from people who are familiar with iPhone.Yes, I am going to buy one of them and would like to realize about it. Many thanks!Flavio powerbook 15" - 1.67 Mac OS X (10.4.11)
Im thinking of getting my hubby the new iphone 3g (I have the first (or second?) gen 8gb and i love it. since downloading a whole bunch of apps and games, he now seems more interested in the 3g. he has a blackberry pearl now, which i got for him last xmas, and i bought it for him primarily bc it has gps and email capability. his gps is more like the garmin or migellan, a lady verbally tells him where to go as well as showing the map, etc. what i want to know is, does the new 3g have the same capability? or does it work just like google maps, where it shows you where to go, but there is no voice over? i ask bc he drives a lot for work, and cant always look at his cell phone for directions if he had the 3g. also if the 3g does not have the capability, is there an app that one can download to help with this? HP Pavillion dv6700 series Notebook Windows Vista
Does anyone know when any company (TomTom, garmin, etc) might release to the App Store an application for Turn-by-Turn GPS?? Windows XP
I havent seen anyone else really complain about this so maybe its just me...but....Has anybody else come to the conclusion that the GPS feature on the iPhone is basically useless compared to a standard garmin or TomTom-type GPS?No turn-by-turn audio. No turn-by-turn instructions that update after making a turn.No driver view of the map, just birds eye view. The map view on the screen doesnt even update when my position leaves the viewable map so I have to keep scrolling while driving to keep my position on the screen (yeah, thats real safe).I have to manually advance step by step through the driving directions to get the next turn instructions. As far as I can see, the iPhone GPS is a total waste if you were expecting it to act at all like a standard GPS unit.Am I missing something?
