I have to use my ear buds with calls. When using the phone to make calls or receive, the volume is so low that I cant hear. I have tried to reset with the airplane mode, turned off wifi, and reset my 3Gs. Anyone have a similar problem. I had this problem with my new 3Gs so after numerous calls to Apple support, it was returned and the same thing happened with the new one. I wonder if there is an issue with my PC and syncing, maybe a virus that is causing this problem when I sync?? iPhone OS 3.0
The intention of this topic is to announce to Apple consumer interest in a feature that has long been absent on the iPhone: custom text message sounds. Cheap flip phones have had the feature for years, why doesnt the iPhone? Apple Discussions readers, if you are interested in custom text sounds on the iPhone, please submit an Enhancement Request on the Apple iPhone feedback website: http://www.apple.com/feedback/iphone.htmlThe following is what I wrote in my Enhancement Request to Apple:I am a new iPhone 3GS owner and am generally pleased with my purchase. However, while the iPhone lets me customize my ringtone with songs from my iTunes library, I am limited to 6 choices for the text message received sounds. This is a problem because many of my friends have iPhones, and with the limited sound choices, I frequently mistake the text message sound from my friends phones for my own. At university, this circumstance occurs extremely frequently. My previous flip phone cost less then $50 and was capable of custom text message sounds. The fact that a $200 iPhone does not have this feature after 2 major hardware revisions and software updates is unacceptable to me.I feel so strongly about customizing my text message sounds, that I intend to jailbreak my iPhone exclusively to add custom text message sounds. Please add the ability to customize text message sounds. If not as an end-user feature, then at least as a Developer API.Thank you for your consideration,GregApple consumers pay top dollar for their products. We should not be forced to void our phones warranty to change a Beep sound to a Boop. Macbook Pro Mac OS X (10.5.7) Self-Installed 320GB HD
All buttons (Home, sleep-wake, volume control) are not responding. The screen is blank (in sleep mode).Phone rings when called but can not recieve because the screen still remains blank. iPhone still pairs with GPS (via blue tooth) and able to make calls indirectly with GPS.Message and e-mail tones sound when received but also can not access them. Looks like everything is working but not the screen and buttons.Any advice what could be the reason and how to fix it?Thanks Toshiba Windows Vista
Can anyone tell me what the score is with getting decent ringtones onto your iPhone, on the apple site it suggests that via iTunes, this can only be done in the U.S Store. I just want to get a tune that i have downloaded and use part of it as a ringtone. Can anyone help? Also, the sounds you can get from app store which are not proper music can only be updated to ringtones and not be used as text tones, does anyone know about this problem either?CheersCallum35 Macbook iPhone OS 3.0
Theres no setting. Im surprised at how un-intuitive the google says it is. Best I could find is this article. Is it really as hard as it is described below? is there an easier way?http://www.technipages.com/increasedecrease-time-iphone-3g-rings-before-going-to-voice-mail.htmlquote: increase/Decrease Time iPhone 3G Rings Before Going to Voice MailPosted on Sep 04, 2008 under iPhone Tips 3 CommentsDid you know that you can set how many seconds the iPhone 3G will ring before it goes to voice mail? Sure you could call customer service and have them do it for you. If you are the techie type though, you will want to do it yourself with these steps:1. Call this number: *#61#2. Write down the voice mail access number that appears on the line that says Forwards to.3. Now call: 61+1vm access number*11*n#Replace vm access number with your voice mail access numberReplace n with the number of seconds that should elapse before the call is sent to voice mail.To type a plus sign, hold down 0 for two seconds. When complete, you should see the following on your iPhone:Setting Activation SucceededVoice Call ForwardingWhen UnansweredYou are now set and the iPhone 3G should ring only for the amount of time you specified now before jumping over the voice mail.Source: macgirl Powermac G5 Quad Mac OS X (10.5.6) PPC Is useless. i used to have this problem a while ago and just gave up on it but i decided to try again now that i downloaded the new firmware and the problem still persists. when i drag a custom ringtone into itunes to put on my phone it works perfectly fine but then when i go to put another one on it just copies over the first ringtone and then makes itself again. so instead of having 2 different ringtones i have the 2nd ringtone twice and the first one is gone and if i try to do another song it copies over the first 2 songs and then makes another one of itself so that i have 3 of the same ringtones.i have the most recent firmware and itunes .. any help on how to get multiple ringtones? or why this is happening? custom Windows XP
Anyone know if there is anything that can be done to preserve ringtone settings? I installed the 3.0 update, and everything went flawlessly, except (just like other updates) the custom ringtones I have assigned to a few directory entries changed back to default. Not really a big deal for me because I only have a few assigned (my immediate family). But it will be a real pain when I apply the update to my wifes phone. She has a assigned a unique ringtone to nearly EVERYONE in her directory <sigh>.I am extremely happy with the new update, but it seems like such a small data element would not be that hard to backup. Am I missing something? I thought battery life was improved? I cant get through a work day without the battery in the red zone. Im finding myself have to charge throughout the day just like with my original 3G model. Any suggestions out there of how to increase battery life? I drained it all the way and recharged over night and still the same. I wouldnt consider my usage extreme or heavy. Any suggestions would be appreciated! iPhone 3GS iPhone OS 3.0
Im using an iPhone 3G with the 3.0 OS, and trying to get music over my bluetooth headphones. The phone connects to the headset fine (theyre paired, the icon flashes when the headset connects, etc), and the headset is reported as fully A2DP compliant. However, when I open the iPod app, the bluetooth icon does not show at the bottom like I expected from the various screenshots floating around... I simply get the old volume slider, and audio still comes only via the speakers or headphone jack.I have tried all the basic solutions - re-pairing the devices, turning things on and off, powering off the phone, etc. Nothing seems to happen. Is anyone else having the same problem? Is it specific to this headphone (the Philips SHB6100)?Does anyone have any advice on how I might get it to work? Thanks in advance for the help! Iphone 3g Other OS
I have the iphone 3g and I recently updated to the 3.0 software and alot of times throughout the day the message pops up that says that this device doesnt work with the iphone and asks if I want to turn on the airplane mood ( I do not have anything plugged into the phone). I also noticed today that when I play my music that there is no sound coming from the speakers ( I dont have headphone plugged in I was just trying to hear it through the phone speakers like I could beofre). It also doesnt show the volume bar. Please help. Thanks Ibook g3 Mac OS X (10.4.11)
How does the iPhone choose between sending text through MMS or through SMS? For example, when a text message exceeds the 160 characters for single text message it must automatically get broken into the multi part SMS format, effectively sending 2 SMS which is recombined at the other end into one message. (is this correct?)This would end up costing me 50 cents to send the message, however if I then send a longer message that is broken into 3 parts for sending, I am getting charged 75 cents and this continues to increase by 25 cents per sms part. This can end up far more expensive than sending an MMS on my carrier as I am charged 50 cents per MMS.Also, it looks like when I send a photo via MMS with text as well it breaks it into an MMS for the picture, but sends a separate SMS? for the text. I cant confirm this as I havent seen my current bill where Ive sent these messages yet.Other phones let you actually select MMS or SMS for the message, either directly, or by allowing you to add a subject, however I cant see how to do this on the iPhone.I know that we can send emails which work out far far cheaper, but MMS is more instantaneous when not everyone checks their email on their phone, or dont have push notifications on because they want the battery to last more than a day without charge. Can anyone shed some light on this? iPhone 3G iPhone OS 3.0 Virgin Mobile Australia
could someone please help me, I have garage band I know how to get the song from Itunes to garage band but I dont know how to crop the part of the song for a ringtone, could someone please tell me how to? Thanks so much.
I am struggling to convert an itumes track to a ringtone. It says error 11556 and check for internet connection - but I know that its working coz it has just allowed me to download something. Any ideas?
This might seem like a dumb question if this is how the phone is designed to work, but when Im using the phone, and the screen is on, the answer/caller id screen stays on the entire time the phone is ringing (as I would definitely expect). However when the phone is locked, the slide to answer/caller id screen goes blank after 2 rings, but the phone continues to ring the final 3 rings (my ringtone is Old Phone). So the only way to see who is calling or answer the phone if I dont get to it by the second ring, when the phone is locked, is to click the home button. So if that is how it is, then I suppose its just a minor annoyance, but if there is an option to change it, or if my phone isnt correctly handling incoming calls, I would appreciate finding that out. iMac 3.06Ghz, uMacBook 2.4Ghz, iPhone 3G S 3.0 Mac OS X (10.5.7) 500GB Hard Disk, NVIDIA 8800GS, 4GB RAM
I find it hard to believe that the new iphone, or any iphone for that matter, cannot do what my past 3-4 phones can do... all i want is to have all my alerts set to vibrate (calls, texts, emails, etc)... is this possible??? please? dell pos iPhone OS 3.0
I just bought one the iPhone 3Gs the other day and I have been wondering if it is possible to have the Iphone ring and vibrate when I receive a call and to only vibrate when I receive a text at the same time. I tried setting it on ring mode to a ringtone and vibrate. So that works for calls, but when I receive a text I plays a little tone and vibrates as well... is it possible to get it to just vibrate? I tried selecting none for the tone but then it doesnt vibrate or ring.
my 3gs status is not yet shipped and after seeing all of the progress people are getting with their phones, I am naturally feeling a little left out. My question is, is this normal? With such a high volume moving in the matter days, is it possible that people arent receiving an update on any web source but the phone has shipped anyway? Or on the other side of things, is it possible that some or many may slip through the cracks (even though they ordered on or a little after last Monday) and not get a Friday delivery? Maybe some can shed some experience from the 3g launch. Thanks MBP, iMac Al, iPhone 3gs, 10.6

Im thinking about getting the iPhone 3.0. I heard that in the previous versions, you couldnt retrieve a video or picture attachment from a text message. Also, I dont think you were able to send a sound clip to your phone via either email or text and then set it as your ringtone. Am I correct about those details? Also, any idea if these are fixed in iPhone 3.0?
hello, I manually manage my mp3, mp4, and m4r files, but I found that if I add a ringtone to my iphone, it will be repeat one of those old ringtone...but in iTunes is good, the only way I can add ringtone is, delet all songs...movies...ringtones....and sync it, but I want to manage them manually, what should I do? What is Apple going to do about the low ringer volume on the iphone? They only have one speaker at the bottom of the phone, which makes it almost impossible to hear outdoors with city traffic! iphone 1st gen.

Recently my iPhone has been doing odd things on its own, Ill be looking at texts or an app and itll just close to the home screen or go blank or to the screen for powering down..the ringer volume level goes up and down by itself and sometimes it restarts itself and goes into a restart loop for awhile. It also drops calls and goes to the home screen without even saying call failed. I have restored the software since this has been happening and its still does it.What I want to know is if I take it in and cant be fixed if I am still eligible to get a new one, its less than a year old.Thanks. OK - I have made a bunch of custom ringtones using Logic. All but one of them with synchronize fine. I followed the same sequence of steps, so I cant figure out why this one isnt working. They all show up in the Ringtones entry for iTunes, but this one doesnt show up in the Ringtones tab in the iPhone settings. I cant figure out why this isnt being recognized a ringtone here when all the others are AND when it shows up under Ringtones in another part of the program. Greetings,I use Internet radio apps like Pandora and Live365. Often, when I stop the app and unplug the audio cable or earbuds, the iPod app will start playing the very first song (alphabetically speaking) in its library. At full volume, no less. So, I have to quickly hit the iPod button to bring it up, and then hit stop.It doesnt happen every time, and I cant figure out if there is a particular sequence of events that triggers it, or if its just random. Anyone else experience this? Thanks,DMMessage was edited by: Doctormelodious Mac Pro 8 core Mac OS X (10.5.6) iBook G4 1.2 GHz
Hi. Im new here, but I think some insight might be helpful from you guys.I have a 16gb iPhone 3g. Ive had it since it came out, and its treated me very nicely. A few months ago, at college, I dropped my phone and cracked the very top right of the it (just a tiiiiny bit near the actual screen part of the phone). Everything functioned still, although it was mighty ugly and made me sad =(. Let me refresh you that it was back in Novemberish. Recently (last saturday), I was playing music for a get together from my phone through the headphone jack. The music was playing and all of a sudden stopped abruptly. I wasnt sure what happened so I checked it out. To my demise, the lock button, headphone jack, volume switches and vibrate switch were unresponsive. I did some research and found out that they all operate on the same sensor. Im not sure if this has to do with the glass crack that happened half a year ago, or what. I went to the Genius Bar to try and negotiate a new replacement, but supposedly, although it malfunctioned due to usage, I couldnt get it replaced.Anyone have any thoughts or suggestions for the physical buttons on my iPhone being broken? Its killin me.Backbeat.I went to Apple Mac OS X (10.5.7)

Whilst I was travelling in South East Asia, I needed to purchase a new phone.I found a supplier of iPhones in Thailand that sold me an Official Apple Unlocked iPhone, it turned out to be an Italian iPhone, again an official Apple one.I needed an unlocked phone that I could use in many different countries, using local SIM cards.I have been very happy with the phone, it needed updating to v2 and this did not cause any problems.I was just speaking with AppleCare about an unrelated issue. at the end of the conversation I mentioned that the only thing about the iPhone that was disappointing about the iPhone was the volume of the speaker phone. The agent took the serial number of the iPhone and put me through to iPhone support. The iPhone agent then took the serial number again and told me that I had an Italian iPhone, because it was bought in Thailand, support was only available through Thailand, she also told me that using a SIM card other than that of an official carrier voided the warranty. All this seems a bit restrictive, for people in my position, to buy an Official Apple product and then be denied support defeats the object of sourcing an unlocked product in the first place. I can understand why Apple refuse to support iPhones that are unofficially unlocked, but to deny support for an official product seems grossly unfair.Anyone else had problems getting Apple to support their own products, any ideas how this situation can be resolved?Jeremy iMac intel 24" white, Mac Mini, PMG4, iMac G4, MBP, iPhone Mac OS X (10.5.7) Boot Camp (XP), VM Ware (XP)
Im sure this must have been covered but as a newbie I hope youll bear with me. The ring tones on the iphone are naff to say the least. I bought a ringtone from itunes but it put it in the normal playlist. How do I use it as a ring tone? i have a 3g with 2.2.1.the phone has started to regularly - every few minutes -lock itself up, go to the slide to power off screen, cancel calls, self-adjust the volume, lock the keypad etc, loads of problems.i have tried doing a restore and this works for a very short while but thats it and it starts again.I have tried it with only default apps and it still does it.anyone got any ideas? the warranty is still valid until th end of july so should i take it to an Apple store and get it looked at? emac
I have a iPhone 3G and I have dropped it a couple times since I owned it. Now last night I of course dropped it again, after I dropped it it kept vibrating then stops acting like Im switching it to vibrate to volume. It finally stopped so thats ok. But when I am on the phone I hear a ting sound through the speaker. Also when I shake the phone it sounds like something is lose inside. Now I know this isnt under warranty and plus I had this phone since it just came out. My question is has anyone got there phone fixed kinda like how I need mine? How much did it cost? Is it worth to fix or get new? Last question can they replace the back of the phone? since its been drop so much my back is all scartch hardcore. I found black backens online but not white (which is what I have)
My iphone headphone jack isnt working. Its as if the phone is thinking that opposite. When there are no headphones in I cant hear anything and pressing the volume button shows (headphones)on the screen. However when the headphones are in it acts as if there are none in it and all the sound functions work fine.I also know that it definitaly thinks that is in headphone mode when nothing is plugged in as while playing music and putting the headphones in but not all the way you can get music to play through the headphones..I have just recently swapped the back case on my iphone and it came with headphone jack switches etc already in place. All I had to do was attach a cable..Do you think that there is anyway to get a program to manually change it or a command line that will reverse it? iPhone 2G
I have created and transferred several custom ringtones onto my iPhone. I have successfully set custom ringtones for specific people in contacts and heard the assigned ringtones when those people call. However, after some time passes, my iPhone reverts to the default ringtone (which, on my phone, is a custom ringtone that I created and transferred to the phone). I can reassign the specific ringtones to specific people again and they will ring for those people sgsin, but after a while the ringtone will again revert to the default. It is as if the iPhone periodically resets all ringtones to the default.Anyone know how to make ringtones stick to specific contacts? Mac OS X (10.5.6)

heres how i paried with both the jabra a7010 bluetooth adapter for office phones (panasonic in my case) and my iphone second generation (3g).the problem with the jabra base is that you hold its activity button down for a few seconds and it goes into autopairing mode so you cant set it to find devices for pairing and then enter any authorization codes.what i did was first reset the bluetooth headset (i think this is what happened at least) by holding the call and 2 volume buttons down for ten seconds until the light turned solid blue.i then put the jabra device into pairing mode by holding down the button as described above and at the same time the iphone was searching for devices (i had deleted the earlier pairing) and had found the motorola bluetooth headset h710.the jabra device will now automatically pair as soon as it was detected the headset and both devices (headset and jabra unit) will flash. you will still see the h710 visible in the iphones list of found devices and you should click on pair wherein you will be shown the pin number dialog in which you have to enter 0000. this sets up the device as paired and makes it the primary bluetooth device.what i think the primary device designates is that it will be used whenever you use the headset to initiate calls, etc but you can receive incoming calls or activation requests (i can push the button on the jabra and it will connect and start a call on my landline) from either device.motorola really need to put some more work into their paltry user manuals and beef up their online support resources beyond a download of their already incomplete PDF booklet.the h710 is the best headset on the market at any price though. macbook Mac OS X (10.5.7)

Im a new iphone user. I bought 3 ringtones from itunes. They show up in my itunes under Purchased, and in my music library. They do not have the bell icon next to them as they did in the store window. I read through the forums and saw that I need to use the ringtone editor within the store window before purchasing and downloading. So I went back to the store window, selected a ringtone, clicked on the bell icon and it brought me to a How To page, not to the actual ringtone editor. So I tried selecting the ringtone and going to the Store menu and selecting Create ringtone, but it is grayed out and not available as an option.Am I S.O.L. on the three ringtones I bought that came into my itunes without the bell icon?
