iPhone 3G gets stuck when trying to restore

Phone wont start!1) Whenever I try to start my iPhone up it comes up with the restore graphic (usb cable and itunes icons)2) I plug it in and it says itunes has detected an iphone in recovery mode. you must restore this iphone before it can be used with itunes3) I say ok and it starts restoring to factory settings and then freezes4) Highly frustrating!! macbook pro Mac OS X (10.6.3)

Iphone4 freezes when closing multitasking apps. Unacceptable

Has anyone noticed that when you have a number of apps running, and you continuously tap the x to close out of them, the iPhone freezes even though the icons keep wiggling. It takes the phone about 2 minutes to unfreeze, or I have to restart it. This doesnt only happen if you have a ton of apps running, sometimes it happens randomly when closing out of just one app. It happens on my iPhone 4. Software bug? Anyone else having this issue? macbook pro Mac OS X (10.5.6)

iPhone locked and cannot connect to iTunes after update

When I plugged in my iPhone to my desktop, it told me that I could download a new version of iTunes. I did, and then I got an error message while downloading (I didnt record the error message like a dummy). Now, I am left with the icons to connect to iTunes on my phones screen. The only problem is that I cant connect to iTunes anymore. I cant use my phone, and I cant connect even though I just connected before trying to download the new version of iTunes.Ive tried restarting my computer and the phone. I have also plugged in and pulled out my iPhones connection as well as restarting iTunes to no avail. I dont want to download a new version of iTunes since I have playlists that I have worked a good deal on. Is there anything else I can do? 3G iPhone OS 3.0

I got my iphone 4 today & activated it. I used my back up to restore my stuff. Well I went online to try to get the iOS 4 update, but it says I have the latest version 4. I dont have the book thing that I keep seeing. I dont even see anything about facetime or nothing. There is no difference on my icons except I can put them into folders. My flash is to much & turns the picture blue. I dont even know what Im doing wrong or what to do. Do the 4s come with the update everyone is getting? If so where can I find facetime, iPhoto, & the book app. I keep hearing about? Im so upset right now. Thanks for listening and for any help you can offer me.

IPhone 3G touch screen unresponsive

Hi, so my iPhone 3G has been working greets until this evening when the row of icons above the dock wouldnt respond to my touches. The area is completely un responsive in the home screen but when i go to the notes key board only the J and N wont respond. Additionally in my settings menu i cant click on anything in that same area but when i go into photos or calendar the area is responsive. I tried apples touch screen diagnostic by going into the calculator and found that 4,5,6 and + are partially unresponsive. Im not sure if this is a software or hardware issue so any input would be great. Mac iOS 4

I am sure this is not new, but my Iphone 3G was great until I loaded the latest software update about two weeks ago. I love the mini icons etc., but the phone is SO slow now. Typing, getting email, activating Apps etc. I am in the process of restoring my factory defaults, as I am so unhappy with the new software. Have there been issues when restoring the factory software? Screen displays large icons and everything iPhone

Somehow, the screen is not normal display, but appears as if zoomed in somewhat and wont revert back to normal. I have reset manually (2-button press), backed up and restored (iTunes) but to no avail. Deleting Voice mails iPhone

Suddenly I cant delete any of my voice mails. Voice mail takes me to the Voicemail page and it list the last 5 voice mails I received and I can listen to them over and over or it will take me to the contact information for the person that left the voice mail, but there is nothing else on the page other the greeting and speaker icons. iPhone 3G no light from LCD backlight.

My scrren is not lighting up. I can see the icons and what Im doing on the phone under light, but the screen is not lighting up. I tried replacing the LCD and I still have the same issue. Is there another component I should try to replace?Thanks Iphone 3G, 3GS, 4

Finally iOS 4.0.1 working on my 3G – Speed Solution Below iPhone

I managed to get iOS4 working on my 3g with no speed problems.Solution, I performed a factory restore from iTunes with the latest 4.0.1 update.The down side of this is I have lost my SMS history, Contacts History and desktop icons and favourites. I was able to select apps to reinstall from my iTunes after the update.I managed to backup my photos first with iPhone Explorer ( Google it ) as the phone was not showing the DCIM folder anymore after iTunes 9.2 update.I would imagine the iPhones file system format has changes from 3.x to 4.x and have noticed less file permission errors etc with the Apple iPhone Configuration Utility (that allowed me to view live debug messages from the iPhone. It would be nice if Apple released a fix to improve the issues though.I am still mad with Apple for ignoring this problem and will not buy another iPhone. 3G iOS 4

I just did a sync of my iPhone 3G. In iTunes in the Apps screen on my PC some of the App icons have been duplicated and there is an exclamation point in front of them. Multitasking iPhone 3G

My iPhone worked very nicely until I up graded to the OS 4 - big mistake!It is running very hot and chewing up the battery life as I watch.I have discovered that when I double click the little dimple button at the bottom of the screen a band appears containing the icons of what I take to be the active applications running at the time. In my case, it looks as if I have more than a dozen going at once.How I do I turn these off or quit them? I have turned off as many things as I can find via Settings in order to reduce the load on the battery but I seem to have no control over these other applications. iphone 3g 8GB-upgraded to new OS and now everything

Ok the upgrade process... what can I say good about it? It restored all my apps and pictures, etc but all my phone settings were nuked. All my email settings were gone, all of my contacts were erased, all of my favorite numbers were gone, all of my SMS messages were gone... even small details like which icons I had on my dock and the arrangement of my apps on each screen gone.Luckily I sync everything with gmail so I was able to get my contacts up and manually rearrange etc. I was not too angry at this point.Enter using my phone. Now if I use pandora or slacker radio for more than 10 minutes they start giving me a skipping sort of noise like a CD with scratches on it and then they crash.I shut down the phone and restarted it and the same result happens. Up until now I have literally run pandora for an 8 hour workday with no crashes. Now every 10 minutes it is shutting down. Tried slacker and it is even worse.Opened up 4square and logged in, of course it hung and never completed the first check-in, had to exit back to homescreen and then it crashed the second time. Now I go back in and it works the 3rd time. I havent had these problems until now.oh... but yay... i have threaded emails PC Windows Vista

Intentionally blur app icons iPhone

Why does it seem that the iPhone 4 will intentionally downgrade an apps icon resolution when it recognizes its not compatible? it would be understandable in most cases, but when you download an app for the first time the app shows up crystal clear for the retina display while the bar runs across but then it immediately turns to a lower resolution for the older iPhone screen. iPhone 3g touch screen dead zone-bottom 20 of screen

Hi,I seem to be having the well-documented dead zone problem with my iPhone 3G that involves a touch screen dead zone on the phone.The bottom 15-20% of the screen is dead which doesnt allow me to access any of the favorite 4 icons at the bottom of my screen (SMS, Email, Safari and Ipod).I found the Apple Support Document TS1827, but cleaning under my screen protector, restarting, etc. did not work. I tried the calculator and regardless of the orientation of the phone, the dead zone remains dead. My phone is extremely well protected and I am very careful about taking care of it, so this is a very dismaying problem.Any suggestions as to what I can do?Note: I have a Genius Bar appointment for later today, but was hoping someone could help me figure out what is wrong before then.Thank you. icons problem with Itunes on 3G Iphone IOS4

The install and restore seemed to work fine. All the icons are there. As soon as they open, they close. Only the core apple functions work. Ive been told to downgrade, but that shouldnt be necessary.Anyone else having this problem? Any solutions? Macbook Pro Mac OS X (10.5.6)

I have had my iPhone 3G since the week they came out. I have loved it every second ive been on it, never had but maybe a couple times of having an app crash or a random shutdown.I read the whole feature list for 4 and got so excited, downloaded it, waited like 3 hours for iTunes to back my iPhone up and was so happy when it was done.But now almost 2 weeks later, I HATE IT. Words cannot describe how close ive been to throwing the ****** out the window when im in the car, or dodging it at the wall when im home or in a store.(Im huge on music, never go a car trip without having music played from the iPhone through my stereo) Now when I click iPod it takes upwards of 15-30 seconds before anything happens after the black screen, and then another 8 second delay just to play the song after I clik on it.Anytime im online now (WiFi) checking my email/facebook/myspace ETC, it ALWAYS takes FOREVER to open the app, and then forever again to become functional. Ill be checking my short texted emails and ill swipe my finger to scroll down, and literally it will freeze up for upwords of 30 seconds again.The new update makes the 4 main icons look better, but honestly IMO thats all it does. and thats not worth it to have horrible response time for everything else.I also notice my battery dies like nothing now, even if I dont use it much!(I dont use mine with an AT&T contract, I just use it like an iPod Touch, but I like the thickness better, and camera/mic and having the headphone jack on top)Anyone else having these horrible issues? What the **** can I do!?

Phone Home button configuration missing iPhone

I let the iPhone upgrade to version 4 of the OS. Ever since then, my Home button does something strange when double-clicked. It shifts the current screen up 1 row (including the static row at the bottom) and dims it, and then replaces the static row at the bottom with the 4 original static icons. I had configured double-click to be my Favorites. I went to Settings/General to configure it again, but the Home configuration is missing now. Can anyone help? u know right after re doing the update (restore) when the phone is fresh with 4.0 and it has a new app that when touched it has a few of the iphones apps like a pic of home and a few other icons? what happens to that when I re-STORE from my backup? Slow Response Time on iPhone 3G

On or about r4.0 coming out I started experiencing significant Response Time delays moving between keys on my iPhone and not sure why. I believe this to be a Processor issue... anybody else out there experiencing this issue. Example:Select Setting icon on Home Screen... reasonable response time of 1-secSelect General icon tab... 3-4 sec delay in response Select another tab on General screen... another 3-4 sec delay before new screen appears.Hit Home button to close General window... 3-4 sec delay...Select Messaging icon... goes to white screen and 3-4 sec delay before messaging dialogue screen comes upKeep in mind that there arent any other apps running in the background that causes response time delaysThe response time delays occur, regardless whether I am on Edge, Wi-fi or 3G.. Cant get to reset screen in General after 4.0 upgrade iPhone 3G

So. I loaded OS 4.0 a few weeks ago, and all seemed well. No real issues. Until I attempted to get to the General screen under settings to reset my icons. It wont load. I can load Settings, and near as I can tell, every other subcategory of Settings, but if I click General, it just hangs, then goes back to my home screen.Restored the phone, same issue. Wallpaper behind icons iPhone 3G

I recently updated my 3g to the new 4.0 version, and had a HORRIBLE experience. I lost ALL info and it said there was no backup for my iPhone!!! I restarted my computer and eventually after about 15 syncs, I regained all info, but all of my apps lost all information on them!My phone has also been totally acting up, freezing, constantly reloading my e-mail after deleting all of it, and other various things (I did a restore today and hopefully that will help.) My question however is not related to my bad experience.My question is, does the iPhone 3G not have the wallpaper behind the icons ability? My in-laws both have 3GS phones, and they both have the wallpaper in the background.I restored my phone today, but still no wallpaper. Is my phone still jacked up, or do I not get this detail of the upgrade? If anyone knows, please let me know! unable to restore iPhone 3G

Okay, something happend to my phone. So now I cannot get icons,or anything to appear in window. Its just black!!?! When I go to reset iPhone a window opens up and says iTune has detected an iPhone in recovery mode. You must restore this iphone before it can be used in iTunes But when I plug iPhone into my Macbook,and hold down restore botton on top right hand corner of phone...a new image appears in iPhone window. Actually two images appear. One is of the iTunes avatar/logo,and the other appears to be an image of cable aimed at itunes with a white arrow inbetween them pointing towards iTunes logo. So everytime I go to reset it(iphone), these images appear in iPhone window,and of course it keeps me from getting my phone back to normal settings. I updated to the new 4.0 OS and now my iPhone which has nothing on it to begin with has been so slow that I regret updating my iphones firmware.1.Unlocking the phone sometimes takes 10 seconds2. Many 3G with OS 4 Problems FIXED iPhone

I have been having many problems since I upgraded my 3G to the new OS 4 system. I have read hundreds of Posts that all of you have written and I see my problems are not unique.Here is all I will say: Reset All Data had a HUGE POSITIVE impact on performance on my 3G after the new OS 4 was installed. I was having problems across the board (slow, crashes, loss of data, etc.). My Passcode was not working, the Keyboard was awful, I regretted installing OS 4. After reading all the Posts, I decided to go ahead and do the Reset All Data process. Boy the change was immediate and positive. 99% of my complaints went away immediately.I am still having problems with the MobileMe Find My iPhone process. It is still not accurate at all. This worked on my 3G under ios 4.0, but not on my new iphone 4. Anyone else see this....Bookmark a web page (cnn, msnbc is what Im trying to do), save the bookmark to your home screen. How to re-load OS 3.0 without iTunes My iPhone has NON-Apple alien OS. 3G

My iPhone has a NON-Apple alien Chinese OS running. This OS caused iTunes to NOT see the phone on USB when I connect the phone to the computer. I want to re-load the non-Apple OS to Apple version 3.0 but I cannot because iTunes does not see the phone. I know the os is Chinese and alien because none of the icons are correct, example I see no ipod, its labeled audioplayer. I see no Safari, its labeled services and so on. I also can NOT see the about, its not found. I have a video recorder it works, I thought iPhone 3G can not run videos. I have lots of Chinese games and symbols. iphone 3g will NOT connect to itunes

My iphone 3G will not connect with itunes. I see the device as a USB drive e and g and I see the music and files on the phone OK in windows explorer. The phone shows up in the USB devices as MEDIATEC FLASH DRIVE two times. The icons on the phone also are not whats on the box, the bottom icons are dial, filemanager, audioplayer and services for example. I do not have safari or the ipod icons at all. Upgrading to iPhone 4 Hand-me-down 3G

I know this is probably an A.T. & T. question, but I want to throw it out here as well to see if anyone has attempted this and what their experiences were.My wife and I currently have the iPhone 3G. We are planning on upgrading to the iPhone 4, probably in July. Our children have old POS phones without any data plan - just voice and text. The sons phone (Motorola) has very poor quality and it sounds like he is talking underwater. The daughters phone (pantech Duo) is temperamental at best. It shuts off by itself or the screen goes technicolor and she cant see the screen. Our son is currently in the Delayed Enlistment Program, due to ship out sometime within the next six months. Our Daughter will be signing up for the Delayed Enlistment Program next month and will ship out about this time next year. I dont want to replace their phones and get locked into another two year contract when they will be out of the house long before that two years is up. I dont want them to sign up for their own contracts right now because they have no idea where they will end up. If they end up somewhere overseas, the A.T. & T. contract will be worthless to them. What I would like to do is when we upgrade our phones to the iPhone 4, give them the iPhone 3G and just let them use it as a phone (and iPod). We already tested their sim in it and it works. If they attempt to go somewhere (data-wise) it comes up and says a data plan is not approved for this account (Im paraphrasing). If they need a data connection, it works fine when it is on WiFi. My concern is this: Can A.T. & T. tell what kind of device is on a certain sim? And if they see it is an iPhone, even if the data apps are not being used, can they force the data plan on to my bill? If they can, and they do, would that extend the contract on either of the kids numbers? I would like to be able to help out my kids in the most economical way and without extending a contract since they will be on their own before it is too far into it. My only other option is finding a decent used phone on craigslist, but that is dumb if I have two perfectly good iPhones they can use. Has anyone ever tried this and what was the outcome? Reboot Loop from too many apps iPhone 3G

Hey Everyone,Is there a safe mode that I can initiate somehow during boot that would at least get me to the Home screen so I can delete recent or excessively added apps? My 16 GB 3G has been working fine for most of the last year and a half but I think Im up to about 300 apps at the moment because Im a bit of a packrat and only delete one app for every 2 I add.While the 10+GB of apps has definitely slowed it down considerably during use and made the reboot time take about 5 minutes, its been more or less predictable enough. Then yesterday, I was either do some updates or new downloads (which went fine) and then as I was moving icons around, it rebooted suddenly.During the reboot (plugged in), it seems to boot close to the end (even to the point of allowing me to access the picture folder via my PC) which stayed running long enough for me to copy all 400 photos. Then it hits a certain point and it resets and repeats. Anyway, like I said before, if theres a way to interrupt the process and have some way of deleting apps, then please let me know.This phone is not jailbroken and unfortunately for me, not been syncd in quite a while so getting it to work long enough to retrieve my vital data is really important to me. iPhone 3G Screen goes black after ending call I made-then weird things

After I end a call I initiated (that was not answered or I try to end) the screen will occasionally go black. I hit the home key and there may be a flash of light then goes immediately black again...Flickers on and off like this. Just had the Genius check it out (for some other reasons) and did a complete restore from beginning (loosing data but thats okay - better than my mind!) Now, however, when the light comes back on, the typewriter keyboard is superimposed over a page of icons. I finally was able to capture a picture before it goes black totally and I have to reboot. Bottom of screen 12 inch from bottom not responsive. iPhone 3G

Hello, I have an unlocked Iphone with a screen that is partially non-responsive. The bottom of my screen, the area about 1/2 an inch above the bottom of the screen, is not responding. That area houses my phone, mail, messages, and ipod icons which I am unable to access. At times when I press one of those icons i am navigated to the next page of my apps and then nothing. I purchased the phone on craigslist second hand because I wanted to try it out before I commit to a two-year contract and a hefty price. Thanks in advance for any help you can provide. eac A1241

Hi, i just got my first iphone and have a question re: icons. Theres a web page i use for work. I access as much as any site i use. Theres no app for it, so to make it easier to locate, i created a bookmark/icon on my iphone, which is the typical blank white square. I want to create my own icon for it, so i went on Youtube and was shown how to make it in photoshop, which i have done successfully and have saved it as a.png fileMy question is how do i upload it? How can i get this icon onto the iphone? Its not an app, not sure if that matters or not. I spent a while creating this thing in CS3, so i would really like to use it now. I tired googling but everything im seeing talks about something called winterboard, which makes no sense to me.Any information on how to do this would be so appreciativeThank You. iPhone Screen 3G

My grandson was watching Spongebob on my iPhone and he left the screen with all of the icons larger than normal. I cant seem to find the solution to bring them back to their original smaller size. Any help out there? Much thanks in advance. Gramps. iMac G5 Mac OS X (10.5.4)

Screen just went blank iPhone 3G

I dont know what happened, i was using it, then the screen went completely black except for the signal bar, time and battery life icons. I pressed the power button to bring up the off screen but the touch screen isnt working. Tried the lock and home button restart trick but nothing. Any suggestions? Thanks. HP Windows Vista 64 bit

Part of screen not working but . iPhone 3G

This is what happens:When I see the applications icons, the 2nd horizontal line of icons (the ones that are up the pages dots) dont work, if I click one I change the application page and the application doesnt launch. But if Im using the keyboard and I tap at the same place everything works as expected.Thanks in advance.

Phone randomly locked iPhone

I have an iPhone, bought from Parallel Imports some time ago. Has worked fine up until a couple weeks ago. Was syncing it with iTunes and it just locked up. It displays the icons to show its connected to iTunes, but when I slide it just comes up with Emergency Calls Only. Help, please!!!

iphone battery icons appear charged even it not charged completly. 3G

Hello,Recently I updated the OS of iphone to 3.1.2 after that there was no issues. After some days I am facing a strange issue. The battery icon appears fully charged with the switch icon on the battery. When I disconnect the USB still 25-30% of charging will be remained. I need to plug the USB several times then it shows charging again. Sometimes I restarted the iphone itself.Please assist what is causing this problem and how to get rid of this. All icons missing iPhone 3G

I just bought my new iPhone 3G and was exploring the phone. I mistakenly pressed Reset button under settings (not even further reset buttons), after which all the application icons are missing, except for YouTube, Stocks, Weather, Voice Memos, Clock & Settings. Even the phone options at bottom bar is missing. I cant even make phone or send text or access any of the iPhone applications. I tried rebooting the phone couple of times, reset all factory settings, reset home screen layout, but nothing works. Restrictions are off. I cant figure out what to do. new iphone user looking for advice 3G

I am pretty happy with my phone; had it for about 3 months, but would appreciate some advice from non-luddites and experienced iphone users.I bought a mophie case/battery extender, which has helped the battery a bit, but now read that its not the best option. Can you suggest which is the best option, just for future reference?Im interested in protecting myself against the lost phone, phone theft thing; I understand theres an app that you can use to track the phone if its lost or stolen. Can someone offer some advice about what this costs (Im in Australia); and how big an impact it would have on the battery to have the locater switched on all the time. (bearing in mind that Im not going to know when I am about to lose or have my phone stolen)those of you who have had iphones for a fair while, can you give some hints about extending the battery life? Ive pretty much shut down all the big power users so the life has improved. What is the current wisdom on completely discharging the battery once a month? Its so hard to keep up with changes in battery technology.And the other thing; how difficult/expensive is it to get it replaced? I have heard that its quite expensive to sort out a new battery for an ipod; is the iphone a huge hassle as well. And what sort of life are most users getting from their batteries (before they need replacing)? it does occur to me that I should have checked this before I bought the thing....I was playing around with the voice control, voice commentary thing; every - and had a real hassle trying to reset it; any advice about other options that I should just leave the **** alone?
