message counter iphone

Whenever I receive a message, it comes up with a preview and the option to close/reply. Regardless of which I select, it will decrement the message counter (on the icon) as if I have read the message.I can understand that it decrements on a reply, but if I hit close I would expect it to stay unread.The only way I can currently ignore a message, is to have the phone locked when it arrives, and put it back to sleep to change the swipe to view to swipe to unlock again.Is there any way to ignore a message so that it remains unread?Cheers! 1.33 Al PB G4 - 2GB, 60GB HD Mac OS X (10.5.7) 32GB iphone 3GS

iphone freezes

I have a first-gen iphone. More than 50% of the time, the iphone freezes after I wake it up from sleep mode (I cannot slide the bar to unlock). It does this when I wake up the iphone manually by pressing the home button, or if it wakes up because it receives an incoming message or phone call. It will even do it when it is in Airplane mode. And it has done this on the original software and has not improved with software updates. Its not a permanent freeze; I can work around it by putting it to sleep with the top button and then waking it up with the home button. But its getting annoying because it means I cant answer 50% of my incoming calls.Any ideas? Ok, so my phone froze on me while i was trying to unlock it. And when it would like slide to unlock, i rebooted my phone. So im waiting for it to reboot then i see the circle loaders and then i just leave it thinking it would restart, then i keep an eye on it and then i notice that it reboots again. and right now im freakin out because im like real mad and it isnt connecting to iTunes. Im trying to put it in DFU mode but it isnt working a bit. I dont know what to do right now. Im just trying to restore it so itll be fine. Dell Vista iphone OS 3.0

White Screen On Phone Wont Go Away iphone 3G

My 3G is acting up. I got the white screen thing that Ive read about. Went on Google to get info as how to remedy it. Did the hard reset probably 20 times and restored my phone probably 10 times. My laptop recognizes my phone, iTunes recognizes it, and it syncs fine. Also, I can unlock the phone and hear it unlock and slide through my main screens and hear the sounds it makes, which leads me to believe that the phone is still operational, but there is something wrong with the screen. When I do a hard reset, the Apple logo never shows up. The screen goes off, then comes back on white, and it proceeds to do the same thing again. I dont have an Apple store within reasonable distance to me, nor do I have an AT&T store that sells iphone (my town is too small for them to sell it apparently). Any help? I have a feeling Im going to have to buy a new LCD screen or take it to a refurb shop in the next town over. Toshiba Satellite Windows Vista

Ive been getting calls from country code 20 which is Egypt. After 4-5 times I decided to answer it and after just 1 second there was silence and my phone blanked off, then I had to slide to unlock. A Push Notification on iphone in airplane mode with wifi connection

I have an iphone that is old that I use as an iPod Touch. I have the phone in Airplane mode but I have WiFi on. Aim pushes well when the phone is actively on. However, when you sleep the phone, after 5-6 minutes the phone disconnects from the Wifi connection. Therefore, the push notifications from Aim do not come until you slide to unlock the phone. Question: What can I do to keep wifi connected even when the phone is asleep? iphone remains connected to the cell network when it is asleep. The headset Next & Previous buttons no longer workBEFORE: I could move to the next/prev song by pressing the appropriate button on the Headset... didnt even have to touch the iphone. NOW: I have to activate the iphone screen, unlock the phone and then touch the next/prev button on the screen.2. All sorts of problems following the 3.0 upgrade.First the phone was reeeeeaaaallllly slow. So I tried restoring it.Now iphone just freezes on the main screen with slide bar to unlock the phone but sliding across does nothing. I recently upgraded to the iphone 3.0 release on June 17th and since have been prompted for my iTunes credentials more than 20 times per day. Push Notification iphone

Guys/Gals im trying to figure out this whole push notification thing in iphone OS 3.0. to be honest i got a Palm Pre on release date. The WebOS was awesome unfortunately the phone had major reception problems and i had to return it. So im looking at PreOrdering an iphone 3GS. The main reason i loved the Pre so much was because of multitasking but iphone has this push notification thing that i really dont totally understand. One of the main things i wanted multitasking is to do things like run yahoo messenger in the background so that i can send/recieve IMs while im doing other things or say get notification on ebay auctions, email notification, SMS, ect. So say yahoo messenger was setup for push notification.....would it really still be running in the background (kind of)? Could you send/receive IMs through push/pull pull type notification or if you reacted to the IM (Reply) would it close whatever you have open and open yahoo messenger? What would my status be on yahoo messenger? Would i still show online or would i just get some type of notification when someone sent me a offline IM? I found one video on push that dealt with AIM but it wasnt that great and really didnt answer my questions. Can anyone help me understand how this push notification works currently or is this something no one really knows yet?On an aside i WISH apple really would unlock the multitasking on the iphone. They claim its due to battery life. Will the new iphone 3gs and the palm pre has pretty similar hardware....and the pre would be at about 20% battery life at the end of a day for me. Which is just fine batter life. Even if they would add maybe an app limit...say you can only have 3 apps open at a time...i think everyone would be elated. Im moving to Rome with my job for eight months, then on to Chicago for four months, then back to London. Im trying to find out if I buy an unlocked Pay as You Go iphone in one of the various EU countries selling manufacturer unlocked units (France, Germany, Italy, etc) , will it work in each country if I switch to that countrys telecoms Sim cards.The blogs and iphone dedicated websites are full of opinions but no one seems to have definitive experience doing this. Some users say it should work, others say the EU iPhones are unlocked for the specific country of purchase but will not work with another countrys telecoms Sim cards. The Apple Stores will not confirm any usage outside their own country. Similar response from the relevant telecoms. The Apple Support pages do not make any reference to cross country usage beyond roaming.A privately unlocked iphone is an option but I prefer an official unlock so there are no hassles. My iPhones just not working.

So, last night I left my phone on the charger and when I woke up this morning to check the time my lock screen showed up but it wouldnt let me unlock my phone. I unplugged it from the charger and tried again and this time my screen stays black. I plugged it into the charger again, still nothing, then I plug it into my computer and nothing still, though it did sync my iphone.. I thought it was a strange that it would still sync my phone so I called it (from my house phone) and it didnt go straight to voice mail like it would do if it was off. My iphone on the other hand did nothing..Getting frustrated at this point I just flat out restored the original settings, and now it seems to be working again.. What Im really wondering is what the heck I did to make it do this in the first place, so it doesnt happen again. :/ Ive only had the phone for about a month now. (Dunno if thatll help but whatever.)

Okay, so I dropped my iphone 3G from my pocket, and ever since then the lower half of my screen hasnt been responding. WiFi top icon not appearing when when Wifi setting on iphone 3G

I use Wifi quite a bit, even though I do have a good plan. At least a couple of times now, knowingly being surrounded by numerous signals (my fathers apartment building),public and private protected and non protected signals, my Wifi icon signal, refuses to appear, my Wifi setting of course being set to ON. I try a soft reset or a couple of them at least, with no change. The lack of visual Wifi icon or signal, is also met by inability to use Wifi. Of course, I do know the proper connection process involved in Wifi, but point is Wifi is not there, and indicates on my Wifi app locator also, that I should turn my Wifi on.I also try doing a fresh Search for carrier reset, turn On and OFf my Airplaine mode, and virtually try everything to at least show that I have connection, to no avail..I eventually try it out at other locations, and sometimes get a flicker of hope when I see the icon momentarily, and then disappear. Eventually, I make it back home, where now I see Full bars on my Wifi immediately when I Slide to unlock. Does this sound like it is a hardware problem that could degrade , leading to No Wifi down the road? Can the Apple store, when they do their hardware check (I have seen them run a test on iPhones on their laptops) see if there is a defective Wifi chip? I suppose, once I go there, it will be for naught, because that will be the day it is working, and hard to prove that it wasnt working. With all the aftermarket dual sim, and unlock piggyback sim cards out there, why is it that Apple & AT&T dont get together and create one sim card that is AT&T only that will unlock the phone only with the sim in and allow two AT&T phone numbers on that same sim??? Phone sometimes gets stuck on Apple logo when restarting iphone 3G

I was just using one of my apps (a todo list that id purchased from the appstore) and it would crash (stop) on an option I use all the time.. ive seen it do this before (i assume that the app sometimes runs out of memory because its not being released or something to that effect).. anyway, I am fine with having to restart my phone (rarely) to solve this..however, just now, i went to restart my phone and it would not let me type in my password to unlock my phone.. so i turned it off.. and turned it back on.. and it got stuck for minutes (never changed) on the apple logo....so, i pressed the off button and menu button and cold stopped it or whatever.. and restarted it.. and same thing.. stuck on the apple button...finally, i just plugged the danged thing into my laptop and it started up and started synching..anyone had this problem???? thoughts on a solution other than restoring my phone and then recovering from a backup???grrrrrrrrrrr... Hi All,Am moving to the US in Aug 09 and was wanting to purchase an iphone, however I can see throught the forums that this will mean I am locked to AT&T for at least 2 years and even after that I may not be able to get them to unlock the phone when I return to Aus. What is my best option the guy in the in the Apple store suggested I buy a phone upright here and then I have to spend $130 to get it unlocked by apple. Then I have to find a carrier in the States that has Sim Cards - is this possible? vibration problem iphone 3G

I have a 16gb white iphone 3G that I got about a week ago. Today when I switched on the vibration, it made a noise that was louder than normal and it hardly vibrated at all. The sound is scratchy and sounds like something is rubbing. Ive read some other stories like mine and when I try holding the phone facing any direction, including upside down, it still makes the same noise. Should I bring my iphone to an ATT store or contact apple directly? There is no Apple store in the area where I live.Also, Ive been having a problem with the phone going to my recent or favorite phone contacts sometimes when after sliding to unlock-which was not the last item I had open. Other times Ill be using an app and seemingly randomly it opens featured apps in the app store. Loss of signal at 20 Battery iphone 3G

Hello all,I have a very unique problem with my 3g iphone. I actually thought all iPhones did this until it really became an annoyance and I started asking around about it, and it seems to only be affecting me. Anyway, anytime my battery nears 20 %, and anything below, I loose the signal on my phone until I touch it again. For example...My battery will hit the 20 % mark, Ill get the warning message. Ill send somebody a text message, 45 minutes will go by and I wont get a reply. Ill pick up my phone to see if the message sent. I unlock the phone, and it freezes for just an instant. Then, the signal, that was once showing full, drops to nothing (no edge, wifi, bars, nothing) then fills back up in a few seconds and I will receive a voicemail, 3 text messages and emails. Ill set the phone down again, and it continues to happen every time the phone goes idle for more than like 10 or 15 minutes, ONLY when the battery is below 20 % and once the phone is charged, it stops until it drops again. I had the original iphone since launch, and I bought the 3g the day it came out, so I know Im not doing something wrong.i send it for service to greek vodafone and they dont see the problem.I need a replacement , right?

iphone tells me restore needed but wont connect to itunes

Hi guys,Had my phone about a month a so and is running on the latest OS.Last night, for no apparent reason, my phone flashed up a message saying i needed to connect to itunes and could only make emergency calls. This question has probably been asked a gazillion times.. buuut.. after calling 17 different Apple numbers and getting no help, or anyone who speaks english, maybe some one here can offer some great help! (PLEASEEE!!!)I recently moved to Mexico. Had my iphone with ATT back in the States, but I cancelled my service since I was moving. TelCel is the iphone carrier here in Mexico, however they say they cant unlock my phone.A guy in a authorized seller says he would ship it to Monterrey, Mexico, directly to Apple and they would unlock it and send it back. the whole process would take 4-5 days, and he would charge me $95. He said its all legal, and Apple approved. It sounded like a load of BS to me...My iphone is still under warranty as it is only 3 months old! how can I unlock it?Can Apple unlock it for me?Anyone with any suggestions! iphone like sleeping beauty

Hello fellow iphone users and apple addicts.First things first: As you might have noticed right from the beginning, Im no native english speaker.Im from germany so please be patient with me Lets dive right into my problem:I love my iphone but since, lets say 2-3 months its behavior is really strange:In 1 of 3 cases (33%) it wouldnt wake up after I put it in sleep mode (what kinda language am I posting in? sorry for that sentence).So I press the Lock-Button and it goes into sleep mode. Very often (independently if it plays music/podcasts) it isnt reacting when i press either lock or home button.When music is playing it is playing without any problems in sleep mode though I cant wake it up!The only posibilities I have is either to sleep-home-button it (restart) or to call my phone.If I call it, its like it does every commands i did before in 1 action.So for example if I pressed before home and sleep button several times (lets say 3) and I call myself it is blinking white, doing screenshots and having them stored in camera roll.Or when Im switching the mute-button and then call it, it shows this bell-icon.And every of these actions at the same time.And the other weird thing: When I call myself, the iphone mostly dont even take the call. The caller gets my mailbox right away and I just get my unlock-slider. Just in a few cases I can answer the call.When I dont answer the call (if I get the ability to do so), the iphone is after that still unawake-able.But if I unlock it after calling me, it is fully reliable, no problems while using it (while its awake, sure).I restored it via iTunes several times till now (i guess at least 5).I have no jailbreak and Ive never jailbroken my phone.And as I called Apple Germany because of that Problem i got a completely new iphone!I usually have 500mb to 1,5gb free space but I even tried with more, no improvement.Its horrible, you are afraid all the time if the iphone wakes up or if its not!And it is not reliable at all. the restore screen for 3.0 beta has locked me out of my phone. apparently my beta 3.0 4 has expired so i have beta 3.0 5 ready to update to but itunes tells me i need to unlock my phone with the passcode which i would do but i cant even get to the passcode screen. help please! macbook pro Mac OS X (10.5.6) 2.5 ghz

phone locked emergency only iphone

i have a passcode on my iphone and right now im tyring to use my iphone for my partys music but i cant go into my music in my iphone because it is locked and wont let me get into itunes with it. I cant unlock it because it asks for a passcode and i cant type it in because it says emergency calls only. how can i get past that and why is it only available for emergency calls? it was fine this morning
