Acknowledge text without unlocking phone iPhone

New iPhone user here... Sorry if this has been answered before but I didnt find anything in the archives.Im wondering if theres a way to acknowledge a new text message without having to unlock the phone and go into the SMS screen. Frequently very slow to wake up iPhone 3G

Hi,my 3G, very frequently is very slow to wakeup from sleep. I also observed, that its slow when I need to give the passcode to unlock it but, if I remove the passcode, it works as normal. OK i just bought an i-phone, my first apple device. Now i think its a nice device, but its still missing key features found in many other mobile phones for years. I find it dissapointing, this device COULD be the greatest phone ever but its missing these features apple!!!1. To add a ring tone you need to be extremely copmputer literate, unless you want to pay for it. Which i dont cuz i already have 5000 songs that i can use as ringtones. On all my nokias for the past 4 years ive been able to set multiple formats as ring tones WITHIN THE PHONE!! not on my computer.2. Message tones cant even be changed to one of your songs just the apple supplied ones. Again, something ive been able to do for years on nokias. You have to jailbreak it just to do this, and im not keen to get a brick so this is out of the question for me.3. I cant change themes on it, the background isnt really a background cuz i only get to see it when i unlock the device? 4. Bluetooth on this thing might as well be taken out, if i cant connect to other phones what good is it? The i-phone resembles the i-pod too much in that it can only be synced to one PC at a time, apple is worried about copyright infrigement, but there could be a programming restriction on what can and cant be sent via bluetooth so who cares? Really? Now sending photos to someone standing 2 feet from me costs me money?5. I now realise how the jailbreaking term has come about, cuz when you use one of these devices you feel held back, restricted with rules and regulations. Just like a jail.Ill give this device a 5/10. I recently bought a USED iPhone 3G from ebay. I got it for a very cheap price, because it was from Canada and it was locked to Rogers. When It arrived, I inserted my AT&T SIM card into the iPhone and it said something like this: The SIM card inserted into this iPhone does not appear to be supported. And then it says to put in the SIM card that came with the phone to activate it, etc...I then Jailbroke it and unlocked it so that I could use it for myself with AT&T, but it does not work. It give me the this SIM card is not compatible message every time I put my sim card in. I think I may have upgraded the baseband and permanently lock my iPhone.Is there any way I can HARD-Restore it or something to get it to work with AT&T and unlock it from rogers wireless? I have called Rogers and they said it needs to be unlocked. I think Apple should be able to wipe it clean somehow and restore it to be used with AT&T.Thanks in advance iPhone iPhone OS 3.1.2

Iphone data roaming-option not working urgent please help

I am going on a long holiday (3months) to various countries from Canada and I will be using my phone only for the first leg of the journey for 15 days just to keep in touch with my family to say Im safe and all. I dont want to unlock or jailbreak my phone.Is there a way to disable the 3G to avoid roaming charges ( Since I am on a contract I cant ask my provider to block it) I turn on the data roaming option but the 3G sign is still shown and its still connecting to the networkIs there any other way iPhone OS 3.0.1

Other category filling up phone constantly finicky. iPhone 3G

Im having loads of problems with my iPhone 3G and Im not sure if they are related or not. Note: I have already reset the phone and restored it from a backup. The problem is that the phone is filling up with the other category when I check it in iTunes. When I reset from factory settings, it removed this other category, but it slowly built back up and filled up the phone so I cant sync it anymore.iPhone is incredibly slow, sometimes wont come out of sleep mode.Constantly locks up (screen goes black or just freezes) during calls and application usage.Periodically prompts me for a login to a shared iDisk calendar. Will go days without doing this, then start doing it every time I unlock it. Sometimes randomly during calls or app usage. This calendar is not password protected.I visited the Apple store today where they instructed me to wipe the phone AGAIN and instead of restoring from backup, just resync it with the phone. He says that the problem could be an app Im using thats filling up the other category. The apps I have installed are: UrbanSpoon, Slacker, Pandora, Shazam, AIM, PhoneFlicks, CoinToss, Wikipanion, Yelp, AllRecipes, Banking, Booworm, DoodleJump, Vampires, Papaya Farm, Flick Fishing, FlightControl, XRayFX PRO, Zippo Lighter, WobbleLite, Photoswap, Koi Pond, Banner Free, StoneLoops!, WildWest, Paper Toss, NPR News, I Am T-Pain, and Zombie Pizza. Cant answer phone or unlock to read text messages since upgrading to 3.1.2 iPhone

Ever since I upgraded my iPhone 3G to OS 3.1.2 I find I cannot slide to answer calls or slide to view text messages.When my phone is asleep (screen off) and either someone calls me or I receive a text, I get the usual wallpaper screen with either the blue box showing me whos sent a text or the indication of whos calling. However when I try to slide the bar at the bottom to either view the text message or answer the phone, it is totally unresponsive.The only way to make it respond is to put the display to sleep (press the lock button on the top of the phone) and wake it up again (press the home button), then the slider will work. This obviously is totally unacceptable when someones phoning, as it hangs up on them, and I then have to call them back, which on PAYG isnt ideal.How can I fix this? I dont believe I have an older version of the iPhone OS on my computer as I got a new MBP after I last upgraded the OS (I think I have a backup of the phone done just before I upgraded). 15" Unibody MacBook Pro, iPhone 3G iPhone OS 3.1.2

iPhone slugish when coming out of auto-lock 3G

My iPhone 3G has the most recent firmware; and I just got it from AT&T.The problem I am having is that it is slugish when it is trying to unlock from auto lock. As my finger moves the slip switch from left to right the switch freezes half way through, a few seconds later it will finish the motion on its own and unlock. Why this happening calls not coming through properly. iPhone

I have done a few searches on google. but i have found nothing that really answers my problem. everything is from the 2.0/2.1/2.2 era.Ok, My problem:1. When someone calls me, sometimes my phone plays ball and rings as it should do. Other times, like when my mum rang before, it doesnt ring, vibrate, display a message on the screen, or say Mum. four missed calls when i go to unlock it. All it does is log an entry in my phone app, the missed calls are there but why is it not ringing?2. This has also happened a few times, and i had forgotten about this issue until i read it on an old forum, and it appears related to prob 1. When i try to send an SMS it doesnt always work, 8 times out of 10 it does. but it is still happening, i get a little red circle with an exclamation mark inside it.3. When i send an SMS and it works, people report getting several copies of them. this is also related to the other probs. It also sometimes has happened to me, i have received dupe copies of a message someone only sent once. white screen reset doesnt fix restore doesnt fix no logo at boot iPhone 3G

Hi guys,Wondering if anyone can help me with this issue. Ive read a bit about the iphones white screen of death, which, according to forum posts, can usually be fixed by a hard reset or an iTunes restore. My iPhone 3G also shows just a white screen but neither a hard reset nor a full restore has fixed it. I can connect my phone to iTunes and I can happily read all my data. iTunes had no problem restoring the phone and I upgraded to the latest firmware. I can even interact with the phone by touching the screen (e.g. I hear the unlock click when I slide my finger along the bottom of the screen) but the screen remains white. It seems the phone is there, but the screen is just completely useless. I havent seen anything other than the white screen since this issue arose yesterday, not even the logo during reset or during restore.Can anyone help or recommend a solution?Cheers,Alex 3G iPhone OS 3.1.2

So I was wondering if the internet geniuses had any good/cheap ways for me to get my iPhone fixed/replaced.To be fair to my iPhone (the love of my life), I have treated it pretty harshly, dropping it a few times onto cement, spilling water on it, drop kicking it into a wall on accident (dont ask). So basically the lock/unlock button the far top right of my phone has ceased to function any more unless I press both sides of the iPhone together and press the button really hard.Its getting to be obnoxious, since the only way for me to reset my phone is to wait till it runs out of batteries since it is impossible to hold the lock button down for 10 seconds...SO is there any possible way to get Apple to fix this iPhone, trade it in, refurbish it, sell me a new one for cheap???Any help is appreciated gentlemen and gentleladies,Saludos.akEdit: p.s. iPhone 3G constantly locks for no reason

Hey!Ive been Googling this issue for ages but still cant find anything that could fix my issue... hope someone can help me!I have an iPhone 3G on Virgin Mobile Australia. Im 14 months into my 24 month contract and I booked a holiday back to UK (British citizen living in Australia as I married an Aussie girl) so I asked Virgin to unlock my phone so I could use a pre-pay SIM in the UK. They duly obliged and when I plugged my iPhone into iTunes with a Vodafone UK SIM, the message came up Congratulations your iPhone has been unlocked. The problem is that randomly with the new SIM, the iPhone wants to be plugged back into iTunes to be unlocked again and again... its happened 18 times in the last seven days that Ive been in the UK. Whenever the battery gets too low, or when Safari decides to crash, or even just without warning, that Itunes and cable screen appears with different SIM detected and I cant use the phone at all. Okay so I tried to do a search and couldnt find the information before, but I know this topic has to have been discussed before. =/ If you look at the iPhone in the direct sunlight you can see 3 hidden LEDs behind the glass next to the ear piece speaker.Do we know if Apple has any intention of making them active anytime soon for use of a message indicator??? Moved to UK from US iPhone 3G

I just moved to the UK and brought my iPhone 3G with me. AT&T has been kind enough to let me get out of the early termination fees and closed my US account. Now my question is can i start using it in the UK with the O2 carrier. I can see that apple lets some countries unlock the iPhone but not US and UK. 3.1 Random Bugs in software 3G iPhone

Hi,dont know if anyone else has had this problem but its only occured since updating to 3.1. Sometimes, (only maybe 1 once.twice a day) i cannot wake my device up from standby. i press the on/off key, nothing, press the home key, nothing. after a few minutes the phone wakes up and i see my wallpaper and slide to unlock (which is disabled when i try to swipe) then it disapperrs again and the only way i can get back into the phone is by doing the two button soft reboot press. also i have noticed random but less frequent crashes of the device. i am also having major issues like other users with battery performance.i have tried everything from a restore with backup to restore as new iphone, restore on another copy of itunes, another usb port.......the phone itself works perfect, but for these small niggles. iphone 3g o2 Windows XP

I have an iPhone 3G on18 month contract with Movistar Spain.I was told both by the shop and customer services that I can have it unlocked legally by them after one year has expired. Although I am happy to stay with Movistar when I am in Spain I would like to be able to use a UK SIM when I am in the UK. NEW ISSUES iPhone 3G

Fortunately, I have not downloaded the 3.1 update for the iphone. I am however, experiencing new issues. In the past 3 weeks, the iphone has had technical glitches off and on such as I cannot unlock the phone with the slide to unlock feature. I drop calls for no reason when I have 5 full bars. Sometimes I am unable to disconnect the phone call. It appears that the phone has gone to sleep and I cannot wake it up until the person I am speaking with hangs up the phone. Then the globe appears and the phone is fine. Since I have not downloaded the new update, this has nothing to do with that. Are there other reasons this may be occurring. Power Problems iPhone 3G

Sorry if this is already been posted if so i would be greatful to be directed to the page.anyway, ive had my iphone 3g for a little under a year and recently about 2 times a day when i go to turn it on (out of standby into the swipe to unlock screen the phone it just doesnt turn on, when i plug my charger in nothing happens. in the last month my iphone has become very unreliable and drives me insanei set 1 alarm or multipul for once off or repeating days and it just wont go off untill i slide to unlock i have tried resetting it and it will work once if im luckythere has to be a fix... iPhone OS 3.0

I followed the steps to unlock my Iphone 3g 3.0I used redsn0w and installed Cyndia and icy. however when I add in sources the http://repo666.ultrasn0w.com<<< I get this message<<<"Didnot find repository" The indicated repository couldnot be found. this could be because you are trying to add a legacy Installer repository (these are not supported). Also, this interference is only capable of working with exact repository URLs. If you host a repository and are having issues please contact the author of Cyndia with any questions you have...PLEASE HELP

I cannot unlock my iphone-Cydia error please help 3G

HiI have iPhone 3G. I stupidly updated to version 3.1 so my phone was no longer jailbroken and unlocked so I downgraded back to version 3.0.1 and jailbroke the iphone. I then tried unlocking my iphone by installing UltraSn0w but everytime I get the messagehttp://www.ispaziorepo.com netDB: Open nodename nor servname provided, or not known.Can anyone please let me know what this message mean and if the server is down when it would be back up. Updated iPhone 3G to 3.1 without S

I recently posted a thread asking why my iPhone 3G is now frozen in DFU mode. I made a call to Apple customer service and it turns out that it is because I updated it without a SIM card. The customer service representative explained that I could either insert the original SIM card to possibly unlock the phone, or go to AT&T start a new service to reactivate the phone. I bought the phone from my brother, who went through AT&T, after he bought his new iPhone. He took his old SIM, because I told him that I intended to use it as an iPod Touch. He lives out of state, and refuses to send me the card. I also cant start a new service with AT&T because I just recently signed a 2 year contract with Verizon. So now I am stuck with a completely useless iPhone. Does anyone know how I might be able to go about fixing this at all? iPhone 3G

Phone stuck locked and iPod crashing after 3.1 iPhone

Has anyone else been having this problem? My iPod app crashed around 6 or 7 times today.Also when I lock my phone, with wont unlock. It is completely unresponsive to the home button or the wake buttom being pressed. The only way to get the phone back on is to hold both buttons and do a full reset, which is annoying.Anyone else? Email Badge Light Sensor Bugs Since 3.1 Upgrade iPhone 3G

I have installed the iPhone 3.1 software to my iPhone 3G. Since then, I notice two things that could be bugs:(1) Sometimes, I hear the alert of a new email, but there is no badge on my email icon. I have to open the mail and then select Load messages in order for it to appear.(2) I awakened my iPhone outdoors in bright sunlight. The displays brightness wasnt adjusted-----it looked as if I was still indoors and was extremely hard to see. I had to lock the phone and unlock a few times for it to properly adjust.Has anyone else had the aforementioned issues since the 3.1 update? I have never jailbroken my phone. Thanks in advance.

Bluetooth headset iPhone

If anyone at Apple is reading this, can you please talk to your developers and ask them to produce the necessary software tweak to allow the voice dialling capabilities of my Bluetooth headset to be used with the iPhone? As things stand at present, the iPhone is too dangerous to use in a car. To receive a call, I can press a button on my headset and the call is connected. That is good. To make a call, I need to swipe the screen then key in my pin code to unlock. I then have to press and hold the button to activate handsfree voice dialling. I then have to shout the name that I want to call, over the road noise.As you can easily see, there are far too many steps that are necessary to make a call. FIX iPhone restarts when connected to PC throw USB cable

I am having a windows vista 32 bit. My iphone was working quite well till yesterday. i found my iphone 3G OS 3.0 restarting when I conncet it to the pc....and when it doesnt restart it seems that the iphone is processing something!!! the brighting sign which comes over the slide to unlock becomes very slow and not smoothly moving.....it takes some time of that processing and then it becomes ok or it restarts....i unistalled the itunes and intalled again...but didnt help.i uninstalled the iphone driver (under portble drivers and under USB connectors) and then installed the driver under (c:/program files/common files/apple --> in subfolder youll find the drivers).The mobile is not restarting now and it doesnt process anything....but another problem appeared .... now theres no hard drive anymore for my iphone....i mean that drive whih contains the pictures....so i couldnt copy my captured pictures now.... its fast, itunes read it....but i couldnt copy my pictures:(Then I found the fix The problem has been solved simply by uninstalling itunes, apple automatic updater, and mobile device support. then restarting my vista pc, then install the latest itunes which will download the last mentioned 3 items in one shot. Restart your pc....the mobile is not processing as before, not restarting and the portable device is there; can simply copy my pictures.....life is great now with my iphone and fixed windows Thanks,Gano hp iPhone OS 3.0 Windows Vista 32

iPhone 3.0.1-Slide to unlock 3G

Hi,For some reason, over the last couple of weeks I have been encountering an increasing number of problems with my iPhone freezing.When I wake it up from sleep mode and attempt to use the slider to unlock the phone, the screen is un-responsive. Normally toggling the phone on and off fixes the issue which suggests to me that this is a software issue. I have used the calculator after a freeze like this (as it allows me to test the whole screen) and the thing works perfectly.Sometimes it will let me slide to unlock and then freeze when I try to enter my 4 digit pin number. On one occasion it would not let me slide the slider to answer a call! This is a pretty pathetic problem to be having on a such an expensive piece of kit and to be honest, I am less than impressed... a phone that you cant receive calls on, is at best useless to me.My phone was a xmas present from family December 2008, is not jailbroken and is stock in every way. I have no 3rd party apps running on it. I am also running the most up to date version of the iPhone software. Does anyone have any suggestions to fix this issue or know when Apple will pull their fingers out from their behind and fix the darn thing? This is getting silly now.
