Hi,I have placed my request for the carrier unlock in. They say it takes up to 10 days and I will have to restore my phone in iTunes after that. Then I will get a message saying the phone is no longer locked to any carrier. How do I know when the update is ready for my phone? Do I get a message in iTunes or should I restore every day for the next 10 days? MacBook Pro 2.2GHz Mac OS X (10.5.4) iPhone 3G
I have an iPhone 4 on a monthly contract in the UK with o2. My 3GS was unlocked without a problem, however o2 tell me that they cant/wont unlock my iPhone 4.I asked them why they wont (as I understand that EU legislation forbids enforced locking) and they told me that Apple have said that they arent allowed to unlock iPhone 4s. They said that they could do the 3GS, but Apple wont let them do the 4s.Does this seem right?! iMac Mac OS X (10.5.6)
Hi Guys! Just received my Iphone 4 IOS 4.0.2 on O2 Pay&Go (locked), which I ordered before found out that I will have to leave Uk for 1 year. Whats more, I was so frustrated when I found out that there is no currently official unlock for Iphone 4.So, Could anybody help me: Is there gonna be an official unlock from O2 in the nearest future?Or, could I at least jailbreak my Iphone 4? Sincerely,Andrii. Mac Book air iOS 4
Hi there,My 2 week old iPhone 4 OS 4.0.2 is acting up. Here is what often happen when I am typing a text message:Starts typing a lot of random letters... Hits the send button so it sends the random text to the recipient.. Then enters another conversation, typing more random text and sends.. And it all happens very fast. And sometimes when attempting to unlock the home screen, I try to hit 6, and it will enter 3333 - wrong code...What is the deal? Software upgrade or should I have it replaced? It has never been jailbroken or anything like that.Appreciate your input on this! iPhone 4 iOS 4 4.0.2
There is a strange and very annoying bug in iOS 4 (4, 4.0.1 and 4.0.2); every once in while all third party apps including their data get deleted from the iPhone. This happens WITHOUT any user interaction, apparently random and not during sync. The iPhone just rests on the desk unused, then I pick it up again, unlock the screen and find out that all 3rd party apps are gone. The original Apple apps including their data are just fine. Very strange and very annoying. Did someone else suffer from this problem? I live in DC, I bought a new iphone 4 with no contract in the US. Because I work with an airline company I fly a lot to my home country Belgium. When Im here I want to use my Belgian SIM-card with the iPhone to avoid unexpected costs. Is this possible? Can Apple unlock my phone if needed? iphone 4 iOS 4
I recently purchased a non-contract iPhone 4 from Apple in DC expecting to have an unlocked version of the phone since I live overseas and plan to use local carriers. To my surprise, the non-contract iPhone 4 is locked and I am not able to use the phone features (making calls). Can Apple send me a carrier unlock since that is what I have paid extra for, a non-contract version. MacBook Pro 15 Mac OS X (10.6.4) iPhone 4
My iPhone 3G was working perfectly until a few hours ago when the bottom of the touchscreen suddenly went dead. I was playing games on it with absolutely no issues, then set it down and of course it locked. I went to unlock it a while later and nothing happened. The first thing I tried was rebooting it, which is how I found out the TOP of the screen works since the slide to power off is at the top, and worked fine, but I couldnt cancel since thats at the bottom. I have also already tried restoring it with no luck.I know this is a long shot because I have been all over the internet hoping for a fix but I figured it couldnt hurt to ask if anyone has any other ideas. This is my only phone and its completely useless. To top it off my warranty ended earlier this month. If it comes down to having to pay for a repair, it might just be cheaper for me to upgrade to a completely different phone. I love my iPhone though and it would really stink to have to do that! iPhone 3G iOS 4
Hey everyone,I just have a quick question. I was wondering what the resolution of the screen is in the middle section. By the middle section, I mean the section in the center of the lock screen below the darkened part at the top that shows the time and above the darkened part at the bottom that has the unlock slidebar. If anyone knows itd be really helpful. iPhone 4 iOS 4
Hi Support (and fellow users)I am trying to unlock on iPhone 3G which I purchased two years ago on a bill pay account with o2 Ireland. About a year ago I upgraded to an iPhone 3GS also purchased on my bill pay account with o2 Ireland - this has been successfully unlocked. Approximately a week ago I ported to Vodafone Ireland and purchased an iPhone 4 on bill pay. Just before porting to Vodafone Ireland I reqeusted that o2 Ireland unlock my iPhone 3G and received an sms message from o2 Ireland saying o2 have submitted your unlock reqeust for iPhone IMEI xxx to Apple. Apple should unlock the devide via iTunes within the next two weeks. o2. My previous unlock expreience on the 3GS took approximately 24 hours so after a few days I plugged in my 3G to see if there was any movement from Apple. However, when I plug it in it just says Awaiting activiation, this may take some time. I have tried it with a Vodafone sim card but it wont work. I am wondering if my iPhone 3G has been blocked by Apple perhaps?Any advice? Dell Inspiron 6000 Windows XP
I have a question. When I bought an iphone 4 I was told that it would be unlocked and I could take it internationally and use it. When I went to india and tried to use a sim there for my iphone I was uncapable to do so. Do I have to unlock it myself somehow, as someone has told me or would that be illegal if the phone is jail broken? Thanks Iphone 4
ok so i just bought my iphone4 about 4 days ago and it works like a charm. until i noticed that whenever i get a message even when its on the lock screen, the screen doesnt turn off until i unlock the phone. i figured that this is a problem since sometimes i leave my phone for a long time then when i come back to it, the screen is on and 30% of my battery is drained. the screen does dim and does auto lock from the springboard so thats not a problem. any suggestions? iphone4 Windows 7
I think that there might be a problem with the digitizer? since the screen shuts off:1. If plugged into the computer when I move the phone around2. If not plugged in, random times when its just sitting there or when moved around. The phone isnt shutting off, just the screen is going off and i have to slide to unlock. What could the problem be? Ive had this problem before, but I think it was something in the headphone jack that was the problem. Sometimes when I removed the headphones, the phone still thought the headphones were plugged in and behaved in that way. Ive had to plug the headphones in, and removed them again to rectify the situation. Now, I can play music through the speakers, but the slide to unlock, the turn-off screen, message alert, and even incoming calls dont make any sound, only music from the iPod does. I havent upgraded the OS for many months, and without any updates for such a long time, Im worried that this bug might be a hardware issue.Has anyone heard of this problem before? Ive tried turning it off and on again (re: The IT Crowd). How can it be fixed? iPhone 3G Other OS Ubuntu Linux
Hi. The iOS 4 fixed the sluggishness when you slide it to unlock the screen but now the Home button has to be pressed for about a second for the iPhone 3G to respond. Anyone has the same problem? Whats the solution? Thanks in advance.Gbu. Mac OS X (10.6.4)
Suddenly my screen has zoomed itself in to max zoom and the screen no longer responds to my touches to zoom it back out. I can manage to make the screen wiggle a little left or right, but not up or down. I tried to manually reset the phone (sleep/home button pressed for 10 seconds) and now the unlock screen is zoomed in so far I cannot access the slide to unlock feature. This is a 4 and is about two weeks old.How can I get my screen zoomed back out so I can at least unlock the phone to answer calls? PC Windows XP
Hi,My new iPhone 4 is 2 days old and as of this afternoon my phone has been making a buzzing noise. This noise happens when I lock it and unlock it, also when I am typing on the Internet.Has anyone heard about this? any ideas of what I should do?CheersB
so i have had an iphone 3g for almost a year and a half or so since its launch pretty much.its not unlocked, its still on vodafone and has been working fine so far..i updated to the new ios last month and things seemed to really slow down and werent working too well.today a strange thing has happened-i received a call, spoke for a short bit and then cut the cal and went back to work. Seems now my phone wont start up again, the unlock button doesnt work the home button doesnt work and neither does flipping between silent and general settings.the screen just doesnt light up.even when trying to switch off nothing works.apparantly people have been trying to call me and the call does ring on their end however i have no clue coz the phone is not ringing,no texts nothing, just sitting like an idle box...so is this a software issue related to the ios4 or a hardware issue?please advise and if there is any way i can recover my data?
at least for about 25 minutes?I have gotten used to resetting the phone every few days to remedy the lagginess issues I have been having since the 3g upgrade to ios4, and a reset always takes care of it. But what is going on when it is stuck on the reset screen? There was also a strange happening where the touch screen refused to work, the unlock slider was not functioning and another reset took care of it!do ANY Apple marketing people look at this feedback? I am picturing Steve Jobs reading some of the negative feedback over his crystal ball with a sinister laugh knowing that people need to buy an iphone 4. Mac Pro
okay...im sure there a lot of topics on this, but i cant find anything is fixing the issue. i traded my 32gb ipod for a 16gb iphone 3G. i traded it mainly because i wanted to unlock it to t-mobile. i wanted to updated it to ios4 so i wouldnt have to keep unlocking it after each iphone/ipod update. so i updated it, and it went into recovery mode. i tried putting it into dfu mode, and its stuck in recovery mode. ive tried restoring it and it just loops back into recovery mode. ive tried the whole hold down the both buttons and release the sleep button but hold the home button until this happens thing. im starting to get really frustrated. i tried uninstalling itunes and reinstalling itunes and the same thing happens. NOW.... im getting an error that says that itunes cannot recognize this iphone because of an unknown error. do i need to downgrade os? how do i do that? i just need to be able to get it out of recovery mode so i can unlock it. any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! thanks in advance! mac g4 Mac OS X (10.4.11)
Hi,my iphone 3GS upgraded to 4.01 OS has the same problem of many other phones , the message reported in the subject. With this message the phone hasnt audio speakers and can only be used with headphones or similarAfter reading many many similar post in Italy and in this Discussione Forum I made some test.First at all I have to say that my phone got wet during a traking trip on the mountain this summer! Peaty! Now I know that there is a red spot that mark the phone to prevent Apple to fix problems due to customer, and this is rightBut I made some test 1.Using the voice recorder that has a control that can select speaker or headphones, if you select speaker the audio goes, even with the message, and if you use another application in multitasking way this goes even too2.If you select this second application alone, it doesnt go.3.When you unlock the phone the volume control goes but after a few seconds it desappear. When the volume control is on the display the audio goes but till the message pop up.All those test show us that the hardware is ok but is the software that treats some internal trigger in a bad wayI ask to Apple an help to solve this problem otherwise coustomer will be unable to use iphone in a right way with a marketing damage even for Apple itself Acer X50G Windows Vista
Greetings,Is it possible to lock the SIM card on the iPhone after I have unlocked it? Say I want to make a call, I unlock the SIM, make the call and would like to lock the SIM back. Is it doable? (currently, I switch the iPhone off and restart it, but its not great). Also, Im experiencing annoying symptoms with my iPhone. When someone calls me, most of the time my iPhone does not react and the call is dropped to the voiceover box. Also, at the same time, SMS sent to me are ignored (I dont receive them). Only when I call someone myself or send a SMS will I receive the SMS ones sent to me and get notifications that I missed some calls. Its somehow like if my iPhone was connecting to the network only when I send something from it (some minutes after I sent my SMS or make my call, it still works, but fail again soon). All this happens even when the signal strength is at its maximum.Any hint greatly welcome! MacBook Pro Mac OS X (10.4.11)
it looks like the slot where you switch SIM card is a bit damaged too since I got another card stuck and it took me an hour too take out. Then I updated the phone and got it locked, and on ITunes it says that the SIM card inserted is not supported, so I sent it to the store and told them to fix it, they fixed it, gonna get it back tomorrow and Im gonna get a case for it, do you think its still going to work like a brand new iPhone? And why cant I update? And if I dont update, does the Apps update by itself? cuz Im afraid if the phone gets locked again.P.S: All they did was unlock the phone, they didnt do anything else besides that.Message was edited by: mingdatang ASUS Windows Vista

It goes into sleepstandby when I press the button but around 15 - 20 seconds later thescreen flashes and the slide to unlock screen shows. after 10 seconds it goes back into sleep mode. This cycle keeps repeating and its Killing my battery lifeIve factory restored it, Turned off push and fetch functions on it, deleted all the apps, turned it on and off and even downgraded down from iOS 4 Windos Vista iPhone OS 3.1.3
My iPhone 3G seems to be having a problem where I can be having a text conversation with someone, and out of the blue, I will stop receiving text messages from them. I will go to check the phone, and theres no message, so I unlock it and go to type another reply to the person Im texting, and then after I type around three characters or so, all of a sudden I will get a text back from them, and then possibly another one asking me why Im not replying... I know for a fact that I have reception the whole time, because I was checking every minute or so. It would seem if I leave the phone unlocked, then I tend to get messages more frequently, but otherwise, its becoming very unreliable on trusting my iPhone to actually receive messages straight away.I am on iOS 4.0.1, and apart from this Ive had only one other issue with it, but that was fixed by doing a restore. This issue seems to continue, however. Any suggestions on what to do? iPhone 3G Windows 7

I was having horrible problems with my fairly new 3G iPhone since I upgraded to OS4. Apps would take several seconds to launch; apps would crash. The last straw was when I tried to answer an important incoming phone call, and the slide to unlock ignored me!!!Anyway, here is what I did:1) Did a backup of the iPhone using iTunes2) Did a restore of the iPhone (using the backup I made in step #1)3) Did a reset (Settings > General > Reset > Reset All Settings)When the iPhone restarted, everything is fast again. The only thing I had to do was re-enter my wireless network settings.I think Im going to avoid the Folders feature of OS 4 (where you can arrange apps into folders). Im not sure if that is what caused the problem, but I can live without it, and I dont want to take any chances. The iPhone is working great again.Anyway, I hope this helps. My iphone is running 4.0.1 firmware and Im having a problem with the locking feature, which has never happened before. When I press the lock button at the top of the phone, It locks like its supposed to but then around 10-15 seconds later the screen flashes up and show the slide to unlock screen. if I leave it for a while( around 20 seconds) it locks back again. but then the problem repeats it self over and over again. Its seriously killing the battery life.Ive tried turning the phone on and off, resetting the settings and even did a factory restore but it still keeps happening.Id really appreciate some help~Thanks Windos Vista iOS 4
I have just upgraded to 4.1. Since the upgrade everything is LARGE. it looks as if I was reading an article on the web and made the text large, however everything is enlarged. Example-the battery icon when you are charging-it doesnt fit all the way on the screen. I have to forcibly drag screen yo just to get to the unlock slide. All screens are this way. A few months ago I dropped my phone and shattered the screen, completely my fault so I went to the nearest apple store about an hour away and had the screen replaced for about $250. One of the techs there suggested I get a case for it to prevent it from happening again which I agreed was a good idea. The recommended case was almost like a hard plastic on the outside with a softer rubber on the inside and he claimed he used the same one. I was happy with it and purchased it.Just recently I decided to take it out of the case because it just felt too bulky in my pocket and ever since Ive been having problems. It seems the case has pushed the power button of my phone in too far and now the screen will randomly turn on or off or bring up the slide to power off message. It also must have pushed in the volume buttons because 9 times out of 10 when I unlock the phone the volume will go all the way up or all the way down and wont let me change it. The buttons are noticeably pushed in on my phone compared to the iPhones of other people I know.Yesterday I contacted my service provider (Rogers) and explained the situation to which they responded with We cant deal with iPhones you have to speak to Apple and also said that I had to wait an extra year for a hardware upgrade because it was a smart phone. Fair enough I suppose, it wasnt them that recommended the case.Today I call Apple, expecting the good customer service I usually get. Now Im told that since it is 72 days out of warranty I have to pay for a replacement even though the case was recommended to me at an Apple store (Sherway Gardens to be exact). The only option they gave that wasnt going to cost an arm and a leg was restoring the phone via iTunes which clearly didnt solve my issue due to it being hardware related and not software.Sorry for the long story but if anyone has any advice please feel free to share. I rely on receiving phone calls and emails on this everyday and its pretty difficult to hear someone with no volume or to respond to an email when the volume icon is covering your screen. Thanks,Jamie Thorpe iPhone 3G

Hi,I just got an iPhone 4 and while I had this same issue with my iPhone 3G, I seem to be having it more often with the new phone. When my phone rings, or if I receive a text message, if I try to slide to unlock the phone, the slider becomes unresponsive. This means that I often cannot answer the phone while it is ringing.Once the ringing stops, or, after receiving a text message, once the screen goes black again, then the slider resumes working normally. But for phone calls, thats too late because Ive missed the call.On every other occasion (ie - when the phone is not ringing or when I have not just received a text message) the slider works just fine. Only when I need it most, it becomes unresponsive. Ive tried restoring my phone and turning it off but none of these options has worked. The problem is not easy to replicate because its not consistent. Sometimes it works just fine and other times it doesnt work at all.Any ideas / thoughts?
Again and again, I see photos with iPhones that have background images like the Mac Desktop pics. I thought this was an OS4 feature, but obviously it isnt. I use an iPhone 3G with Vodafone India. As per new rules in India, operators are compulsorily required to push a service message that flashes balance on the phone screen after each outgoing call from a prepaid account. The iphone shows a dismiss button which returns the phone back to its previous screen. Now the problem is when I just lock the screen without dismissing the service message, upon return, i dismiss the message and then the screen goes blank. I lock and unlock the screen again and it shows the home screen but its not responsive. It tends to not recognize any gestures. I cant launch apps or browse through the home screens at all. I can lock and unlock it but not interact with it anymore than that. Resetting the phone (power + home button 5 secs, release power button, press home for another 5 secodns) doesnt fix it. The only option then is to restart the device.anyone knows a solution?a bug feedback has already been sent to Apple. MacBook 5,1 Mac OS X (10.6.4) iOS 4
I have the 16gb iphone 3g with the os4 software. This phone is given to me by my work and due to security requirements they have disabled my ability to turn off my turn passcode off (it is always grayed out and I would like to find a way to un-gray it out..)I know my passcode of course, which is a 6 digit number. They have also grayed out my ability to use a simple passcode and my erase data option is locked to on and grayed out as well. How can I unlock these features so I can choose to turn my passcode lock on/off as I desire. I think this has something to do with my exchange server since I use the phone to get my work emails... They want this passcode always on in case I ever lose my phone, nobody can access my phone but me. I find this micro-management style very very annoying and need a super smart iphone user to help me bypass my IT guys security settings....So I am asking how to bypass the settings my work has preset for me. How do I un-gray my ability to 1. Turn Passcode Off 2. Simple Passcode 3. Erase DataAny help with this is very appreciated. Thank you.Message was edited by: steiger99 Elitebook 8540w Windows 7
Well done, Mr Jobs. Really, well done. Not only have you produced a marvellous new generation of iPhone software, but you have also alienated a large percentage of the 3G population.A new version of operating software is now available, was the basic message I saw on iTunes. So, following the years of trust you have instilled in me with your products, I backed up my phone, downloaded and installed OS4.Beforehand, life was easy and uncomplicated: apps worked and general access to the 3G was quick - as and when needed. Now that OS4 has been installed:I have to do a power cycle each time I wish to use an app.The screen swipe unlock function locks in the right hand position.Safari forgets all its bookmarks, so I have to tap them in all over again.Opening Settings takes between 7 and 15 seconds.Mail locks up, requiring a power cycle. My very handy and modestly priced GPS app doesnt know which way is up.Those are just a fraction of the problems I now encounter.Well done.My service provider, although permitted by law, makes ocassional cold calls. These are normally to offer me a new phone package. It is against the law for them to sell me something detrimental: that is to say that whatever it is MUST be beneficial to the customer and not something that will be a cash-cow for themselves. If I do not like the offer, after a month I can revert back to my previous tarif.Apparently, you do not offer that to the thousands of previously happy 3G customers. From what I can understand, we have no other option but to purchase the iPhone 4. Although there exists 3rd party software to revert back to v3.1.3, you have not rubber-stamped an in-house version.Well done.Keep the customer, who paid for your ivory tower(s), well and truly under your thumb.I suppose, now that youre surrounded by yes men, youve forgotten what its like being a normal human being.Really, well done. All of a sudden out of nowhere when I unlock my 3GS phone there is a message waiting for me stating Password Incorrect, Enter Your Voicemail Password. Ok, so I followed the directions here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3406?viewlocale=en_US I got an iPhone 4, so my husband wants to use my 3G as an iPod touch. I activated it with my husbands AT&T SIM card from the cell phone that he uses. I set it up as a new iPhone. I have shut it off, turned it back on, etc. However, it will connect to my wifi network, show the symbol and everything yet no pages will load. It is extremely frustrating to follow the directions and have it not work. I have tried downgrading to the previous OS (3.13) and no luck. I tried jailbreaking-no luck. I cannot use an unlock because the baseband version does not have an unlock yet. Please advise if any of you have had similar issues. iPhone 3G iOS 4

For the past 2 years I have experienced ever declining performance and responsiveness of my iPhone 3G. Kind of the same experience ive had with every computer Ive ever owned. Ive come to just accept that as a fact of owning that kind of technology and that every once in a while youll have to wipe and start over if you want things to get better. However, my 3Gs performance towards the end of the pre-iOS era seemed to bottom out at a tolerable level. Not to be confused with acceptable.... but just tolerable. With iOS though, we have breached the tolerable threshold. My iPhone is actually quite a nusance to operate now. I kind of have to let out a sigh when I get a text or want to check my email because I know its just going to be an awful wait until i can accomplish anything on the device. Here are some examples of what im experiencing.unlock slider - 4 to 7 seconds of unresponsiveness before or after slidingText messaging - Probably the most maddening of all. ~8 seconds to start the app itself and 5 to 8 seconds of unresponsiveness after hitting the send button for a text message, barf.Keyboard - Almost anything that wants to bring up a keyboard is basically a 5 second period of unresponsiveness while its loading.Safari - Safaris performance was already sub par, with the devices ability to render the page being the bottle neck, NOT the bandwidth. As of right now though, it is definitely a good 30% worse across the board.Apps - Alot, but not all apps, have taken a significant performance hit in general. It has gotten quite painful to use my phone with this kind sluggishness. It almost makes me wonder if developers put a few while loops in the 3G iOS version just to incite upgrades to the new iPhone 4.Does anyone know what can be done to improve performance, or possibly a way to revert to iPhone OS 3.x? The latter is not preferred because I wouldnt want to give up the insanely innovative and new concept of folders that comes with iOS. Its one feature I really dont want to sacrifice.
