Unable to RESTORE iphone 3G

Hi, first time posting. Im about ready to toss out my beloved iphone 3G. Ive never, in my 1 and 1/2 years of owning the iphone 3G, come across this type of situation before. Hoping someone can help.I was happily on FW version 3.0.1 with everything working just fine. Then one night, the iphone wouldnt respond to me pushing the sleep/wake button, so I tried a hard reset, but that threw the phone into either DFU mode or Recovery mode (screen was just blank). So I tried restoring with iTunes, but it wouldnt restore. iTunes would always get to Verifying iphone Restore with the progress bar, but never complete.The progress bar on the iphone itself under the Apple logo would also freeze (but where it would freeze seems to depend on the FW version Im trying to restore). I have since tried with FW versions 3.0, 3.0.1, 3.1, and 3.1.2. iphone 3G WIFI dropping out

Hi Guys, I need some suggestion, My iphone 3G (firmware 3.12) suddenly has a WIFI is dropping out issue.Every time i tried connect to any of the router, it will successfully accept the WIFI connection as I successfully authenticate the connection,but then after few sec it will be disconnected and then it will try to connect in which will again connected and again few sec it off. This is the first time i face this issue, i have been using iphone for a year+ but never encountered anything like this,I have tried hard reset, restore backup and any other reset but it doesnt help at all, I just suspect it is more to hardware issue, which will be =( for me any feedback will be grateful, =)Thanks in advanceOwen iphone 3G iphone OS 3.1.2

iphone 3G Shutdown

Hi - My phone just shut downs randomly and comes to life only when I connect it for charging to a Computer or Wall charging unit. It does a hard reset & my usage statistics as well as date & time settings are gone.Has anyone faced a similar issue..what is the probable reason and how to get this fixed.. do I need to contact Apple Support for Hardware checks. Wont register-says it doesnt support my phonecardS card iphone 3G

I started using my iphone 3G without having it registered on my Imac computer. It worked fine just the same. After 3 weeks with no problems at all, I wanted to transfer photos from the phone onto the computer, and that worked just fine. But then, the iphone freezes, locks itself and it says it doesnt recognize my SIM card and that I should use an operator that is national supported. But I am. And the SIM card is in the computer and when it asks me to unluck it doesnt accept my code and the only imagine showned on my iphone is a cord with an arrow pointing upwards and on the top theres a little icon with the writing Itunes. When I slide for emergency as it says, another imagine appear: the phone numbers with different languages saying Emergency call. On the top left corner it says SIM locked. I have tried to reset the iphone, it doesnt change a thing. I have tried to use my SIM card in another phone and theres no problem. Whats wrong? Anyone? Please, please help me. Cannot send text messages in my house or other buildings iphone

So here is my issue. I got an iphone for Christmas, and at first didnt have a problem with is. But for the past 4 days or so, I havent been able to send or receive text messages in my house and most other buildings. What really boggles me here is that while I cant send text messages, I can make and receive calls, and have a signal that is around 3 or 4 bars. Is it me, or does anyone agree that if a phone can make calls, it should be able to send text messages?I have asked Telus about this problem, and they have been little help. The first time I went to them about it, they reset the network and said that would fix it. The second time I asked about it, they told me it was most likely a problem with the phone itself, which makes no sense to me.In addition, I noticed that a few other Telus customers on here posting that they have problems with their iPhones. Downloded ringtones iphone 3G

I just downloaded a ringtone from my iTunes on my phone but cannot seem to find it. In my iTunes> More> Downloads there is nothing displayed. Also in the sounds of my settings menu there is nothing being displayed. Lastly, it does not appear to be in my iPod anywhere, but that doesnt really surprise me. I figured this was just an error and went to download it again but was prompted by my phone that I have already downloaded it before, do I really want to do so again? If I connect my phone to my computer, I am greeted with a message that says the ringtone will not be completed because it is not authorized to play on my computer (which seems like a whole different can of worms).Am I just not looking hard enough? All Backups are corrupted. iphone

With my old iphone I had I was able to back it up and restore from the backups, now that I have a new iphone I cant restore it from my backups and when I do I lost all my hard game saved data from these RPGs I bought. It also takes about to about 5 hours on my new phone too if I dont manually unplugg it.What can or should I do? White screen with lines iphone 3G

When I tried to use my phone yesterday I hit the home button and all I saw was a white screen with dark lines going up and down the right side of the phone. I tried to reset by holding the home/sleep button but it goes back to white. Next I plugged into I-tunes and tried to restore it. No luck there either. I-tunes recognizes the phone, syncs, backups but wont restore. It is a refurbed 3g from AT&T and I am still under my 90 day warranty. Any solutions? Also, will apple repair/replace it or will I need to go thru AT&T?Thanks! Emachines Windows XP

group texting should be like this iphone

hello. i just got an iphone to see what the hype was about. as a business man i bought the htc tilt 2. i have clients that i need to send text sms to at given times. now there are a lot of group texting apps out there and none of them do group texting in the way it was ment to be done. you dont have the options to: select all recipients in a group or select 1 2 or 3 etc. in contacts or in groups.every app that i have searched for that has texting or group texting or contact tweaks or contact management dont have this feature. you have to either select the contacts one by one or select contacts one by one and save as a template for later texting. this is 2010 app developers need to get a grip. now being that i am a windows user i chose the htc tilt 2. there is an appp that does this for windows mobile users. and it is called (Skb Group SMS and Scheduler) here is a link to it for a quick peak (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5TRLbGTPk4c) now this is the way group texting is supposed to be. if you know anyone who develops apps for iphone grouping and or texting send them there so they can see how it is really done. it wouldnt be that hard to put a link inside of the contacts so you can select as many contacts as you would like to text. my question is they have all of these apps for the iphone and cant make a simple button for selecting the whole group to text or a check box to select the contacts that they want to text? i see that you can select all in a group in a program called groups drag and drop. and you can email the whole group. they missed the boat on that one. emailing is not the biggest thing going, texting is. please help me in this effort to make peoples live better by emailing iphone app developers to make an app that is like Skb Group SMS and Scheduler if they do that then people will be lining up to get it. hit me up and let me know what you think and if you have any ideas or if you know anyone that can accomplish this type of app or if there is one out there somewhere that i dont know about. www.myspace.com/roundtablestudios hp Windows 7

No Service on my phone only in Whitewater WI iphone

For the past few days I have been unable to make calls or send texts with my iphone 3G because the AT&T carrier signal will only connect very briefly around my hometown of Whitewater, WI. After about twenty seconds of connection it will drop off completely. It seems to affect only my phone, because my fiances iphone 3GS has full bars.I scheduled an appointment with an Apple Genius at the Madison, WI Apple store on January 10. Of course the phone performed wonderfully in the Madison 3G network. I switched the phone to use EDGE only and it worked just as well. Their recommendation was to contact AT&T about the issue. I spoke with an AT&T rep and they gave me the runaround. I was told that if the phone is malfunctioning it should be taken to Apple, since it is covered under Applecare.As I was driving home the 3G network dropped off and I had no signal the rest of the way.Turning the phone off and on does not solve the issue. I have tried the reset Network Settings and Erase All Content and Settings options. I have also tried restoring the phone from iTunes. I had no luck reseating the SIM card either. All of these methods have the same results. The AT&T signal will connect temporarily for a few seconds and then drop off.Is there anything else I can do to alleviate this issue? 3g not working iphone

My 3g for my iphone doesnt work all the time. And I was wondering if anyone has had this problem as well. Where you cant send/receive calls or messages when you have full service under 3g coverage. Ive called customer service and all they told me to do was reset my phone which didnt work. I also went to an at&t store and they just told me to restore my phone, Which also didnt work. Ive even tried the airplane mode trick, and the problem with my 3g is still occuring. and last but not least i also tried to restore my iphone as a new iphone and that still did not work. does any one have any advice. iphone OS 3.1.2

Extremely dark screen iphone 3G

My phones screen became extremely dark after a phone call. I thought itd run out of battery and shut off, but after taking it to bright light I realized the whole screen was dark. Ive already reset it and restored it, but the picture stays black. Anything I can do AT ALL?

First time posting on the forums but its gotten to the point where my phone isnt even usable and I either need some answers or a good excuse to smash it.So heres the story:I got my iphone 3G (black, 16GB) in September (I think), last year. The phone operated fine with only minor annoyances as software updates came down to fix issues, no big deal. About 10 months in, the phone starts acting up:If you want clarification on some problem, ask. I don’t want to type out 8 paragraphs if I don’t have to, should be pretty self-explanatory.Before OS 3:1.)Can’t slide to answer calls. After ringing stops phone behaves normally.2.)Doesn’t charge from wall or computer (happened randomly). Plug phone in, it says it’s charging but never charges.3.)Can’t end calls / call doesn’t end when other line is hung up (thanks for wasting my minutes).(these problems persist even with hard resets and full restores, including setting the phone up as a new phone rather than restoring from a backup)After OS 3 AND full restore:1.)Can’t slide to answer calls. After ringing stops phone behaves normally.2.)Can’t end calls / call doesn’t end when other line is hung up (thanks for wasting my minutes).(same as above, problems persist with hard resets and the like)At any rate, I was home one weekend and figured I’d take the phone to the Genius bar at the Mayfair Mall Apple Store. Sounded like a good plan until I get to the mall and find the store is being renovated (seriously Apple, you can’t just put that on your site that a store is closed for some reason? Give me a break). Home is 3 hours away for me and the closest Apple store is 2.5 hours away. Awesome.I deal with the problems for another month or so until my girlfriend and I take a trip to visit her friend in Minnesota. While there we go to the Mall of America so I decide to go to the Apple Store there (which is flappin’ giant, by the way). I explain my problems to the ‘Genius’ as well as informing him of the numerous restores/resets I’ve done both before and after the 3.0 update. He checks the phone for water damage and concludes that the headphone/dock ports are dusty which is causing the charging problem. I proceed to tell him I’ve cleaned them with compressed air before and the problems continued but he’s the ‘Genius’ so I let him do his thing and clean them again. Afterwards, he concludes (via the iphone diagnostic software they have) that since I haven’t done a restore in about a month that I should do another one as that will likely remedy the problem. Right. Was he even listening when I explained that the problems happened before and after the 3.0 update or that I had on numerous occasions attempted to remedy the problem with hard resets and restores? Nope. My girlfriend over hears this (she is aware of the problems I was having and is a Apple-certified hardware technician at our local Mac store) and comes over to reiterate (albeit slightly more forcefully than I had initially) that the problems occur regardless of restore state or software version. The ‘Genius’ finally decides he can replace the phone after explaining to him that we are not anywhere near an Apple store and that there’s little time left in the warranty. I get my new phone set up and ready to go. Whew.Everything is great. Phone works, no issues. Until ~2 months ago, new issues start cropping up.OS 3.1+ (happen on all versions):1.)Can’t sync, get “unable to complete. Phone was disconnected.” Error. (I checked around the forums and tried a few things but was unable to resolve the issue, including trying to remove the files that it kept ‘disconnecting’ on when it got to, no effect)2.)Installing an application (be it via App Store on the phone or via sync with my desktop) results in the phone being unable to boot if turned off. When attempting to turn it back on, Apple logo shows then phone goes off after a few seconds. Only way to resolve this is by booting the phone directly to restore mode and doing a full restore.3.)Earlier this week, my phone wouldn’t boot after having no apps (0, zero, zip, nada) on it after restoring it a few weeks back. Apple logo showed up then the spinning loading animation overlaid on the logo only to freeze. Attempted booting again and it came on (whew).4.)Today, my phone wouldn’t boot at all, again, no apps are on or have been on the phone since I last restored it. Tried turning it off/on a few times, no good. I ended up restoring the phone again.At first, my girlfriend was convinced that it was because I was synching with my desktop PC (obviously, blame it on the PC first), which I’ve been using since I got the phone and everything was fine until both phones randomly decided to crap out. I ended up restoring it on my MacBook Pro as a new phone just to see but the same thing happens with the apps causing it to not boot. After that we thought that it might be a single (or a few) apps that were just taking the phone down for some reason. I restored the phone with no apps and it seemed to be ok so I put 3 apps that I’ve had pretty much since they were available (and used to work without issue) back on to see. The plan was to add a few apps until the phone stopped working properly to narrow down the offending app. Just kidding! Just having those 3 apps (Beejive IM, Facebook, iDracula) causes the phone to not boot. I restore and try just Facebook. Same thing, phone doesn’t boot. Restore, try just Beejive. Same thing, phone won’t boot. By the way, the phone doesn’t boot even without me having LAUNCHED THE APPS AT ALL. Just by being on my phone it’s totally hosed.At this point I have no idea what to do. I want to like my iphone again but it’s terribly worthless when I have to restore it every other day and can’t use my ~$90 worth of apps (PS: even Apple’s own ‘Remote’ app brings the phone down). I really, really hate to say it but my old HTC Hermes (Windows Mobile 5/6) PDA phone was better than this (and WinMo is god-awful).Does anyone have any suggestions? My phone is out of warranty now and I don’t have money to buy another phone even if I wanted to.***Also, I treat my phone like a baby. new computer syncing problems with itunes iphone 3G

Hi there.Its not really a new computer I just couldnt put the whole problem up in the header and it might as well be as Ive had to erase the hard drive, reinstall leopard and start all over again. obviously my phone thinks that of course it is synced with another itunes library (which doesnt exist). (Im hesitant o sync it with the computer in anyway as it may erase all of the applications that I have acquired and bought in recent months. Push Notification only works for some Apps iphone

I just upgraded to a new iphone 3GS from the official german carrier (t-mobile). The device is not jailbroken or unlocked.With some applications push notification works (iFun, Trivial Pursuit, Ping, Facebook, IM+), with some not (N-TV news, Focus news, ebay). I already tried deinstallation with data removal of the apps and reinstallation.Is there some way to reset the push notification feature, or reset the device token? Unresponsive White Screen with Vertical Black lines on right side of iphone 3G

I was walking down the stairs today, pulled the iphone out of my pocket, and noticed that the screen was white with about 10 vertical black lines on right side. Reseting the phone sometimes changes the screen to green-ish. But the phone appears unresponsive even after a hard reset and restore through itunes.Unfortunately, my phone is 20 months old, and Im afraid the warranty is over...Any ideas? Answering Phone Calls iphone

Ive just purchased a new phone cover with a clear hard screen cover to protect it.This is great, but when receiving a phone call I must remove the hard screen cover to access the slide to answer function.Is there a way to change this?I would like to be able to answer phone calls using the small home button at the bottom of the iphone, leaving the hard clear screen in place.Is this possible? iphone 3G iphone OS 3.1.2

I cannot scan for networks nore use hidden SSID (by adding manually). I have tested it out with different wireless routers at different locations which other iPhones had no problem connecting to the same wifi SSIDs. Please help. No iphone sounds

Hi guys, Id appreciate any and all help. Today, randomly, my iphone stopped emitting sound. I was watching a movie during the day, I received a phone call, everything worked normal until I synced with itunes. After the sync, the iphone wont emit any sound at all. At this point, Ill point out that the mute/sound on/of flip switch above the volume controls on the iphone is definitely set to on. So Ive tried re-syncing my iphone, doing a soft reset and turning the phone off and on, all to no avail. Im currently in the middle of a hard reset+restore via itunes but hold little hope. Any ideas? If it matters, Im using an iphone 3g 8gb, never Jailbroken or anything like that. Thanks iphone OS 3.1

Problems with connecting iphone to computers

Hi all, I am new to iphone and I just brought it 3 days ago, I am sure it should be a nice device if I could connect it to the itunes in my pc,however, it fails right at the beginning.I am using Dell Studio 15 which I bought in August, and then I have downloaded itunes and it works all fine with my ipod mini nano that I bought in Ocotober. However, days ago I purchased an iphone, and I found out that the itunes in my pc cannot detect the phone(but it in fact could detect it as a Digital Still Camera), have already called the Apple services hotline here in Hong Kong, but they cant find out where the problem lies, even I have reinstalled all related softwares and checked all USB hubs. Even the newly installed itunes can work with ipod!!!!!Another fact is that the iphone works well with all other pc that I have tried but not mine, and I only have one personal pc so I need it to work with the phone!! Have read an old post here about a month ago that one user shared the same case with me, which his/her iphone couldnt work with Dell 1555, he/she finally get the matter settled by reset the iphone, however I have tried and now my phone is even worse, it freezes at the restore page and I cant do anything =( Anyone know whats going on here? Screen says This accessory not made to work with iphone

When I turn on the phone that is the message I get in bold followed by a que asking if I want to go into airline mode. I phone sounds such as ringing and key strokes are intermittent even with the volume up all the way. Some calls I can recieve and hear the caller, other calls light the screen with no sounds. I have done a reset and restore, network reset and checked for software updates. Its an old 2g model but I love it and dont want a new one. Any help? iphone iphone OS 3.1.2

Several iphone problems. Please Help 3G

I bought my iphone off of a friend of mine and the phone had worked amazingly for 5 months then problems occurred non-stop. The phone is stock and not jailbroken or unlocked. My iphone would not connect to my own wifi connection and my friends iphone would. All my text messages have been received delayed from 2mins to 2 hours to even days. My service would go from full bars to Searching... to No Service. I have called AT&T and they gave me a new SIM card and that didnt fix it. I do not receive 90%of my calls as of now. The problem was temporarily gone on Jan. 1, 2010 but then returned Jan.2. I have restored my phone several times and lost much data. I have tried hard restores and soft restores and those only fix the issue for maybe 2 mins TOPS. I have restored it as a new iphone. I have reset the network settings literally everyday, as well as toggled 3G and airplane mode. When i put my sim card onto my LG Trax, the service is great and i get messages instantly. I have taken good care of the iphone and have not dropped it. My parents are going to the point of considering switching us (my whole family) to a more reliable network and phone because i have already missed several important calls due to the iphone. Also my SIM card is a 3G sim card, but when my SIM card is in, the 3G symbol does not appear even with 3G turned on. When my brothers SIM card is in the iphone the 3G symbol does appear. I have taken it to a few service stores and paid about $90 all together to downgrade the firmware and that didnt fix it. I have heard of several problems with the new 3.1.2. software similar to mine. I really want to stay with the iphone and AT&T but if this problem is not solved we are gone for good. I do not know if the iphone is still under warranty becuase my friend lost their reciept. Battery Issues-What are my options iphone 3G

I read through a lot of posts and didnt find one that seemed to match, so forgive me if this is a duplicate.I usually use my phone off and on during the day, and charge it overnight. Ive had it since July 09 and had no problems with this. It has been run down to the point of shutting itself off before I plugged it in for the night (fairly regularly, but not every day.)A few days ago, I plugged the phone in to charge for the night and it did not seem to register the charge. No happy little buzz-buzz, no change in the battery icon, etc. I tried my husbands cord as well, nothing. While this was going on, the phone turned itself off. My husband took it, plugged it in, and hard rebooted the phone the next morning - ok, all is well. Battery shows as fully charged.The same thing happened that night, with the same solution. But last night, no dice. Phone is not recharging or rebooting. Its off and seems to be determined to stay off. We just moved to a rural area and I had not had a chance to look into the phone situation or locate the closest store. Unfortunately we are over 3 hours from the nearest Apple store and scheduled for almost a foot of snow this week (on top of the 3 inches we are getting today!) so - unfortunately - a trip to the Apple store is not in the cards. iphone crashed hard after Erase all settings and data 3G

I have a problem with my iphone, which is further compounded by being out to sea in the Arabian Gulf, so no internet access. Anyways, my phone was acting up, and I read somewhere that if you erase all the setting it would fix it. My phone was being read on itunes on my computer as just iphone and wouldnt let me change anything, so the restore phone that way was out. Also, after it nuked, I gave it to a buddy of mine here on the ship, and he tried whatever tricks it could do with a mac. He gave it back to me unsuccessful. I updated my itunes to itunes 9 or whatever the new one is. So pretty much, when I turn my phone on, it is stuck at the opening screen with the little apple, until is resets and then does it all over again. If you plug it into a computer, it doesnt realize anything is plugged in. I am lost as to what to do with it, other than throw it over the side. Hopefully someone know what to do here. Thank you. Quick summary: I have an iphone 3G thats out of warranty. Battery wasnt lasting very long, so I installed a replacement off eBay.Ever since doing so, it crashes hard and often. Ive since put the original battery back in, and saw no improvement. Multiple restores have been ineffective; even in its virgin state, right after restore, it will crash with anything that uses a lot of power. Ive even tried buying another battery and installing it, and still havent seen any improvement.I have crash logs and kernel panic logs, but the only trend I can see is that the crashes occur when I do something that requires more power, such as loading an app, turning on bluetooth and/or wifi, playing a sound, etc... All of the hardware works, in between crashes.Just wondering if anyone here has seen anything similar, or has any experience with these kinds of symptoms. My iphone reset itself and lost all settings 3G

Basically, I was syncronising and it failed.Then I Re-Tried connecting again but same problem.So closed iTunes and Re-Opened it.It then recocnised the iphone as a new iphone and had to configure the settings.It then asked me to back up the Apps but on doing that, removed them from my iphone and it reset again, now Ive lost all Apps & Settings and is asking me to Re-Install the apps.Help?Its threatining to delete the current apps and replace them with the ones it was able to back up but thatll mean I loose 75% of my Apps HP Pavillion Windows Vista Laptop

other...My girlfriend and I each have an iphone (purchased beginning of December, 09). I have the 3Gs, and she has the 3G. On a LOT of occasions, and I can hold the iPhones in each hand and use them identically. The only difference is that she (3G phone) stays at full strength, and mine (3Gs) wanders from 1 bar to full strength. If I leave mine alone for a minute, itll start to creep back towards full strength. However, as soon as I start using it, itll knock it down a bar or two. We were in a different city, other than our home, for Christmas (hadnt used the iPhones there yet) and she sat there with full strength, and mine kept going from 1 - 3 bars. I dont know whats going on, and its driving me crazy. I can use them the same way, and they can act totally differently (signal strength-wise). I have done a reset (power and home button) and that hasnt helped at all. Is this something that I should take to the store and ask them to figure out what the heck is going on?Thanks! My iphone was working after i had dropped it a couple hours ago but when i got home and plugged it into my computer it wasnt recognized by itunes. So i decided to reset it and when i tried to turn it back on it got stuck on the apple logo for quite some time before i decided to reboot it again. This time it got past the apple logo only to flash a mix of colors on the screen then go into white screen.I decided to go into recovery mode and see if that worked unfortunately that didnt do anything of help. Any help would be greatly appreciated.At this point in time I have an appointment at the Apple Store tmw afternoon and I am running recovery mode once more to see if it helps.Edit After second recovery, i got the globe and the emergency call thing. but after about 10seconds it locked up, restarted its self and is doing the same thing as before the recovery. how to keep iphone from picking up an unwanted radio signal 3G

The iphone appears to be picking up a radio station. I believe that it is the phone because I dont hear the station when (a) I only have the headphones on, or (b) when I have the headphones on and the headset cable is attached to the headphones (but not to the iphone). As soon as I attach the headphone cable to the iphone I hear the radio station. It doesnt matter whether I am listening to the iPod music or, in fact, have any app running. I even hear music when the iphone is off (standby). I hear music until I hard power down the iphone. Then, when I turn it back on, as soon as I see the apple (before the system is fully up) I start hearing the music. I have tried two headphone sets -- one with a noise-cancelling feature and the others just cheap old headphones. No difference.I have tried turning off WiFi, even putting the phone in airplane mode. So far, nothing works.Any ideas on how to block the unwanted music? I want to use the headphones outside (to block roadwork on the street below) but obviously this is not feasible since the annoying, secondary music is playing in the background. Ok I was playing Madden 2010, and then left the phone on my bed, a couple minutes later, the screen was shut off. I tried to turn it back on, but it wouldnt.1. My sleep/wake button is broken. So only my home button is working. I pressed it multiple times and it didnt work. I tried to hard reset it by home+wake/sleep 10 seconds, and it didnt work since the button was broken.2. I called my iphone from another phone, and it was ringing!! So obviously my phone was working, but my screen still wouldnt show.3. I tried to plug my headphones in so the screen would show, and it didnt.4. I charged my iphone using TWO DIFFERENT chargers, and my screen didnt show for both. Any ideas to help?On Christmas eve my iphone switched off and I could not get it switched back on until I put it on to charge at the mains. It has been intermittant the last few days.I have tried letting it run completely out of batteries and then fully charging it again, I have tried resetting it and restoring it 3 times on iTunes. For a second time after thetering via bluetooth with my MacBook Pro (15,4, 2,93Mhz, SL10.6.2, 4GRam) the battery of the iphone 3G (3.1.2) drains completly in 2 hours.I tried hard boot the phone, stop applications, wi-fi, bluetooth, push email and notifications, full charging cycle, restore and nothing seems to resolve the problem. Cant detect 3G signal on my 3GS iphone

Once i go into a "dead zone" like an elevator, or areas not in range, my 3G goes off and the only way to get it back is to turn off the phone or go to general<settings<reset. Which is annoying and i can't possibly be turning my cell off and on every time i get into an elevator. Is there a setting i'm missing?

Heres the history. My old PC died suddenly so I built a new one. I used a fresh drive to install windows 7, but I have access to the old hard drive so I could copy the backup folder in mobilesync, which I moved to the new mobilesync folder on the new drive. I authorized the new PC. Heres the weird part- my phone will say that it is syncing to the computer, but when I check the date modified fields in the backup folder with windows explorer nothing is being updated. Ive even tried deleting the old backup and creating a new one with the same result, it says it is syncing, but it really isnt. The backup data hasnt changed since I forced a new backup. What can I do to get my phone to really sync and update the backup data??!! PC Windows 7

Sync interrupted-will verify eventually complete iphone 3G

I added a new playlist to my iphone but the sync was interrupted before it completed (but after it was backed up thankfully) and now selecting Playlists from the iPod menu on the phone will cause it to hang. If I plug the phone back into the computer I get a Verifying iphone message but even after a couple of hours, nothing seems to have happened and iTunes is using 100% of my CPU. However, iTunes does still appear to be running so I think it is doing something.The question is - do I leave it running in the hope that the verification process will eventually complete (and hopefully fix the error - does it usually take this long - I have an iphone 3G 16GB)? Or do I reset the phone and restore the latest backup? A full restore makes me very nervous.Note also that right-clicking on the phone in iTunes doesnt offer me a Restore from backup option (it is greyed out) - is this because iTunes is still trying to sync? Ok, so I have an iphone 3g and there is an option where you can completely restore your phone to its original settings. Basically like reformating the hard drive. It is a lengthy process and my wife seeing it thought it was frozen, so she pressed the two keys the the apple lady told her to press simultaneously if it ever froze. Well now it will not come back on. You hit the power button and the white apple appears briefly then it goes back to a black screen again. Any ideas what I did or what I can do to fix this?Jason M. Thinking is was a problem with other applications, I bought the iPush test application to see if works, and the results are the same. Only the message Connect to iTunes.Tried all things possible. reset all settings, reset all settings and data, restore, setup as a new phone (And activated again over iTunes with the nice message Your iphone is activated), but without sucess I have a old 3G here too, jailbreaked to use SIM unlock and push is working perfectly, but with the virgin phone, dont. The only thing with problems, is the push notifications on new phone. Every other thing works like a charm.I cant understand what is happening. Tried to restore with a MacPro, With bombWindows 7, With a MacBook and never works.Anybody can help me? iphone 3G serious LCD Display issue

I got this phone as a replacement from apple a month ago. I have not dropped it, and there is no water damage. All of a sudden on Christmas Eve, I take my phone out of my purse and my screen has these gray lines and gray blurs and you can only see part of my apps. The touchscreen works, i can call I can text i can listen to music. The display progressively got worse, I did a hard reset and nothing happened. Some screens would turn white with rainbow type colors, other gray black and white, and other apps or screens would be perfectly normal. I decided to just turn off the phone and let it rest for the night. I turn it on this morning..it reboots complete white screen and then gray with some pink and blue lines move in from the right of the screen until it takes up the whole screen. I can still text, answer calls all of these things. I called Apple talked to the tech and he walked me through yet another reset which didnt work, and then we restored the phone and that didnt work. My question is..if it turns out to be a loose cable or something like that which is what the guy thinks..I have a 90day warranty on the phone..will it get replaced or fixed? or will I have to pay $199? 3G iphone OS 3.1.2

iphone SMS over wifi

After reading a bit it seems SMS and mms are not available via wifi! Why would they make this lame decision. My parents live out of town a few miles and I have no service in this area (voice or data) but they do have DSL & wifi working. Im typing this right now w/o any cell service available! But after several attempts Im unable to send any text messages. They all say failed and show a red icon next to them saying the could not be sent and asking if I want to resend (ya, no mention of why or even a note saying I cant use SMS or mms via wifi) which is the least they could do. It cant be that hard to send a text over the net, comon now really?Now that I think of it, the phone should just use voip if your on wifi when out of a service are... Every feature on the phone should just work if I can connect to the net! Especiall when connected at faster than 3G speeds (broadband). Cant think of a technical limitation at all. Just do it Apple.
