iOS 4 makes my iphone 3G reboot itself several times day-what to try

After installing iOS 4, my iphone 3G reboots itself (sudden apple logo) 3 or 4 times a day. The reboot then takes many minutes to complete, leaving me without a phone at bad times. This happens even with Apple’s own apps—it’s not any particular situation (except it doesn’t seem to happen when the phone is asleep).And sometimes, the crash ends with “Connect to iTunes,” requiring an all-night restore process (and fingers crossed that the restore even works—I’ve learned not to trust it). I have no phone at all for many hours when this happens: my iphone is my only phone!Any ideas for preventing this are welcomed!The following do NOT help:_ hard reset (hold both buttons)_ reset Network Settings_ Complete restore from backup_ Keeping the phone extra cool (because iOS 4 does seem to run hot)_ Doing a gentle “preventive” shutdown and restart every few hoursAlso: app crashes are much more common too—some apps regularly take 3 or 4 tries before they launch, and apps that are running often exit. Or worse: freeze totally, requiring a hard reset. (But for what it’s worth, I don’t notice any huge slowdown like others have reported. Sometimes when typing, yes, but generally no worse than iOS 3.)I could restore as new phone, but then I’d lose all my app data, many hours of game progress, etc. - not acceptable. But that would only prove bad hardware anyway, and that’s not my issue: this started with iOS 4.I’m getting an iphone 4, but now I’m afraid that restoring my data onto that will make it do the same! iphone will not sync with my laptop 3G

HiI have an iphone 3g and macbook laptop. Recently my iphone has no longer been able to connect to my computer. This problem is specific to my laptop and specific to my phone in regards to the USB ports as they are in working order and when connected to another laptop it works. I have reset the PRAM recently thinking it was my USB ports and have also recently performed a hard reset on my iphone since the iphone 4 update slowed it down. When the laptop is shut the phone charges and when resetting the PRAM the phone connects for a few moments and then once the laptop has fully loaded stops working. Contacts app crashing . iphone 3G

I have an 8gb 3G that I recently upgraded to iOS4 (including the latest i0S update.) Contacts crashes every time I try to select a contact. All the contacts are there and I can browse through the list just fine though. The very same thing happens when I try to access contacts from the phone app except that I can at least tap to dial my favorites from there.Other details:Syncing mail and contacts via Google. Windows XP with iTunes 9.2.1.4 on the desktop.Have tried both soft and hard resets multiple times.Anyone else experiencing this? Any ideas? Thanks! iphone 3g iOS 4 Windows XP

iphone 3G-Power and volume button issues

A few months ago I dropped my phone and shattered the screen, completely my fault so I went to the nearest apple store about an hour away and had the screen replaced for about $250. One of the techs there suggested I get a case for it to prevent it from happening again which I agreed was a good idea. The recommended case was almost like a hard plastic on the outside with a softer rubber on the inside and he claimed he used the same one. I was happy with it and purchased it.Just recently I decided to take it out of the case because it just felt too bulky in my pocket and ever since Ive been having problems. It seems the case has pushed the power button of my phone in too far and now the screen will randomly turn on or off or bring up the slide to power off message. It also must have pushed in the volume buttons because 9 times out of 10 when I unlock the phone the volume will go all the way up or all the way down and wont let me change it. The buttons are noticeably pushed in on my phone compared to the iPhones of other people I know.Yesterday I contacted my service provider (Rogers) and explained the situation to which they responded with We cant deal with iPhones you have to speak to Apple and also said that I had to wait an extra year for a hardware upgrade because it was a smart phone. Fair enough I suppose, it wasnt them that recommended the case.Today I call Apple, expecting the good customer service I usually get. Now Im told that since it is 72 days out of warranty I have to pay for a replacement even though the case was recommended to me at an Apple store (Sherway Gardens to be exact). The only option they gave that wasnt going to cost an arm and a leg was restoring the phone via iTunes which clearly didnt solve my issue due to it being hardware related and not software.Sorry for the long story but if anyone has any advice please feel free to share. I rely on receiving phone calls and emails on this everyday and its pretty difficult to hear someone with no volume or to respond to an email when the volume icon is covering your screen.Thanks,Jamie Thorpe iphone 3G

Touch screen not working iphone 3G

Two days ago, the first row of Aps above the set ones (safari, Ipod etc) stopped working. If they were pressed, they woudnt load. The screen is not responsive across that whole line. It hasnt been dropped or knocked. However, when using that part of the screen to scroll left or right the screen responnds fine. Im further confused that when I downloaded an ap yesterday it caused the aps in the unresponsive line to work!I thought that was the end of it, however, this morning I am having the same problems. I dropped my phone today - its in a leather case and it didnt fall hard - but when I picked it up I got the message No SIM card installed. I love to use technology but not very good at this hardware stuff. Suggestions please on how to fix the problem. Thank you!

iphone 3 g stopped syncing to my computer 3G

I purchased a new iphone 4 and now my wifes iphone 3g no longer syncs. When I would plug the iphone 3g into my computer, the computer no longer recognized that it is plugged into the USB it doesnt show up in itunes. It also did not show on the iphone battery icon that the phone was charging (although it still charges with the wall charger). I still have my old iphone 3g and it has no problems connecting to the itunes account and I have had not issues with my iphone 4. I tried all of the troubleshoot ticks eventually decided to go to the phone and in the general settings areas did the erase all content and settings reset option. Now the phone only shows the itunes logo with the USB cord and still is not recognized by my computer while my old iphone 3g and iphone are recognized. This has happened since I updated to OS4 but am noticing it now consistently. If I make a phone call at any point, leave the phone app to do anything else, then come back, the phone app will be completely frozen until I do a hard reset.I just got done testing it with a friend, me on my 3G (now running 4.0.1) and him on his 4 (same firmware for him). I could not end the call, switch my bluetooth off, or do anything inside the phone app.Does anyone know how to fix this besides resetting my phone after every single call?!? iphone 3G iOS 4

How can I fix auto-pairing once and for all iphone 3G

My iphone 3G will sometimes auto-pair (and sometimes not) with my Bluetooth handsfree speaker phone (Blueant S1).I think its a radio problem with the iphone because its an intermittant problem. To fix it, I have to dig down in settings, turn off Bluetooth, then turn it back on. It usually finds the Blueant device when I do that, but it defeats the convenience of having a hands free device if I have perform this reset each time.I have also started from scratch, removing the device profile from my iphone and adding it back. Nothing changed. It auto-pairs about half the time.An improvement would be an app that simply resets the Bluetooth radio.Any other suggestions? Compaq Windows XP Pro

Like many of you, I have experienced a noticeable slow down on my 3G after upgrading to OS 4.0. After looking everywhere, and trying many of the fixes with minimal improvement, I may have stumbled onto a simple improvement. I think the new folders option, may actually be at least part of the problem. I removed all of my apps from the new folders that I had created when I upgraded, and then I did a hard reset (holding down the top button and the front button for several seconds and continuing to hold them down while disregarding the power off slide prompt, and not releasing the buttons until the apple icon shows up on the black screen). After a minute or so, the phone relaunched, and -- it is a lot faster! I hesitate to say that it is as fast as it was before the upgrade, because I really dont remember how fast it was before, but I KNOW that it is faster than it was before I deleted the folders. I heard that the problem is from downloading apps by using my phone instead of using iTunes, and there is a procedure for fixing an error file, or something. Anyone know about this?(Ive already deleted all my photos from my phone and have reset the backup file under devices and neither worked to unfreeze the backup.) I have seen sporadic accounts of my problem but no resolution (or empathy).I upgraded my iphone 3G to iOS 4.0 the other week. The update process was the slow kind, taking 3+ hours but it worked in the end. It seemed to work alright for a few days. Then I noticed the mute and volume buttons stopped working.I twice tried an restore, not a full restore to factory settings, but to my last saved backup. No success. Any help please.I have 2 iPhones and 1 is having problems doing a backup so I can upgrade the OS. When syncing the phone it just hangs up on backup. I have let it try all night and it goes nowhere. iOS 4.0 WiFi problem on iphone 3G

I am having issues with the WiFi on my iphone 3G. Just yesterday, my WiFi was working fine. I have checked my MAC address, and it is not blank, but when I attempt to connect to my home WiFi, it just says Unable to join the network NETGEAR. I have checked the password against the other computers, and it is correct, and they can all connect fine. The IP address is also invalid. My normal IP range is 192.168.1.2-268, but mine is something completely different. I have tried assigning a static IP, to no avail. I have restored, DFU Mode restored, reset the network settings, and downgraded to 3.1.3, and then upgraded again to iOS4, but it still will not connect to WiFi. Any other solutions? If I need to pay Apple $299 just to fix it, I will buy an Android phone, and never buy Apple again! iphone 3G iOS 4

I just got a new iphone 4 and it is about as fast (or maybe a little faster) as my old 3G was when it was brand new. However, by the time I stopped using my old 3G two years after the purchase date, it was as sloooooooow as molasses. I think that defragging it would allow it to work faster. Apple Care About 3G Owners Having OS4 Problems NO iphone

My answer is a firm NO. I now have a list of problems on my previously great iphone 3G (OS 3.1.3) and guess what - there is NO SUPPORT for us as customers to properly resolve this problem. The problems are as others here have listed - slow screen transitions, freezing handset, and to top it all - if someone has the sheer audacity to actually phone me and I try to answer it by swiping then it kills the call! I used this phone for business and home - it synchronises with Mobile ME for my mail/Caldndar/contacts etc. Now in business meetings everyone waits for me because of my crappy iphone. Makes me look bad and makes Apple look worse.I went through to so called Apple Support - I got put through to an APple technician in the USA who promised to phone me back at an allotted time. He did not. Thanks again Apple for treating your customer like a piece of dirt.I have reset the phone several times - it made NO DIFFERENCE. I am told that I cannot officially get the handset back to OS 3.1.3. My silence button on my 3G is acting really sensitive. It works fine when not engaged but when engaged I have to sit it on my computer desk and not touch it at all or else it keeps going in/out between silence/ring mode. I have just upgraded my iphone 3G with OS4.0. Quite a bit of problems noted:1. Slower speed while opening and closing applications. Especially SMS. 2. SMS-es will not send. Only after a number of tries. 3. Major issue with dropped calls. I will be on a call and after 5 mins into the conversation, the call drops off but yet the screen displays as Connected and with full receiption. Hi,Sigh, I have a really annoying problem with the iphone. I just recently upgraded to the iphone 4 and love it, love it, love it... Except when Im texting. The ONLY problem Im having just started recently and I dont know how to fix it. Its too hard to Google this, too. Everytime I type the word me, it types this: me So, lets say I want to say Let me have that, the iphone will type this Let me have that. I dont know how to un-autocorrect this! After I upgraded my iphone 3G to iOS4, I cant get it to rotate to landscape mode. I think the accelerometer is still working, since I can use Shotgun and PunchApp. But Calculator, Text, Email, Photos - nothing rotates. Ive tried restoring too, but I cant get the downgrade to work. Ok. Worked just like everyone else phone before the 4.0 update. No hacked/cracked or jail broken 3G just your average user here. After the LOOOONG update, my Battery life goes from an already shot life (but at least a day use) to 40 min to 1 hour of sloppy use and then the 20min warning that gives me not 20min BUT 3-5MIN!Phone is slow to open ITS own apps such as text. Ok trying to deal with my phone lagging 20-30sec just for the text app to show on the page, then typing much faster than the keyboard can keep up )Folks im a slow typer ok) and it lags to keep up with me! now remember it already is lagging so it takes 2-3 pushes of a contact name to even start the typing!All other apple apps NOTES opens slow laggy, the camera (oh lord dont let there be something i need to take a fast pic of because its was an already slow app now just SUPER slower..same with contact use or PHONE use. When I type in a phone number to call, nothing is shown on screen for a few sec! Has anyone figured out how to restore a non-jailbroken iphone 3G to 3.1.3?There are lots of links for people who had jailbroken their iphones earlier. But what about those of us who never jailbroke the iphone and just want to get back to 3.1.3?And dont, please, suggest doing either a hard reset, or a restore and backup of iOS 4. iTunes not recognizing iphone 3G

Ive been having this problem ever since I had my iphone replaced (sound problem and cracked screen). My iphone is not recognized by iTunes when plugged into my computer, explorer sometimes recognizes it as a camera but iTunes never does at all. Ive reinstalled iTunes a couple of times and it sometimes recognizes my iphone before a restart. After restarting my iphone is not recognized. Ive also reset my iphone a bunch of times and the same problem happens. Ive tried different USB ports, but its always the same story.Im not sure if its the iphone they gave me at the Apple store. How I restore to factory settings without upgrading to IOS4 iphone 3G

Hi,Ive ordered an iphone4, and my current iphone 3G is now going to my girlfriend. I would like to completely reset it to factory defaults before passing it on. Ive read that the best way to do this is to use the restore function in itunes, and choose set up as a new phone. The thing is, Im worried that this will also install the IOS4 firmware during the process which is not what I want. iphone 3G Home Button unresponsive after IOS4 upgrade

Hi all,I upgraded the firmware to IOS4 last week, as soon as the upgrade was available. Besides being annoyed that the phone is now running a slow pace compared to its previous OS, I have realised that the phones home button needs numerous attempts(anything upto 10 attempts) either to wake it or to bring it back to the home page when browsing, using an app, ipod etc.Ive had the phone a year and a half and never did any damage to it and kept it in immaculate condition so I know that it wasnt me that caused this unresponsiveness. No buttons except home button working on my iphone. fixes 3G

Yesterday, without any damage being done to the phone (dropping it, etc) I noticed my lock button stopped working. I thought perhaps the software was just being buggy and decided to wait until I got home to restore it. Before plugging the phone in, I checked the other buttons and discovered the ringer/silent button and the two volume buttons didnt function either. Only the home button worked. After a restore on itunes and resetting all settings within the phones reset tab itself, nothing has changed. Has anyone else had this exact problem? I am a Mac veteran but my iphone experience is but several days old, less than a week anyway.Just exactly how long should my battery last??? It seems to me that I loose 10 % of my battery power during a 10 minute conversation. Thus far Ive used it strictly as a phone, no gaming, video, email etc. During my 4th day of ownership it crashed, I mean it would do nothing. A two button reset restored operation but frankly I dont have a good feeling about this.A new Blackberry battery lasted me between 2 and 3 days, Im a 1000 or over minutes a month plus email. Why I did this I dont know. While in SLO I tried to connect to a tether option presented as a wifi network on my iphone 3 g running ios 4.0Now the wifi does not see any networks at all.Went to 3 geniuses so far and tried a network reset, an all reset, a simple restore, a two finger restore, a pull the sim card and try again, face the east and say please three times, but still the iphone doesnt see the wifi networks.Apple genius here says hardware problem but why from tethering???any suggestions? beyond the $200 apple trade in?Ken Newton, BeigeMT, 6100, Lombard, Pismo, Mirror Door Mac OS X (10.4.11) 600/27 Scanner, 12/640 Printer, iPod touch

iOS4 on iphone 3G flat out awful

I upgraded my iphone 3G software to the iOS4 last week. Since then I have been having the following problems:Email notifications have stopped completely. When typing text messages, the text is very sluggish (cannot keep up with the speed at which I am entering the characters).Safari is terribly slow on 3G.Apps take longer to fire up.App store takes FOREVER to fire up.Settings, iTunes, and accessing text messages also takes a few seconds longer than usual to access.I use a password to lock my phone and it drags behind for so long sometimes when I enter it I get the Wrong Password notification.I called customer support and they told me they werent aware of these problems. They said it might be a problem with my hardware. This started happening the second I fired my phone up after the OS4 install. They told me to reset my phone through iTunes and it did nothing to fix the problem.Bottom line: My phone worked fine before and now I am so unhappy with it I am going to downgrade really soon unless they fix this.<Edited by Host> iphone 3G iOS 4

using 3G iphones after upgrading to iPhone4

I have upgraded the family to the iPhone4,I now have three 3G iPs, in boxes.Can the 3G be used as ipods and mail account over the wifi. since the Sim cards have been deactivated.is it safe to resell the 3g after you reset the iphone. as fare as I can tell none of our personal info is on the phone. About to throw my iphone under my motorhome and run it over 3G

my iphone 3g was plugged in overnight to my compuer then i looked at it when i woke up and it said battery was 67% so i plugged it into my sony stereo and i looked at it after i ate breakfast and it was off and i have tried putting it into DFU mode, nothing, plugged it into my computers and wall, nothing, tried hard reset, nothing, no water damage, no charging screen, about to throw it out the window and run it over with my motorhome windows iOS 4

My iphone 3g top button wont put phone to sleep or turn it off

Today for no reason my phone quit working I did a reset and sync with itunes. Now the top button wont turn off the phone or put it to sleep. The phone works ok when connected to the computer. But when I disconnect the sceens goes blank and then I get the Apple icon and it just turns black and then the icon agian. Software version is 3.1.3.... Mac Book Pro Mac OS X (10.6.4)
