iPhone 4s battery meter unsolved mystery

I have an iPhone 4S. In January, I started to notice that it would die at 30-40%. Gradually, it started to stay stuck at 100% almost all day then die around 60-70%. Then it went completely bonkers. It would go from full charge to 15% to 0% in minutes. Plug it in and it would go from 0% to fully charged instantly. I took it to Genius Bar, diagnostics showed the battery was fine and they told me to restore it and set it up as a new phone. That didn't solve the problem. Went back that day and this time, the diagnostics showed the battery was bad so they replaced it. It worked normally for a little bit before it started doing the same thing again. So I took it back and they replaced the phone. After a few weeks, the same thing happened with the new phone... stuck at 100% for a long time, dies at ~70% (keep in mind I set it up as a new phone so rule out any software issues from a previous backup of the original phone). At this point, I'm thinking it's a faulty charger or something that's screwing up the hardware. So I was back in the Apple Store again. They replicated the problem and told me to restore the phone and set it up as a new device. Having been through this before, I asked them to restore it right then and there because I knew it wasn't going to fix it. Sure enough, it happened after the restore. So they replaced the phone again. That was three weeks ago. I started using a completely different charger (Apple charger, not third-party) and even changed outlets, but the new phone is doing the same thing again. Over the weekend it died at 48%, then 50%, now 56%. I don't know what to do anymore. I can probably go get the phone replaced again, but it probably won't make a difference. Any suggestions? I've done several hard resets, tried to calibrate the battery, let it run out completely and sit there for a couple hours before plugging it back in...nothing works.

Like for Like replacement iPhone 4S

Purchased my 4S form from Dubai while on holidays and regretting it, as Facetime was disbaled in it. Was not aware of this until i reached UK and tried using it.Last week took it to Apple store as the speakers started playing up. As it was within warranty period they replaced it with another 4S, said the speaker madule was fauly. Was over the moon as i thought the replacement phone would have Facetime as i am in the UK, lone behold all my hopes were shattered when i switched it on! Facetime is disbaled in it too. ***!  Called up customer service and complained, their reply LIKE WILL BE REPLACED WITH LIKE Is it fair, please i need your opinion

Brand new iPhone 5 replacement to my old iphone 4 battery life sucks earpod volume too low during music

After a series of complaints and refurbished replacements of my iphone 4 for its home button issue, apple agreed upon giving me an iphone 5 - box packed and brand new. I was super excited that apple finally took responsibility and just then i had 2 bad experiences with my iphone 5 in less than 48 hours of use!  1st - the music volume on the ear pods is extremely low even on full volume. Have checked the volume limit, have verified there is no EU limit, have restored the phone as new! 2nd - the battery life *****! Like i said i have restored the phone a new. There have already been 3 updates to ios 6 and its high time this got solved. In less than 2 days i have charged my phone 3 times. I have listened to music on it for less than an hour so far, about 2 hours of calls on 3g, there is no LTE over here, and finally about 3 hours of facebook and whats app in past two days. Offcourse about 5  or so pictures i took to test the camera.  Today i unplugged the phone at about 8 am. Its 3:25 and the battery is dead!!! Can u believe it, they shipped this unit from singapore and i waited for it for nearly 20 days. And in less than 2 days i hate it! I am gonna re calibrate the battery this time and come back here and post what happens.  Till then, can someone tell me how can i make this thing sound the way it should. Cause right now the volume is just low.  Neerav Kothari I have checked it on the bundles earpods, the ones i purchased separately and the iphone 4 bundles earphone.

my iphone 4 split open by itself

wierdest thing;  I noticed today that my iphone 4 was not fitting into its case well.  took it out an lo and behold the pihone has plsit open.  the back glass panel has separated along one edge and some of the top edge has split as well.   the phone it working fine as far as I can tell.  wierd part?  I have not dropped my phone.  I guess there is some small possibility that someone else dropped my phone, or knocked it off my desk, etc.  BUT as far as a I know it has not een dropped.  has anyone heard of the iphone 4 splittng?  could that battery has expanded or leaked or something?  I have tried to put pressure on the back panel to get it back into place to no avail.  thoughts?  T

Accuracy of iPhone compass-can it be calibrated

There’s a basic test you can do to see how accurate the compass is. Please anyone say if you don’t think it’s valid. In Google maps, get a close-up satellite picture of the building you’re in, using the compass feature so that the image aligns north as you turn the iphone. Then place the edge of the phone against one of the walls of the building. The image of the building on the phone should appear flush or square to the wall as appropriate. Repeat the experiment in different buildings to allow for interference. My compass seems to be about 20 degrees out. It’s not that important, but I’d like to be able to calibrate it properly. Is this possible?

your iphone 5 white leak light

Ok so I was reading some posts that says that the iPhone 5 white leaks light on the right had side by the power button so I went to a dark room to see if mine did this to and low and behold it does, I'm so very disappointed and ****** off, I'm afraid to even go get the swapped out because the swapped phone could have the same issue.

Unauthorized repair charge iPhone 4S

Ok so I had been having issues with my iPhone. Then I noticed it had a hairline crack in the screen, never dropped or hit etc. I called support and a tech dude to.d me it would not be a problem based on my issues. I asked what it was going to cost me to get it replaced and he told me $30. Not sure how he arrived at that amount but it seemed very reasonable. I sent my iPhone in as soon as I got a replacement and they also charged me a hold of like $700 in case I didn't send the iPhone back. Once they got it back they lifted the hold.So this week I'm going thru my bank statement and lo and behold there is a charge for 211 bucks from apple. So I call them and sure enough it was a repair charge. So they hook me up with a rep who says he is sorry for the charge and not only will they be refunding the $211 but as a bonus, the $30 as well. Ok, this is really cool. But then he says something like the way it works is you won't see the refund until you get your next bank statement and they refund it back to your bank. Does this sound plausible? I mean, every time I have ever gotten a refund from a charge card it shows up right away in my online banking. It's kinda silly that I have to wait to get my 211 back of my money that was basically stolen from my account. In no instance was I told that there would be a Spain charge or this would be taken from my account nor was it authorized. Especially considering they already took the $30, a number again I'm not sure how they arrived at which is probably why the rep told me they would refund all of it.In any event, I don't want to get burned I'm thinking of just filing an unauthorized claim with the bank because I've never heard of something taking a month or whatever to get your money back.

yellow line on left hand side of my screen iphone 4 after 18 months why has this occured whats soloution

I have had my iphone 4 for 18 months on contract..I have had no problems at all up until the begining of this month.   The first issue was that the home button, double click issue wasn't working too well.  I read that their was a way to calibrate the button which I had done ( please note this does not include opening up the phone) and I noticed that it works much better.  However lately I have noticed that I have a yellow tint, line vertical on the left hand side of the screen.   It is very faint when I wake my phone but then gets darker and darker.   I have read that people have noticed this on buying their new iphones however mines has just appeared.  my contract is up in 6 months so I'm not keen on spending extra on the phone is there anything else I can do?

How to calibrate an iPhone battery iPhone 4S

Hi, I took my iphone 4s to the genius bar at apple store today. Despite having terrible battery problems they told me to wait for ios 5.1 and to calibrate my iphone battery, I was also told that replacing the phone would not be a solution as it is a software based issue.  So I have been browsing the web on how to calibrate an iphone 4s battery and have found answers but they all seem different. Answers I discovered were:  1.  We must let the iPhone runs the entire burden of the battery, i.e. use it until it shuts down for lack of battery. After the iPhone battery has run out, we let it sit for about 6 to 8 hours. After this time because we can connect it to boot to load, this process should be left between 6 to 8 hours. (While it may use its load without disconnecting from the mains.)Once the load, you can enjoy your iPhone newly calibrated. 2. "First, plug your device into a charger and let it charge fully – leave it charging for another hour or two after its fully charged. Then, remove from the charging source and use your device like normal. Do not plug it into a charging source, but use it until the device decides to power itself off due to low battery. When that happens, plug in your device into a charging source and let it charge fully. During this time, it is completely safe to use your device."Im still not sure how to calibrate an iphone battery.  Can anyone please tell me the correct method?

iPhone 4S Genius idiot Bar Appointment Complete Waste of Time

Like many others I've been experiencing severe battery drainage since updating the software on my iPhone 4S to iOS 5.0.1. I've tried all of the recommendations on this and many other forums but still the battery continues to drain at an incredible rate. My Usage stats are also pretty messed up. After a full recharge, both my Usage and Standby times are always exactly the same. Even with the iphone in Airplane Mode with everything swtiched off both stats are the same. On top of this, I've also (since the update) started to get ghosting on many of the menu screens. I thought I'd be fine having forked out for the 2 year Apple Care cover but apparently not. My phone was pre-ordered along with Apple Care via the Apple UK website.  This week I called the Apple Support Line. Apparently their is no record of my ever purchasing any apple products direct from apple either via their website or one of their stores. What a start! In the end they did decide to actually listen to the issues I was having with my iPhone and I was hopeful of a resolution. I was told to reset the phone. I have already tried the Reset All Settings Option but when that failed to cure any of the faults I proceeded to try the Erase All Content & Settings option. No matter of I set the iphone up as a new device from scratch or if I restored it from an iCloud backup, nothing made the slighest bit of difference. In the end the Apple Support Line gave me 3 options. Option 1 - Book a Genius Bar appointment.Option 2 - Have a refurbished iphone sent out but they can't tell me when.Option 3 - Have Apple arrange for a courier to collect my iphone and then ship it to Apple to be repaired. Again, they cannot tell me when this would be. Option 2 & Option 3 are of no use to me whatsoever. Being disabled, I need to know when (which day at least) the courier would be arriving so I could arrange for my carer to be here to answer the door as it takes me a long time to get there. Option 1 it had to be. The nearest Apple Store is over 100 miles away so thats a 200+ mile round trip to try and get these phone issues sorted. Booked the Genuis Bar Appointment, took all my order details/receipt, packaging and iphone 4S to the appointment. Explained the problems and hopeful that something could actually be done I waited for the Genuis Bar persons repsonse.  You need to do a reset! AAARRRGGGGGHHHHH!!!!!! All that way just to have someone at the Apple Store carry out exactly the same thing I've already tried on more than one occassion. They insisted that the reset would fix all the problems. I let him carry out this supposedly miracle reset, did everything which I was told to do, went into the menu screens and low and behold the ghosting is still present. Then the Apple Genuis (cough cough) decides all of the faults are due to the software, wait for iOS 5.0.2. I asked how long is that likely to be? No idea, could be next month or next year. If the software update fails to rectify any issues call back. What a complete and utter waste of time. An iphone with a standby time of less than 18 hours (thats in airplane mode with everything switched off), you have to have all the features disabled/switched off or else the phone is dead within 6 hours, apple have no reord of my ever purchasing it from them despite the fact I have all the relevant paper work and a Genius Bar that's as much use as a chocolate fireguard.  So there you have it, pay hundreds of pounds for an as advertised iphone 4S but all you'll receive is a shiny iBrick. I now know what the S in iPhone 4S stands for s**t

iPhone 4S Battery Drain

Ok,   so I got my 4S on October 14th and love it, except for the battery drain.  While my drain is nowhere near as bad as some people (I have a co-worker who has to leave her phone turned off during the day or it drains in a few hours), it has been frustrating. 1.  I called Apple support on October 29th and they did a restore to factory settings.  I still noticed battery drain.2.  I went to an Apple store on October 30th and a diagnostic test showed no issues, so they gave me a new phone.  I charged overnight and as soon as I touched the phone in the morning it dropped to 99%.  After two hours of complete standby, it was down to 92%. I have location services off, wi-fi off, brightness very low and very limited notifications. 3.  I called Apple support on October 31st, and they suggested I re-calibrate, restore to factory settings and then, if still not better, another new phone.  The guy I was speaking to was kind of incompetent, so I saw by Googling what re-calibrate meant, so I am draining the battery now until it shuts down and then will charge to 100%.  4.  However, I am not doing another restoring to factory settings as I have done that several times and it is the answer they give when they have no answer.  I am also not getting another phone because I fear worse drainage like my co-worker.  Clearly, Apple has to find answers and, if necessary, do a recall where people bring their phones into stores for a battery that fixes the problem.  That will be my hope unless someone out that has a GUARANTEED answer. Anyone?

white iPhone 4S dull amp dingy display

i was finally able to reserve my phone yesterday and picked it up at the Apple Store.  I was lucky enough to sell my factory unlocked white iphone 4 on eBay earlier in the week and had to ship it out today.  Almost immediately after I turned on the 4S to set it up, i noticed the duller display.  I brushed it off thinking that auto-brightness must be on and it's probably because of the screen cover.  So i took it off after i set up the phone, also turned off auto-brightness but unfortunately it still looked washed out and dull.   I compared it to the iphone 4 and lo and behold, the iphone 4's display is  MUCH crisper, more contrast, better saturated and looks closer to the display on my macbook.  Now i know not all displays will the same, because my boyfriend's iphone 4 has warmer colors than my iphone 4, but his does not look washed out and is more vibrant than the 4S.  I compared all three side by side, and while i do not mind the warmer tint, i DO mind that the display is so dull and looks very cheap, almost like there is a fog over the screen.  I am hoping that there will be some answers, other than the "glue" from the manufacture not drying out yet.  If this is due to different screen manufacturers then Apple should have done a better job at quality control to ensure all the products are proper and ready to be shipped.  I have called Apple and the rep told me to come out to the store so they can have a look and I would be able to swap mine for a new one but they will not guarantee that the display will be the same or not.  If even the reps from the store know about this issue then why hasn't Apple said anything?!  I'm not trying to stir up something that doesn't exist, because after a lot of research I realize MANY many people have the same problem and i'm not trying to be nitpicky, I just want to have a product that is *flawless*.  Don't we all? We paid good money for it.  I guess I'm just trying to get some answers as to why this is.  I might be lucky after I swap for a new one but if im stuck with the same dingy display then I would have to return it and buy the iphone 4 over again.

iPhone 4S slowly discharging while on charger

Hello  So, I have my iPhone 4S a week now and after doing 2 battery cycles to calibrate the phone, I decided to leave it plugged in the dock (charger attached) when I am at home and not using it. The iPhone charged properly to 100% (showing the charging icon) and stayed there (from then on with the cable icon)- for a while. As its weekend now the phone is in charger for about 1,5 days now. Yesterday evening I wondered why it showed just 98%, and this morning it dropped further to 94%. The icon is still the cable. Now my question: Is this normal? I know from notebooks that (even while on charger) the charger will wait until the battery dropped to 90% or 95% before it is charged to 100% again. Does the iPhone do the same? And what is the reason for the discharge? Li-Ion batteries have self-discharge, but not THAT fast. I supposed the complete operation of the phone while on charger is sustained by the charger and not by the battery? Besides this I have another question: What do you do with the iPhone when you dont use it? Put it in the charger or let it discharge? I suppose letting it in the charger is not damaging the battery, it has to last 2 years  Thanks,Sascha

iPhone 4 issues I am experiencing

It appears I ran the gamut.I bought two phones. One for my wife and one for myself to update our 3G phones.Green Photos My wifes takes noticeably better (but still green) photos than my iPhone. The entire photo is reddish with the center very green. We took comparison photos of the same subjects in the same environment for comparison. Very ugly and noticeable. The face cameras seem MUCH better on both. White objects look white only on the face camera. I cannot emphasize how green and red these images look. It is NOT a subtle thing.Face detection too sensitive/or not sensitive enough? Ive muted calls and even hung some up with my face even though I have it pressed against my ear. (I cant have a Blue-tooth earpiece on at all times at work.)Dropped calls & bars Left hand, bars drop within 15 seconds until the call is dropped. The only time it doesnt drop the calls is when we are in areas with really great reception. Otherwise at home, at work or on my commute I have to use the speakerphone and hold it with one hand so I cant browse or read e-mails or anything.Compass Interference This one doesnt worry me too much since the whole compass thing was more of a gimmick than anything useful. I often get that figure 8 to re-calibrate the compass while using the map. Mac Mini Mac OS X (10.5.8) Mac Book Pro/2 iPhone 3G/2 iPhone 4

iPhone 4 Battery Reading

My iPhone 4 battery was getting low. When I shut it down a couple of nights ago, the battery level read 10%. The next morning when I started it up, the battery level read 14%. How did the level increase when it wasnt hooked up to the charger? FYI--This is my 2nd iPhone 4 as my 1st one was warranty exchanged. So I was trying to run down my battery to 0% and recharge it to 100% to calibrate the battery--whatever what means and if that is even important to do. iPhone 4 iOS 4 iOS 4.1

Recurring Compass Calibration Issue iPhone 4

Hi,since a few days (but before the 4.01 upgrade) I am having a strange issue with the compass.Every time I start an app using the compass it prompts me to calibrate it using the 8 pattern. This is no problem for me, after doing the descrobed figure, the compass is calibrated and works fine. Now the problem:I quit the compass app and open it again at exactly the same spot where I was standing and the calibration message appears again. This happens every single time i open a compass app, regardless of where I am. Even when hiking in the mountains (where it is very annoying to recalibrate the compass every time i switch apps). It seems to be a sofware issue with the calibration data which does not get saved permanently after calibration.I found out that the compass works again normally and keeps the calibration after i do a complete reset of the iPhone including deleting all data (only deleting the settings did not work). The problem is that after I restore my iPhone from the iTunes Backup, the calibration issue arises again. So now I have the choice of keeping all my application-data and settings or having a functioning compass. This is very annoying for me. Any ideas? Is there a way to delete the compass related configuration data in the iTunes backup? Thanks in advance iPhone 4 32GB black iOS 4

DONT UPDATE TO 4.0.2 but if you did try this iPhone 3G

Well hopefully you are not reading this becuase like me your were stupid enough to cave in to the freaking nags on I-Tunes and updated your I-Phone software to 4.0.2. Now your phone is no better than a coffee can and a string.Anyway I know it has been posted by other people but I followed the advice at this link on re-booting my I-Phone after I did a restore on I-Tunes first. Low and behold my phone is somewhat faster... still has the updated 4.0.2 OS but it is noticeably better. http://www.cultofmac.com/speed-up-iphone-3g-ios4-with-a-hard-reset/48070Good Luck!!!<Edited by Host> HP the best Windows XP Pro

Album artwork takes up WAY too much space iPhone 4

It took me a long time to figure out the culprit, but I finally concluded that iTunes is syncing very high quality album art to my iPhone 4, resulting in the exact same music library taking up almost 3GB more than on my 3GS. Heres how I know this: when I click on my iPhone in iTunes, the capacity bar says Audio is taking up 12.52GB, but when I go to look at the music on my iPhone, it says I only have 9.38GB of music. I do not have any podcasts, movies, audiobooks, apps, or anything - literally all thats on my phone is music files. To test my hypothesis, I jailbroke my phone to get access to the file system and looked in the folder it stores the artwork in, and lo and behold, the folder on my iPhone 4 is 3.2GB big, and the one on my 3GS is only 500MB.My question is this: is there any way to force iTunes to sync lower quality album artwork; or, failing that, is there any source I can get lower quality (say, 300x300 pixel) album artwork from? And if anyone on the iTunes development team happens to read this, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE add an option in the next version of iTunes to convert album art to lower quality before syncing, like the recent option to convert music to 128 kbps. iPhone 4 16GB iOS 4

iTunes destroyed my backups iPhone 3G

Thanks, iTunes! In addition to the poor performance 100% of 3G users are experiencing under iOS4, I also noticed that my Push Notifications were not functioning. Wow! So not only do I not get background wallpaper and portrait mode locking - all of which have nothing to do with multitasking - I apparently cant even use my phone in the same basic way I have enjoyed for the past 2 years! I cant tell you how absolutely ecstatic I am that my phone is not a sniveling wussy shell of its former self. I have often thought to myself, Yknow, all my friends with their shiny 3GS models and brand new blackberry phones dont know what theyre missing by having to wait 3 - 10 seconds to press the Send button in an SMS application. But now my dream has come true.Nevertheless, I really was starting to miss Push Notifications (after all, no multitasking, right?) So after 3 or 4 restore attempts, I finally decided to downgrade to v3.1.3. Lo and behold, PUSH WAS WORKING JUST FINE!Well great. I guess that solved that problem. Lets just stay at 3.1.3 for a while... Whats that you say, iTunes? I cant apply my fresh backup to an older version of iOS? But I need all my SMS logs and all that good stuff because, despite the blatant oversight of not time stamping SMS every message, they are still of critical importance to me on occasion.Fine. I had no choice but to upgrade to iOS4 once again. However, after the successful upgrade, I was not prompted to choose a restore point. It simply auto-selected the backup point it created at 3.1.3 a few minutes before. So I restored AGAIN and while it appears that backup points stretching back to 2009 are fully intact, my backups from this afternoon, last night and the day before are GONE! Thanks, iTunes! I am having to go back days and days now. Thankfully I sync my contacts and calendars with gmail over exchange because I can only imagine what would happen if I trusted you with them!I have still yet to see if my Push Notifications will operate back at iOS4.Apple: You had better address these issues at your conference tomorrow. You cant go around haphazardly breaking peoples hardware as some passive way to force us to upgrade to a 3GS or iPhone 4. MBP Mac OS X (10.6.4) latest everything

Strange SMS problem-stumped Genius bar iPhone

My wife and I both have 3GS phones on a family plan. We are able to send and receive text messages freely from each other and anyone else.I can send SMS (pics and video) to her and anyone else, and she can receive. She can send SMS to everyone EXCEPT me. At&T said it was an Apple issue after doing some manipulating at their end with no success. The Geniuses has never heard of this problem before, and I was told to reboot and restore. No change.I upgraded to iOS4, and lo and behold, I can receive pictures and text from my wife.I then upgraded her phone, and we are back to where we started. There is no failure of delivery notice; it seems to send okay, but then.. nothing.Does this scenario sound familiar to anyone? Accelerometer calibration iPhone 3G

Hi everyone! First of all, sorry about my english, it´s not my matter language, ill try to do my best. I have a question for you people.I have recently bought an iPhone 3G, and, in some games that uses the motion (the accelerometer) like R.Racing GTI, Think Blue, Labyrinth 3D, Ive noticed a slight uncalibration. After that I installed some apps of spirit level (like A Free Level, and BLevelFree) and they says that the longest axis have a 5.5 degrees unbalance/uncalibration to the left (tested on a flat surface) The other axes are a little bit unbalanced (about 2 or 3 degrees)Ive asked in my mobile phone provider and they said to me that he cant change my iPhone for a new one because its a problem of that external apps. They says that the official Apple test for the accelerometer is on Photos, Safari, etc. If they can switch 90 degrees the iPhone and the screen switch, then they consider that its not an accelerometer problem.Ive read other posts about the same issue, but I couldn find a concrete response.I want to know if really there is no problem with my accelerometer, because the 90 degrees switch works fine, but not in the games that uses the accelerometer. Its a bit uncomfortable to try to play that kind of games.Does the mobile cell provider should change my phone?Apple does not care if this uncalibrated accelerometer 5 degrees? Why there is no a settings button to calibrate the accelerometer? What should I do?Thank you very much for your time and your answers. iPhone 3G iPhone OS 3.1.3

iPhone 3G tilt sensor not calibrated correctly

Hi-I activated an iPhone 3G today and Ive noticed the tilt sensor is broken/mis-calibrated. An install of a iPhone level app confirms that it is off by about 5 degrees. For instance, if I play a driving game and hold the phone level, Ill drive around in counter-clockwise circles Is there a way to re-calibrate or did I get a dud?Thanks--KR iPhone iPhone OS 3.1.3

Voicemail not working no alert telling me I have voicemail how to fix iPhone

I never figured out this problem until today:•My visual voicemail appears to be functioning, nothing denotes otherwise.•I was wondering why no one left me voicemail after they called, so I decided why not check it manually.•I help down 1, and lo and behold I had at least 30 messages over the past month.•Occasionally a message comes thru to my visual vm, but apparently not all.So basically how do I get this working? It doesnt even alert me when I have a voicemail.Im on At&T, running 3.0.1 (could old firmware be the problem?, I have reasons for keeping it at 3.0.1, and no its not jailbroken.) iPhone 3G restore failure

I thought I should share my recent experience with the iphone OS update!Ran update procedure as requested by iTunes, when the iPhone rebooted it got stuck in restore mode.Tried several things to get phone restored using Apples own suggested troubleshooting, kept me busy for about two hours and multiple attempts/holding down buttons e.t.c. but with no luck!Visited local phone store to see what they could suggest - buy cheap phone, use sim in that, send iPhone to Apple for repairs, phone away for a few weeks.... or buy replacement phone (still in contract so....) thatll be £500!!!!Decided to chill for a moment!Came home, enjoyed some wine, forgot all about it!Next morning, just for the **** of it plugged stuck phone back into lappie.... lo and behold the thing restored, firmware restored, e.t.c.... woohooSo, Im not sure what I did wrong, but leaving it overnight seemed to help! iPhone losing my music 3G

So heres the deal:I got my iPhone about two months ago. It worked perfectly until about October when I hit my iPod button and a screen came up that said Updating Library. After this, my iPhone says it has no music or movies. Ive called customer support, they had me reset the sync history, changed certain settings on iTunes and plenty of other options that were available. This event kept happening, and I called back again. They had me restore my iPhone, and set it up as a new phone. It happened again, and they set me an appointment with an Apple Tech in Louisville. When I went to the appointment, he pretty much just replaced the phone, based on the notes that were associated with my account. So, now I have a new iPhone. I uninstalled iTunes (per the suggestion of the tech support on the phone and the guy at the Store) and reinstalled it to avoid the corrupted iTunes deal. I didnt think it was, but I wanted to be sure. Im operating under brand new iPhone and a fresh install of iTunes. My replacement happened last Friday. This morning, lo and behold, the same deal came up. I decided to connect it my work computer. I have the iPhone set to automatically sync with my home computer, so nothing happened as I plugged it in. All it did was recognize the iPhone, so nothing has changed. The crazy thing is, the space bar at the bottom of the iPhone screen on iTunes is still showing I have 2 GB worth of music and 2 GB worth of movies on my work computer. I can even view the stealthy music (obviously cant play it)on my iPhone from iTunes. So whats the deal? How can iTunes see my music but I cant use it on the iPhone? I connect my iPhone to charge it every night, where it is set to automatically sync...so there shouldnt be a problem there. Even more so, I had it at one point where I manually managed the music, and this still happened. I want to play my media on my iPhone, and mind: all of this happened while NOT connected to iTunes. iPhone 3.1 network connectivity and callsms issues 3G

I have owned an original iphone, traded up to 3G and to 3GS this year. Ive never had problems with a firmware update and its quality up until now.I upgraded to 3.1 firmware within 24 hours of it coming out and started to notice problems with connectivity to the network. Sporadically I would not be able to use safari, mail or any application that connected as it would just sit there and fail. No matter how long I waited, it would not return. Weath would say Updating..., Safari would have a small blue bar as if it was doing something but it would eventually timeout. The only way I could resolve the situation was to restart the phone. After a week or so I realized that when this happened I could not make or receive calls. I found this out as after a reset (which happened daily) I got a bunch of texts and voicemails which had been sent and never appeared. At this point I took it to apple and they looked at it and reset the phone. They told me to not restore from backup (at my prompt) in case it was something to do with an application I had installed (so much for these apps running in their own space, but I think that was the comment from a store rep who is getting sick of the 3.1 problems and could explain to me it was probably a software issue).I went home and reinstalled by hand everything and got reconfigured. Lo and behold the next morning, same problem.I now went to AT&T and got a new sim card. Guess what? That evening, same problem. I went to the apple store again and after a genius noted that things didnt look right, they replaced my phone. Now here was my first mistake. The replacement came with 3.0.1. In my haste to get up and running with all my apps again my backup from the clean install wouldnt load due to it being made from a 3.1 OS. I foolishly updated to 3.1 and restored from backup. I knew that it was a 3.1 issue and in my haste to get back to a normal phone again I upgraded without thinking. Id told my wife and other people not to upgrade due to the problem I was having.Same problem next morning. I can see the writing on the wall when this happens as I recharge every night and until 3.1, it wouls always be at 100%. Now I start the phone in the morning and it will be at 97% or so, but within a few minuted of using the phone on it gets to 100%.My next course of action in trying to find the problem was stopping using core applications to try and keep an iphone working as an actual, you know, phone. Ive stopped using mail and switched off both my google apps account as a gmail account and my work email as an exchange account. Ive left contacts and calendar for now but may nix them if I have a problem with them. So far, Im no longer seeing my battery drain (another issue with it getting stuck doing something). Some other info from when I saw the problem this morning. Id read in the apple site that if this happens you should switch to plane mode and back again. Tried this, did nothing. I then switched email off and then got a couple of texts straight away. My thought is that it is the mail client (I also have never used push and have it switched off) and that it is keeping hold of a connection. As soon as I switched it off, my texts came through. Now typically when I have my phone off and I receive a text I think (please correct me) that the time I get it is the time it says - so when I turn on, thats the date it shows. The texts I recieved this morning when I turned email off had a date of two hours earlier, when they were sent which leads me to believe that they had come to the phone but got held up in some poorly designed multithreaded code. Ill update in a day or so depending on if I stop seeing the problem with email off.It has to be some combination of settings otherwise all users would be seeing this. Id be interested to know if other users seeing the network problem are also using multiple email accounts, a mix of different types with one exchange in the mix. 3GS Other OS Strange I cant pick 3.1 as iphone OS

Major Issues everytime I update my iphone 3G PLEASE HELP

Everytime I run an update from my itunes into my iphone, it puts the phone in the same mode it was in when I got it. Where all you see is the cable picture and the apple. I then need to restore on another computer that has itunes on it and after that I can restore from my computer. I know 2 other people that have the same issue and we all need to go through the same steps. Last night I went into add/remove programs, on my Dell Lattitude D820 running Windows XP, and removed itunes. I then went to apple.com and downloaded the latest version of itunes. After installing again, I ran the update for my phone and behold, it has went into that mode. Since my computer was running dangerously low on power and I forgot my power cord at work, I had to leave the phone unusable until I got to work. Does anyone know how to fix this? I am getting fed up with this issue and was about to throw the thing through the window. In case you were wondering, I am proficient with computers and work on handheld units that run windows mobile operating systems. I am not nearly as familiar with apple operating systems. iPhone 3G 3.0 native SMSMessages app NOT WORKING

Yesterday my iPhone text messaging was working fine just like it has been forever. I went to bed last night, plugged it in next to my bed. The next day I grab my fully charged phone and unlocked it to send a text. I opened the Messages native SMS application and deleted a few conversations, then I went to send a new text. Hit the little Compose button, typed in the recipient, and a message. I tapped send. The application then froze, and quit. I didnt give much thought to it, so again I reopened SMS. There were the messages I had previously deleted... I deleted them again then went to resend that new message, tapped send and, lo and behold, the application froze and quit. Getting aggravated now, I slid to power off and turned it back on. Tried again, exact same results. Moving on I held the home and power buttons to do a hard reset. Again, same thing. I grabbed my phone, sat down at my MacBook Pro plugged it in and clicked restore. I thought if this doesnt work, nothing will. Turns out it didnt work... The same -- now apparently invincible -- text conversations, and no ability to send or receive texts. Does anybody have any idea of what caused this? More importantly how to fix it! Ive powered it off in every way possible and done a full restore. To anyone who replies, Thank you!MJ iPhone 3G - White 16GB iPhone OS 3.0

Random Phone freezes at end of call 3G 16GB iPhone

Got the iPhone for the wife for her birthday. I loved the phone (wife has to remind me who owns it). Didnt experience any problems while I was using it but my wife was getting frustrated by not being able to end calls about half the time because the screen just went blank and would not respond to anything. So after restoring multiple times on multiple computers I finally took it to Apple genius and they swapped it for a new phone. GREAT!!! I thought, but lo and behold my wife started having the same problem. Couldnt end call - like she could hear the phone ringing but couldnt cancel the call because the screen just stayed blank.HAS to be software methinks. So I disabled push notifications, disabled autolock and disabled auto screen brightness. I then tested with about ten phone calls. During my testing I happened to tap the keypad icon while ringing and WHAM - BLANK SCREEN!!! By accident I found that if I touched and held the top of the display - (where the persons name displays while you call) - then the display comes back. Release and it goes blank again. Touch and hold, it stays on and I could end call with my other thumb. But if while holding the screen at the top I hit the speaker phone with my other thumb - then the screen remained on without having to hold anything. Also, if I have the speaker on, then turning on the keypad would not blank out the screen. I could also emulate the same thing if I quickly covered the screen (to activate the sensor that blanks it out) immediately after dialling. Again, touching and holding the top of the display brought the screen back up for me to able to end call or turn on the speaker phone. So it turns out my wife holds her phone tight to her cheek and somehow activates the keypad. Either that or she times putting her handset to ear after dialling just right to do the same thing. Why am I telling you this! Because after a month of pulling out my hair, abusing my phone carrier for breach of contract, and a hour and a half round trip to apple and literally hours of scouring the internet and apple forums all in vain - I FINALLY KNOW WHATS GOING ON - AND HOW TO GET AROUND IT!!! And I JUST HAD TO LET SOMEBODY KNOW!!! So now that I know, I have again fallen in love with my iPhone (I mean my wifes iPhone). So is this a bug and has anyone else experienced it? iPhone iPhone OS 3.0

Broken Glass Feeling Helpless iPhone 3G

So my iPhone vibrated off my night stand 3 feet down to my hardwood floor and low and behold the glass shattered. Its still intact but has a zillion cracks in the glass. So I made an appointment for the Genius Bar and nothing in my area was available for a couple days. On my way to work I decided to just drop in and was greeted with 2 employees who asked if I need help. I explained my situation and they promptly told me they are booked until tomorrow and come back. What upset me was that I was literally the only customer in the store and there were 8 Apple employees staring at each other and not 1 could help me because I didntt have an appointment and it was policy to have one GRRRRRRR. So I asked when I do come back what will happen, she said it will be $199.99 to replace the phone. WHAT??? I honestly dont have that kind of money right now. I called ATT and they said Im not eligible for an upgrade. What other options do I have??I think Im just going to use the phone broken and hope to heck I dont get cut by the small pieces of shards that are comming off everytime I use the phone. I wish Apple had a better solution. I had NO idea the front of the phone was literally glass and could break easily like a mirror. I think I may just have to cancel my ATT contract which is still $99 to cancel but at least its cheaper than a replacement phone and I wont have to go through the hassels of being an iPhone owner and worring about how delicate and expensive it really is to repair. I whish I knew about all this before I purchased the iPhone with the hard earned but little mone I have. PC iPhone OS 3.0

iPhone 3G 16GB-Phone warm battery going flat in day

Apologies if this has come up before... I suspect it probably might!Got an iPhone 3G 16GB that Ive had since about October. Intermittently over the last few months itd been draining the battery within the space of a day.. I took it into the Apple store having booked an appointment at the genius bar. The iPhone was diagnosed and was apparently fine - the guy recommended a restore which I forgot about as the problem was so infrequent and not reproducable. For some reason in the last 2 weeks or so, the phone has become a real pain in the backside, draining the battery within a day and has now started to get very warm to the touch. I only use the phone lightly - a tiny bit of WiFi each day (approx 3 mins) and about 5 texts.. I only enable WiFi when I want to use it (and disable it when not using it) and never even have Bluetooth enabled.Frustrated with the situation I finally relented and did a full restore last night to a clean 2.1 image.. Ive subsequently only re-installed 2 applications of the 20 or so I did have installed - Twitteriffic and an application to authenticate me to the Bluesocket WiFi system we use at work. Lo and behold, it behaved even WORSE today taking me down from fully charged at 8am to warning about only 10% battery life remaining by 5pm... Im starting to wonder if the Bluesocket application is somehow involved - perhaps crashing and somehow running in the background? I cant think what else would be to blame? Im going to restore it again tonight and install NOTHING and see how it behaves... but in the mean time should I be booking another Genius bar appointment? Thanks. calibrate System Accelerometer iPhone 3G

I recently got an iPhone 3G and the unfortunately thing is that the accelerometer is way off, at least by 10 degrees to each axis. At first I thought it was that one application but found out otherwise, its the systems accelerometer thats really flawed. I went to the genius bar to talk about this issue and the genius said that its really the developers (applications makers) responsibility of implementing a calibration function into the software. But apparently none of my friends iPhone 3Gs have this problem, and she tells me that its really hit or miss.I googled this and some people were able to get an exchange on the spot just like that but I failed to. What are my options now? I cant believe Apple didnt implement a calibration for the accelerometer thats deep down in the system. Then people wouldnt be having this problem and waste time/resource to exchange for a new phone for a little yet major issue like this. I definitely hope theyll do something about this in the upcoming updates. Instead of having all developers doing this, Apple should be the one up for this. Windows XP Pro

O2 iPhone 3G Set Time Automatically option not

Hi.I have an O2-UK iPhone 3G. I remember on my old iPhone (not with O2), I had an option in Settings -> General -> Date & Time to set the time automatically depending on cell tower information. This is no longer present in my 3G. Instead, I have to set my time zone and time manually.I figured this was a SIM-related problem, so I installed the new SIM unlock for the 3G iPhone, and tried a Vodafone SIM I had floating around. Lo and behold, Set Automatically replaced the manual settings boxes immediately and my time was set by the cell towers by itself.I got my O2 SIM from before I got my iPhone; it was a contracted Simplicity SIM, and is only a year older than the iPhone itself, so youd think itd support such an old thing as time synchronisation. Should I call O2 up and ask for a new SIM to be delivered to me? Any other O2-UK users here who have more luck with automatic time synching? Best,

motion sensor iPhone 3G

Is there anyway to re-calibrate or to reset the iphone motion sensor? I think mine is off balance. For example, there is a racing game called Audi A4. When I am in the game, the car always turns to left if I place my iphone on the table. I have to hold my iphone in a way (left side is higher than the right side) to make the car go straight. iPhone 3G / 2.2 firmware Windows XP iTune 8.0.2

Battery has mind of its own iPhone 3G

My iPhone is only about 2 months old but the battery sometimes discharges rapidly. I calibrate it often and sometimes that works but sometimes it doesnt. Theres no way that I have used 400 cycles already. Old iPhone battery was much more stable. Actually, I had no problems at all with the old iPhone 2g. Im not running any apps but I do have my wi-fi on all the time and 3g is enabled. I have Fetch turned on for email and most of the sounds are turned off. I dont even use the phone and when I look at it half the battery has been discharged already. I suspect there is a problem with the new 3g phones re: the battery. Who knows, but if this continues, I will bring the phone to the Apple Store for a replacement or a new battery. This is so frustrating how it has a mind of its own!!! Has anyone owned a 3g 16gb iPhone for 1-2 months and has had their battery discharge far to rapidly? What have you done? MacBook 2.4GHz Mac OS X (10.5.6)

Genius set off my water indicator iPhone

alright, i dont usually post of forums much, but i really need some help here...my headphone jack on my 3g stopped working last week...i finally got a chance to take my phone to the nearest apple store on sunday, since it is over an hour drive for me...the moron at the genius bar said he could easily fix it himself...he took my phone over to a work station type area and had his back turned to me...i watched him pick up an air canister upside down and start spraying it as i was yelling dude what are you doing in case anyone doesnt know, holding one of those air canisters upside down causes a bunch of moisture to come out...and of course the water damage indicator is right inside the headphone jack...well, lo and behold his genius idea to use the air canister incorrectly did not fix my headphone jack...he said hell go get me a replacement...he then said, oh i have to just check one thing he went on to tell my my water damage sticker had been triggered and he couldnt replace my phone because it was now out of warranty...i literally stood there with my mouth hanging open and was at a loss of words...i asked for the manager then and told him what the moron had done...the manager said to me im sorry, but once the water seal is set off, we can no longer offer a replacement for your phone. theres no way i can make an exception. i told him how the genius had set it off and he told me our genius bar technicians are properly instructed on how to operate their tools. of course the genius stood there and refused to make eye contact with me, because i sure he knew he had done itso basically, the manager refused to believe the genius had set it off and now im screwed with a headphone jack that doesnt work and a store that refuses to admit they set off my water seal...and no, my phone never came in contact with any type of moisture before this occurred, im sure of thatdoes anybody know what the heck i can do?Message was edited by: Prolif1kMessage was edited by: Prolif1k Alienware Aurora Windows XP Pro

Earphone tip broken off into port-Employee tries to fix considered accidental dmg iPhone 3G

A couple of weeks ago the tip of my iPhone earphone broke off into the port. I had my iPhone in the inside of my coat pocket, I come home, take out the earphone and low and behold the tip became stuck inside of it.My iPhone thinks that a set of earphones are constantly plugged in, even tho they are not. Because of this, I have to talk on the phone by either a bluetooth or speaker.About a week ago I went to the Apple store in Manhattan and seeked some help. I didnt have an appointment or anything as I was just touristing around the city and just ran into the Apple store. I was planning on going to my local Apple store sometime after Christmas when I have a few days off and time to take care of it.At the store, an blue shirt genius attempted to pry the piece out with some type of tool to no prevail. He then said to me since the iPhone is still covered under warranty, he would be happy to exchange it right then and there. I told him that I didnt want to as I wasnt prepared because I never backed up any of my contacts and such. The plan for me was to go home, backup my iPhone data, go to my local Apple store, have them look at it, and if they were unable to fix it, then get a new iPhone under warranty. So today I go out to my local Apple store at King of Prussia, PA and the associate and manager there told me that they can not give me an exchange because the tip of the earphone breaking off was due to accidental damage, and accidental damage is not covered by the limited warranty. (I looked over the warranty online after I left and it does say this.) However, how is this accidental damage? It was in my coat pocket comfortably, working fine all the way until I took it out. I asked the associate this and he referred to the roughed up edges on the rounded port to where you put the earphone jack into, and referred to this as accidental damage. BUT...that roughed up edge was caused by an Apple Store employee at the 5th avenue Manhattan store as he tried to pull it out with some tool. After some more arguing with the store manager, I ended up not getting a new iPhone yet....But he did tell me that I can buy a new one for $299; like I didnt know how much I spent on it in the first place.Another thing that ***** tho is that there is no history of me being at the Manhattan store as I never had an appointment and just walked in. But now there is a history of me going into my local Apple store and not getting a new iPhone because of accidental damage, which was caused by an Apple employee. Anyways, what do you all think about this? The manager said it was accidental damage because of the roughed up edges, but those roughed up edges were caused by an Apple employee himself.

how can I get recd text messages from same subscriber not be appended iPhone

Hi,Is there a way to configure the Apple iphone so that text messages from the same subscriber are displayed separately rather than appended to each other? In this way accidentally deleting one message wouldnt delete the entire history of messages from this subscriber. When I launch the SMS service by pressing the green SMS button I am met by a screen that says Text Messages. On the left of this there is a button that says Edit and on the right there is one that is for writing a new message. Down the page are my messages all grouped by the originator of each messages. If I choose one I see that all messages from this source are present appended one after the other. There is also the option now to Clear on the top right hand corner. It is this Clear option I am worried about. If I choose Clear I am asked for a confirmation and then lo and behold as expected all my messages from this subscriber are deleted. This is a work phone for support purposes and most of the texts will be from the telephone operator (i.e. the one same number) saying we have an email waiting to be read with a subject title giving a little description. I want to be in a position so that I dont accidentally delete the entire history of messages, say some evening when Im tired or Monday morning if I m a bit asleep. Ideally I would prefer that each text message would stand alone in the Text Messages window irrespective of the originator and not be appended in a group fashion. Is there a way to do this?Kind regards,M Apple iPhone
