Gap between glass and metal band. iPhone 4

I have a really thin gaps between the glass and metal band in the upper front and back right corner, and was wondering if anyone else has noticed small gaps between the glass and metal band anywhere on their phone. ive had nothing but crappy customer service at both apple stores near me, but was eventually told by the genius that i could come back with another appointment before the 30 days and swap for a new retail phone in the box. The only thing that worries me is getting a whole new phone with more different problems then the one i have with only the gap issue. The genius also told me that im the first one that has had this issue, yet ive seen threads about a month or so ago with people saying they had the same issue. so as an update, has anyone noticed this now?Message was edited by: xalexinchainsxMessage was edited by: xalexinchainsx 13" MBP Mac OS X (10.6.2)

Had glass screen replaced now iPhone randomly shuts down

My wife very recently had her glass screen replaced after a nasty crack. Everything was fine for the first 24 hours or so; now the phone continues to randomly shut off. The screen was replaced (for free!) at an Apple Store Genius Bar, not a random cell phone store. Shes performed a couple hard resets, but no luck. At this point Im thinking she should take it back in and have it troubleshot by them, however her time is precious (busy business professional!) so I was curious if anyone on the boards had any ideas before making another appointment...Any input is much appreciated!! Warning remove all all plastic as soon as you get new phone iPhone 4

I just took delivery of a new iPhone 4 today that was ordered online through AT&T. After deactivating my 3G and activating the new phone, and copying my 3G data to the new phone, I removed the front and back plastic protective film on the new phone only to find a nice set of scratches in the front glass next to the ear speaker. Now I get to go through the hassle of dealing with AT&T for an exchange and getting my 3G re-activated until the replacement arrives.Dont make the same mistake as me. Check your phone for this great quality control first.Message was edited by: Mark Warner

glass Shattered iPhone 4

Ive got proof that the glass shattered and im not a happy camper. I was putting something in the trunk and the phone slipped out of my hand and on to the pavement. It was in a case that cost me $35.00 I was sick, had the phone only 2 weeks and the front glass cracked. I went to AT&T and explained what i had did. They were no help here, not covered even if you buy the warranty. So they told me of a phone repair close by. They told me that they could fix it by replacing the screen and it will cost me $179.00 dollars to get it fixed WHAT. Ouch just bought it two weeks prior for $299.00 . What a the huge expense . After hearing all the pros about how flexible the glass is , dont belief everything you read or hear. I still have the phone, tucked away in my purse cause i dont want anyone to see how ugly it looks with the glass cracked. It still works so unhappily im having to make due with what i have very very frustrated. Ive owned a ipod and a previous version iphone, cheaper products by apple that were more rugged and durable, so i am not new to apple products. Perhaps after my contract is up in two years i will not rough be returning to an apple product. What a money making opportunity for a repairman, mine was a simple thing falling out of my hand but what about others who can be tuff on phones because of job, ie contruction workers, cooks etc or how about a family with young children who play a game and start running with it in there hands because a parent is chasing after them to get it back, excited giggling and putting down the phone thinking of the consequences that lie ahead just saying it could happen. I can see this happening the glass shattering. What about people with medical conditions and the phone accidently dropping beyond there control, will it cost $179.00 everytime you do it to replace the screen because afterall we signed a 2 year contract to get it for $299.00. iphone 4 iOS 4

iPhone 3G motherboard missing component after main antenna contact

Anyone knows what this component is on the iPhone 3G motherboard?I have an iPhone 3G motherboard I bought locally for $25. It had a broken #3 connector which I fixed successfully. By comparing to a working motherboard, I noticed that it is also missing a component connecting the contact to the main antenna on the bottom speaker module. Does anyone know what it is? It looks like a resistor, fuse, or capacitor. If I know what it is, I can probably install a new one there. Picture showing where it is located on a working motherboard can be found at:http://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/zVLTnFJsxsl6ftsHezXJNH31yqKTP51v8QjolUXQa_U?feat=directlink iPhone iOS 4

poor quality glass panel iPhone 4

I am writing to complain about the quality of my new iphone4. As owner of all the previous generations of iphone, I am extremely disappointed that the glass panel of the new iphone was so fragile, that it could not with stand a light fall from about 1.5 feet when I get off the car, the back panel was smashed and I think its totally unacceptable for a product from Apple. The broken pieces are with sharp edges and very easy to get people cut!!! And the claim on apple website about the glass is a total lie!!!All the breakthrough technology in iPhone 4 is situated between two glossy panels of aluminosilicate glass — the same type of glass used in the windshields of helicopters and high-speed trains. Chemically strengthened to be 20 times stiffer and 30 times harder than plastic, the glass is ultradurable and more scratch resistant than ever. It’s also recyclable.I request a full refund/replacement for this. iOS 4

Scratched iphone4

Has anyone else scratched the front of there iphone4 yet? I have and I dont know how as it only ever goes in my pocket on its ownsome,so much for the glass being super strong. It looks like Ill have to purchase a screen protector which I havnt had to do on my previous iPhone. Not happy!! iPhone4 iOS 4

REPLACEMENT IPHONE 4

I had my iPhone replaced today due to a multitude of problems such as:Proximity sensorAntenna marred by bumperAccelerometer failureAnyway, the phone I have been given appears to be a different build as:glass on front and back is not as opaquePerformance is fasterThe glass on the back is lighter as the wrap around antenna can be seen quite easily through it as can the proximity sensor on the front so I do think apple are pushing a revised phone into circulation. It came black boxed but was assured this was brand new stock.Food for thought... iphone iPhone OS 3.1.2

Iphone 3g shows apple logo after restore

I replaced my screen because it was cracked. Phone still functioned fully. I updated to 4.02 or latest update with success so that I could restore to that point later. My problem is that I have success in getting the connect to itunes recovery screen and the computer has offered to restore and then begins its process. According to the Phone updater log, the restore succeeded. However as Itunes restores (or during the process), the phone returns to the apple logo screen and itunes no longer sees it. The phone will then endlessly loop to try and reboot every 5 mins or so with the apple logo until the battery goes dead. Two attempts thus far.I have a valid contract with AT&T and the phone is not jailbroken. Although yes, I replaced the screen myself. (A cost of $20 shipped to my house over $200+ with apple) The phone is a little more than 2 years old.The frustration is it seems that everything should be working but cant get past apple log screen. I believe since i took the phone to an itunes store to inquire about glass replacement, the tech would had noted the cracked screen, leading anyone to believe the possibility of the phone screen being replaced otherwise, in otherwords, I dont expect Apple to help at all despite the fact of having 2 phones now, but they could surprise me. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Iphone 3g 8GB iOS 4

Iphone 4 unlocked

I have a question. When I bought an iphone 4 I was told that it would be unlocked and I could take it internationally and use it. When I went to india and tried to use a sim there for my iphone I was uncapable to do so. Do I have to unlock it myself somehow, as someone has told me or would that be illegal if the phone is jail broken? Thanks Iphone 4

Smudgy pattern always returns to screen iPhone 4

This is a strange one that I cant find anywhere. When I got my i4 on launch day I was instantly impressed by how smudge resistant the display was compared to my 3G. If there were finger prints on the screen it would take one or two wipes and be spotless. Suddenly two days ago I noticed a strange phenomenon - a blotchy looking smudgy pattern like a small leopard print was forming on the middle area off the display, which when outside really made viewing of the screen an awful experience. Getting rid of this smudge is not so simple- it takes using a specific polishing cloth or a paper tissue and usually some cleaner. Great I thought its finally gone. 10 mins later its back in the EXACT same pattern in the EXACT same position. This is definitely some sort of smudge ON screen NOT underneath as if I try and wipe of with my shirt or most types of cotton, its smudges around the screen, yet it ALWAYS reforms in the same place again after a few mins. WEIRD!The glass on my iMac screen has always behaved like this too  (and I dont touch that)- is it to do with heat under the screen or electrical fields?! I dont know. What Im wondering is if apple will try and make out this is just regular smudges on my screen or if they will agree that its not quite normal. I can only have a clean screen for 2 mins then the leopard is back p***ing me off! Friends iPhone does nothing like this and we bought them together.  Can anyone shed light on this?! Long shot I know. People are probably thinking get over it its just a smudge but it really is more than the average smudge (I had iphone for 2 years I know the difference) and its making this retina display completely ruddy pointless. Warning-iPhone4 glass breaks easily

Front glass of my iPhone4 shattered yesterday when I got out of the car. Fell from my lap to the pavement and that was all she wrote. Short fall, a little higher than knee height. Checking around, the glass is not as durable as Apple would have you think. There are lots of shattered iPhones and its only a month old. I have their bumper too to protect it so it isnt like I havent taken precautions. So whats with designing a cell phone out of glass? Two sheets of relatively thin glass. Seeing how easy it shattered I think this is a poor design. Certainly not one I can recommend. iphone 4 iOS 4

Screen Problem-White Diagonal Line iPhone 4

Hello, Ive just received my ny iPhone4 and i noticed a strange defect:on white background and with the display slightly inclined I can clearly see some sort of white line crossing the display... Bronze or Aluminum Which Metals More Shock Absorbing Scratch Resistant iPhone 4

Hi. For the iPhone 4 which Ill get at the end of August, Im considering Otterbox Defender or Ballistic HC which I know will protect it from drops done by iFixYouri but it takes the design away. Im also considering the DRO Concepts Carbon Fiber case but itll be available in September 18, though I dont know if carbon fiber could absorb shocks nicely. I need the case in time with the iPhone 4.Im considering cases from Exovault which are expensive but I think it has that balance of protection like a Defender or Ballistic without taking much of the design from the iPhone 4. They offer solid aluminum and bronze casing (front and back without plastic screen). Is bronze more shock absorbing than aluminum? At 3 to 4 foot drop, would this protect the glass from shattering, since its solid bronze/aluminum? Is bronze more scratch resistance than aluminum though? Thanks in advance.Gbu,Alvin Mac OS X (10.6.4)

Iphone 4 back glass has gap

I was just admiring my phone in all its beauty and i noticed something. Now im going to describe this the best way i can so you all can check your phones and let me know if they have this gap and maybe it is normal if just a defect on my phone.Holding my phone in landscape mode so that the come screen is on the left and the ear speaker is on the right, i hold it in front of a large light source. like my computer monitor. I then rotate the phone so that all i see is the side steel band . now while looking at it frome the side, i noticed that at the very top, there is a gap between the back glass of the phone and the steel band near the top. the gap is couple millimeters long and VERY VERY thin. could everyone do me a favor and scrutinize over your phone and let me know if you have this gap or not. it almost looks so perfect that im thinking it is meant to be there. please let me know.

How I solved my iPhone 3G IOS 4 issues

The main problem with my own iPhone 3G after the upgrade to IOS 4 was constant black screen freezing (at least five times per day if not more) and a little bit of a lag when running apps. These are the things I tried:Providing enough space on the hard drive (3GB spare) - Didn’t work.Turned off wifi - Didn’t work.Turned off location services - Didn’t work.Turned off Bluetooth - Didn’t work.Turned off all Push Data - Didn’t work.Full restore - Didn’t work.Full restore on brand new account followed by another restore on my account - Didn’t work.Using a ‘memory free-up’ App - Had a marginal effect on the lag but didn’t stop the freezing up.Turned off all spotlight options - Didn’t work.I contacted Apple twice throughout this process. The first one told me to download the firmware for 3.1.3 from a third party website and restore using this. I tried it but got caught in the loop on recovery mode insisting that I upgrade to 4.0.1 before I can exit recovery.I contacted Apple again to ask them how to get out of recovery after downgrading to 3.1.3 and they basically told me that I should never have been told to do this and the only way out of recovery is to upgrade to 4.0.1. I think my previous advisor got into a bit of trouble for that one.I told them their upgrade had basically broken my phone and that it was becoming as good as useless, bearing in mind I’d had no problems with it when running 3.1.3. They refused to accept that IOS 4 was the problem as it had been ‘thoroughly tested’. They told me to try restoring it on a new account, then going back to my own. Something about corrupt files. Still didnt work.Anyway, I was reluctant to use a third party program to ‘force exit’ my phone from recovery but in the end Apple gave me no choice and the freezing up was becoming intolerable.I bit the bullet at five days ago, downgraded to 3.1.3, used a program to help me exit recovery and that was that. My phone is now back on 3.1.3 and working fine again. How many freeze ups since the downgrade? Zero, and no lagging either. How many freeze ups when running on 4.0? At least five a day, every day.I feel like Ive got my phone back, and I wont be upgrading it again. iMac Mac OS X (10.5.8)

Need help figuring out SMS Dilemma iPhone

Ok so heres the deal. Within my group of friends, those of us with Iphones prank txt those without. Its just a fun little joke we all play on each other. We like hearing the non-iphone users SMS alert going off 20 or 30 times. This is of course due to the Iphone sending one long message and it being broken up on the other end. We think its time to step up the game a bit. What Im looking for is a way to do the same thing between Iphones. As it is now if I send a long message to an Iphone user they get it as said long message. What Im looking for is a way to send a long message to an Iphone and have it split on up the iphone users end. Not sure if this is even possible, and like I said its just a funny joke. Any help is much appreciated! Dell Windows XP

What devices do you have that are no longer supported?I have an iPhone 3G, upgraded to iOS 4My first device that I am VERY upset not to be supported is the Sony CDX-GT630UI in my car. Twitter app broken after update iPhone 3GiOS 3.1.3

I updated the Twitter app on my iPhone 3G to version 3.0.2 earlier this week. The app does not work at all. I click the app, it goes to a white screen, and then closes again. Im on iOs 3.1.3; no problems at all with the phone since upgrading to 3.1.3. Any thoughts? iPhone 3G iPhone OS 3.1.3

iOS 4.0.1 breaking my 3G iPhone

I ran through a full charge on my battery today in less than 4 hours........while the phone was in STANDBY mode.My phone is taking twice as long to perform tasks as it was with 3.1.3 and freezes and crashes much more frequently. Why doesnt Apple allow me to downgrade to a working piece of software instead of forcing me to use a broken piece of garbage? Why doesnt Apple allow me to restore a current backup (taken from 4.0.1 iOS) to a phone in 3.1.3?Your software restrictions are breaking my phone and my user experience has dropped to an all time low because of it.Are these battery and performance problems going to be addressed in future releases or are you just going to slowly break my 3G until I am forced to buy a new phone? My Open Letter to Steve Jobs Apple iPhone 3G

Dear Mr. Jobs,I wish to congratulate you in your ability of rejuvenating the Apple brand over the past decade. The first computer my family ever purchased was an Apple IIc. My school computers were always Apple hardware. However, for most of my adult life I’ve been a PC and never owned a post iMac Apple product but always envied those around me. When I have to work in the Computer labs on EKU Campus, I choose Mac. Because of this long distance love affair, I received my first iPhone as a gift, and my view of Apple as a company and a brand has dramatically changed. In 2007, I was given an iPhone (8 GB) for Christmas from my wife; she had been secretly saving for the purchase for several months. Much to her chagrin, it failed to work out of the box. She cried and apologized all day. The AT&T store said that it was a SIM Card reader issue. When the store manager called Apple Customer Service, they explained that I had to return the phone directly to Apple with a turnaround time of approximately 10 business days. The store manager did not understand why this was necessary when they had iPhones in stock. He chose to replace the original, even though it was not company policy (January 2008).This iPhone was wonderful and I showed it off to all of my friends, family, and co-workers. However, it began to develop yellow and green streaks on the screen and air bubbles under the glass plate. When I took the iPhone to the Apple store in Knoxville, they apologized and happily replaced it (March 2008). Its replacement developed air bubble issues and I continued to use the phone until it was unresponsive (September 2008). I returned this phone to the Knoxville store as well and was given a replacement. Both of these phones were given to me without a box and it is my impression that they may have been refurbs or returned phones that had been restored to factory settings within the store. My fourth iPhone began to have syncing issues, App refresh issues, and crashes with the OS 2.2 update. These problems continued with the 2.2.1 and 3.0 updates, it also developed air bubbles. After contacting Apple Customer Service, I was able to solve the problem, only to have them begin again after approximately 13+ usage hours. Frustrated by these failings, my wife and I called; then, emailed Apple Customer Service with a letter similar to this one. At that time, my wife received a call during the day, and she was made aware of the fact that none of the previous issues had been reported by the Knoxville store. In addition, the Apple records did not have my current phone shown as being used by an AT&T customer. Their response to the issues was a iPhone 3G replacement that would cost me an additional $99 because the old one was out of date. My wife agreed not knowing that I had this same option available through an AT&T upgrade. I returned my iPhone Edge to Apple; since, my wife had agreed to the trade and it did not change my upgrade schedule with AT&T. However, I was disappointed in the fact that up to this point, my wife had spent $600 on my iPhone and I had yet to receive a device that worked. I mentioned this to the Customer Service rep and she seemed genuinely concerned but did not offer any additional reimbursements. When I received my current iPhone 3G last June, It worked well and I was extremely happy with the OS 3 updates. However, with each update since the original, I have had to reinstall USB drivers on all three of my computer. Starting in April 2010, after an update, my iPhone 3G no longer registers as a camera on any of my computers. I have reinstalled USB drivers and completed two restores. The first restore was required because of an attempted/failed sync that sent the phone into a cycle of unstoppable refreshes once the phone was unlocked. (I lost approx. 150 photos of my daughter as a result of this restore.) The iPhone continued to freeze and refresh unexpectedly; so, I completed another “successful” restore.Currently, the iPhone will sync with iTunes but still does not show as a proper camera. I have reinstalled all Apple software; however, this has not solved the problem. In addition to the sync/download issues, streaming podcast via wifi has become a consistent problem. It will crash 7 out of 10 times while streaming on my home network. I choose this option because I try to save space for pics since I cannot currently download onto my computer. I must say that my frustrations with the iPhone have begun to ware my patience with the device and Apple as a brand. Whereas, I use to taut the abilities of my phone and the Customer Service, now I’ve become unimpressed and repeatedly lowering my expectations of performance. The convenience of being able to share digital pictures of my daughter with her grandparents has been wonderful. When it works, it is a great tool; I even convinced my in-laws to buy one. Yet the most disheartening thing was a comment my wife made after we watched the Keynote last week. She said, “What? I can’t believe they have a better phone already. Isn’t that a fourth upgrade or something? I feel like such an idiot for spending $500 on a phone that has never really worked. I should have waited.”Now, I am wondering why I even want to keep my phone. As it stands I could walk into to AT&T get a free phone, reduce my monthly phone bill, and just run my iPhone 3G like an iPod Touch that sort of works. I understand hardware limitations often restrict software ability. Does this mean that Apple anticipates making their devices obsolete within two generations? If so, why were we not told this? I want to be a loyal Apple consumer. I even had visions of using my awesome iPhone as way to convince my wife that we should become a Mac family. Yet, my history with this device and the current view of consumer bounce-back on iPhones, begins to worry me. As of right now, I don’t know if I want to upgrade to a new iPhone 3GS let alone 4. It seems like I would just seem gullible when the next one no longer works. Part of me says cut my losses, wait out my family plan contract with AT&T, and go somewhere else. Maybe, after the iPhone 6 or whatever comes out, enough of the kinks will be fixed, and it will be worth my money to purchase again. However, the rest of me, remembers writing DOS code on my family’s Apple IIc and watching the floppy disk boot. Those moments changed my life. I’ve been using and teaching with computers ever since.________________________________________________________I have contacted/emailed Gizmodo, iLounge, Engadget, TUAW, and Macworld hoping to generate a response or at least some answers about the quality control issues I mentioned in my Open Letter to Steve Jobs. Since writing the letter (06-14-10), I have completed three full restores, all of which were backup from February. The first one was prompted by an iTunes download glitch. I attempted to download two podcasts, the downloads failed and wiped my entire music catalog off of the iPhone. So I decided to restore to a previous backup. While using the first restore, I belieive I may have found one possible solution to the camera issue. Picasa may be deleting info packets as it deletes pictures after downloads. I attempted to download some random pics as a test for the now working driver; then, deleted them using Picasa, like I’ve done in the past. Immediately afterward the computer no longer recognized the camera. After a second reboot (again the February backup) no problems until Itested the camera driver and it happened again. Hence a third restore was necessary. The third time I used the Windows Photo Gallery manager and deleted the pics using the iPhone, no problems. It seems to be working now, but at least three phone calls were bumped directly to voice-mail during the day, two before and one after the restores. This has been a newly recurring event since about mid-May but is starting to occur more often now. This is my fifth iPhone and all have had some kind of issue; bad SIM card reader, air bubbles, color streaking, or as mentioned above, repeated software crashes. Its not jailbroken nor have I ever attempted that process. Could anyone at your site tell me if my horrible history with the iPhone is close to common or radically unlucky. I am thinking about updating from a 3G to the 3GS using the Radio Shack trade-in credit but am very skeptical of what I might get in return.__________________________________________________________________________It has been a month since my first set of emails went out. Yesterday, I went to the new Apple Store/Genius Bar in Lexington, KY and was told that they would order me a replacement. I dont know for sure if this will be a new one or a refurb but am skeptical. I am also wondering if it comes out of the box with iOS4 does that mean Apple is knowing hardware with faulty software. Could this be a suable offense or simply a bad business move. My deepest concern is the fact that my original letter sent to Apple has gone unnoticed.I guess what I am trying to say is, what can anyone tell me that would give me hope to stay with Apple? iPhone 3G iOS 4 PC Laptop

used 3g for me original setup iPhone

I have recently acquired a used 3G iphone, not in my hands yet. It is unlocked and has been jail broken, and also has the new OS4 system installed. My question(s) is, I do have an itouch 8g, with the OS3 already installed on the touch and computer, is there a way to re-set/wipe clean the 3G phone and then when I sync from my computer it will load the OS3? Also, if that can work, what do I do to unlock for a different country?thanks... ipad 32g

Iphone 3g-WiFi problem upgrade possibility

Hi guysI recently updated my 3g to iOS4 and 4.0.1. After sometime of usage my wi-fi become really weak and by the time I lost completely signal of that. I tried everything from software side, by downgrading resetting and all of this tricks without any luck. My wifi icon inside settings is not yet gray but I expect it to become after some time. I lost completely usage of the phone because accessing network was on of the main use of the phone. I went to genius bar in order to get it fixed but surprisingly I found out that they refused to change anything. They said that the only thing that they repair is the screen otherwise they change the phone for 269CHF. Thats completely crazy because I asked also for my silent switch to be changed and they refused!!!!! Then I though about changing the antenna on my own, so I bought a spare part from the internet which didnt improve the situation at all. I guess my wifi-bluetooth chip is broken and I am not willing to replace it..I dont know how to complain on that. I am a mac developer since 5 years and really addicted to their products but now its they first time that I hate this situation and how apple is handling this. I know that are posts of iphone 3g users (more than 400 replies) complaining about this and in parallel apple seems not to care at all for this.. I already submitted feedback for this.So since my option is only to change my phone does anyone knows that instead of paying some money to get a new 3g is there any option available to exchange it with some additional cost with an 3gs or 4? I dont want to get a 3g and have the same problems after some days...!!!!!And Apple DO SOMETHING!!!!!Thanks Macbook Pro 2010 i7 2.66 15" Mac OS X (10.6.4) Macbook Pro 2006 1.83 15"

hey all. been pretty rough on equipment, yet always able to purchase refurbished 3gs for $50-100 except this time; at&t is ready for me to upgrade since the new i4 came out. well i broke another one, and trying to sign a contract. before i renew, do you think apple store will restore the phone for $100? At&t will not budge but i wonder if apple will considering the entire phone possibly costs only a fraction of this cost in production.... iPhone OS 3.0

Visual Voicemail broken iPhone 3G

My visual voicemail seems to be broken. Im currently running 4.0.1 on my phone and I originally noticed this problem after upgrading to 4.0. I found out something was wrong because the other night I switched my phone to Airplane mode and a red dot appeared on the phone saying that Visual Voicemail was not available. So I held down the 1 on my keypad and called my voicemail. Turns out I had voicemail messages ranging from a few days prior to a couple weeks ago. I had no idea any of these were there and if it wasnt for the red dot coming up after switching to Airplane mode Im convinced I still wouldnt know I had unheard voicemails. Ive tried numerous things including holding down the buttons until the phone restarts and that doesnt seem to work. My missed calls are also not always working because one of the voicemails I had never showed up from a missed call. That was the one from a couple weeks ago. Also, it might show I have a missed call and the caller may leave a voicemail but it wont show up as a voicemail. Again, the only way to check and see if the caller left a message is to hold down the 1 key on the keypad and check voicemails that route. Even though I have everything backed up I really dont want to reset or restore my phone and lose all my settings and data including data and phone counters.Any ideas? iPhone4 glass back makes iphone slide off 1 degree sloped surface

Well I have had my iphone4 for two days and I put the iphone on a 1 degree sloped 2ft high deck box by my hot tube (like I have done with the iPhone - iPhone 3GS since 2007) and it slowly slipped off the top onto the concrete (there was no vibration ring, incoming message, or IM, it just slowly slipped, so watch out!!!) and chipped the lower edge of the polished glass edge of the phone, bummer! It was a loud thud, and I am impressed with the glass, if it were a glass cup it would of been broken. So here is the question, does Applecare cover a dropped chipped iPhone4, or if it shatters across the screen? And this may be a dumba## question, does Applecare cover if I forget the phone in my swimsuit and it gets wet at the beach? iMac Mac OS X (10.5)

My disappointment with Apples Service iPhone 3G

Since Apple makes it very difficult to just voice a complaint to them, Ill just post it here. I had an iPhone 3G and went to answer it quickly one day while it was plugged in and the short charging cable made it slip from my hands and hit the corner of my nightstand. This happened right around when Apple started the screen replacement program. I brought it in and forked over the $199 to get the screen replaced. I asked if I could get the damaged piece back, or at least the LCD since it was in perfect condition (it was mine after all and I was buying a replacement). They said that I couldnt have it because they had to send it back to apple for research (read: putting it on new touch-glass and reselling). I was also notified that my water sensor was triggered on the bottom of my phone and I told them it had never been near water, and it worked fine. When I got my phone back, the metal was separated from the plastic backing slightly and I asked about it and the worker said that it can happen with the replacements like that. I really didnt care. My phone worked fine and it wasnt a big deal. The problem: about 1 1/2 - 2 weeks later, my new display started losing pixels. I ended up losing about 6-10 rows all the way across the bottom of my screen. I brought it back in because obviously the screen they gave me was faulty (probably off of someone elses cracked screen phone), and they told me that they couldnt do anything to fix it because it looked like the metal was separated from the backing a bit, and the water sensor was triggered so my warranty was void. I understand my overall phone warranty being void because of the water sensor I suppose, but for my replacement screen which was obviously broken at no fault of my own to not be under warranty 2 weeks after buying it?? Im very disappointed in the way apple handled this situation because I feel like I was robbed of a perfectly good LCD and $199. Apple, if you are reading this, you need to do a better job of keeping record of what issues are wrong with a phone when you do a service such as a screen replacement so that people dont get screwed over if your replacement is faulty. Poor customer service. Ive been stuck with a bad LCD screen for 8 months now because I dont want to pay to have your mistake fixed. Ill make sure to post this everywhere I can so that you can be sure to see this. iMac 24" 3.06 GHZ Mac OS X (10.5.8)

Machanical Viberation Switch iPhone 3G

My iPhone 3G viberation switch fell out because the glued fail. I went to Apple store and they told me that Id have to pay for a whole new phone. My quetion is the why cant the machanical switch be replaced? The phone is working perfectly find except the switch is broken. Why cant they just replace the switch. Isnt this a flaw and now if I want to switch back, Id have to pay for a whole new phone? It doesnt make any sense? Would anyone from Apple contact me on this issue? iPhone 3G iOS 4

iPhone 3G Power button broken as well as interrupted restore to iOS 4.0.1

So my sleep/wake (power) button on my iPhone 3G is broken, and I tried updating to iOS4 on iTunes 9.2 on my Macbook Pro. So, the restore seems like its going well, but during the progress indicator process of Restoring iPhone (right before it begins to verify,) it got stuck. So, I unplugged the phone thinking it would go into Recovery Mode. However, for the last 3 hours it has had the same screen on the device that you would see if you were restoring the phone. I am trying to make the battery die, but it is taking forever, and I cant put the device into DFU mode because my sleep/wake button is broken. The phone is not under warranty and I do not know what to do. Please help! Thanks. iPhone 3G iPhone OS 3.1.3

mute and volume buttons broken after iOS 4 update iPhone 3G

I have seen sporadic accounts of my problem but no resolution (or empathy).I upgraded my iPhone 3G to iOS 4.0 the other week. The update process was the slow kind, taking 3+ hours but it worked in the end. It seemed to work alright for a few days. Then I noticed the mute and volume buttons stopped working.I twice tried an restore, not a full restore to factory settings, but to my last saved backup. No success. Today I upgraded to iOS 4.0.1 and there is no change.I would like to avoid a factory reset. Has anyone experienced this problem and ideally found a solution to the problem? Thanks in advance... Told by suport to post with my 4.0 problems iPhone 3G

Ok. Worked just like everyone else phone before the 4.0 update. No hacked/cracked or jail broken 3G just your average user here. After the LOOOONG update, my Battery life goes from an already shot life (but at least a day use) to 40 min to 1 hour of sloppy use and then the 20min warning that gives me not 20min BUT 3-5MIN!Phone is slow to open ITS own apps such as text. Ok trying to deal with my phone lagging 20-30sec just for the text app to show on the page, then typing much faster than the keyboard can keep up )Folks im a slow typer ok) and it lags to keep up with me! now remember it already is lagging so it takes 2-3 pushes of a contact name to even start the typing! All other apple apps NOTES opens slow laggy, the camera (oh lord dont let there be something i need to take a fast pic of because its was an already slow app now just SUPER slower..same with contact use or PHONE use. When I type in a phone number to call, nothing is shown on screen for a few sec! NOT EVEN 911!!!! bad apple, bad 4.0! this is nuts, hey, I paid for my phone like the rest of you, I got suckered into the 2 year FORCED contract that ATT has if you even want an iphone why is my phone laging, slow and at times frozen, even after a FULL reset through itunes??Oh and by the way, I did the test account (you know no apps installed but only apples, and still lag lag freeze! not to mention no solution for me other than PLEASE GO TO bla bla bla apple support and post there your problems, Thank you for calling apple, oh yes sir you do have the extra support that you paid for, but have a nice day and please do post on our website!!!!!!) YEP Thats my iphone 3G 4.0 software nightmare! cant even call 911 on time without a freeze or lag! thanks for any replies and reading my story,,(oh its much longer but i just did more full restoring so im extremely bent/tired) 2.1GHz, 20-inch, 1GB SDRAM,500GB HardDrive, Slot-load 8x double-layer SuperDrive Mac OS X (10.4.5) iphone 3G

Simulating home button iPhone 3G

I have an iPhone 3G 8gb that has a broken home button, or rather, the pins on the back of the ribbon cable that connects to the motherboard that cant easily be repaired.Recently, the wifi on the iphone suddenly stopped working. Apples website said to look at the router for problems, which is couldnt have been as my friends ipod touch was able to connect fine, as with his laptop. Then it said to try resetting the wireless settings for the iphone, which didnt work. Then it said to reset all settings, so I did, and it froze on the apple screen. Now you may see where I run into a problem. I have no home button and my iphone is now a really weak flashlight that doesnt turn off until the battery dies. I liked it much better when I had an app for that, so how can I reset this without having a home button? Having a background with electronics, I know that a switch works by interrupting the flow of a circuit (or lack there of), so I should be able to short the pins together with a screwdriver or something to at least have the ipod reset itself to a screen besides the apple logo and battery low logo. The iphone is not under warranty and I dont want to pay for it to be services when there shouldnt be much of a problem. I looked for the information online, but wasnt able to find any schematics or pinouts for the iphone that helped. The iphone was jailbroken, but had to be for it to even work right, as apple made a mechanical switch the only was to get out of an app. I had an app that replaced the home button with an on screen way to return home.Anywho, any help is appreciated! iphone 3G 8gb iPhone OS 3.1.3

Google Apps for Domain iOS4 GMAIL mailbox type broken slightly iPhone

Not quite as dramatic as the OMG its all broken, but hey.Ive filed a bug for this (RADAR ID: 8143939 ), mostly wondering if anyone has a work around, or if anyone knows how quickly bugs are handledProblem is this: Adding a new Gmail account on iOS4 works fine for Google Apps accounts if the login domain is the same as the primary email domain. For example, our primary domain is fc.com, and my email is me@fc.com. No problems there. My wife, however, uses the same Google Apps account (well, account system thing). she logs in as her@fc.com. her primary email, however, is her@ver.com With the old IMAP setup, this works fine - there is a box for both the email, AND the login, even tho they both default to the same. With the Gmail one, which is WAY more useful with Calendar config etc too, this does NOT work. It only asks for and allows one email address, which it uses as the sent from address and the login. Anyone got a workaround which isnt Use IMAP (which we are now doing) or use exchange sync thing, (which we may move to once its sorted out a bit). Screen doesnt stay off during phone calls on iPhone 4

Ive been having an issue with my iPhone 4. When on a phone call, the screen doesnt turn off when I put the phone up to my ear. Sometimes it stays on the whole time, others it keeps flipping on and off. As a result, my cheek hits the screen and starts apps, hangs up the calls, make additional calls, etc. Its EXTREMELY annoying and happens over and over. Is anybody else experiencing this? Could the sensor on my hardware just be broken? iPhone 4 iOS 4 Brand new

Restore from backup loop after iOS4 update iPhone 3G

I really hope someone can help me here, I think Ive already tried everything. After downloading iOS4 for my iPhone 3G. I clicked upgrade. It installed the new firmware and restored my phone to factory settings. I was then given the option to set up as a new phone or to restore from previous backup.I chose to backup to my previous settings.A progress bar appeared on my phone and gets about half way and then the screen flashes then the process begins again. The progress bar goes back to empty and then gets half way, flashes, and repeats. At first I thought this was just the process of the installation, but now realise its not. After 2 hours of this I realised iTunes was not responding so I forced quit and unplugged the iPhone. Thinking this may help remedy the situation was quite false! The phone is now still doing the same loop of progress bar going to half full, flashing and then restarting, even though its not connected to the computer any more!!Ive tried doing a soft reset but that doesnt stop it either. I cant turn the phone off or get it to connect to iTunes. Im at a loss. Its completely broken. Can someone please help? Im absolutely desperate. 3G iOS 4

iPhone 3G to iPhone 4

Hello,I have an iPhone 3G that I bought from AT&T in July of 09. Found out in Feb 10 I had water damage and it hasnt had sound since.Im planning on buying a White iPhone 4 32GB from the Apple Store for the full price since I cant upgrade.Questions:1. How do I pre-order it on June 15th?2. Once I pre-order it, do I pick it up on June 24th from the Apple Store (of my choice?) and then take it to AT&T and tell them to switch it over for me from my broken iPhone 3G?Thank you much. iPhone OS 3.1.2 upgrading

out of warrenty iphone 3g screen frozen

Hi All Ive had my iphone for 1 year now. about 3 months ago I dropped it and smashed the screen. stupidly, I didnt take out insurance on it. I decided to buy another screen and replace it myself there voiding any warrenty. after replacing it the screen has worked perfectly. the other day I tried to make calls and the sreen started to jump from app to app not opening up what I wanted it to. now the screen is frozen on my home screen showing the time (which ticks over fine) my personnal background image, but I can not swipe to get to apps. its tottally non responsive. Ive tried all the tricks like rebooting, and also resetting it to the manufactures settings. Im guessing its a hardware fault.Where do I stand with getting apple to sort this problem out, bearing in mind it has a non apple glass screen?I use this as my bussiness phone and I am in desprate need of getting it working asap.
