Automatic DateTime Update not working. Suggestions iPhone 3G

iPhone 3G, not activated since I switched to 3GS. But I use it as iPod, remote, etc.Somehow, it started thinking that it was the wrong month, though day of month and year were still ok. Also the time was set forward by 30 minutes. This prompted me to investigate why it wasnt automatically updating the date and time when I synced with iTunes. For that matter, why doesnt it synchronize over WiFi? I tried disabling the preference for automatic date/time update and re-enabling it. I tried power-cycling the iPhone. I tried deleting the backup within iTunes and re-synchronizing. I tried resetting all settings using iPhones settings option. I tried restore from iTunes to completely re-download firmware. I tried removing and re-seating the SIM. Nothing worked. The date and time are still wrong. Of course, I can manually set the date and time on the phone. But thats not really the point here. Why does Date & Time/Set Automatically not work? BTW, I also have original iPhone and iPhone 3GS. They both have the correct date and time, and they both sync to the same iTunes on the same host Mac. Anyone else have similar issues?

Forced to double up contact up mobile numbers iPhone

Having an issue since 3.0 update in that I store all contact mobile numbers with an international extension eg. +6421xxxxxx for New Zealand vodafone mobiles. When calls came through as 021xxxxxx the phone still recognised number as the same number. MMS messaging also recognised both. Not anymore...Now I have to double up my phone numbers for contacts as iPhone doesnt recognise the international extension. Never had this issue on any phone, seems a pretty straight forward whats going on? any advice or info? iPhone 3G iPhone OS 3.0

Swing and miss iPhone 3G

I purchased an iPhone when it was version 2.1 and was quite looking forward to the upgrade and, while it has delivered more functionality, it still leaves a lot to be desired. Can anyone tell me why such an expensive piece of hardware doesnt cover basic items such as :Adding a date of birth to a contact doesnt prompt to add a reminder to the calendar?You cant use your own sounds or songs for ring tones?You cant change your message alerts to anything other than the horrible tones that they have pre-installed?These dont seem like major gripes to some Im sure but I find it somewhat amusing that my girlfriend purchases an entry level Sony Ericcson mobile that has just as much functionality as the iPhone (bar the touch screen).Come on apple, youre better than this, please have a look at your competitors phones and think about where you fall down, it would be nice to be able to do the above and more!! Bluetooth doesnt support track control or voice control iPhone 3G

I have gotten my Bluetooth Sony headset (DR-BT140Q) and a set of bluetooth speakers with phone function built-in that is sold by Softbank in Japan (SBS-BTSKT01/WH). To ALMOST work perfectly with my new iPhone 3GS. The biggest problem is that the skip forward and skip back function doesnt work. Also although I can get the redial last number called function to work and can have a phone call come in and the music go down, answer the call, and talk on the internal mics in each of the products, I cannot get them to allow me to do do voice control/dialing (Both external devices support A2DP, AVRCP, HSP, and HFP profiles)It would be really great if Apple supported the ability to skip or go back on tracks and use the voice control with future 3.0 upgrades.I read in the article at http://www.ilounge.com/index.php/articles/comments/what-to-expect-stereo-bluetooth-iphone-3g-with-iphone-os-30/ that this is just how things are at this point but it would be really great if Apple supported the ability to skip or go back on tracks and use the voice control with future 3.0 upgrades. 32GB Black iPhone OS 3.0 Carrier is Softbank in Japan

My new 3G is great. However...My previous phone had a feature that the iPhone lacks. I used that feature to provide an alert that I wanted, and Im wondering how to use features, apps, etc of the iPhone to recreate that alerting service.1. My own Alert2. How I did it on my previous phone3. How to do it on the iPhone??1. My own AlertI want to have an immediate telephone alert (of some kind) when an email arrives into my gmail account that is from a specific list of senders (like FROM: <SomeoneSpecial>@<MyGmailAcount>.com) or any e-mail to my business account ( <anyone>@<MyBusiness>.com ).2. How I did it on the previous phoneI set up <MyBusiness>.com to forward any emails, and gmail to forward emails from my that someone special, to another e-mail address. That forwarding e-mail address was the e-mail address of the phone: <phone-number>@phone-provider.com (or something like that). Yes, those phones had an e-mail address and could directly receive e-mail. (I know that this is not the case for the iPhone.) The other phone would receive this e-mail as a data message, not an IM, so I didnt need or have text messaging on that phone. When it received such an e-mail, it would sound an alert, and I could see the e-mail on the phone.In this way, I was able to know immediately when I received a high-value e-mail at my other e-mail addresses. Iphone 3GS Email issue

I just purchased an Iphone 3GS (previous owner of 3G) Had email setup through Push with my works Exchange server with out any problems.Now, every so often I try to send an email with an attachment(or forward it)it gets stuck in my out box and wont send.I have full signal!Error: Cannot Send Mail An Error occurred while delivering your this message.Ever since I have upgraded to 3GS I have been having issues sending email. How I consolidate apps iPhone 3G

Since updating my 3G to version 3.0 my apps are spread over 6 screens instead of the original 4. And they are not longer organized the way I had them.The first screen is blank! Problems Restore it and set up as new phone iPhone

Hi all,Ive been going around and around in circles trying to fix my dodgy connection problems on my iPhone 3G 3.0. Was having major issues with connectivity, poor signal, dropped or forward-to-voicemail incoming calls, poor sound quality etc and 0 signal in some rooms in my flat.After weeks of discussions with O2, apple and you good folk here on the forums whats the solution?Restore and set up as a new phone! Dont restore from a backup!The problem here seems to be that any corrupted or duplicate settings get pushed back to the phone and the problems just carry over if you restore from a backup. By setting up as a new phone all that seems to be fixed.I have now gone from an average of 1-2 bars in my basement flat with terrible connectivity issues to 4-5 bars and 0 connectivity issues. This is in a small basement flat with thick walls. In rooms I previously had 0 signal in I now get on average 2-3 bars. Thats a huge improvement for 20 mins work.It may seem like an obvious suggestion but if others, like myself, have simply been restoring from a backup in order to save a little time setting everything up, then you should definitely consider restoring and setting up as new. It only took me around 15 mins to get all my email and calendar accounts working again, sync over a few albums, photos, google sync up my contacts and away you go, and the actual restore process only takes a few mins as we all know.If youre at the end of your tether (no pun intended!) Id advise doing this. Youll be surprised how much better your phone will perform.Cheers PC Windows Vista 64-bit

Viewing Multi Page tiff files received as email attachments on iPhone 3G

I have spent hours trying to find a solution or a work-around to the problem of viewing multi page tiff ( .tif) email attachments on my iPhone 3G running 3.0. I have only ever been able to view the first page of these files. Finally I decided to come up with my own solution. I have recently launched the website www.econvertimage.com. Anyone can now freely email tiff files to the site from their phone. These files are converted to pdf and then returned to the sender for viewing on their phone.You can set up an auto forward for attachments coming from specific senders if you like. This way you will often receive the converted file at the same time as the original email. iPhone 3GS rattle loose part problem think my auto-focus camera just broke

I have noticed that my iPhone 3GS has had a loose part rattle problem since I purchased the unit last month. It seemed to be the cameras auto focus unit. I held it in the sunlight, and watched the camera lens black disk move forward and backwards while touching the camera front screens in camera mode. As the little focus box tries to macro focus or grab where I focus the lens moves. I can hear the rattle when I set the unit down on any hard surface or tap the back of the unit by the camera lens & top power button (see video)Its been getting worse, then seemed to get a better after my 3 mile treadmill run today... App store problem- very confused iPhone 3G

Hi everyone.Ok, Ill try to explain this as best as I can.When I tried to download anything from the app store, it said my username/password was incorrect (which it was totally correct- I checked on my iTunes account several times). I got fed up with this, so I created a brand new iTunes account. After doing this, the password and everything worked fine.Fast forward to the current issue- some of my apps require updates. When I try to update them (either one by one or using the update all option), it brings up my OLD iTunes account name even AFTER I sync it with my iTunes on my computer logged in with the NEW iTunes account. I was using the iMail app for forwarding emails to comtact groups. Before 3.0 the app worked like a charm and really saved time not having to select all the email addresses to forward emails to. MY SETUPIve been using my iPhone with a (ridiculous looking) dongle/blutooth transmitter and a Sony Ericsson HBH DS-980 Stereo Bluetooth Headset. I found this to work VERY well, regardless of the This device was not designed to work with the iPhone message when u attach the dongle...A. MISSING FUNCTIONS1. The headset Next & Previous buttons no longer workBEFORE: I could move to the next/prev song by pressing the appropriate button on the Headset... didnt even have to touch the iphone. NOW: I have to activate the iphone screen, unlock the phone and then touch the next/prev button on the screen.2. Fast- forward/rewind no longer workBEFORE: Using the same buttons as above, you could get the song to play in 2X fast mode - great if you wanted to scan ahead, back to a place in a podcast or song.NOW: Not available at all.BUGTheres a VERY noticeable delay/gap in the music every so often now. I know sometimes people come to forum to see feed back on everyones experience on updating to new firmware. I know I do. But typically only folks with bad experience post, so I thought I would post how my update went (Good - No Problems). 1st let me say that when I do updates thought iTunes, I do Download only, I dont Download and install. I then do the Install when it is finished.Here is my experience, which I posted on Facebook:My iPhone 3.0 update review (on a iPhone 3G) Im always a bit worried that something will go wrong when doing a major update like this, but all went well. Ill start with my complaint, and its more for AT&T. Please turn on the MMS. Cut/copy/paste - Oh thank you, thank you. And finally we have it. It works great. Spotlight Search - As far as I can tell, works as designed Voice Memos - Cool app, works as designed, You can do tweak the start and end points, but dont think you could cut out a middle section. I wish the update included the Voice Control that the 3GS had. Oh well Calendar improvements - looks good Stereo Bluetooth - Not tested Auto Wifi login - Worked great this morning at Starbucks, downtown Houston in the Tunnel. Yes, Yes Notes Sync - I may need help on this one, I think you have to have Outlook, or Outlook Express to sync to a PC, which I dont use at home. Emailing Multiple pics - Yes, finally, no more emailing one pic at a time from my iPhone. I think there is a max. of five at a time. Dont know if I would try this on EDGE. Probably would be a bit slow. Landscape typing - works (was not high on my wish list) Looking forward to some apps with Push Notification!! iPhone OS 3.0

OS 3.0 Realease Date iPhone 3G

Hi everyone forgive me as i dont normaly come on the forums to complain about my iPhone as i never have any issues with mine even from the time i bought it but!if i recall the 3.0 OS was supposed to be realeased today in australia on the 17th of June thats what my service provider told me through sms alert and my local shop even the Australian Apple site said 3.0 realeased June 17th well its june 17th and its now saying i have to wait another day? im a bit dissapointed in this as i was really looking forward to this update.this really is much to complain about but i just felt let down and dissapointed and wanted to vent my dissapoint ment sad face = Lenovo Windows XP

This may be obvious, but not to me, so thought I would ask. On the Apple site, it talks about the new messages features in 3.0 (Send messages with text, video, photos, audio, locations, and contact information. You can even forward one or more messages to others)but underneath all that it says MMS support from AT&T coming in late summer. I WENT to apples website and reserve (without having to pay) a GS phone... so i reserved a black 16GB GS.. ok.. then it says in fine print this doesnt guarantee you get one that day - phones sold first come first served..i can pick it up from the apple store on 6-19...im reminded of the seinfeld episode where jerry tries to rent a car, and he goes to the rental agency and they dont have the car he reserved.. he says something about the agency knowing how to take a reservation but not HOLD the reservation.so this means lets say for example, 5 people reserved phones, and lets say i am #4.and lets say that apple gets 5 phones on 6-19and lets say that i am #6 in line.. even though i reserved my phone, i wouldnt get it?Thanks for reserving your iPhone. I was really looking forward to getting a new Iphone 3GS.Being stuck in the US with ATT; which has no MMS; tethering; No 7.2 HSPA and might not have 7.2 till 2011.Why upgrade or get a new 3GS?Wont I be just as well off if I get the current 3G; at least until ATT upgrade their network.No one knows when that will be.Apple you need to DUMP ATT as your USA exclusive carrier or Kick them in the butt and get something done. I have the blackberry curve and I have been wanting the Iphone for a couple years now. I cannot make the switch because of two key features that I cannot confirm or deny with the Iphone. So my search brings me here. I know several people with IPhone that cannot answer these questions.First Reason; Call forwarding - I am on my second Blackberry and I must say the forwarding option BlackBerry offers is great! Here is how it goes. there are 4 forwarding options.A. forward all calls: This option forwards all calls to a phone number of your choiceB. forward calls if phone is busy to a phone number of your choiceC. forward calls for no reply to a phone number of your choiceD. forward calls if not reachable to a number of your choiceNow here is why this is great. I travel full time and run a business in which I receive a lot of calls. I can setup my blackberry so that when I see a call come I can take it or forward it to my next cell, or to my girlfriends cell phone, or to a land line, or to VM. I can setup up the phone to forwards in all kinds of situations. But the ability to forward the call to my girlfriend where ever she is is just out of this world good! My customers think we are in the office! Second reason; Push Email, I cannot confirm or deny this is how it works! Everyone I know with an IPhone says I think I get my email right away I cannot find anywhere on Apples website that directly answers this question.Let me know if you have these answers please. Iphone screen-vertical grey and coloured lines 3G

Would be interesting to know if anyone else has had a similar problem and how they got on. The phone has not been dropped or water damaged and last night a white screen appeared with grey and subsequently coloured vertical lines. It was on the table and working one minute and as described the next. The phone is still receiving messages, emails and calls because I can hear the bleeps but the screen is stuck on the vertical lines. I tried to reset etc but nothing. When plugging it into itunes all the information was still there. I tried a restore but still nothing.I have arranged to send it back to Apple but I am concerned that they are going to say it is not covered - I know I should wait and see but it would be comforting to know if anyone else has had a similar issue.Thanks in advance. I had an original IPhone and it has water damage. I had bought it before the new 3Gs came out. I need to know if I can send or forward a draft email (from any mail client as I have a few) what I mean is I have a a few generic emails I need to send to clients when Im on the road. I have some stored in the drafts folder of my Mail app on my G5. So I would need to pick a generic draft copy, paste into a newly composed email, add some new text within the draft and send.Last I remember I Phone has no copy and paste feature, is this still the case? happy with ATT coverage iPhone 3G

I for one, am not. I love the iPhone, but it is getting increasingly difficult to make and receive calls on AT&T. In Maryland, it appears to me that AT&Ts service is getting worse. My business partner also has the 3g iPhone, and is experiencing the same problems.Dropped calls with the phone showing 5 bars, 30+ seconds to initiate calls, garbled fast forward sounds when initiating some calls, voice mails that take 20 minutes to show up. Sure seems to me that AT&T has oversold their network.As much as I love the 3g iPhone, if the Palm Pre works as advertised, I may switch. I never had coverage problems on Sprints CDMA network...AT&Ts GSM coverage in my neck of the woods is pitiful. Win XP Windows XP

Keys punch themselves iPhone 3G

This happens typically a little after i start my iPhone 3G 16GB in the morning. The keys go crazy and start punching wildly regardless of the app I am using - Mail, Safari, Notes. The keystrokes are so random that it changes my bookmarks, selects addressees, starts voice calls. The only thing that is effective in taming this behavior is the Home key but I end up reseting the phone these days. However, today I got disabled for 60 minutes due to the keys auto punching the wrong passcode several times. Hence this post, I look forward to suggestions.I am using iTunes 8.1 and my iPhone is on Ver 2.2.1 Lenovo Thinkpad X60 Windows XP Pro

Jensen VM9512 software upgrade iPhone

I just got off the phone with the Jensen tech support and they mentioned they had a software upgrade for this car stereo head unit, resolving some of the issues with the iPhone address book transfer and general Bluetooth reliability. Then I was passed on to customer service to discuss how to obtain the upgrade but I ran into a roadblock as they insisted that another department is actually handling this upgrade and I cant talk directly to them, they would forward my request instead and someone would call me back. Oh well ...Has anybody done this upgrade yet? If yes, what are the fixes? Is it worth it jumping through all these hoops? MacBook Pro, 15.3", 4GB RAM Mac OS X (10.5.6)

How will apple be able to tell if my phone damaged from an accident iPhone 3G

Hi, I have various things wrong with my phone. About two months ago the casing of my Iphone 3G had cracks showing on it. I searched it up online and it has happened to numerous other people. So I thought ok I can over look it and still use my phone since it still works great and everything. Then fast forward to about a month ago and my Home button stops working completely, so then I was reduced to restarting my phone to get to the home page until I had the chance to call apple. Then around the same time the Home button stopped working the top silver button on the phone came off!! I could still turn on the phone from where the silver button was. I just had to push down with my nail which wasnt that troubling for me. So now I am at school restarting my phone to go to the home page and when it restarts it tells me i need to connect to Itunes. So then I cannot do anything on the phone till I am home and able to connect the phone to my imac. I connect the phone and it says my Sim card is not in the phone etc. I do all that I can to fix it. I finally call apple which I admit I should have done along time ago but seriously do not have any time during the day. I tell the representative the problem about my sim card and mention my home button. He says my phone should be replaceable and sent me a box to return my phone in for them to either fix it or replace it. I realized after I hung up that I forgot to ask what is accidental damage which is not covered under my warranty. Would that be the silver button falling off (which I forgot to mention) Or would it be the cracks on the white casing? I have only dropped my phone once and am afraid they will find some reason not to replace or fix my phone. Should I stay worried? Any input on if they might fix my phone or not? I sent it off today. static in speaker when making call or receiving one 3G iPhone

I have terrible static on my 3G phone when making or receiving calls. The person on the other end doesnt hear the static, only on my side. Sounds like bacon frying. Anyone else ever experienced this problem? I bought the phone the same time as my wifes and she doesnt have this problem. I bought the warranty but should I go to ATT or apple to try to get it replaced. I am not looking forward to getting the run around. All iformation would be most appreciated Apple 3G

To buy or not to buy now iPhone 3G

Hi I am actually looking forward to getting myself an iphone 3G. But after surfing the net, i found some site saying that there will be a release of a new iphone model during june. I live in Singapore usually i think the iphone will take a few months before coming over to asia.My question is the rumour true? And is it worth to wait for the new iphone and get that and be an early adopter or stick to the 3g and get the 3.0 OS update?

Great new iphone idea

Hope Apple heads/programmers reads this. It would be nice to have a button to either enable or disable individuals within my contact list, to/from texting me or to out-right disable incoming text from numbers that are not included in my contact list. I really hate when people forward unwanted text to me. This feature would also address the virus, stalker, ex-girlfriend/boyfreind, spam text problem or any other stuff thats unwanted, especially with the new 3.0 upgrade, which includes video,voice(MMS)texting. Most of Apples Iphone users are kids and sexting is a big concern,not to mention paying for unlimited text when I dont really need to. Last, I would love, love to be able delete a single incoming/outgoing/missed phone calls not the whole thing, and I dont need to save it in my contacts just to keep it. Please Apple, these things are pretty standard. Just stop making your customers cry for basic features, especially for those who are on the fence about why they should buy an Iphone with limited capability, even though the Iphone is remarkable and ground-breaking. Thank you
