I'm sorry, but Apple does not provide a downgrade path for iOS. Because downgrading is unsupported by Apple we cannot discuss it on these forums, but you can use Google to find information on how to install an older version of iOS on any iDevice.
Hello. I am trying to unlock a phone for someone using their new Simple Mobile carrier. I read online that Simple Mobile uses Tmobile towers, so the iphone can work if it is unlocked. I have also unlocked my own iphone for tmobile, so I know this is true. The Iphone is unlocked, but it keeps forcing me to activate it when I put in the new sim card. When I try to activate it, it says that the simcard is not supported.when I insert the old at&t sim, it can activate, but the sim is a fake, its not a working card, so I am baffled. Once its "activated" with the old sim, I try to switch them, but it will always force the activation screen on me when I use the simple mobile card. -I have tried restoring the iphone-I have tried hard restarting the iphone. I did this before on my 4 on tmobile with no problems. So Im just doing the same thing I did then. Does anyone know how or have any tips for activating the iphone using an unsupported sim?

Hello there. Bought an unlocked Iphone 4s in France thus it is supposed to work with any sim card provided. The problem is that it says that my sim not valid because I am using unsupported carrier< while I have used two different mobile operators. I can not even activate my phone. What to do? Apple support says something like: "We don't know": Russian Restore says: It is not our problem. No one really cares! Apple help!Serial is MD242F/A.
I have a USB2.0 hub connected to my MacBook Pro 15 and have always connected my iPhone through this, even my iPhone 4. After the update to 4.3.1, iPhone 4 now bawks at my connecting through this USB hub. There are no other connections except this hub and, when I disconnect and go straight to the USB port on the Mac using the same cable, I have no error. Since when is a USB hub not an unsupported accessory? 15" MacBook Pro i5 / 500Gb HD + 8Gb RAM Mac OS X (10.6.7) 27" iMac, 24" iMac, 20" iMacG5, AppleTV, iPhone3G, AEBS, AX

The iPhone 4 supports H264, MP4 & Motion JPEG file formats only. However, most common video formats also include FLV, AVI, RMVB, WMV, etc. I understand there are two ways to resolve it. One is to convert the unsupported file formats to one that supported by iPhone 4. The other one is to use other media player that can support more video file formats. Which way is the best solution? Thanks! MacBook Air, iMac 27" Mac OS X (10.6.5) iPhone 4 - iOS 4.2.1
Not sure if this is a phone or app issue. I shot a video on my phone, uploaded to Facebook using the app, I see it there. I can play it back on a PC and watch it. But if I click that video in my Facebook feed from my phone, I get an error message that the video is in an unsupported format for the phone. Any ideas? Mac Mini iOS 4
Apples website and iPhone user manual dont say much about unsupported new features on the 3G. However, Ive already found that Safaris new Find in Page feature is just not there on my 3G. I know where the feature is supposed to be (at the bottom of the search suggestions), but its just not there. What seems especially puzzling to me is that I cant fathom what technical limitation is in the 3G that would prevent this feature from being implemented. (kinda lame Apple). Can anyone else confirm if this feature is present or absent on their 3G?Thanks iPhone 3G iOS 4

OK so my 3G would play all the music videos I had on it with 3.1.3 but when Ive upgraded to 4.0 I find some that iTunes 9.2.1 wont sync as it says theyre the wrong format even though previous versions of iTunes were fine and they played on the 3G. I also find that some of the videos that iTunes 9.2.1 will sync, dont actually play any more on the 3G - I get an unsupported format error when clicking on them.So it looks like Apple tightened up the checking in 9.2.1 but didnt get it right matching that with 4.0.1, and neither of them is correct in terms of matching the hardware.Im now left with videos that used to play but dont any more. Im putting in a bug report directly to Apple, but Im left very disappointed with the way Apple has handled the 4.0 upgrade. Anyone else having these sort of problems? All of a sudden today when I plug in my iPhone 3g, itunes gives a message; The SIM card inserted in this iPhone does not appear to be supportedMy iPhone has only ever had one SIM card (the one currently installed) and has always worked and synced perfectly. The phone is still working properly it simply will now not sync with itunes.Any advice / feedback would be greatly appreciated. iMac 24", MacBook Pro Mac OS X (10.6.2) iPhone 3g
I have almost 2 years old iPhone 3G, which has worked just well. Just recently i have faced couple of new problems, which I will explain in detail later in this message. First some background information: I have always updated my iPhone using iTunes on iMac, always used the latest version of iPhone OS (currently v. 3.1.2) and always used applications only loaded/purchased from Appstore. So no tricks or unsupported operations. After the latest OS update I have experienced couple of new problems. Firstly old existing WiFi-connections are not any more as stable / reachable than before, for some reason. Secondly I have noticed, that when I plug the standard Apple iPhone headset (came with iPhone) the phone really gets stuck / very very slow, not responding at all or just extremely slowly. This morning I had to reboot the phone few times to get it up and running and now I have problems to open non-iPhone-original applications in my phone. When I touch the icon of such an application, the application starts and then the phone closes the application immediately, I can only seen the flash of the applications first screen. All the original iPhone applications are working fine, but all of the non-original iPhone are acting as described above.Has anyone else had these kind of problems with iPhone headset? And how to resolve this non-original iPhone applications startup failures?Regards, mackva iPhone 3G iPhone OS 3.1.2 iMac
Hi thereI went on a motorcycle ride in the morning and i got into rain. So the IPhone was getting quite wet. It worked, some strange errors like something unsupported is connected to the Iphone, enter Flightmode blablaAt home i dryed the iPhone with warm air and into the sun. I connected to Itunes and Itunes wants me to restore the iPhone. There the trouble starts. The progressgrafic on iPhone stops allways between felt 48 to 55% and i have to restart ITunes to start over and over again. What do you think? The iPhone has gone? Monitor works fine while updateprogress. Thanks in advance for any hint. I will leave tommorow for vacanciones and would love to take my iPhone with navigationsoftware with me. 3G iPhone OS 3.0
My cable and everything worked fine in 2.2, upgraded to 3.0, and now I get the dreaded unsupported Accessory message and it shuts down the video-out port! I even downgraded back down to 2.2 just to make sure thats what it was. Tested again on the downgraded 2.2, and sure enough, it worked fine!! No unsupported errors, nothing, just video working the way it should. ***, Apple??!!!! Why cant Apple leave this stuff alone! I had to buy a new cable going to the 3G and it looks like Ill need to spend more $$ on an Apple cable! I can ALMOST justify this happening with changing to new hardware, but a software update should NOT kill something thats working perfectly fine in the previous version!!!!!!!!!!Message was edited by: Whatthe... Hi, after installing version 2.2 on my iphone it would not start up, and it was working perfectly, now giving me an unsupported sim message....what do i do now? please help! P4 Windows XP
How can I purchase an iPhone for use in an unsupported country without having to pay for a subscription plan that I wont be able to use?I would like to purchase an iPhone for my wife, but neither the country I live in currently (Tunisia) nor the country we are moving to (Morocco) has an authorized iPhone distributor. Both have GSM service, however, so many of the features still work. I would prefer to do so legally and not have to go through some bootlock unlocking process. Thanks and regards,Matthew MacBook 2.2 Mhz Mac OS X (10.5.6)
Greetings,I am infact running Windows 7 Beta Build 7000, which is fully compatible with Windows Vista, so lets not start the whole BETA unsupported trend.I believe, which may be untrue, that I am computer savvy...and this situation has me scratching my head. When syncing my iPhone, everything seems to go okay until the end. It seems all music files are synced properly, and I am noticing no issues with the phone. I suddenly get a nice message box...Attempting to copy to the disk eLements iPone failed. You do not have enough access priveleges for this operation. iTunes could not save to your music folder because you do not have write access. Check permissions on your Music Folder and folders in your Music Folder, then try copying the file again.First off. Im not sure if it means C:UsersTim HeckmanMusic or M:Music (The latter is where my actual MP3s are stored). Second, I have no idea what its trying to copy.Ive reset permissions on my user music folder, and I also reset permissions on my music folder inside of my M: drive...both yielded no results.I added music, last night, the same way I have for years now. The good ol click and drag, and never have I had this issue before. Now suddenly iTunes wants to go on a rampage and tell me that my computer is full of fail...I wish the error message was a bit more verbose. What file are you trying to copy iTunes, what directory do you want write access to...-sigh-Does anyone have any insight as I am starting to think about pulling my hair out...Thanks for the help,Tim Dell Dimension 8300 Other OS Windows 7
I have a complicated problem, or so it seems. Ive tried to search apple support/forums and nothing answers my situation.Original iPhone purchased in USA about 1 year ago, always used AT&T, never unlocked.I have been in Jordan for 4 days now on an extended visit. Before leaving the states, I suspended my AT&T phone service to avoid international charges. I would still like to use the phone to take photos, listen to iPod, use wirelessly.Stupidly, I purchased a local SIM and attempted to activate the iPhone with it. Obviously, iTunes rejected the SIM, so I replaced it with the original AT&T SIM and put the local SIM in the Nokia provided to my by my company and it works fine.iPhone seemed to work fine with AT&T SIM after replacing until I connected it to iTunes to install the latest software update. Recieved error message stating ITUNES CANNOT ACTIVATE BECAUSE SIM NOT INSERTED OR SIM PIN REQUIRED. Phone no longer works, asks me to plug into iTunes (to activate).I have tried reinserting SIM several times. I have performed hard reset on the phone a few times. I have plugged into iTunes several times, always same result.I have not been able to restore the phone because iTunes thinks it has not been activated (cannot access iPhone via iTunes).I have not been able to enter default PIN, because phone will only allow an emergency call, (cannot access SETTINGS).When pressing INFO button from screen telling me to plug into iTunes, IMEI number doesnt appear to be default (begins 01... ends 15 1), ICCID: unknown. What has caused my problem? iTunes didnt like that I tried to activate foreign/unsupported SIM? Could it be caused by software update? The fact my phone account is suspended? Bad SIM?Anything I have forgotten? Id like to avoid calling Apple unless I know the phone can actually be fixed while Im here.Lastly, is it possible to purchase an Orange SIM (local Jordanian iPhone provider) for use while abroad on a locked USA iPhone? Hello,Ive just got an iPhone 3G, I went educating my self of the ways to install applications and stuff on it, whenever I reach the page of installing any free application iTunes starts telling me that its not yet supported in my country (Egypt), how could they sell a phone inside a country that they dont support the main core of applications and media store in.Any reasonable explanation ? any alternative ? This will probably get deleted, but have many other people in Australia had problems when trying to legally have their iPhone 3G unlocked? My original 2G iPhone died, and I purchased a new iPhone 3G, locked to Telstra. I paid the required locking fee, and they pushed the information to Apple. Now, Telstra dont do the unlocking, Apple does it through iTunes, so I am not blaming Telstra. Its now 3 days after purchase, and all I have is a very shiny, very expensive black paperweight. To say I am very very unhappy with Apple is to be quite conservative. I am quite unimpressed at the unsupported SIM message in iTunes, and I fear that I am going to kill my SIM removing it from one phone, putting it into the iPhone, and then removing it again every time I want to find out if Apple have deemed me worthy.I paid for this phone. I own it. I am to the point of calling Apple and demanding it be unlocked. I have purchased a lot of Apple gear over the years. Mac OS X (10.5.5)
my iPhone 3G has stopped synchronising contacts and calendar. I make changes on my Macbook and they synch correctly to mobileme but not to the iphone. On another post it has been suggested to turn synch off for contacts and calendar on the iPhone - But as I am travelling internationally I am reluctant to change the contact/mail synch settings on the iPhone as it says that iPhone contacts and calendar entries will be removed and I worry that they will not correctly resynchronise, so i will have no contact or calendar information at all...I am having another problem whereby iTunes now says that the SIM in the iPhone appears to be unsupported. This happened when the iPhone started connecting and disconnecting from the carrier and rebooting... This is an Australian iPhone and the US roaming partners are T-Mobile and AT&T. The connect/disconnect problem was happening when 3G was turned on and the iPhone roaming function connected to T-Mobile. It stopped when I turned 3G off - and now I have selected roaming ONLY to AT&T.Anyone have any ideas? I am not back in Australia for some weeks so I cannot get a replacement Optus SIM card and the iPhone is locked to Optus... Funny, I posted a post along these lines a couple of hours ago - Tamara, whoever she is, replied (thanks Tamara - but I havent opened the phone - I still have the Optus SIMM installed. T-mobile must be the roaming partner for Optus here in NYC...)My iPhone started playing up yesterday. It continually dropped out of range with T-Mobile and then started a cycle of resetting continually. I fixed that problem by turning off 3G and the phone has settled down. Not before I lost all my SMS history though...And now it will no longer synch - iTunes says the SIMM card is unsupported and that I should get a new one. It is an Optus SIMM - there is no Optus office in NYC and I wont be back in Australia for weeks. So my iPhone is crippled!!!! I cant get a local SIMM because the phone is locked to Optus in Australia and I cant synch the phone or restore the settings. Also my calendar entries on the iPhone are all about 10 hours into the future - some timezone issue I guess. You can only add countries that are on the list. What has Apple got against Sri Lanka? Or dont they have an atlas at Apple???<Edited by Moderator>The charges for normal phone roaming are HUGE. I pay $1.50 for every SMS message, whether I send it or receive it. Calls cost $1.50 per minute. I dont even dare turn on data roaming, so unless you are in a WiFi hotspot the maps feature, which would be great for travelling, is simply too expensive to use.I love my iPhone (except for the lack of cut and paste - this drives me crazy!!!) but I hate my telecoms supplier, Optus. Their customer service *****...And if something goes wrong, you are on your own, without a working phone, until you can get home...The bottom line is, nice phone - useless for travelling... I am travelling with an iPhone 3G from Optus Australia. Its a disaster. The roaming charges are so high it makes the phone almost unusable ($1.50 for every SMS message - incoming and outgoing). I dont even dare turn on data roaming - it costs $1.10 per 1kb of data.Yesterday my iPhone started dropping in and out of reception with T-Mobile in NYC. Then it started rebooting itself. Now it wont synch on iTunes - I get a message saying that it is using an unsupported SIMM and to go get a new one. I also noticed that all my appointments are now showing up on the wrong day (timezone problem?) making my iPhone calendar useless...Well I cant get a new one until I return home in 3 weeks time. I cant get a replacement (local) SIMM because the phone is locked to Optus, and no-one can ever get any sense out of Optus woeful customer support. Also, Apple (like many US companies) is not very internationally aware... I tried to add the address for a friend of mine in Sri Lanka - oops, Apple didnt read this part of their atlas... Sri Lanka doesn;t even exist in the list of countries and you cannot add a new one... Shame on you Apple! The bottom line is DONT TRAVEL OVERSEAS WITH A LOCKED IPHONE. Make sure you can get a local SIMM to avoid the outrageous roaming charges, and dont ever deal with Optus... Mind you, everyone hates their phone companies... Perhaps Apple will decide, in the end, they have to build a phone company too... My iPhone 3G does not ring over the headset when the standard Apple headset/mic is connected. It rings on the phone, but not over the headset. This poses a problem when the enviornmental noise exceeds that of the ringer on the phone. Normally (like on an N95 for example) one would expect that phone to ring over the headset. I took my phone to an Apple Genius today, and he also expected it to ring. When I discussed this with a non-Genius at my local Apple store yesterday, he demonstrated this feature to be working. However after spending time with the Genius today, it appears to be an unsupported feature. I got a replacement which behaved in the same manor, and then we tried the Geniuss own phone (1st Generation iPhone) which also didnt ring over the head set. Since its already been replaced I figure is a design flow. As my speaker / headset generally works to play music, I am hopeful that 2.2 will address this. If your iPhone rings over the head set when connected please reply. And yes I have tried to turn up the Ringer (on headset) volume. This is another topic which is also rather funny. Depending on the application I am accessing it either shows Ringer Volume or Ringer Volume (on Headset) rather then on the state if the headset is connected or not. Maybe this has something to do with it?Any suggestions on this are greatly appreciated.
I am aware of the firewire/usb charger change that affects 3G. When plugging the phone into my old firewire based dock I get the usual unsupported charger... airplane mode... message, but then the phone seems to charge anyway. My question is, are there any issues with charging this way? No negative affects on the battery, etc...? Dell Windows XP
