iphone 3G frozen after recent OS update. Now stuck on restore

Today I updated my iphones OS (original OS - not jailbroken) and after having downloaded the new OS, itunes attempted to install the new OS onto my 3G iPhone. when the phone freezes, it has an apple logo and progress bar on the screen. It ALWAYS freezes at approximately 20% according to the phone screen. Itunes freezes at 50% when it is restoring iphone software.I have restarted my iphone over 3 times (by pressing and holding down both the power and the circle button) and the phone does restart but tells me to plug it into itunes. When I plug it into my computer and connect to itunes, itunes tells me i need to:check the iphone software update server to identify this deviceI click check and this works ok. However another error message pops up that says:iTunes has detected an iphone in recovery mode. You must restore this phone before it can be used in itunes.I click ok and then press restore and it seem sto work except that it freezes again as i described above.Ive noticed other people are experiencing similar problems and wondered if they have found any solutions to this? Would really appreciate ANY help as at this state, my iphone is BRICK that doesnt work as either a phone, gaming console, or organiser.I am very disappointed with Apple for releasing an OS that in effect disables the core purpose of the iphone (a PHONE!!!) and now have lost confidence in their products. iphone 3G very unhappy custome

Ive already called Apple and dont have access to a store. I get 3/4 of the way through the firmware update and it gives me an error. Very frustrating. Anyone have the same problem? dear apple fix your stupid ios4 iphone 3g issues or die

seriously? i shouldnt have to downgrade the operating system, or wait for weeks or months while you play with iphone 4 and the ipad and try to revamp the ipods of yesteryear. my phone freezes almost every time a call comes in, it wont load contacts and there is no menu while i am dialing a phone number. everything else works great but you see, the only thing is i have an iphone not an ipod touch so making calls is a pretty important thing here. my mom is whining about me not answering her calls because she has a 3gs and so does my step dad and they are begining to believe i am making it up about these issues....and its your stupid fault for not fixing the stupid issues.so please fix your operating system before i do the unthinkable and take my business to another carrier with an unlocked and jailbroken device. jerks! Drivers install incorrectlyno detected by iTunes super tl dr material iPhone 3G

I have an iphone 3G running iOS4.01 and the latest version of iTunes.I dont know how it started. I was updating to iTunes 10 and I lost power to my computer (iPhone was not connected at the time). After a reboot, I uninstalled iTunes because it would no longer run (shutdown in middle of installation does that). Then I downloaded and installed iTunes 10.0.0.68. Everything seemed fine. I even bought a song or two. I wanted to sync that song to my iPhone so I connected it to my computer. I have set custom sounds in windows so that it lets me know when a device connects. The connect sound plays but the iPhone does not start to charge, nor does iTunes pop open, nor does windows explorer pop open with device options. Nothing happens. So I open up devices and it shows me the usual stuff but categorized under unknown is Apple Mobile Device USB or something like that with a warning explanation point ! next to it telling me that there is an error with it. So I right click and select troubleshoot. Cant fix problem. So I open up the (almost) never failing google and start searching. I find a mind-boggling amount of cases similar but usually with an iPod not an iPhone and those were solvable. I finally get to one that says that I should try resetting my iPhone and making connect in recovery mode. So I hold the power and home buttons down until the iPhone turns off. I open iTunes, hold down the home button and connect the iPhone. The Connect to iTunes screen appears... and nothing happens. Not immediately, not after 30 minutes. Nothing (except for the iPhone timing out and powering off again). So then I take a huge leap of faith and decide to actually use apples support page. After sorting through stuff designed for the mentally challenged who cannot locate the home button, I find http://support.apple.com/kb/ts1538 .This is exactly the problem I am having and yet following the instructions brings up problems That I havent seen before. So I follow the instructions like a good dog and locate the driver under Universal Serial Bus controllers and as per the instructions I uninstalled it. I then Scan for hardware changes. This is where the instructions start to seem non applicable. As it said it would, scanning for hardware changes found and installed drivers from the iPhone. But instead of installing the Apple Mobile Device driver, I now have a device under portable devices called Apple iPhone. This seemed fine but...iTunes still failed to recognize it. Windows seemed to think that the device is some sort of camera (applying a camera icon to it in the simple device manager). Windows explorer popped up this time and I can see all the photos on my iPhone and copy them and all but it still wants to think this is a camera. The iPhone charges now at least. The instructions continue and I try to follow. It says to search for updates to the Apple Mobile Device driver. Because this is not there and there seems to be no way of getting it there, I apply this to the Apple iPhone under Portable Devices. Everything seems to run smoothly until: Click the Browse button, then navigate to the following location: C:Program FilesCommon FilesAppleMobile Device SupportDrivers. it seems to tell me that if I am on a 64-bit edition of windows (as I am) I should search for it under C:Program Files (x86)Common FilesAppleMobile Device SupportDrivers. but in that location the drivers folder in that location doesnt exist (I dont have 32-bit iTunes installed I guess.) So I go to the C:Program FilesCommon FilesAppleMobile Device SupportDrivers directory instead and not only does the folder exist but the file is there too. The file usbaapl64 is there and the instructions seem to imply that I should use it if I am 64-bit windows. So I try to use it.BAM! Another problem: The folder you specified doesnt contain a compatible software driver for your device. If the folder contains a driver (which it does), make sure it is designed to work with Windows for x64-based systems.Seriously. What do I do now? Modified HP Pavillion Elite iOS 4 Windows 7 64 bit.

Question about SGP Oleophobic screen protector iPhone 4

I just ordered one of the SGP Ultra Oleophobic protectors and was curious about their longevity. I never used a screen protector on my 3g and never had a scratch, but after some of the horror stories Ive heard, I decided to put one on my iP4. Anyway, I dont have much a frame of reference as to how long these things last. Should I expect to buy a set twice a year/every two months? Weird Problem Enabling 3G from EDGE works only with airplane mode iPhone 4

Hi all,My first iphone 4 had this issue of remaining in EDGE even when turned to 3G and on enabling/disabling airplane mode it turns to 3G with full bars. So assuming there was a hardware/software issue with iphone 4 i sold it. I got another iphone 4 from different country and the same above issue haunts me.In Iphone 3Gs enabling 3G from EDGE takes place quick in the same area and and the same network as iphone 4. I would like to know whether:1. Issue is with hardware/software of iphone 4.2. anybody else having the same issue.3. Is it a network error. Finally i guess apple should seriously consider enhancing 3G and wifi reception in the upcomming update 4.1 What could be the problem? iphone 4 iOS 4 mac book

My iPhone 4 will not connect to my home network no matter what I try. The network is not secured and has always worked fine with the old 3gs. It works fine with my sons iPhone 4 but not mine or my wifes. When I try to connect it simply comes back with Unable to join the network.... I have the latest iPhone software update and it did the same before nd after that update. I have tried Forget this network Ive tried Renew lease and Ive tried restarting the router. Eventually it will connect but as soon as I leave the house and come back its the same old problem again.I dont think its a problem with the network as other devices work fine - even my ipad!!!I recently changed ISPs but have the same router.Any suggestions appreciated.ThanksDavid imac 3.06GHz Core 2 Duo Mac OS X (10.5.4)

intrinically safe IECEx IEC60079 iPhone 4

In oil & gas operations, cell phones and PDAs are typically banned because they’re considered intolerable risk for igniting potentially explosive environments. Consequently, we struggle to adopt innovative Smart Mobile Worker concepts at our plants. Same applies to mines, and strictly speaking, to the use of phones by consumers at gas stations where also you fill up your car. It’s not so much the RF energy, but more about what a hot spot or spark from a fault condition might trigger. We are currently evaluating to what extent real modern nearly all solid state and relatively speaking extreme low power devices such as the iPhone4 (but also iPod, ipad and MacBook Air with SSD) would need to be modified before they can be declared what we call ‘intrinsically safe’ for use in either Zone 1 (tough!) or Zone 2 (might be OK already). Meaning assess what would it take to pass testing as per IEC60079-11, or any other IEC60079 standard. Those that evaluate now ask if they can get circuit diagrams. I’d anticipate that Apple would decline. But one can always ask. Under NDA obviously. Plan B is that we get just an assessment of what the maximum voltages, currents can be inside the device, on PCBs and connectors, plus get an assessment on what the total capacity of all capacitors on board would be if we would place them all in parallel. A BOM would reveal that. Similar question for inductors. Would be really nice if a statement on iPhone4 (informal for now – this is just for initial feasibility assessment – no guarantees asked) can be made that says e.g:The maximum voltage inside, also under any plausible fault condition, is less than 8 Volts,The maximum current on any PCB track or connector is less than 4 A, also under single or dual fault conditions,Excluding the battery pack, the total capacity that theoretically would result from placing all C’s in parallel is below 500 uF, and,The total inductance that theoretically would results from all L’s in series, is less than 500 uH.The IP rating of the enclosure is IP44.Grateful for anyones assistance. It would be really appreciated if we can crack this. Together. We’d happily pay if that is what it takes. Sales volume wise this is likely peanuts to Apple, but marketing wise maybe this could be quite impactful to Apple also: imagine a claim along the lines of iPhones the first consumer cell phone that you do not need to switch off when refueling your car, or when you’re an oil worker at a refinery or oil rig!Anyone any suggestions? UK prices too high iPhone 4

Iphone 4-Wifi Password Problems

My home has an apple router, so I never had this problem until this week.I cannot logon to most wifi spots. The phone sees the router, but gives the following error: Incorrect password for router. The password is correct, but I can connect with my computer or others phones, not the Iphone4. I have tried a dozen spots, houses, cafes, airports etc.. and I could get one or two to work. I am using the correct password- it has to be driver problem.Any ideas? I have reset the network settings back to the factory settings. No difference. Thanks Iphone iOS 4 Wifi Password Problems

iOS cant handle forwarded emails iPhone

Ive just run headlong into a major email problem after setting up an associates email client to automatically forward selected email addresses to her during a three week trip carrying only an ipad and iPhone for email access. The only available option for the automatic forwarding is to forward the email as an attachmentThe problem is that the iPads GMail client simply presents the attached emails as cannot open attachments. This is not only the GMail client, but the problem is there for other as well, so, the email client appears to be common except for the setups. These attachments do have a filename extension... it is .eml (which is a long existing and standard extension for email attachments)imho, this needs immediate attention. The only (apparent) current options are to manually forward the emails inline or to use a webmail interface... if it happens to be GMail, there are additional problems. How to exit FaceTime iPhone

This may sound like a stupid question at first -- but how doI exit a FaceTime connection and revert back to the voice call…?!I mean, if I can go from voice to video I should be able to go back to voice again, right…?!So far I have tried all buttons and options, but I cant find anything that works…! I can mute the FT call and I can of course hang up and call again, but thats not really a solution…Closest thing I found is pressing the home button, but -- just as in a voice call -- that only takes you to the home screen and you are still on speaker, so thats not it either…Am I missing something here…?! New iOS 4.1 iPhone 4

The new iOS 4.1 gives the ability to upload HD videos - a welcome improvment! Proximity sensor, bluetooth and 3gs issues are said to be fixed. A new game centre dedicated to muliplayer games will also be added. High Dynamic Range photos will also be included (the camera automatically brackets an exposure on either side of your picture then takes the best of the three for the final result). SJ said it releases next week. i.OS 4.2 will be released in November and is for the ipad.Message was edited by: Rollerman Core i5 Windows 7

iPhone 3G no longer recognized by iTunes

I dont know what happened. I havent changed any settings on my pc. I updated my phone software to 4.0.2 last week with no apparent problems. I think Ive charged on my pc since but cant remember for sure. Now when I hook to usb, it goes on and off. Like not the power, but it (the iphone) will connect and show charging and I get the windows message that the apple camera is connected and what do i want to do. then it blinks off, like shows my welcome screen, not charging. then a few seconds later it shows up again and shows to be charging. it goes through this over and over. And iTunes does not recognize the iphone, says an error occurred.Any thoughts or suggestions? Dell XPS 410 Windows XP

URGANT iPhone 4 stuck on recovery mode

I just got my iPhone 3 days ago! (Saturday) I went over to my cousins house to add some songs. When I connected the USB cable to his computer and my iPhone it went straight into recovery mode. I thought it was his computer so I went home to my computer and the same problem occurred! I searched everywhere to try to solve this issue. I even downloaded some stuff that supposily forces iDevices out of recovery mode but nothing worked. I also tried holding the 2 buttons and bam, nothing. Please, anyone with a solution, please help me.update Whenever I try to restore, I get an error message. It happens for firmware 4.0,4.01, and 4.0.2. (My iPhone 4 came with firmware 4.0.2)Message was edited by: xxjose201xx Windows XP

iPhone 4-painfully slow wi-fi performance

Ive been experiencing painfully slow wifi performance (about 1/4 the speed of 3G performance) while connected to Wi-Fi.I tried following the advice given in an Apple Support article which suggested resetting network settings. I then had to re-enter the password for my wi-fi and it seemed better for a few minutes while after doing that. But then its back to snails pace again.Has anyone else see this? My Wi-Fi router is a Linksys WAG325N with firmware v1.00.12. Its working fine with several macs, an ipad, an iPod Touch and an iPhone 3GS. Its only the iPhone 4 which has this problem. I can load a given web page on both my iPhone 4 and 3GS and the 3GS normally finishes before the iPhone 4 has even loaded the page title. Its that bad!Any ideas or suggestions appreciated!thanks,Andrew iPhone 4 iOS 4

Who Has Had Perfect iPhone 4 Experience

My iPhone experience has been flawless! I ordered on 6/16 in the evening with no problem. Received a ship by 7/14 date and a deliver by 7/14-7/19 date. I received an email from Apple on Friday that the order had been released and tracked the package a couple of times over the holiday at my lakehouse for the holiday and received it today (7/6) in mid-afternoon. The sync process was seamless, everything came over. Using the phone around town today, taking photos, sending and receiving texts, and I have not had problem #1. No dropping calls, no damaged or colored screen, no missing iPhone when I opened the box. The process has been very well done and the iPhone is really outstanding. The screen presentation is amazing, the new form factor is much easier too handle than any of the previous versions. Given that I cant believe everyone writing in is hallucinating, or incompetent or worse, lying...I wonder how many have an excellent experience like I have? I, for one, say thanks Apple, great job and also have to extend condolences to those that seem to have less than a great experience. iPhone 4 iOS 4 ipad 32 Gb, MacBook Pro 13", Max OS X 10.6.4, Apple TV, Time Capsule

iPhone 4 all 3rd party apps including their data suddenly gone

There is a strange and very annoying bug in iOS 4 (4, 4.0.1 and 4.0.2); every once in while all third party apps including their data get deleted from the iPhone. This happens WITHOUT any user interaction, apparently random and not during sync. The iPhone just rests on the desk unused, then I pick it up again, unlock the screen and find out that all 3rd party apps are gone. The original Apple apps including their data are just fine. Very strange and very annoying. Did someone else suffer from this problem? See this thread as well: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2493279&tstart=0 best regards Wolfgang MacBook Pro, iMac 27", iPhone 4, ipad Mac OS X (10.6.4)

I have so far tried to restore using 3 other pc´s, xp and Win7. Tried different USB cable, disable firewall/antivirus, but nothing helps. I am constantly getting an error 9, but I have seen error 2009 and 3194 as well (tried about 10 times so far).Dont know what else to tryThanks in advance for any feedback. iOS 4

3rd party power adapters belkin and scosche iPhone 4

I have noticed that after upgraded to 4.02, I now receive an error on the screen that reports that this accessory is not supported by Iphone, prior to the 4.02 update. Both my belkin and scosche power adapters worked fine. Did Apple re-enable (if not Apple cable or power adapter), display the error ? Iphone 4 iOS 4

Downloading Videos iPhone 4

Hi,I need major help. I just recorded a ton of videos of our family trip to Disneyland on the iPhone 4 but it wont let me download it onto my Macbook. I used the almost DLSR app and neither iPhoto or Preview will allow me to download any of the video footages. I guess almost DSLR creates a different file that cant be recognized. It looks like its still a .mov file but the file must be in some other unrecognizable format. Preview gave me this error message:The operation couldnt be completed (com.apple.ImageCaptureCore error -9912)All of my iPhone 4 and iTunes is up to date. Is there anyway of just extracting the video footage via Finder? Thanks. MacBook Mac OS X (10.5.6)

Problems syncing iPhone 4

Seems simple - to sync your phone, but I have had issues since purchase. After 3 hrs tech time and then time face to face in store, they gave me a new phone. It syncd right away, everything fine. Now having problem with the second phone.I did not sync the phone for a couple weeks, and went to sync it because my apps were not working (push the app on phone and nothing happens). When I tried to sync, I get errors again, some of which include:Internal device errorTiming outUnknown errorI have attempted to restore from back-up, and it errors out and wont let me do this. I have done the complete restore as well. Then when I attempt to sync, the errors are gone, but the sync does not occur. Itunes states it is syncing, and phone shows nothing. It never syncs. Also, anytime I connect the phone to computer itunes pops up with the set up your iphone page, which tells me it is never really recognizing the phone. Also note: I was told to take the time management off the USB hubs, as this might be creating a problem. This has not solved the problem.I am going back to the store today, but figured I would see what advice I could find here. HP dv6t 64 bit
