Non Ear Bud Headset with Controls iPhone 4

I cant stand ear-buds, but I love the inline controls that come with the iPhone ear buds. I see lots of on-ear and over-ear headsets with volume control, but nothing with the advance/reverse buttons. Does Apple (or anyone) make non ear bud headsets with the full inline controls? And if not, why dont they? Lots of people dont want to ruin their hearing completely, or find ear buds very uncomfortable, or have hearing aids, etc. PC Windows Vista

iPhone 4 Bug List-iOS 4.0.2

I just wanted to post this topic as Im curious if the Apple monster will even read this or address them. I hope I get surprised. Apple makes, hands down, the most high quality of devices, but they tend to have it there way more than ours. I guess thats what makes them Apple. Without further ado, here is my list of bugs Ive noticed and I hope youll add to it. I would just love to see Apple address these:1. Performance issues with Podcasts and multiple-tasking. Youll hear stuttering on occasion, sometimes often while playing a podcast or even music. Ive noticed this at random and also at times when the phone locks or when switching out of the iPod.2. I just noticed this one: if you take the time to write on this exact site, you will find yourself getting lost, as sometimes the text goes on, and the screen doesnt follow it. Suprising that even on the iPhones home site, it cant perform the way it ought to. Youll also notice that below here, its asking me what hardware Im using and what OS. It should be clear what hardware Im on and even what OS Im running. Brilliant, considering this is Apple.com, I selected the iPhone 4 section, and the browser can report the os version. Oh wow, I just lost my text again and had to press the expanding icon on the bottom right of this pane. Also, sometimes i lose my text permanently where I should be able to scroll down to find it but there arent scroll bars... The attention to detail of the aesthetics of the phone cant be matched on the outside, but again, leave a lot to be desired on the inside.3. Echo for the remote callers own voice when my phone is plugged into a stereo through the headphone jack. Even when my volume is so low, I cant hear it.4. While heavily texting, if I exit out to the home screen after/during the send of the text, my phone will freeze for a good 60-120 seconds. If I press too many buttons, trying to get it to respond, it will reboot itself instead of coming back to life. Again this only happens (very seldom) when Im sending texts to multiple random people and I abruptly go home while a message is being sent (or maybe received?).5. While playing music, the quality will often drop drastically when entering a game or application that has sounds. This has only happened in two places so far. While talking on the phone, if I go to play music on the iPod to hear in my headphones, and when entering Bejeweled 2 Blitz with the in-game music off and the sounds on, while iPod music is being played. I do not believe this is Bejeweled at fault. Try it, make a call and try and play some background music in your headphones. The quality drops to a very unacceptable level.Thats actually all I can think of for now! Please fix these issues Apple and I will gain a good bit of respect, knowing you heard and acknowledged this. Also, please, everyone post your findings as well, in addition to the Bluetooth, and proximity bugs that have seemingly been addressed but not resolved. iPhone 4 iOS 4 4.0.2, thanks for the option above, and for not already knowing that.

No Service restore still No Service restore iPhone 4

OK, so a few days ago I finally got around to upping to iOS 4.02. The next day, I started getting an abhorrent number of dropped calls, fail to connects, no internet service, the works. Mostly while driving, making this more annoying (the little bzzzzzzzz of a dropped call in my earpiece, not so fun.I am, in fact, in possession of a clue (as well as a degree in Information Systems), so I start troubleshooting on my own. Jumping into an out of Airplane mode (force to look for network) results in a temporary fix - as in, about 3 seconds of connectivity. Resetting ALL network settings seems to result in about the same. After three or four cycles of this, the phone drops service again, but displays a message saying that it was unable to make or recieve calls, and that I needed to preform a restore.Which I did. And it worked. For thirty seconds, and then I got the same message. So I restored. Again. Reset network settings again, just to be safe.It just dropped a call on me to my mother. Im going to have a lot of fun hearing about how I hung up on her, except that I have... you guessed it, No Service. No restore message though.Im using a silicone case, the phone is sitting on my desk now, wasnt touching it, let alone the antenna when any of this happened, using my headset actually, my wifes got 5 bars of tower even using the death grip, and so does my old 3G (work pays for it, so I have 3 AT&T lines) and Im less than a mile away from a tower, and we usually get really good service here. I dont think its an AT&T problem b/c my other lines are fine.Im out of suggestions. Anyone else seeing anything like this? iPhone 4 iOS 4 ?

microphone level too low iPhone 4

It seems like the microphone input level on my wifes iPhone 4 is too low. People have trouble hearing her during her calls. Using the headset, speakerphone, or Bluetooth doesnt increase the volume, nor does covering up the noise-cancelling input on the top. Using the voice recorder app, I used the same headset the same distance from my mouth to compare the meter volume against my 1st gen iPhone, and the input comes in at least 6dB lower. Is this a defective model that needs to be returned? Or is this expected as part of the new design? My wife says she cant use it as a phone, it may have to go back. It would be great if a future iOS update allowed us to adjust the input level. iPhone 4 iOS 4

Belkin Clear Hard Case iPhone 4

The Shield Micra case. This was my free case through the case program. Cant say anything good about it. Literally 3 cents worth of plastic and the top and bottom are completely open and not protective at all. Opening for volume buttons is too small btw. No one with average hand size will like it. I have another clear case I really like (no brand from handhelditems.com). But I thought, well try the Belkin. A half hour later I finally succeeded in getting my phone out of the darn thing and had to be VERY careful not to damage the phone in the process. There is NO EASY WAY to take the phone out to clean. So, one word - avoid.Message was edited by: paulking Toshiba PC Windows XP Pro iphone 4

Low Sounds iPhone 3G

For some strange reason, the sound on my iphone 3G has reduced drastically. I am not able to hear either ringtone nor any music. The volume control is at full level. I tried resetting the phone and tried almost everything, but the sound volume can not be increased. All other functions are in perfect condition. The phone has neither fallen or become wet. Where am I going wrong? 3G iOS 4

white screen prob and beyond iPhone 3G

I have an Iphone 3G and I dont really know what happened. one day it just had a white screen and is not recognised by my computer. however I do get the beep from the computer to tell me that it has connected. what I have tried:1. i was going to restore it but its not recognized so cant do that2. tried to reset it with home and power buttons. all it does is give me the apple screen and then back to the white screen and off.3. tried a hard reset where i hold the home, power and up volume buttons. i get the same result as a normal reset.4. I have been told that the white screen is caused by internal hardware becoming disconnected. my warranty is up so i opened my iPhone and checked and everything is connected. hp Windows 7 iphone 3g 16g

iPhone 4 No sound from earpiece

Afternoon, this is the first time i have ever registered on a forum or posted a message but i feel so frustrated by the problem that it has forced me to do so.Basically, i was really happy with my iPhone 4 up until about a week ago and am now riddled with issues. First off, i have never had a 3G signal (this was not an issue with my iPhone 3G so no comments about area, and yes, the function is turned on in settings). Apparently it has something to do with VPN settings getting corrupt when restoring from backup to a new phone. Ok, so ill reset my phone and delete the corrupt settings. Issue resolved but still a pain.Secondly and most importantly, my lovely new iPhone 4 has suddenly started dropping sound from the earpiece, and the person on the other end cant hear me also. I have done extensive research into solving the issue and apparently it is a common problem. (to those out there thinking they had this problem but realising they hadnt removed the protective film - REALLY!!!!)So, i have tried resetting the phone, restarting the phone, restoring the phone (if there was any more re....s that i could do, i would) and sometimes it works but the problem always comes back. One other thing that sometimes works is inserting and removing your headphones into the socket a few times - like i really want to be doing that all day to make a call.It seems that the phone is getting confused as to what mode it is when making a call and lots of people are having the same problem. The only real fix - get a new phone.Final problem, it means me visiting an Apple Store to resolve the issue. I dont live anywhere near an Apple Store, brilliant.I think ive made myself quite clear.Laters. iMac

iSkin Solo iPhone 4

In case anyone thought iSkin might not hold up to its level of fit, function and color selection, let me say that they have outdone themselves on the new Solo case. I got mine today- took advantage of the special offer and got the pink, clear and turquoise. I must say that it was worth the wait. As usual, it fits great- I love the way it covers the edge of the screen protector and the camera/flash cut out on the back is nice and wide. Just a gentle press on the volume or sleep button activates them and the edges are just thick enough to make it bounce if you accidentally drop the phone. I have used iSkin since I got my 3G and Im glad they are finally available for iPone 4. Go to www.iskin.com for the special offer which is good until the end of the month. iPhone 3G 8GB-Slow as all get out

Ok, I have spent time searching the forums, and web for any answers. I have a few problems with my iPhone, and most of you will probably hate me for what I am going to say.First issue: My iPhone is ungodly slow. I mean it takes about 3-4 minutes for the app store to load sometimes, when loading an app, constantly loads while in the app, causing the app to freeze. Sometimes when I go into an app, after about 15-30 seconds it kicks me out of the app.Second issue: Sound is super low. When I go to make a call on my iPhone, I am either forced to use a Bluetooth Headset or Speaker to place the call. The normal speaker works but is really really low. And yes, I do have the volume all the way turned up. When receiving a call, I can barely hear the ringtone sometimes, it is super low.Third issue: My iPhone constantly says No Simcard Installed I know part of it is probably because the sim does not fit snug inside the phone anymore, but It also does it randomly at times. I was wondering if it could be a software issue, and not the actual sim card. Last issue (For Now): Replacing the back case. I am wondering if I should replace the back case for my phone, or just finally upgrade to another iPhone. My back case has about 5 cracks on it, its loose, and my lock/power button does not work, the vibrator switch does not work, vibrate does not work, and I am missing a piece of the case that goes on the top of the phone. So should I just spare myself headache, and financial hit, and just go purchase another iPhone 3G or 3GS, I do not plan on getting the iPhone 4 as of yet, but do you think it is time for a full upgrade, or just fix the issues I am currently having. 15" Macbook Pro (2010) iPhone 3G 8G Mac OS X (10.6.4) 2.66 GHZ Core i7 500GB HD, 4GB RAM

Bug or feature Audio from videos can still play with sound turned off iPhone 3G

Ive just noticed that with the sound switch turned off (i.e., red dot showing), if I play a video and slide the volume bar to the right for the video, the audio plays on the iPhone speaker. I thought the hardware sound switch was a master switch which would kill all sound on the iPhone, except, of course, for headphones. iPhone 3G iOS 4

this accessory not optimized to work for this iphone

Hi,my iphone 3GS upgraded to 4.01 OS has the same problem of many other phones , the message reported in the subject. With this message the phone hasnt audio speakers and can only be used with headphones or similarAfter reading many many similar post in Italy and in this Discussione Forum I made some test.First at all I have to say that my phone got wet during a traking trip on the mountain this summer! Peaty! Now I know that there is a red spot that mark the phone to prevent Apple to fix problems due to customer, and this is rightBut I made some test 1.Using the voice recorder that has a control that can select speaker or headphones, if you select speaker the audio goes, even with the message, and if you use another application in multitasking way this goes even too2.If you select this second application alone, it doesnt go.3.When you unlock the phone the volume control goes but after a few seconds it desappear. When the volume control is on the display the audio goes but till the message pop up.All those test show us that the hardware is ok but is the software that treats some internal trigger in a bad wayI ask to Apple an help to solve this problem otherwise coustomer will be unable to use iphone in a right way with a marketing damage even for Apple itself Acer X50G Windows Vista

What fixed my iPhone 3G on slow 4.0.1

I cant say for definite that any of this will help anyone but I thought Id share what Ive got.On upgrading my 3G from 3.1.3 to 4.0.0 it went a bit iffy. On upgrading to 4.0.1 it went to the same awful place that most have been describing here.By luck more than intelligence and with the help thats available by a quick and simple Google I downgraded to 3.1.3. I had copied my 3.1.3 back up and my 4.0.1 back up to separate folders (so there was a little bit of intelligence going on !!).Things did not go smoothly though. The restore I wanted to use wouldnt show in iTunes and I had to move the restore files in the MobileSync folder around a bit before I got what I needed. I believe I set the iPhone up as a new phone to finally get it to do what I wanted it to do but after completing the downgrade and restore I then managed to re-upgrade to 4.0.1 automatically through iTunes - I was kicking myself with both legs at this point.Anyway, I restored with my 4.0.1 backup but then iTunes kept generating an error message. Following another quick Google I learned that there might be duplicate/corrupt files to look for. Sure enough I discovered that 3 voice memos had become 3 x 3 voice memos. I copied the originals to a safe place, deleted all 9 from iTunes, synced, and then restored the 3 originals - job done.It was a prime opportunity to have a flipping good tidy up so I deleted all the apps I dont use which was a surprisingly high percentage (and you know its the same for you !!) and then I reinstalled all the others one by one.In line with recommendations found in several of the high-volume threads for this long-ignored problem I have also: Reset Network Settings in General/Settings, removed all search criteria in General/Home Button/Spotlight Search, unfoldered any folders, done a couple of double hard resets, and smeared the handset with vanilla and passion fruit flavoured probiotic yoghurt whilst singing Rihannas Umbrella backwards in Swedish… twice… but then I havent got Colin from Hulls Jack Russell to lick my phone in the morning for me.I later discovered that Bento 3 had been massacring data willy-nilly - in particular there seemed to be an issue with media files. I backed up all the Bento data on my computer, trashed Bento from the iPhone, reinstalled Bento to the iPhone, and then synced all the data afresh - job done. A very important point in Bento is that before you sync or back up you should always close Bento down on your computer and re-open it as it seems to need that in order to verify any amendments you have made. Bento syncs have gone from minutes to seconds now.My iPhone is working just fine on 4.0.1 now - the odd tiny lag, sure, but I believe thats always been the case. I managed to retain all of my data including text messages and everything, phew. I have no idea which of the million things I did that ultimately fixed the problem but the 3G clearly is capable of running 4.0.1 - the problem seems to lie with how the upgrade process itself took place and whether there were deficiencies in that area or whether maybe the users current iPhone data condition plays more of a part. This final point opens up a whole raft of other questions because I never corrupted my data - Apple Updates, iPhone, and iTunes apparently did that for me !!For the record: I never had a bazillion apps on my iPhone, I regularly back up, I try to keep things tidy, I always bag every update that Apple recommend. It seems the whole concept of iPhones and iTunes keeping things simple isnt working any more - Im a bit nerdy so I seem to have resolved this problem and have hopefully dug deep enough into duplicates and/or corruptions to bode well for the future…… but thats not true for most people.Apple - shame on you… your long, long silence is deafening.Complain here: http://www.apple.com/feedback/iphone.html - dont just assume that other people will do it - you need to do it too. iPhone speakers only play certain things please read 3G

My iPhone has been acting up. I recently bought it and it has the new 4.0.1 software on it. The bottom speakers only play ringtones, and I can hear people on the phone just fine, and talk back to them. BUT, I cannot listen to music out loud through the phone, and youtube videos volume doesnt work, and app or keyboard volume isnt present either. Is this all because of the new OS? Please reply with any info, thanks! Windows 7

Ringer not working with incoming calls sound not working on games iPhone

Hi, my phone isnt ringing when I get calls. The sounds for games are also not working. Sounds are turned on in settings. The sounds work when I change the volume, etc. in the settings panel. The ringer is not turned off...checked that. Sound on movies and music is working. What magic switch am I missing?! This has not been a problem before. I starting using the alarm on the phone last week, but I dont think theres a correlation since I turned off the alarm to test and still didnt have any ringtone with an incoming call. Cleaning iPhones crevices

The iPhone 4 is my second iPhone. My trusty 1st gen was with me for over two years, but by the end of its life the port at the bottom and all microphones and earpieces were full of dust and lint. Im fearing that my new phone is already headed in this direction. In addition, the earpiece (not sure if thats what its called; referring to the mesh piece above the display next to the front camera that I put up to my ear) received a drop of food that has hindered the loudness when I am on phone calls. Does anyone have any tips for:keeping the USP slot clean?cleaning the bottom speakers?cleaning the mesh piece, or earpiece?Thank you! MacBook Mac OS X (10.4.11)

person calling me cannot hear nor can I hear them without using speaker iPhone

When person calls me I can only answer them using headphones or speakerphone. Similar when I call them. If I press the button on the sideof the phone to control volume I get a message on the front saying ringer and underneath this in brackets is (headphones). IPhone Speaker not working unless on loud speaker 3G

Hi,I got a 3gs recently and set up my old 3g up for my partner. After downloading the ios4 software and up to date carrier settings we have tried making a call but although the person you call can hear you, you cant hear them. Ipod and touch tones work fine and if you plug in head phones or put the call on loud speaker you can then hear the other person.Read loads of posts about the iphone thinking it has head phones plugged in due to fluff in the socket but when I click the volume control on the side it does just say ringer not ringer (headphones) or anything to indicate the theory.Would appreciate any help with this. Thanks IPhone 3G iOS 4

iPhone 3GS wont ring

For the record: I dont think my dilemma has anything to do with the new iOS4 update. Recently my iPhone has been acting a bit odd. You know the little switch right above the volume buttons? The one that if you switch it, it shows a bell. Silent or ring. Well, a couple of days ago (about 2 days) after turning my phone back on, the little bell symbol randomly came up and was flashing on and off. This all happened without me touching the actual switch. After all that happened, when I went to switch the silent/ring thing, nothing came up. It just stayed the same. Now theres no sound. I can play music aloud. I can play a ringtone aloud. It just wont play on its own. If I receive a call, I wont hear it. If I receive a text, I wont hear it. The keyboard wont even click anymore Ive checked the settings. Ive turned off my phone multiple times. Nothing works. Please help! : Jay iPhone 3GS (16 GB / White) iOS 4

iPhone 3G-Power and volume button issues

A few months ago I dropped my phone and shattered the screen, completely my fault so I went to the nearest apple store about an hour away and had the screen replaced for about $250. One of the techs there suggested I get a case for it to prevent it from happening again which I agreed was a good idea. The recommended case was almost like a hard plastic on the outside with a softer rubber on the inside and he claimed he used the same one. I was happy with it and purchased it.Just recently I decided to take it out of the case because it just felt too bulky in my pocket and ever since Ive been having problems. It seems the case has pushed the power button of my phone in too far and now the screen will randomly turn on or off or bring up the slide to power off message. It also must have pushed in the volume buttons because 9 times out of 10 when I unlock the phone the volume will go all the way up or all the way down and wont let me change it. The buttons are noticeably pushed in on my phone compared to the iPhones of other people I know.Yesterday I contacted my service provider (Rogers) and explained the situation to which they responded with We cant deal with iPhones you have to speak to Apple and also said that I had to wait an extra year for a hardware upgrade because it was a smart phone. Fair enough I suppose, it wasnt them that recommended the case.Today I call Apple, expecting the good customer service I usually get. Now Im told that since it is 72 days out of warranty I have to pay for a replacement even though the case was recommended to me at an Apple store (Sherway Gardens to be exact). The only option they gave that wasnt going to cost an arm and a leg was restoring the phone via iTunes which clearly didnt solve my issue due to it being hardware related and not software.Sorry for the long story but if anyone has any advice please feel free to share. I rely on receiving phone calls and emails on this everyday and its pretty difficult to hear someone with no volume or to respond to an email when the volume icon is covering your screen. Thanks,Jamie Thorpe iPhone 3G

mute and volume buttons broken after iOS 4 update iPhone 3G

I have seen sporadic accounts of my problem but no resolution (or empathy).I upgraded my iPhone 3G to iOS 4.0 the other week. The update process was the slow kind, taking 3+ hours but it worked in the end. It seemed to work alright for a few days. Then I noticed the mute and volume buttons stopped working.I twice tried an restore, not a full restore to factory settings, but to my last saved backup. No success. Today I upgraded to iOS 4.0.1 and there is no change.I would like to avoid a factory reset. Has anyone experienced this problem and ideally found a solution to the problem? Thanks in advance... No buttons except home button working on my iphone. fixes 3G

Yesterday, without any damage being done to the phone (dropping it, etc) I noticed my lock button stopped working. I thought perhaps the software was just being buggy and decided to wait until I got home to restore it. Before plugging the phone in, I checked the other buttons and discovered the ringer/silent button and the two volume buttons didnt function either. Only the home button worked. After a restore on itunes and resetting all settings within the phones Reset tab itself, nothing has changed. Has anyone else had this exact problem? I find it odd that all of the external buttons arent functioning at the same time. iPhone 3G Mac OS X (10.6.3)

iPhone 3G White Screen of Death Problem

So a month or two ago, my deactivated (had no cell service, still worked for games and such) iPhone 3G got a white screen. It would go from that screen to black if I pressed the lock button. So after looking around on the Internet, I still found no solution. Most just said, press the lock and home buttons for 10 seconds, and some said do that but also press volume up. None of this worked. When I did try the lock and home buttons, it would give me a black screen, and go back to white. I really do not want to have to buy an iPod Touch and waste my money, if there is a solution to this. 3G iPhone OS 3.1.3 Jailbroken

How to restore Iphone 3G after iOS4 update

So you upgraded to OS4 and lost all messages etc. ?If you are on Mac use Time Machine and restore the iTunes Backup folder. Some other guy posted a message with How to...If you are in Windows Vista or Windows 7 use Previous Versions and restore the folder:C:UsersnameAppDataRoamingApple ComputerMobileSyncBackupThen use Restore function in iTunes.I dont know why but iTunes just erases this folder after upgrade to newer version. (Good job Apple !)If youre running Windows XP or have system restore/volume shadow copy service disabled in Vista or Win7 you are probably screwed...Good Luck Toshiba Satellite Pro; MacBook

iPhone 3G no longer has sound and wont let me play musicvideos

The other day a friend of mine tried calling me and when I went to answer I couldnt hear her. I saw that she left a voicemail and when I went to play it, the play but switches from pause back to play very quickly, which wont let the message play. This is also happening when I try to play music or watch videos. Ive tried various things, like changing volume settings, plugging in and out headphone jacks, and rebooting the phone many times. Nothing seems to be working. I dont think its a sound issue since the phone wont let me run apps that require sound. Does anyone know what is going on? iPhone 3G iPhone OS 3.1.3

IPHONE 3G SPEAKER ISSUE PLEASE HELP

There is a story behind this, that I think might have something to do with why its not working...only problem is is that I dont know how to fix it. One morning I was getting alot of phone calls so I decided to press the volume button once to silence my phone. However, after that I wasnt able to hear my ringtones loud or music from my ipod anymore. I have since restore my phone, turned the volume up for everything, ipod, games...etc. But the speaker is just not projecting a loud sound; it produces a very muffled sound. Now, I know its not a blown speaker, because this same thing happened with a previous iPhone I had, (I mean down to the silencing a phone call and everything.) ANY advice would be helpful!! Again it is just the speaker/speakerphone that is not working...the ear speaker works fine. Thanks!! MacBook Pro
