I have to use my ear buds with calls. When using the phone to make calls or receive, the volume is so low that I cant hear. I have tried to reset with the airplane mode, turned off wifi, and reset my 3Gs. Anyone have a similar problem. I had this problem with my new 3Gs so after numerous calls to Apple support, it was returned and the same thing happened with the new one. I wonder if there is an issue with my PC and syncing, maybe a virus that is causing this problem when I sync?? iPhone OS 3.0
All buttons (Home, sleep-wake, volume control) are not responding. The screen is blank (in sleep mode).Phone rings when called but can not recieve because the screen still remains blank. iPhone still pairs with GPS (via blue tooth) and able to make calls indirectly with GPS.Message and e-mail tones sound when received but also can not access them. Looks like everything is working but not the screen and buttons.Any advice what could be the reason and how to fix it?Thanks Toshiba Windows Vista
I am trying to increase the volume while I am in the middle of a call. I have pushed the volume up button until it has reached its max and it still sounds very quiet. Anything I can do to increase it more? iPhone iPhone OS 3.0
I want to get this headset mainly for the volume control. Currently it is not compatible with the 3G. Anyone running 3.0 on a 3G with this headset and able to use the volume control function? 12-inch Powerbook, 24-inch iMac, 50-inch Mac mini Mac OS X (10.5.5) 8GB iPhone 3G, 2GB iPod nano (2nd gen)
A few drops of syrup from a cup of mandarin oranges spilled on my phone. I wiped it down with a damp cloth but it seems some got in the earpiece, as when I make a call the other persons voice is faint and a little hard to hear. I gave the earpiece another wipe with a damp cloth but its still not loud. I bought my phone on April 25 from and AT&T store and did NOT buy the insurance or the Apple Icare. I dont recall if AT&Ts insurance covers the iphone or if I have to buy the Apple icare, and since I have neither is there anything I can do? I guess I can get the insurance now, though...
Im using an iPhone 3G with the 3.0 OS, and trying to get music over my bluetooth headphones. The phone connects to the headset fine (theyre paired, the icon flashes when the headset connects, etc), and the headset is reported as fully A2DP compliant. However, when I open the iPod app, the bluetooth icon does not show at the bottom like I expected from the various screenshots floating around... I simply get the old volume slider, and audio still comes only via the speakers or headphone jack.I have tried all the basic solutions - re-pairing the devices, turning things on and off, powering off the phone, etc. Nothing seems to happen. Is anyone else having the same problem? Is it specific to this headphone (the Philips SHB6100)?Does anyone have any advice on how I might get it to work? Thanks in advance for the help! Iphone 3g Other OS
I have the iphone 3g and I recently updated to the 3.0 software and alot of times throughout the day the message pops up that says that this device doesnt work with the iphone and asks if I want to turn on the airplane mood ( I do not have anything plugged into the phone). I also noticed today that when I play my music that there is no sound coming from the speakers ( I dont have headphone plugged in I was just trying to hear it through the phone speakers like I could beofre). It also doesnt show the volume bar. Please help. Thanks Ibook g3 Mac OS X (10.4.11)
In the on-screen help for iPhone 3Gs voice dialing, the instructions say to either hold the home button or to hold the center button on ear phones. I dont understand. Where can I get earphones that do that? What are they called? What other things do they do/have? iPhone 3Gs iPhone OS 3.0 MacBook
my 3gs status is not yet shipped and after seeing all of the progress people are getting with their phones, I am naturally feeling a little left out. My question is, is this normal? With such a high volume moving in the matter days, is it possible that people arent receiving an update on any web source but the phone has shipped anyway? Or on the other side of things, is it possible that some or many may slip through the cracks (even though they ordered on or a little after last Monday) and not get a Friday delivery? Maybe some can shed some experience from the 3g launch. Thanks MBP, iMac Al, iPhone 3gs, 10.6
What is Apple going to do about the low ringer volume on the iphone? They only have one speaker at the bottom of the phone, which makes it almost impossible to hear outdoors with city traffic! iphone 1st gen.
I biked to work listening to my iPhone and when I got there I noticed my volume grew on its own.Now its as if I am ALWAYS tapping the volume button on the side of the phone and the box with volume levels which comes up is permenantly on my screen! Annoying Help! iPhone Other OS Phone
Recently my iPhone has been doing odd things on its own, Ill be looking at texts or an app and itll just close to the home screen or go blank or to the screen for powering down..the ringer volume level goes up and down by itself and sometimes it restarts itself and goes into a restart loop for awhile. It also drops calls and goes to the home screen without even saying call failed. I have restored the software since this has been happening and its still does it.What I want to know is if I take it in and cant be fixed if I am still eligible to get a new one, its less than a year old.Thanks. My 3G iPhone is not working properly. I have incoming volume, however, those I call or those phoning me, cannot hear me.My phone is not on mute. I have reset it twice. Greetings,I use Internet radio apps like Pandora and Live365. Often, when I stop the app and unplug the audio cable or earbuds, the iPod app will start playing the very first song (alphabetically speaking) in its library. At full volume, no less. So, I have to quickly hit the iPod button to bring it up, and then hit stop.It doesnt happen every time, and I cant figure out if there is a particular sequence of events that triggers it, or if its just random. Anyone else experience this? Thanks,DMMessage was edited by: Doctormelodious Mac Pro 8 core Mac OS X (10.5.6) iBook G4 1.2 GHz
Hi. Im new here, but I think some insight might be helpful from you guys.I have a 16gb iPhone 3g. Ive had it since it came out, and its treated me very nicely. A few months ago, at college, I dropped my phone and cracked the very top right of the it (just a tiiiiny bit near the actual screen part of the phone). Everything functioned still, although it was mighty ugly and made me sad =(. Let me refresh you that it was back in Novemberish. Recently (last saturday), I was playing music for a get together from my phone through the headphone jack. The music was playing and all of a sudden stopped abruptly. I wasnt sure what happened so I checked it out. To my demise, the lock button, headphone jack, volume switches and vibrate switch were unresponsive. I did some research and found out that they all operate on the same sensor. Im not sure if this has to do with the glass crack that happened half a year ago, or what. I went to the Genius Bar to try and negotiate a new replacement, but supposedly, although it malfunctioned due to usage, I couldnt get it replaced.Anyone have any thoughts or suggestions for the physical buttons on my iPhone being broken? Its killin me.Backbeat.I went to Apple Mac OS X (10.5.7)
Whilst I was travelling in South East Asia, I needed to purchase a new phone.I found a supplier of iPhones in Thailand that sold me an Official Apple Unlocked iPhone, it turned out to be an Italian iPhone, again an official Apple one.I needed an unlocked phone that I could use in many different countries, using local SIM cards.I have been very happy with the phone, it needed updating to v2 and this did not cause any problems.I was just speaking with AppleCare about an unrelated issue. at the end of the conversation I mentioned that the only thing about the iPhone that was disappointing about the iPhone was the volume of the speaker phone. The agent took the serial number of the iPhone and put me through to iPhone support. The iPhone agent then took the serial number again and told me that I had an Italian iPhone, because it was bought in Thailand, support was only available through Thailand, she also told me that using a SIM card other than that of an official carrier voided the warranty. All this seems a bit restrictive, for people in my position, to buy an Official Apple product and then be denied support defeats the object of sourcing an unlocked product in the first place. I can understand why Apple refuse to support iPhones that are unofficially unlocked, but to deny support for an official product seems grossly unfair.Anyone else had problems getting Apple to support their own products, any ideas how this situation can be resolved?Jeremy iMac intel 24" white, Mac Mini, PMG4, iMac G4, MBP, iPhone Mac OS X (10.5.7) Boot Camp (XP), VM Ware (XP)
When Im in my car, I usually hook up my iPhone and listen to music through my car stereo. Its really neat how the when I get a call, the music turns down by itself and you hear your phone ringing. When you answer it, it sounds as if the person on the other end is speaking through your car speakers! Is this correct? Well I wish I had better speakers because I cannot hear them too well, and another issue is that it seems that I cannot use the phones earpiece to hear them either. Its completely muted. Its almost like I have to totally unplug the stereo jack from the phone to actually use the earpiece and talk normally through it. Anyone having this issue?
i have a 3g with 2.2.1.the phone has started to regularly - every few minutes -lock itself up, go to the slide to power off screen, cancel calls, self-adjust the volume, lock the keypad etc, loads of problems.i have tried doing a restore and this works for a very short while but thats it and it starts again.I have tried it with only default apps and it still does it.anyone got any ideas? the warranty is still valid until th end of july so should i take it to an Apple store and get it looked at? emac
I have a iPhone 3G and I have dropped it a couple times since I owned it. Now last night I of course dropped it again, after I dropped it it kept vibrating then stops acting like Im switching it to vibrate to volume. It finally stopped so thats ok. But when I am on the phone I hear a ting sound through the speaker. Also when I shake the phone it sounds like something is lose inside. Now I know this isnt under warranty and plus I had this phone since it just came out. My question is has anyone got there phone fixed kinda like how I need mine? How much did it cost? Is it worth to fix or get new? Last question can they replace the back of the phone? since its been drop so much my back is all scartch hardcore. I found black backens online but not white (which is what I have)
My iphone headphone jack isnt working. Its as if the phone is thinking that opposite. When there are no headphones in I cant hear anything and pressing the volume button shows (headphones)on the screen. However when the headphones are in it acts as if there are none in it and all the sound functions work fine.I also know that it definitaly thinks that is in headphone mode when nothing is plugged in as while playing music and putting the headphones in but not all the way you can get music to play through the headphones..I have just recently swapped the back case on my iphone and it came with headphone jack switches etc already in place. All I had to do was attach a cable..Do you think that there is anyway to get a program to manually change it or a command line that will reverse it? iPhone 2G

heres how i paried with both the jabra a7010 bluetooth adapter for office phones (panasonic in my case) and my iphone second generation (3g).the problem with the jabra base is that you hold its activity button down for a few seconds and it goes into autopairing mode so you cant set it to find devices for pairing and then enter any authorization codes.what i did was first reset the bluetooth headset (i think this is what happened at least) by holding the call and 2 volume buttons down for ten seconds until the light turned solid blue.i then put the jabra device into pairing mode by holding down the button as described above and at the same time the iphone was searching for devices (i had deleted the earlier pairing) and had found the motorola bluetooth headset h710.the jabra device will now automatically pair as soon as it was detected the headset and both devices (headset and jabra unit) will flash. you will still see the h710 visible in the iphones list of found devices and you should click on pair wherein you will be shown the pin number dialog in which you have to enter 0000. this sets up the device as paired and makes it the primary bluetooth device.what i think the primary device designates is that it will be used whenever you use the headset to initiate calls, etc but you can receive incoming calls or activation requests (i can push the button on the jabra and it will connect and start a call on my landline) from either device.motorola really need to put some more work into their paltry user manuals and beef up their online support resources beyond a download of their already incomplete PDF booklet.the h710 is the best headset on the market at any price though. macbook Mac OS X (10.5.7)
My apologies if this has been posted before. My phone is great except for the phone itself. I can barely hear the person on the other line. I have the volume all the way up. Using the headphones helps a little, but I usually end up telling the caller that I will call them back when I get home. Is there a fix for this? a setting I can adjust? Thanks in advance.Message was edited by: psrichmond
The volume of my ring tones is sub standard , any thoughts on how to increase the volume even though it is on max already ! Windows Vista
I am terribly annoyed right now, due to the fact that my iPhones native speaker has been completely distorted. I used to be able to listen to my music at full volume with no distortion at all, and now even my ringtones, which were once clear and melodic, are scratchy, distorted, and crackly. The reason?I believe the reason to be an App called Sound Grenade, which produces high-frequency noises that are meant to be crowd control. Ive used this off and on for the last two or so hours, each time not exceeding three minutes or so. And when my phone rang, my ringone is crackling and distorted. Im not in the least bit amused by this.First of all, NOWHERE in the description of the Sound Grenade app does it list a warning that the application may damage your iPhone. If it did, I wouldnt have downloaded it, and Im sure it wouldnt even be on the App Store.Secondly, I paid by $1.99 for this App. Theres also a Lite version, which makes it even worse, because anyone with an iPhone or iPod Touch can get this app and damage their speakers without any warning. Why has Apple left this application on the App Store? Ive done some research, and there are tons of other people with this issue, as well, so Im positive that the speaker distortion is caused by Sound Grenade. I also hear that Apply REFUSES to repair the damage? How is that fair? I paid for the App, I used it, it broke my speakers, now I have to set my volume to half otherwise my phones sounds are distorted. All because Apple passed a product with the potential of breaking my iPhone? Please, I would like some feedback as to how I can get this issue resolved. I dont see it suitable at all that I should have to pay a hefty repair bill for the carelessness of Apple when it comes to testing and approving applications.Message was edited by: BatteryHound Windows XP
Gang,Basically my phone work just fine. But when I get a call I have to put it on speaker phone to listen to anything. Also when I adjust the volume it always indicates Headphone.and Yes I do not have my headphones in. I looked at the cleaning thing and that is not the problem as the iPhone does detect that the headphones are pulled out.I restored, rebooted, checked settings, you name it. Nothing comes out of the speakers when you touch the keyboard no clicks and yes these are all enabled.I have not as of yet enabled Bluetooth devices, but turned that off also.Everything seems to work fine if I do use the headphone.Any ideas? driving me crazy...ThanksGordon superMini, several MacBooks etc.. Hi there.Im hoping someone from Apple can answer this for me.I have an iPhone 3G running the latest firmware.I have a Jawbone (latest edition) Bluetooth headset, and a Parrot CK3100 Bluetooth headset in the car.Call quality on both of these headsets is sometimes good, but mostly terrible,.I can hear what other people say, but they cant hear me (its distorted)(Ive tried adjusting the microphone volume to no avail).I contacted O2 (here in the UK) and they advised me that the iPhone is only compatible with Apple Bluetooth headsets, and that although the iPhone will work with other headsets, the quality wont be great. However, I tried a friends iPhone with both my Bluetooth headsets, and the quality was fine.So.. do I have a dud iPhone? And what can I do about it?O2 refused to help because of the fact its a non-Apple headset, but if I can get an official response from Apple, perhaps that will help.So Apple.. any response? Or.. how can I get hold of an official response from Apple?Cheers,Dourn. MacBook Mac OS X (10.5.6)
Before I go back and return the new earphones to the store I just want to confirm something...The salesperson at the Apple store said the earphone with the Remote and Mic work with the iphone (just doesnt have the voice feature of the new shuffle - which I expected). Need help fixing these problems. Any solutions?1) Even though my wireless signal is at full strength, no matter where I am, I very frequently have trouble hearing the person on the other line. Its as if the reception is very bad even though the iPhone shows a full signal - the other persons voice cuts in and out, sounds like theyre speaking underwater (i.e., warbling), becomes totally unclear and unintelligible, and often is completely muted. Hanging up and calling back or moving to another location generally does NOT fix the problem - its sporadic. Sometimes, powering off and powering on the phone DOES help but it more frequently DOES NOT help. According to ATT, the signal/network in my area and phone are excellent.2) I often hear my own voice echoed (ranging from very loudly to very quietly) when speaking to the person on the other line. These echos typically last the entire duration of the call and dont go away even if you hang up and call back.3) I experience dropped calls approximately 1 out of every 8 calls I make. These problems occur with and without the stock iPhone headset for about 80% of my calls at any hour of the day. They occur when making AND receiving phone calls from both land-lines and cell-phones (iPhone and non-iPhone). Troubleshooting:I have been walked through both Apples and AT&Ts trouble shooting (i.e., restore, restore and set up as new iPhone, network checks, volume checks, signal checks, firmware checks, power on and off, and finally, replace phone with new iPhone 3G). I am still having same issues with new replacement iPhone 3G - it is new, not refurbished. Please help!--D - ChicagoMessage was edited by: dalonso77 MacBook 2.4Ghz Mac OS X (10.5.6) OS 10.5.4, 4GB RAM

there are very small lines coming from the silver bezel, they almost like ridges, they seem to stem form every button and some parts of the bezel, is this normal, they appear as very small ridges, they are not actually sticking out but they kind of appear this way, all iphones i have checked have this but in varying places, the lines are very small and can only be seen when in very bright light, they are msot common in the gap between the volume rocker and silver bezel, they also seem to appear along the top of the phone, coming from the silver bezel, please check your phones and get back to me . Apple Genius tells me he is not going to exchange it under warranty, I ask for a manager he then says he will exchange it, after going back and forth 5 times saying yes/no he finally says it is not going to be replaced as it is a cosmetic issue and does not affect the use of the phone. So if I buy a car and the paint peels off after 6 months it is not covered?Nice that Apple covers warranty issues with this kind of professionalism. I for one will never buy anything with Apples name on it or recommend Apple to ANYONE.Bye for good Apple, hello Blackberry.
When on a call, there is no sound through speakerphone, bluetooth earpiece, or the Apple headset w/ mic. I can be heard by the person on the other end through any of these, but I cannot hear them. I have an original model iPhone, and I got it over a year ago now, more or less. Anyway, when I first got it, or shortly after, I dropped it and the volume adjuster on the side was damaged. This is about the time that I bought a case for the phone...Anyway, volume UP does not work, but volume DOWN works just fine, which has resulted in me going into settings every few weeks to turn the ringtone volume back up. Unfortunately, the botton has been pressed enough while in call mode, so it is now at the last bar and I have no way to turn it up, physically, and can barely hear my calls. When looking this up online, the only solution is using the button. I just upgraded the wife and I to Iphones this past weekend. My problem is that I cannot get the volume up to a level that allows me to hear a conversation unless I am in a very quite room. I never had to have the volume all the way up on any of my previous phones...I have checked both phones and they seem to have the same volume level, so it is not specific to my new phone. And no, there is nothing covering the speaker. Is there any way to have the volume limit increased?
I am trying to use my phone, but I cannot hear anything because my iPhone thinks headphones are plugged in from when I last listened to music. There is no volume coming out of the normal speaker for phone calls and if I attempt to adjust volume it references headphones. Can anyone assist? Thanks. iPhone Windows XP
I have a 3G phone which I upgraded from an EDGE when the 3Gs came out - I think the old EDGE had this issue too.Every so often, a day like today happens, where I wake up in the morning around 10:30AM and realize that my iPhones Clock App alarms at 5:50AM and 6:10AM did not go off (no audio alert). And that the iPhones Calendar alarm did not go off at 9:00AM (no audio alert). And that the three calls I had at 10AM did not ring and the related voice mail alerts did not sound. I had also recieved 7 emails that did not produce the push notification audio alert via the iPhone Mail app (via MobleMe).So I overslept and missed all the urgent phone calls and emails I was receiving. When I got up, I woke up the iPhone and was immediately presented with the 1st alarm (5 hours late), then the 2nd alarm, then the 3rd calendar alarm, before I was finally audibly notified of the 3 missed calls (which never rang), 2 voice mails and 7 emails that were apparently blocked from notifying me for some bizarre reason. The phone was not turned off. It was not on silent/vibrate and the volume was up to maximum. The battery was not dead. The phone is, as it always is, set to sleep after 5 minutes. Can anyone please help me? What the Frack is going on? Why is this device failing at everything just because I was sleeping? Now that I got passed that blockage of multiple notifications, the phone rings and all alerts sound. But now I cant trust it to wake me up tomorrow with an alarm or if the phone was to ring. This is so stupid. Shouldnt the phone ring if it is on? Shouldnt my alarms sound even though the phone is sleeping (not off)? iMac 24" 2.4GHZ Mac OS X (10.5.6) 4GB RAM

This is getting to be slightly annoying. I had a problem a few weeks ago where my iPhone had no sound on my end on calls. Speaker, earpiece, and headset were all out. All sound functions were fine outside of the phone part. Music, Apps, and even voicemail were fine... To make a long story short, the Apple retail store in Charlotte NC deemed it a hardware problem and replaced it.Now the replacement has lost sound in speakerphone and headphones, again only on calls, but works fine via the earpiece. All other functions work perfectly through the headphones and the speaker. A restore via iTunes has not resolved the problem. It is not the headphone glitch. Already checked for that. Another trip to Apple is not an option. Charlottes store is a 4 hour round trip for me. AT&T cant swap iPhones, even though they are under warranty with Apple.I am seriously near the point of putting it on ebay and buying another model smart phone due to lack of local support. My first gen iPhone never had a single problem like this in a whole year, and my girlfriends first gen is still operating perfectly at almost 2 years old. As for my luck with 3G, its looking like I need a 3rd 3G unit in under 9 months.Does anyone know what could be causing this? After looking at all the similar reports here on sound problems, Im starting to think the 3G may just be bad.
