While making calls I hear buzz sound with turned off 3G. iPhone 4

I never had this with my 2G Blackberry Curve in the same areaI live in an area where 2G is stronger than 3G (I seem to get 1 more bar when I turn off 3G). However, once I do that I get a weird buzz sound (like there was a static interference). Its the same kind of sound you here from computer speakers when you place a phone near them. But I tested it away from potential interference sources. Once I turned on 3G, the voice was clean and there was no more buzz sound! I hear those sounds on low when I put to phone to my head. When use speakerphone I hear no static sounds. I had Blackberry Curve 8310 before with ATT that did calls on 2G only and had never this issue. I am using phone without case waiting for a free one in the mail, but I dont hold the bottom and it still does that. Should I take it to Apple Store and diagnose it? Did you have the same problem? iphone 4 iOS 4

dear apple fix your stupid ios4 iphone 3g issues or die

seriously? i shouldnt have to downgrade the operating system, or wait for weeks or months while you play with iphone 4 and the ipad and try to revamp the ipods of yesteryear. my phone freezes almost every time a call comes in, it wont load contacts and there is no menu while i am dialing a phone number. everything else works great but you see, the only thing is i have an iphone not an ipod touch so making calls is a pretty important thing here. my mom is whining about me not answering her calls because she has a 3gs and so does my step dad and they are begining to believe i am making it up about these issues....and its your stupid fault for not fixing the stupid issues.so please fix your operating system before i do the unthinkable and take my business to another carrier with an unlocked and jailbroken device. jerks! iPhone 4 screen flicker on call screen

I am getting a screen flicker while on my call screen. It appears to happen anytime the data activity indicator goes off. Doesnt matter if I have Wi-Fi enabled or not. Screen brightness settings also have no effect. Doent matter if Im holding the phone or laying flat on the table. It seems as though the data activity can be forced to occur when switching from home screen to the call screen, so I made a video of doing that but it happens throughout my calls. I usually wear a headset so thats why I noticed it. Notice the flicker always seems to occur at/around the time of the data activity indicator going off. I havent seen the screen flicker on any other screens except the call screen. I havent noticed this on my wifes iPhone, will try the same thing on hers. Anyone else seen this?Youtube video:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e3m2_3ykWGw iPhone 4 iOS 4

Proximity Sensor Woes iPhone 3G

Hi. I have recently been having a bit of trouble with my iPhone 3G. When making calls the proximity sensor fails to lock the screen, and thus I end up creating havoc with my ears. I presumed this was a faulty sensor, however something else rather interesting has been happening as well, randomly the screen fails to respond during normal use, but continues to function again when I cover the proximity sensors with my fingers. It will sometimes work again if I lock and unlock the iPhone. Any ideas? iPhone 3G iOS 4

Dropped phone White screen iPhone 3G

I recently dropped my Iphone 3g and all I have is a white screen. I can still answer calls and what not, I just cant see what I am doing. The Apple store said they could fix it for 100$ with a screen replacement. How could I do the replacement myself? Do I need a new screen? Or a new LCD? Windows Windows XP Pro

2nd iPhone 4 with issues

Hi, I am on my second iPhone 4 with the following issues:Bad coverage, my iPhone 3G could make and recieve calls where this one cant. When connected to my car kit on bluetooth, the audio quality is shocking. Intermittantly when I recieve calls and answer them the phone continues to make short ring tones while the call is connected. When I move off a wifi network on to 3G then on to a different Wi-Fi network I have to restart the iphone before it will connect to a wifi network.I have tested all the issues above with other phones - they test fine with a Nokia E63 and a Blackberry bold - So its definitely the iPhone 4.Im really dissapointed with apple, and dont feel that i can trust any of their other products after this.Im really frustrated as Vodafone keep saying there are no issues with the iPhone. Is anyone experiencing the above, and have any ideas of how to fix it?Thanks Dell E6510 Windows 7 IOS 4.0.1 iPhone 3G

Reception tips iPhone 3G

I just moved into a basement apartment, and now i get little to no reception. Im not looking forward to missing calls and going outside to make calls in the winter. Done with iPhone after 3g ios4 update

Since the ios4 update, my iPhone 3G has become all but totally unusable. I know Im not the only one having these problems, and I know Apple is well aware of the issue.Im writing not to ask for a solution to this problem (since I know there isnt one yet), but to voice my dissatisfaction with the way this has been handled by Apple. Sending out an OS update that renders my two-year-old product unusable, leaving me with no recourse other than to purchase a new phone, makes me, as a consumer, feel angry, cheated, and manipulated. Simply trying to send texts or make phone calls is now such a infuriating experience that Im forced to look for a new cellphone. Because of this experience, and because of the lack of support Ive received, Ive decided it will not be another iPhone. Im a long time Apple customer and Mac user. Im now done with the iPhone and will be thinking twice before purchasing ANY Apple products in the future. iPhone 3G iOS 4

16gb iPhone 4 here, havent had any antenna issues/proximity sensor issues or any of that noise. but all of a sudden, within the past few days, my service in my house has gone to ****-- the phone is almost constantly switching between 3G and edge. i havent had fantastic service at home before but its never been this abysmal, i usually get a couple of bars of 3G with no problem, and 3-4 3G bars in my room upstairs. anyone else experiencing this? its killing my battery, causing me to miss calls, etc. super irritating.im in north NJ for clarification, thanks for any input. 2.4ghz mbp, 16gb iPhone 4 Mac OS X (10.6.1) defunct 900MHz iBook G3 12", 1.5ghz 15" powerBook G4.

Dropped calls AND hold second call dialing IP4 iPhone 4

So, Ive also had call after call dropped. I thought it was just the way I was holding it, as I frequently hold it on my shoulder while Im walking around. Never had that problem with the previous model. So I got a case or two thinking that would help.....still dropping the calls, so I hold the phone at an angle now (which isnt real convenient). Now randomly the call will suddenly be on speaker, or will be on hold, & at 1:20 am,somehow it dialed my brothers number as a second call while I was on another call. I swear I was just sitting in the same position very still talking on the phone, when I hear a dialing sound, and luckily, I guess for me, it was my brother not someone else, although he wasnt too thrilled about the 1:00 am wakeup call either! Has else had dropped call problems iPhone 4

Let me start by saying that it took me several years to finally buy my first Apple product. I refused to buy the hype and thought that people were insane for standing in lines for hours just to purchase Apple’s latest releases. After knowing people who had iPhones, and loved them for many years, and having spent plenty of time playing with them, I broke down and bought a 3GS. I was immediately hooked and never looked back. The phone was the most awesome piece of technology/gadgetry I had ever owned. I have since converted other nonbelievers to loyal iPhone enthusiasts. After my 3GS experience, and some serious problems with Windows 7 and Internet Explorer, I seriously started considering buying a Mac and utilizing Apple for all of my software and hardware needs. Unfortunately, that was until my 3GS was stolen and I decided to upgrade to the new iPhone4. Now I find myself questioning whether or not I want to still have anything to do with Apple at all.The initial problem I had with the phone was dropped call after dropped call. However, the larger, and much more upsetting issue, I now have is getting someone to acknowledge that the dropped calls are an issue. Besides the fact that I feel Apple has down-played the issue, I have grown even more upset with the attitude of the salespeople at my local Apple Store. After voicing my unhappiness in experiencing more dropped calls than successful ones, I am talked to as if it is all in my head. Instead of someone, anyone, saying that there is a problem with the phone, they say things like, “Try turning off your 3G before making calls, the bumper case should help the issue, maybe we need to replace your SIM card, and the network is experiencing increased call activity.” And the stories and excuses go on and on. I would have never expected Apple, who I truly believed only put the most superior products out on the market, to have released a phone with so many flaws. If it was Microsoft, however, I wouldn’t have been the least bit surprised. What bothers me even more are the people that are so blinded by the hype, that they swear it is not a big deal to turn off their 3G, or put a case on the phone, or to exchange the phone multiple times for other faulty iPhone4’s. Because I believe that everyone deserves second chances, I am not abandoning Apple just yet. I am returning my iPhone4 for another 3GS until Apple gets their act together. Until then, I am doing my absolute best to talk people out of purchasing the new iPhone4. While I have already successfully stopped several people from buying the new phones, the most amazing one was my very own father—a man that works in the Silicon Valley and has waited in Apple lines three times: once for the first generation iPhone, once for the 3GS, and once for two iPads he purchased (one for his wife and one for my sister). He is extremely loyal to Apple, as are most of his engineering, Bay Area buddies. However, he has friends that are just as disappointed with the new iPhone4 as I am, and says that he will not be purchasing one.Apple, please stop telling us that there is not a problem and that there are a series of simple things that can be done to help alleviate the problems we are imagining that we are having. If this issue is not handled properly—meaning a total recall of the faulty devices—I am afraid that you just might find your loyal customer base declining year after year. I had a horrible experience with Bank of America over ten years ago and have never gone back to them since. I am not alone in feeling this way about other things. It only takes one experience for people to swear off a product or company, never to return again. Can anyone else tell me if they feel the same way or if I am all alone? PC iOS 4

Call Drops and Terrible Bluetooth Call Quality iPhone

Hello,I just picked up and iPhone 4 in the New York City area two weeks ago and in general like the phone very much as a data device, though I am having huge problems with calls. I know that AT&T is not the best provider, however as a business user I would imagine that:1. A call drop rate of 50%-60% is unacceptable and may be due to other issues. When on a call sometimes driving and other times stationary I hear a double beep and see call failed on the phone. This happens a lot, as I mentioned on 50-60% of my calls and when the antenna bar shows 3+ bars.2. Using a Plantronics Voyager headset, one of the best I have ever used, sounds terrible, dropping every other word, when the phone is a few feet away.If there is not a fix for this that this forum can offer, I have to question the viability of this phone for my business needs.I am open to any and all suggestions.BP Iphone 4 iOS 4

If I drop ONE MORE CALL iPhone 4

Ok I know its my first post but I need to vent... I had an iPhone 3Gs and that was the best phone EVER. It never dropped a call, everything worked perfect... well where I work bought it for me. They giveth and taketh away... gave me an iPhone 4 and gave my phone to someone else... This phone is the PITS! I want to literally stomp it with a sledgehammer!! It drops every call... then you cant call back... Ive done all the upgrades. I bring it into the store, in 2 weeks it dropped 150 calls! Its a work phone, it rings a LOT. Well they give me another one and guess what?? this one is WORSE. Put a case on it.. USELESS! That did nothing. Now on Monday I have yet another appointment with an Apple store and pray they give me yet another one that oh I dont know...works?? Is there ANY way to go in and request a downgrade!?!? Im completely fed up at this point and to top it off since its a work phone, everyone around me is getting ticked off. Its like walking around with a big toy... I can play games, email and text...woohoo... sigh. There has to be others out there with this nightmare?? iPhone iOS 4

nice updatesfixes but what about reception issue iPhone 4

Dont want to beat a proverbial dead horse, but what about making the IPhone 4 a better receiver of calls? My 3Gs was the BEST phone I ever owned. I rarely had a dropped call, I was able to make and receive calls in places where no phone I had owned previously could. When I read that this phone had the best reception of any IPhone (according to Apple) I went and made the switch. Yes, I read many posts where folks say just that, great phone. I am on IPhone 4 number three and all have been plagued with reception issues, thought the first two were worse than this one. I go to the same locations every day and the 3Gs sent and received calls remarkably better. Just sayin..... IPhone 4 Number 3 Mac OS X (10.4.7)

No Service restore still No Service restore iPhone 4

OK, so a few days ago I finally got around to upping to iOS 4.02. The next day, I started getting an abhorrent number of dropped calls, fail to connects, no internet service, the works. Mostly while driving, making this more annoying (the little bzzzzzzzz of a dropped call in my earpiece, not so fun.I am, in fact, in possession of a clue (as well as a degree in Information Systems), so I start troubleshooting on my own. Jumping into an out of Airplane mode (force to look for network) results in a temporary fix - as in, about 3 seconds of connectivity. Resetting ALL network settings seems to result in about the same. After three or four cycles of this, the phone drops service again, but displays a message saying that it was unable to make or recieve calls, and that I needed to preform a restore.Which I did. And it worked. For thirty seconds, and then I got the same message. So I restored. Again. Reset network settings again, just to be safe.It just dropped a call on me to my mother. Im going to have a lot of fun hearing about how I hung up on her, except that I have... you guessed it, No Service. No restore message though.Im using a silicone case, the phone is sitting on my desk now, wasnt touching it, let alone the antenna when any of this happened, using my headset actually, my wifes got 5 bars of tower even using the death grip, and so does my old 3G (work pays for it, so I have 3 AT&T lines) and Im less than a mile away from a tower, and we usually get really good service here. I dont think its an AT&T problem b/c my other lines are fine.Im out of suggestions. Anyone else seeing anything like this? iPhone 4 iOS 4 ?

Intermittently stops receivingsending texts and calls iPhone 4

First of all, love the new phone. I have had a strange recurring problem, though. Every 3-4 days, my phone stops sending and receiving calls and txts, even though it has a full signal. I end up restarting the phone and it again begins working fine. Any ideas?

microphone level too low iPhone 4

It seems like the microphone input level on my wifes iPhone 4 is too low. People have trouble hearing her during her calls. Using the headset, speakerphone, or Bluetooth doesnt increase the volume, nor does covering up the noise-cancelling input on the top. Using the voice recorder app, I used the same headset the same distance from my mouth to compare the meter volume against my 1st gen iPhone, and the input comes in at least 6dB lower. Is this a defective model that needs to be returned? Or is this expected as part of the new design? My wife says she cant use it as a phone, it may have to go back. It would be great if a future iOS update allowed us to adjust the input level. iPhone 4 iOS 4

Who Has Had Perfect iPhone 4 Experience

My iPhone experience has been flawless! I ordered on 6/16 in the evening with no problem. Received a ship by 7/14 date and a deliver by 7/14-7/19 date. I received an email from Apple on Friday that the order had been released and tracked the package a couple of times over the holiday at my lakehouse for the holiday and received it today (7/6) in mid-afternoon. The sync process was seamless, everything came over. Using the phone around town today, taking photos, sending and receiving texts, and I have not had problem #1. No dropping calls, no damaged or colored screen, no missing iPhone when I opened the box. The process has been very well done and the iPhone is really outstanding. The screen presentation is amazing, the new form factor is much easier too handle than any of the previous versions. Given that I cant believe everyone writing in is hallucinating, or incompetent or worse, lying...I wonder how many have an excellent experience like I have? I, for one, say thanks Apple, great job and also have to extend condolences to those that seem to have less than a great experience. iPhone 4 iOS 4 iPad 32 Gb, MacBook Pro 13", Max OS X 10.6.4, Apple TV, Time Capsule

iPhone Speaker Busted

The one where you hear calls/listen to voicemail..that speaker.Okay, I got syrup in the speaker, & tried getting it out with my nail & then used a toothpick. I got all of the syrup out, but when I checked my voicemail right after that happened, you could barely hear anything. I also made a phone call, still couldnt hear. I can plug my headphones in & hear. Major Problem iphone 4. I can hear them they cannot hear me.

This has been happening for the last 3 days. I make or receive a call on my iPhone 4 and within seconds the party on the other line cannot hear me at all. I hear them perfectly but they cannot hear me. Sometimes it happens right away sometimes it takes several seconds but my voice completely drops out. They did not perform any diagnostics. Im on the road all day and my business depends on my phone. Question about screeningrejecting calls etc iPhone 4

Hi, Im new to the forums as of today. I had a 3G for a while, upgraded because of the OS4 issues (to a Samsung Galaxy) then went back and ordered an iPhone 4 instead because, well... I love the interface, apps, and my iTunes music that I was unable to port over. Not a fan of the mp3/computer interfacing of android phones, I think the sync stuff with iTunes is far more user friendly. But...onto my real issue/questionLong story short, I did like one feature from the Galaxy and that was to auto-reject a call with a filler text message such as Im driving or will call back, and I cant figure out how or if we can do this on an iPhone.Ive done some research on this and some google suggestions such as http://www.programmerfish.com/send-auto-sms-on-iphone-4/ say this feature is automatic on this phone since its an iPhone 4 but every time I double click the power button it just sends the call to voicemail with no such interface to send a reject message etc. Does anybody know what the deal is? Such a thing would be handy and I dont see why Apple wouldnt build this into these phones. Are these articles lying? iPhone 4 iOS 4

Horrible Iphone 4 genius bar experience

Hello all,I wanted to share a recent experience I had recently with my Iphone 4, since I have not been able to find a suitable customer service center to speak to. A letter of the situation will be sent to BBB and also Cupertino.About 2 weeks ago my Iphone 4 started malfunctioning, about 2 days after it turned off and never came back on. I went to the local ATT store and they could not help me but I had them forward my calls. They said I had to go the Apple store. The next day I went to the Apple store in Rancho Cucamonga and had a 2 hour wait. Once I finally got to the genius bar there was no attempt to fix the phone, I got the feeling they knew what was wrong and the fix was a new replacement on the spot. I was happy about that, all he did was swap the SIM cards and he said it would activate in a couple of hours.I left on a business trip, and after various calls with Apple and ATT they informed me that at the genius bar they had voided my SIM card instead of activating it. The only way to fix it was to go back to the Apple Store.Yesterday I visited the Apple Store in Brea, California. They informed me that the wait was about 24 hours to which I explained my situation and that all I needed was a new SIM card and re activation (it takes less than 5 Minutes). He said he couldnt help me and I told him that if had to wait that long it would be to return the phone, he said he would get his manager. The Manager turned out to be one of the most insensitive and unprofessional individual I have ever encountered. He did not cared to hear my situation and instructed me to take the next appointment at 6:10 pm the next day, I said I wanted to return the phone immediately. He said that the I would HAVE TO TAKE THE SAME APPOINTMENT TIME TO RETURN THE PHONE! I felt like exploding on him but my 5 year old daughter was next to me and wasnt worth it.I have an appointment tomorrow in Rancho to return the phone. Ive reactivated an old account with a previous carrier and even as I typed this on my Ipad I have such a bad taste for their customer service I feel sick to my stomach. Apple has great products but such arrogance will only make you lose more customers. IPad

iPhone 4 Reliability

I have had the iPhone 4 since the first day of availability. This phone compared to my old 3GS and the other 3GSs in my household is totally unreliable. I waited to get a bumper thinking that would help. No change. I got a Otterbox which completely isolates the phone. No change. I took the phone to AT&T and they said go to Apple. Apple said my phone was fine but offered to reload all the SW. No change. In my home I have a AT&T Micro Cell. All my 3GS phone work fine. My iPhone 4 is full of static and dropped calls. The phone is performing like a cheap knock off. I wrote Apple but no response. Apple needs to figure out what is going on and fix these phones. I am stuck with an expensive AT&T plan and a phone that is so unreliable, I find myself not even using it. When is Apple going to address these problems. This is not an antenna problem that a bumper will fix.If this has had a lot of discussion, I apologize for bring it up again, but I am frustrated. A colleague who has been an Apple advocate just told me he switched from a 3GS to a Droid. He suggested that I go to AT&T and buy a cheap phone that works. That has prompted me to realize that I should not be paying for a phone that just does not work. And when I say it does not work, if I can not count on it reliably, it is useless. I upgraded to 4.0.2 a couple of days ago and since then I have dropped 7 calls. In the entire month and a half leading up to this I dropped 2 and 1 of those was my fault (covered up the lower left corner before I knew better). I spoke with my wife and a couple of friends and every one of them has also noticed this problem. Now I want to know if everyone else has noticed this or is it just a local thing (Jenison/Grand Rapids MI area). As a side note my batter drains a heck of a lot faster since I upgraded as well. Dialing from address book entries with area codes iPhone

All entries in the address book have phones with the area code prepended. Just the area code, not including the 0 before the area code to identify it.When the iPhone dials a number this way, ZXNXXXXXXX (asterisk format), the carrier replies an error message informing the number is wrong. Both TIM and Claro do that. If an 0 is dialed before the Z, then the call goes through. Adding the 0 to the number is not an option, for it will mess when roaming abroad. The Motorola, K1, V3 and DEXT (Android - Cliq in the USA), knows how to dial calls without the preceding 0.Is there a fix to this problem? Thanks iPhone 3Gs iOS 4 IOS 4.0.1 MacBook Pro OS 10.5.8

Frequent Dropped calls in 3G E and WiFi iPhone 4

Ive been experiencing dropped calls. Last night, on 3G, Wifi, and E, my calls dropped 18 times in one hour. I am beginning to think this has nothing to do with AT&T. Even when I called 611, during calls, my call drops. And the interesting thing is: this happens on full bars (reception) on all three network (3G, E, and Wifi).Anyone experiencing the same? iPhone 4 iOS 4

iPhone 4 Bumber Offer Ends 23 Aug 2010

Its the end of a wonderful day and I just got off the phone with Apple. Evidently the window closed to get your bumper for the new iPhone4 on 23 August... frustrated to say the least. I wish I had never purchased this phone. So here we are with two $300 cell phones (and a high monthly cell phone bill) that drops calls like a hot potato... I am rethinking my loyalty to the Apple Brand. Apple cant provide a solution for the antenna problem until the 24 hour news cycle ends. iPhone 4G iOS 4

iPhone Manufacture Unlock-hope

I recently purchased a non-contract iPhone 4 from Apple in DC expecting to have an unlocked version of the phone since I live overseas and plan to use local carriers. To my surprise, the non-contract iPhone 4 is locked and I am not able to use the phone features (making calls). Can Apple send me a carrier unlock since that is what I have paid extra for, a non-contract version. MacBook Pro 15 Mac OS X (10.6.4) iPhone 4

iPhone4 bumper

The iPhone4 bumper MC59ZM/A is a total mismatch to the iPhone. In order to sync or recharge the phone you have to remove the bumper each time an unacceptable solution to preventing dropped calls. It seems to me a redesign and new offering to iPhone4 customers is mandatory. It is like getting undressed each time you want to sync and recharge the phone. What unnecessary motions and a waste of time to carry out when a properly designed bumper would not require undressing and redressing the iPhone. iphone4 iOS 4
