Activation screen comes up on an already activated phone iPhone 3G

Ive had an active iPhone 3g since July. Twice in the last 24 hrs: once when home button pressed to awaken after just being in my pocket and the other time when powering on after being off for the night, i got the screen graphic showing connect to iTunes to activate (graphic of cord and iTunes logo) as if the phoe were brand new, with no service and only the ability to make a emergency call from the keypad (after slide). Luckily i was near my computer both time but may not be if it happens again. Once attached to computer and device recognized by iTunes, the phone screen says iPhone activated and everything is back to normal. All my apps, tunes, contacts, etc are still there.i take real good care of the phone. Never dropped; usually in my pocket when not in use. Software says up-to-date.Never happened previous to yesterday and nothing different that day. Anyone else having this issue? Any recommendations? Apple support said to restore the phone via iTunes. What a hassle, with all the backing up i have to do. But if that is the only recourse, Ill have to do. Its like, well weve never heard of that one so just restore it - an easy answer. Any other ideas that are not so drastic? iphone

Restoring as new device it download new software iPhone

Ive been having various problems even after restoring from backup multiple times. At the Apple store, i was told to restore and select setup new device instead of restoring from backup, incase my backup was corrupted. The rep told me that iTunes would download fresh copies of the operating software, firmware and all apps. Is this true? At no point during the process did iTunes appear to be downloading anything. i want to make sure i did the most thorough restore possible. Thanks!! iPhone 3G 16GB

Download Music from store but not Podcasts over 3G iPhone

i was very exciting to hear during todays keynote that downloading from the iTunes store would now be available over the 3G network. But this option only seems to be available with music and not Podcasts. Or am i doing something wrong? Can anyone else download Podcasts over the 3G network? PLEASE READ IT IM BEGGING YOU. Hello this question is actually short but im telling you what made it happen. So i wanted to upgrade my iphone to 2.0 version instead of 1.1.4. because i wanted to put some games or apps you may call it. So while it was upgrading. In the iphone it showed the apple icon and it was loading on the iphone and in the computer too just wondering if thats normal anyways. SO after it was finished. i turned my iphone on and it said slide for emergency so i slided it and want to call my house see if it works but it doesnt. the itunes reads my iphone except it says the SIM card is not supported. Soo i did couple of restores i tried i downloading a program it didnt work it said the iphone is not connected even though it was. i tried another program also didnt work waited for 1h:30mins and nothing happened. guided tour not working iPhone 3G

Hello - i am trying to watch the 3G guided tour from the website and i keep getting the download quicktime screen over and over. Ive downloaded again, thinking that my quicktime needed up update, Ive restarted my computer 2x. i downloaded again and checked repair...i still get the screen and no video to watch. i tried downloading to my computer and when i opened it, it said i needed a blue-ray something or other and required me to buy something. i said no to the purchase and then it started to play the video SOUND ONLY. not sure what is going on. youd think i could just watch it from the website. Does anyone have any suggestions? this is very frustrating!! Windows XP

New iPhone 3G Needs Update to 2.2

i have a brand new iPhone 3G and it has version 2.1 software installed. i also have an iPod Touch that has been updated to 2.2. When i connected the iPhone to iTunes tonight, i thought it might be able to use the 2.2 download i alredy had for the touch, but it wants to download it again. WiFi Question iPhone 3G

i noticed last night that my iPhone 3G does not have the WiFi symbol up in the information bar. i have an E up there. i have the 3G turned off when at home because i have WiFi. i go to the WiFi setting and it shows the network, with a check next to it, but Safari seems slow like it is downloading through the E network. Anyone have any ideas on what could be going on? i was using the iPhone at home all day yesterday, and i saw the WiFi symbol all day. Noticed the problem last night and this morning. YouTube downloading Slow Over Wifi iPhone

Ive been having issues with youTube videos downloading slow on my 2G iPhone 2.2 when connected to my wireless G router ( a Netgear WGR614 ). Some nights it appears fine and others like tonight after you select a video and the progress bar appears you see hardly any streaming. My iBook G4 running 10.4.11 connects wirelessly to the same G router. When i go to the same youTube video it streams faster than the playback. The iPhone just wont stream fast tonight.Ive shut the phone down, quit and reentered youTube several times and turned off and on the Wifi connection.Ive noticed a few videos will stream fast enough where the video starts within a few seconds while others will hardly stream or it will start then stop halfway into the 3 or 4 minute video.Thanks. iMac 20" 2.4 Mac OS X (10.5.4) 320g, 4gig ram

No service after 2.2 update iPhone 3G

After downloading the 2.2 update, i cannot get any phone service. If i restart my phone, i get 5 bars for about a second, it then jumps down to no bars, then it displays no service. iPhone 3G Home button problems .

Obviously Im not the only one...Come on guys give me some feedback. Newby here, and this is my first Apple product, i bought the phone last Friday on Dec. 12th, by the 13th the Home button had already quite working. i tried to go back up to the AT&T store to switch it out, not only were they rude about the whole ordeal but ofcourse sent me packing back to Apple directly. So,i spent 3.5 hrs on Sunday the 14th, on the phone w/ apple cust. service, and downloading the necessary upgrade 2.2 (which now i find out has more bugs than the phone came with) and it still did not fix my problem. Then had to do the complete restore on the phone through my computer. Problem fixed....so i thought. By monday the 15th the phones Home button goes out again... Now today the 16th Im on the phone w/ Apple cust. service yet again, telling me to send the phone into them b/c the closest Apple store is 4 hrs away, and i guess it would really be too easy for me just to run the phone back to the AT&T Store i purchased it from wouldnt it....That makes too much sense, but for 30 bucks apple will let me use a loaner phone. Now Im really doubting this whole iphone deal, Seriously guys, is this going to be an ongoing problem w/ this phone, i dont want to have to carry around a usb cable in my back pocket and have to tote a laptop with me every where i go so that i can do a complete phone restore every/other day ya know. i wouldnt buy a Porsche if i knew that i had to carry around jumper cables and look for some one to jump me off every time i left the house...just b/c you look good getting there is useless if the product doesnt crank when you need to get home....Also, lets say by some reason i do get one that the Home button actually works on....Should i stay away from the 2.2 download? i was also about to pull the trigger on a new mac, but though i would try a smaller/simpler item first before dropping a couple of grand on a company that Im not familiar with, but after this experience Im really not to excited about doing that...Any help or info. will be greatly appreciated....thanks for your time. Hard drive failure. iPhone

My hard drive packed up last week, and i didnt save my itunes back up anywhere.i lost most of my apps (that i have now re-downloaded), when i got a new HD and put itunes back on and synced for the first time.However, i have all of my songs on my phone, but not in itunes.Is there a way to transfer my tunes from my iphone back into my itunes, or will i have to load my 83 CDs back into it, and spend ages making my own compilations again? Not to mention having to scan the Cd covers that were too obscure for itunes to find last time i put them on.i have heard that this is a one way transfer (itunes to iphone only), for some stupid reason. Surely it would be easy for itunes to read your iphone serial number and maybe your motherboard serial number and store them within your account as a security code, so you can can upload your songs back into itunes.BTW, i am using Windows Vista.Can anyone help me?Message was edited by: PCthug_uk Windows Vista

Battery drain after downloading free apps BUT never launched them iPhone 3G

i have searched all 7 pages of iPhone 3G section, any topic with battery in subject line, did not find a match, so posting new question.Im a new 3G owner; use wifi and bluetooth, fetch mail manually (no push); battery life easily holds 2-3 days with my typical usage; had never downloaded an app; last night decided to browse the free app store; download several stupid games and a few apps (google earth, urban spoon, shazaam, weather channel). BUT have not launched ANY of them...just the new icons sitting on my phone. However, today, after fully charging last night, battery dropeed to 20% by about noon. ???Again, havent changed a setting nor have i launched any of the apps i downloaded (was planning to play this weekend). Any ideas? Or should i just unistall all of them and download one at a time and watch it going forward?Thanks for any advice. PC Windows XP Pro iPhone 3G

Hopefully this will help.This is my first apple product since the Apple II (pc). i bought an i phone tonight and had it for about an hour when i decided to sync the phone. i went to my computer plugged the sucker in and a new version of i tunes was avail. i dld that and the was given the option of updating to the new os? Revision 2.2. When i completed the dls My Iphone froze and kept looping to try to restart itself. Error 14 was the cose i think. i went to apple support who recommended i reboot my computer. (soo helpful). Google had no answers. Searched this forum with a few hints, but nothing worked and i wasnt about to kill over 8 gigs of music rips from CDs to reinstall Itunes. So here is what i did to fix it and i hope it helps a few of you If you are getting an error or looping error.LOOPING ERROR FIX:1.) Sync before upgrading (i didnt so this and lost all my settings)2.) Open the folder that has the update in it and delete the update.3.) Restart Itunes and connect the phone 4.) Chose Restore5.) This should re-download the update and fix the phone back to factory settings at which point you can sync and get your settings backI think these errors are caused by corrupt data in the rather large update downloald that causes the looping beeeeehavior..Hope this helps alll the bricks. Crazy Data Usage-69 MB in just one day iPhone

i bought my mom an iPhone in Canada when the 3G came out and last month she travelled to the USA to visit her family. SHe asked me if she could use the data plan there and i told her to use it sparingly because it costs 1 cent per kilobyte. He said she would not open any attachments or browse the web, she was only going to read and reply to important text emails. If figured it most cost her $30 or $40 for her week long trip. My mom is no technophile. She uses email incredibly sparingly, and doesnt even know how to download applications or download music or pretty much anything else.So end the end, when she got back from Atlanta, she told me her bill was $800! She says she only checked her email once or twice per day and only downloaded important messages which had no attachments.i just got a copy of her bill today. Most days it looks reasonable. 100 kb - 400 kb per day.Then theres one day where she used 70 MB in one day! Her charge for that single day was like $400. What could she have possibly done that would use 70 MB in one day by only reading emails. Her mail account quota is probably less than 70 MB and she only read NEW messages with no attachments. She probably doesnt even regularly use 70 MB of email storage/bandwidth in a month! Is there some sort of bug that could result in runaway data usage? After that day there are a few days where she uses 10 MB per day, which also seems unusual but not as crazy as the 70 MB day.i looked back at my bill from AT&T over a week when i had no wifi access. i am a heavy data user, and i only used 30 MB per day max. And i was downloading applications, using safari, emailing photos, basically using my data plan to the max (good thing it was unlimited).Does anybody have any ideas about where this ridiculous charge could have come from, and how to prevent it from happening again? The worst part is, she obviously didnt know she was using that much data. i told her 70 MB is the equivalent of downloading 350 large photos (200 kb jpegs) and she said she didnt even download one single attachment.Is it even possible to contest this charge with Rogers Macbook 2.4 Ghz Mac OS X (10.5.5) 4 GB RAM

SMS alert-i dont want name of sender appearing on screen iPhone

Prior to downloading the recent upgrade, my SMS alert would simply notify me that i had a new text message but would not identify the sender. Now, the senders names appears on the screen. How can i change my setting so that the senders name is not visible? Windows XP

Hi. i hope you can assist me. My iphone is looking to the USA for both App Store and also Itunes. And i am in the UK! This is despite my taking a number of steps to rectify this;1. Ensuring the frontpage of my itunes store on the pc shows UK store.2. Checking the apple account information on itunes on my pc is showing GBR.3. Visiting my o2 store seeking assistance. 4. Contacting Apple Care who say they can offer no more as they have ensured i have tried everything they can offer and suggested contacting Apple Support Discussions or visiting an Apple Store4. downloading current itunes software to pc - 8.02.205. Syncing my iphone a number of times even after all the suggested changes.Both myself, the o2 store and apple care are now at a loss as to what to do next to rectify my problem, as i am unable to download anything from either app store or itunes from my iphone as i am not a USA user. i get the Error 9006 while downloading 2.2 firmware, it can stop at 20mb or 200mb. Never been able to complete the download. i am using Windows XP.This is exactly the same problem when i tried to dwl firmware 2.1, in the end i had to find the firmware file myself.Can anyone help? Re-download previously purchased Itunes. iPhone 3G

My hard drive went caput. Geeks installed a new hard drive. i download Itunes and restored my Itunes library from backup. The issue i have, since my last Itune library backup i had purchased additional music and videos which resided on my Iphone 3g.When i connected the Iphone to my restored laptop/itunes, the sync process wiped out my iphone music and videos and synced from my restored itunes library (not including the recent music and vidoes).i have receipts of recent Itunes purchases. Capacity Issue iPhone

Okay, i having trouble understanding a capacity issue-First off i have a 3G 16GB i-phoneWhen i logged into i-tunes it says i cant upload anymore music or photos b/c i dont have enough space. i look into my phone and it tells me i have 1363 songs, 20 photos and 0 videos. It says that i have the capacity of 14.6 GB yet my available is only 1.4GB!!. i only have 20 applications so i dont think thats it. Also the capacity bar at i-tunes says that 6.72GB categorize as other that is taking up the space. i also have my calendar sync, yet i dont think this can take up that much space. So can anyone figure out what i have in my phone that is eating up my memory. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

New 2.2 Update for i-Phone Causing Email to Trash Headaches iPhone 3G

Dutifully downloaded new i-tunes version to my Mac Book Pro, then patiently waited for the obese download to complete it’s activities, prior to installing on my i-phone.Having done so i used the phone and when attempting to move my email messages either via ‘tapping’ the trash can logo or using the edit / delete function received the following Template message- Unable to Move Message The message could not be moved to the Mailbox Trash.This occurred when i alternatively manually moved all my read mail from the Inbox to the Trash File.The outcome of this is that i now have an increasing amount of emails in my trash folder that i cannot remove. Attempt to update to 2.1 giving error iPhone 3G

When i try to update my iPhone 3G to latest firmware 2.1, i get the following error message, There was a problem downloading the iPhone software for the iPhone my names iPhone. The service is temporarily unavailable. At first i thought the server was really down, but this keeps happening for days now, and others are obviously able to upgrade theirs. i have upgraded to iTunes 8.0. i have also uninstalled all Apple software and re-installed. Iphone unable to download Apps from store to my phone.

As above. The phone has been downloading when syncing great, but about 2 weeks ago it stopped downloading apps to my phone. i down load apps from the shop it goes onto apps board. Faulty iPhone 3G

Hi, basically i have had my iPhone for a good couple months, i have had a problem where the accelerometer is not set correctly and is permanently wrongly set. Also another problem i have is that after a hour or 2 of 3G downloading and surfing, the phone became very hot, when i locked it, and took the phone out 10 minutes or so later, the screen was just white, not showing any pictures. Now the phone all works but the display is not displaying anything. Will this warrant a replacement ? Power Mac G5 Mac OS X (10.5.5)

PLEASE, IF THERE IS A KIND SOUL OUT THERE...hi, pls help me about my problem here. i was about to sell my iphone 3g 8gb to someone, so i had to erase all the datas in it including the songs, contacts and the others, its my first time using an iphone so i didnt know what to do.i went to general settings and reset all contents and settings, it said that it will take an hour or more. when it ended, i found out that all datas are still not erased that is why i did the same process. when my phone was already on, it says connect to iTunes. and so i did. i also read discussions here about my problem and found out that i have these:1. launch the itunes2. i have to put an unlocked sim to activate the fone3. tap the sleep and home button at the same time to reset the phone, hold until the apple logo appears.4. release the sleep button, continue holding the home button while connecting the iphone to the computer that wait until the connect to itunes appear and then release it, the itunes will then do the forced restoring. it should have read the iphone already.first i did not followed it, i connected the iphone and waited for iTunes to open the phone. but it said that it cannot be read, i had to check if there is a sim and if it is unlocked.so i did what i learned here. i followed the steps.at first, it was successful, the itunes already read the phone.the software was downloaded. it was successful. then the apple logo appeared and the smal circle that means its processing. i waited until the verifying iphone ends. when it did, my phone still says connect to itunes.so i did the same process 3 times. but the downloading of the software didnt show up i guess because my software was already updated, now my problem is, after the third time i did the process, i tried to connect again the iphone to itunes because i think that itll work if i click on the update iphone instead of restore they are the only two icons there, when i tried to connect again my phone, i cant anymore even though i did what the instructions say and i was sure that it will work because it did 3 times already. but it didnt. it always says that it cannot read the iphone and i have to check again the sim. im sure my sim isnt the problem.i CANT USE MY IPHONE BECAUSE i CANT GET RID OF THE CONNECT TO ITUNES. please please help me please. i really need to sell it. thanks. this is very urgent. Keeping requesting password iPhone

My iPhone keep requesting my password everytime i go to App Store after unlocking and im not purchasing anything.i think it may have something to do with an app download that lost its connection while its downloading.Any idea how to fix it? Macbook Mac OS X (10.5.5)

SYNC Locks up with IPHONE-Ideas

A few months ago, my IPHONE and Itunes would stop syncing when updating my contacts. Technical support was useless and i was not able to resolve the problem after restoring the Iphone and downloading Itunes once more. If i unchecked sync contacts (so it would bypass that function) it will successfully update. From the discussion boards Ive seen, there is no known resolution other then to reinstall OS X or create a different identity and re-sync. (Which involves recreating the environment) Can anybody help with additional information so i dont have to reinstall OSX again??? Imac 2GB Intel Duo Mac OS X (10.5.5)

iPhone cant be restaured

Hi guys,First, sorry for my English which is quite horrible, according to my age and my native country (France) i have a problem on my iPhone. i baught an application on the app store this afternoon, and connected my phone to iTunes in order to put this application on.During the transfer, iTunes had a fatal error, and i was obliged to close it, and to open it one more time. As i thaught, i had to restaure my iPhone (hopefully, i made a backup few seconds before).i had some problems to restaure my iPhone : iTunes had some freezes, and i had to try few times to restaure. After few hours of downloading and restauring, a message appeared : According to a critical error, this iPhone cant be restaured (error 2002).Do you have any idea ? What can and sould i do ? downloading albums from iTunes from iPhone

i rarely download whole albums, but i did the other night and it only downloaded 1 song at a time. i could have sworn the last time i downloaded a whole album from my iPhone, which was a long time ago, it downloaded 3 songs at a time...am i imagining this? Excessive Billing iPhone

i have just had my iPhone 3G blocked by Orange here in Europe due to an excessive run of charges whilst traveling recently in the USA - close to 30 x my normal monthly usage! This is my first month with the iPhone 3G and my first international trip using the phone. i did not use it any differently than i did with my previous Treo 650? Is it that that easy to run up call charges with say trying to connect to the internet or downloading emails? i cannot believe that i have accidentally left it connected to the internet for example?? At this time i have not seen the bill and wont until i have paid the charges!! Any feedback on similar experiences would help.

having trouble downloading firmware update through iTunes iPhone

For three days Ive been trying to get iTunes to download the update. i get anywhere from 10% to 80% of the file downloaded, then get a time-out error. When i resume the download, it starts over from the beginning. i must have downloaded the first 100 MB 20 times now.My internet connection is strong and stable, but i have not been able to get this download through iTunes.Is there a direct download available somewhere? Is there a way to have iTunes save a partial download and continue where it left off?Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated. 1st generation iPone (G2?) Lost Apps iPhone 3G

In syncing both my wifes and my iPhones to my iTunes account, i (somehow) managed to screw up my apps in the process.In short, iTunes was downloading my apps from my iPhone despite already having them in the app library. So, after the sync, i would have 2 of every application in my library.After having this happen multiple times (and manually deleting the duplicate apps each time), i clicked a box that said not to upload those files detected by the library that were not part of it already; this was apparently a mistake because now they are missing from my iPhone and will not upload to it (despite being a part of the iTunes application library).Can anybody clear this up for me? Download error on iPhone 3G

Okay, i buy apps from both the itunes store on my computer and on the iphone 3g. When i purchase from the iPhone 3G i keep getting this silly error that the program has not completely downloaded and that i will need to go to my computer. The problem is, the program has downloaded in its entirety and is completely useable. Sometimes theres a ghost file icon still left, but its completely there and useable.When syncing back to the computer, it works as usual. By the way, this downloading error never occurred until the update.

All of my music is on a hard drive. Cant get the music to download when i sync. How do i ad my computer hard drive as an option to retrieve music and video. Windows XP Pro
