I bought an iPhone 4 locked to Orange UK why can't it be unlocked
I contacted Orange UK and they said that this iPhone4 is ready to be unlocked, but they can't unlock the phone because I am not the original contract owner. Why can't Apple unlock this phone, because the original owner doesn't care and has sold it? As far as I understand, I am one of at least 3 owners for this phone. I guess there could be more. I just wanted to have a normal iPhone, why can't Apple help on this issue? I have previously had many apple products, this is the first one I bought used adn just wanted to restore it to normal. Another thing is that 3rd party services can unlock it for 200$. What is that they do to unlock it? Why can't apple make a small comission for unlcoking iPhones instead. People find ways to cheat and ripoff people who doesn't deserve to pay extra for the phone they bought. Yup, I know what the basic decible strength means, but looking to interpret all of the other details. My goal is to find the ideal configuration for a cellular frequency booster/repeater directional antenna and am getting some odd readings so far. The fact that I am in a mountain rural area and have scarce access to two competing cellular towers miles away complicates the task. description:Some of my friends, that are already in mine contact list, in FB have different names.So after synchronization of contacts with FB I got two contact entries for one person. Ok. I linked them together to get one united contact.And then choose to use for this united contact name from contact which was in my contact list before sync.And that's all ok until next synchronization of contacts with FB, wich forces contact list to use name of "FB part" of united contact,instead of choosen by me name of "phone contact list part". So we see, that synchronization with FB dosn't looks at user setting which name to use.Any suggestions?p.s. ok, I understand, that I can turn off the sync, but it seems to me, that correcting of the error would be better....

I bought a secondhand iPhone 4S from a guy on Ebay here in the UK a couple of weeks ago and I'm well pleased with it. [1] It's obviously been well cared for and looked after and I have no qualms whatsoever about it being secondhand because the guy has obviously never abused it. However, in the auction description he said the following: "(Current OS version: iOS 6.0 (I didn't upgrade to latest as I read some issues with it - maybe okay now - I've not used this phone now for about 3 months as I've changed)" and also: "Note: I hate adding notes like this but need to make it clear that if purchased, please do not update the iOS version unless you are sure you are happy with your purchase. I will not address any issues caused by the OS upgrade (not saying there will be but it is currently functioning perfectly)" As far as the seller from Ebay is concerned, yes, I am very happy with my purchase and have no reason to return it to him [1]. The phone is now telling me that an update to iOS 6.0.1 is available, so my question to you is, is it now safe to do that upgrade? Or will it break something that is currently functioning perfectly? I got Bought an IMEI blocked 4s
Basically, i bought an second hand iphone 4s for £325, saw the ad on gumtree. anyway, met the guy who was selling it at a place where i knew there would be plenty of CCTV cameras to catch his number plate and the sale should anything go wrong. anyway, bought the phone, took it home and tried to activate it with my orange sim. the phone kept showing 1/2 bars of signal with 3G then saying please insert a compatible sim. so i phoned up apple and they told me that the phone was locked to o2 depite saying on the phone under about in settings "Orange UK 11.0". anyway, i phoned o2 and they told me that it was IMEI blocked. they told me that it was either lost/stolen. i imagine it was insurance job as they sold it in the correct box with matching imei number and serial number. I was really annoyed as you could imagine, tried contacting the seller, no response. I informed the police, giving the car reg and a description of the seller. they said they'd investigate etc. also reported the ad to gumtree. I was told my a family member, who works for the police that normally, the insurance company or the rightful owner would try to claim it as theirs and that i will lose both my £325 and my phone. What can i do? I read that apple replace imei blocked phones if they are faulty? but would the new one also be blocked? PLEASE HELP!!!!

Watned to give my iPhone to my sistser for christmas because my parents said they'd get me a different iPhone 4s if i gave her my used one, but i dont want to give her a faulty phone so here's the whole story. HELP!Purachased a iPhone 4s 16GB from Orange in the U.K in January. Sometimes the back light goes and my screen goes dark as if it's on the lowest brightness setting! But when I go into the brightness & wallpaper tab it's on full so i just bring it down and up and its fine again for a week or so then does it again randomly!My back screen cracked due to me dropping it (still worked not the end of the world)?Then my lock button became jammed from time to time (not sure if before or after i cracked the back, pretty sure was before?) and now fully stops working so I have to use the assist feature to lock my phone and take screenshots. - Anyway, I left it as it was because I cracked the back screen I didn't think Apple would help to repair it for a good price. (First Apple product so newbie to their apparent good customer service)So thennnn the other week my friend dropped it and shattered the front screen! couldnt use the camera and it started to literally fall off Went into Kingston Upon Thames Apple Store and was told straight up by a member of staff standing there regardless it would cost £130 to replace the whole phone. Obviously they thought I smashed the whole thing and wanted a new one, but actually I just want it replaced on account of the lock button and brightness issue which is still an issue and happened BEFORE the smash but I was too stupid to ask for help. So today I got the front and back screen replaced on the high street for £60. Half the Apple price but it works.BUT I didn't pay the guy to fix the lock button and brightness issue as I'm short on cash atm and think he'd mess it up some how...So I'm guessing the third-party fix voids my warranty? Fair enough.But if I take it back to Apple on account of I want them to repair my lock button and brightness issue, will they just replace the whole thing? I've booked a appointment for December 4th (nearest app -_-) and in the description it asks for when booking I just said the lock button and back screen is not working. Noise reduction canceling my own voice others can't hear me iPhone 5
My new iPhone 5, and the other I tried when asked for a replacement at the AppleStore today, consider MY OWN VOICE as "noise" if I move the phone away from my ear to let it cool off, or read the agenda out loud. It's "cancelling" my own voice, when my voice enters as much through the top mic as through the lower mic.It seems smart, but THE PROXIMITY SENSOR should be telling the phone that THAT WON'T WORK. The proximity sensor works, turning off/on the screen, so it's not that "the phone doesn't know I moved the phone away" (to stop the noise cancelling system). It just ignores the fact I'm doing it. The system works by reducing the sound that is entering through the top mic but NOT through the lower one, considering it "noise". The problem is when you speak directly to the screen, like reading from the screen, both mics get the same audio, your voice, and it's all considered "noise". For everyone who notices this, here's my technical description. I know Apple will silence until thousands or complaints or next version gets it fixed. I think it's an issue with the software, since the other unit I tried did the same. The Customer rep recommended me NOT to wait for a replacement without that issue, but gave me no solution, so it was like "keep it or return it. It's either that or nothing" (based on the scarcity of new phones) It seems the "replacement" units are older and even probably refurbished. The first one she brought me had the frame nicked and the protective film with hand-palm and finger prints on it. The second one was cleaner, and had the same mutting mic issue. So I'll return this unit next week and I'll wait until they stop speculating with us losing the first month before they say anything officially about the issues we all read about (and could really tell what it is if we had the right screw-driver). No need for a engineer degree to see what's causing it. I can't believe Apple's silence about the rattling noise and this. I'd like an official answer for this and the rattling noise (tap it next to the camera with one finger while on your ear).

Hello, For around 8 weeks my iPhone has beening having an intermittent issue with sending texts. description:I would send "message one" and the phone would say sent on my end with the confirmation sound,"message one" would not be received by the reciepient until I send a "message two". This problem is becoming more and more frequent, Not limited to specific number/carriers (happens with every person I SMS/iMessage. iBooks mixed epubpdf books fail to display in bookshelf iPhone 3G
Problem description: A mix of downloaded .pdf and .epub books sometime fail to display in iBooks bookshelf. The books are on the iPhone, but not all will display. The previously-searched item in the iBooks search box affects whether they display -- even though the search box is later cleared. Apparently the iBooks app is caching the search entry and erroneously maintaining a filtered set of books, even though the search box is cleared. I've only observed this with a mix of .pdf and .epub books. Epub books by themselves don't cause it. The .pdf book was part of podcast, which iBooks picked up. If anyone else experiences missing books from the iBooks bookshelf, I recommend: (1) First verify the books are in iTunes library under "Books"(2) In iTunes make sure devices->iPhone->books are set to sync your books(3) Re-sync(4) If book is not displayed in iBooks, search for it anyway. If it appears after searching, you may have encountered this bug.(5) Examine if any of your books are .pdf format, try temporarily removing those from your iPhone and see if the problem goes away. iPhone 4S heats up while charging and in use
My white iPhone 4S 16GB heats up while charging or at occasionally while in use. I think warm is not the right description because whenever its temp is high and I touch it, I can really say its hot. I don't know if this is normal but I'm concerned because of the problems it might cause. I know that the OS upgrade (iOS 5) results to fast battery drain, but I don't thinking heating up comes along with it. Since the upgrade, and after reading posts regarding ways to maximize the battery life, I've been very conscious about my iPhone's "attitudes".I just hope someone from Apple can "fix" or improve this because an iPhone is a not-so-cheap phone. :-)

Apple has determined that they dont want to follow the norm and correct description of a megabyte or gigabyte even tho this is not like fashion u cant change what megabyte or gigabyte is so i dont see the point in changing something that confuses the layman who generallu does not know what a byte or bit is.....but nevertheless Apple has chosen to confuse the layman..... when a customer asks for a quantity of something he doesnt expect to see a different figure and then be told sorry its just the way i do my math.....?? math should be the same worldwide.... and megabytes and gigabytes should be consistant around the world in their description as they are physically, for the benifit of the layman who knows nothing about this when he asks for a 16gb iphone.... he expects to see on his phone that the company that sold him the phone and has even in this case defined the standard by which it measures, that he should see that the phone reflects the capacity under which it was sold to him...... 16gb.... not 13.6, which is 2.4 gigbyte short of 16gb and even 2gb short of the standard by which apple measures by.....?????????? of course just to clarify the calcualtion you can alll read it here.... http://www.tuaw.com/2009/08/29/snow-leopard-the-new-one-gigabyte-now-slimmer-tha n-before and it is not like they have not had time to make sure the hardware follows this new measurement, no.... this was decided 3 years ago..... Apple math on the new gigabyte does not follow on the new iphone 4s..... it is supposed to be 16gb..... but the iphone 4s shows 13.6gb so if you take the fact that apple is refering to 1gb as 1000,000 kbytes then if you times 1024 by 16 to get the actual figure it is 16,000,384 but because apple have dropped the '24 in 1024 to get the figure apple uses we take away 384 from 16,000,384 leaving 16,000,000 then we divide that by 1024,000 which gives us 15,625,000so the actuall figure on the iphone 4s for a 16gb memory capacity by apples new 1gb math, should be 15.6gb SO APPLE WHERE HAS MY 2GB GONE....... Even by your own math APPLE this product fails to meet its own description under the trade descriptions act..... Your Customers have been ripped off by 2GB..... the iphone 4s has actually got 14gb in it not 16gb.... the stupid thing is that it doesnt matter how you want to calculate the megabyte or gigabyte in the end... what matters is that if you sell a phone that claims to have 16gb of memory then really i dont care about the .6 of a gb displaying all i care about is that my phone just says.... it has a capacity of 16gb and that i can use all 16gb..... how it is calculated i dont give any hoots let alone 2....
Should an iPhone 4s rattle
If you knock a little light in the area around the camera lens is heard a slight rattling sound, the closer the camera more clearly. According to Apple Support "should it be so." (after getting a description on the phone). I find it hard to imagine that an Apple product is meant to rattle as if something could be loose ...? Can it really be true that this rattling noise (also documented in other threads) is part of a flawless product?

I have these odd looking don't know if I would describe them as lines but it seems more of a textured look to just the top half of the screen of my 4s very noticeable on white surfaces and when tilting phone back and forth don't know how well I described this kind of hard to give an accurate description really anyone ever heard of this bottom half of screen looks fine by the way the phone is only a few days old thanks for any assistance

iPhone Lock Screen Brightness Disparity with Home Screen iPhone 4S
This has been touched on here: https://discussions.apple.com/message/9671754#9671754 And in my conversation today with AppleCare it was noted this was discussed in the forums, but the kind gentleman also said no solution was put forth. So I decided I would look into it. Here is my description and findings. Not long after I began to use my iPhone 4S at night (in a dark room) I noticed a very significant disparity between the lock screen (very bright) and the home screen (less bright). I had turned down the brightness as well as kept the "Auto-Brightness" switch to ON. I would click the Wake/Sleep button and the screen was much too bright. Then I would slide the "slide to unlock" switch and the screen would dim to what I expected. The best I can tell the Lock Screen ignores the"Auto-Brightness" switch. This is only obvious in the dark. Also, for some reason it seems to work when the slider is to the left of the "B" in the Brightness header. But if you move the slider to the right of the "B" like under the "ht" and have Auto-Brightness turned on, then put it to sleep, then wake it, you should notice the lock screen is much brigher than the home screen. Again, if you do this in dim light you might not notice it. But if you do it in the dark it's significant. Note that with the Auto-Brightness switch to OFF this problem doesn't happen. Does anyone else see this or is it just me (and a few others)? :-)

Taken from a thread concerning a buzz in a 3GS which matches my description: 'I've had my iPhone since October. In the last week, the earpiece has developed a tendency to buzz. This is not a GSM buzz or a baseband/amplifier buzz, but a tinny sound that is synchronous with relatively loud sounds coming from the earpiece. It sounds to me like the earpiece speaker is either loose, or there is something lodged near the speaker which is vibrating.To the extent that I can look inside the earpiece hole, I can't see anything lodged in there. Has anyone troubleshooted a problem like this?'

Some of my notifications on my iPhone have not been working correctly, as of the two most recent updates.Some of my apps have gotten updates in the app store with a description that says fixes push notifications. So I dont know where the issue lies, if its with my iPhone 4, push servers, or with the individual company.Ive thought about resetting the network settings on my phone but I dont know if thatll fix the issues ive been having. Ive done the hold/home button reset on the phone, turned off notifications for a few hours then turn them back on, turn off/on the options in the apps, and non of those have worked. No Shared Folder in iPhone 4 ; iPod. OS 4.3Hi, For some reason I cant seem to get the Shared folder under More on the iPod app via iPhone 4. Im trying to take advantage of the ability to use my iTunes library on my PC on my iPhone. I had followed the simple steps to enable Home Sharing via iPhone and iTunes but the folder simply wont show on my iPhone. Steps Ive taken, plus information as follows.Windows 7iTunes 10.2.1.1 (uninstall-ed, reinstall-ed)iPhone 4 Version 4.3(8F190)WiFi connection to my network is working (rebooted network, turned Windows firewall on/off) Started with Home Sharing not being turned on in either iPhone or iTunes. Turned it on in iTunes first via Advanced -> Turn On Home Sharing and entered my AppleID/password -> Create Home Share -> Done. Confrimed under Edit -> Pref that Share my local network is checked with Share entire library checked. No password required.Then on the iPhone via Settings -> iPod -> Home Sharing field Apple ID / Password entered.Library name: Jarrods LibrarySoft reset done on iPhone along with rebooting PC and network and regular power cycles on device.Turned Windows firewall off/on. Verizon iPhone cant send apple mail on roadrunner
After an exhaustive day talking with Verizon, Roadrunner and Apple support, I finally found a guy at Roadrunner that gave me the correct answer and made it work. Im sharing what I learned so you dont go through the agony that I did.I had previously transferred my mail account from my MacBook Pro using iTunes. I could send and receive mail over my home WiFi network but I could only receive (not send) over Verizons 3G.Here are the Mail settings that let me Send as well as Receive.Start by going to Settings/Mail, Contacts, CalendarsGo to Accounts.. account name doesnt matter.Tap on account name if it exists. create a new account if it doesnt.POP Account Information:Name: doesnt matter; use any nameAddress: Your Roadrunner email address... Yet another home button problem iPhone 4
So Ive been following the threads regarding iPhone 4 home button issues and it leads me to believe that this problem is somewhat wide-spread. I may at some point make an appointment to the Genius Bar to see about getting a replacement since its under warranty, but now Im not confident that even the replacement wont have the same issue.Based on my testing, when the iPhone 4 is not plugged in, I have an intermittent home button issue. Sometimes it takes 3 or 4 presses of the home button to actually register a click. Clicking twice to bring up the recently used applications is problematic and sometimes I end up clicking like 10-20 times.The best description of what exactly happens to me randomly is described here:http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=12621066�Interestingly enough, when the iPhone 4 is plugged in, it does not experience the problem -- which leads me to believe that it isnt necessarily hardware.I wonder if this manifested itself when I did the last firmware update, some time ago, to 4.2.1.Can anyone who has the same problem please chime in if its also happening when the iPhone is plugged in? Hi, I have a few questions about my AppleCare Protection Plan. I am interested in having the battery for my iPhone 3G either repaired or replaced with a new (I have been using it for almost 2 years now). I do believe this is covered am I correct?Can someone give me a brief description on how this process will be played out? I mean that by I would have to go to a local Apple Store, am I correct? When they take my phone to repair will all my apps and other things such as contact list be wiped out? iPhone iOS 4.2.1 custom SMS tones
Hey, all. I sent a feedback message to apple about this, bust I would like to post it here as well.A little back story;Ive used Apple for a very long time, and then, as soon as it came out, I got the iPhone 3G. It worked good, but was missing several key features (for the purpose of this post, Ill just stick with the missing custom text message tones), but I figured that that was just Apple, and that they will fix it. My contract ended and I got the iPhone 4. Loved it, but still missing that key feature with the SMS custom tones. So, I jailbroke the iPhone. The added features were amazing. I loved it, and just couldnt understand why Apple wouldnt add even half of these features to their programs. Everything was working fine, and then iOS 4.2.1 came out, and I looked up the description of the update does on the Apple website and it said you can assign custom SMS tones to contacts. So, that was enough for me. I un-jailbroke the iPhone and updated. Only to discover that you CANT create custom SMS tones!! Perhaps Im missing something on how to do it, but I doubt it. I sent this to Apple, but I doubt they will do anything about it, since they havent yet, after all this time. Any help?? iPhone 4 iOS 4

Iphone 3G-No sound Mic not recognized Ipod will not play
I have an iphone 3G that will not produce any sound. I have tried the plug/remove the headphones and resetting/restoring. Ive also thoroughly blown out the headphone jack with no change. Ive seen multiple posts on this issue, but my problem is slightly different. When I go to the ipod to play a song (with or without headphones), the song description comes up, the play button briefly turns to a pause, but then it kicks back out to the song list without playing. Similarly, voicemails will not even begin to play either.As for the microphone, when I go to voice memo app i get a No microphone available message.Everything else on the phone works fine.Any thoughts? Should I go into the case to see if something is physically blocking the headphone port from returning to default position on the inside? iphone 3G iOS 4

I have noticed a MAJOR decrease in battery life after I upgraded my iPhone 4 to the new IOS 4.1. I telephoned Apple Care this morning and the support agent told me this:4.1 has a build in that does NOT turn off your internet connection even WHILE IN SLEEP MODE. This is a new feature in 4.1 that was NOT in previous software versions. You experienced better battery life prior to 4.1 because your phone was NOT connected to the internet when it was in sleep mode (i.e. - not being used). The only way to keep your battery from being drained is to turn off your phone.There you have it!!! Note that in the upgrade description it stated battery improvements. Whatever. My wife and I have identical iPhones purchased at the same time - mine just upgraded to 4.0.2 and hers is still 3.1.3. She has no problem connecting to our secure (WEP) linksys router (WRT54GSV4), entering the key (as hex) and using wifi. Now, mine will seek but only intermittently find our wireless router (but none of the others of several routers in our vicinity). When it does occasionally find our router (perhaps it doesnt actually find it - only has it stored somewhere?), the key entered is consistently rejected as incorrect. When searching for the router by name it says it cant find it. All other wireless devises in our household have no problem with router, key and connection.1) Key entered correctly multiple times.2) Router has been reset multiple times.3) Router security/encryption has been disabled with the same results - cant find it.4) Router firmware is the most recent version5) Router broadcast frequencies and wireless G/B/Mixed reconfigured multiple times.6) iPhone was backed up and OS restored As New.7) iPhone Network Settings reset multiple times.8) iPhone cold reboot multiple times.9) Toggled 3G on and off multiple times (on the advise of Apple support) .10) After over a year of issue-free use, have now openly denigrated Apple products and support multiple times for wasting so much of my time and expecting me to pay for it. Dear Community,Ive been going through this forum and found some threads regarding the bluetooth and contact issues after upgrading to iOS 4 and Mercedes Command / media interface systems.I came across another issue, which really bugs me:After the upgrade, my playlists and artists take more than a minute to load, and, even worst, 3/4 of all lines displayed are just empty. This means a playlist is indicated but the description just stays empty. The same applies for artists and albums! Cannot download apps Passcode option gone and cannot delete apps iPhone
I just bought a brand new iPhone 4 after having an iPhone 3G for the past 2 years. After getting it home and restoring from a backup from my old 3G, several things have happened. I used to have a passcode on my old 3G, but I cannot find this option anywhere on the iPhone 4 (it should be under Settings, General but it is not). My only option is to use the auto-lock. I have no option to use a passcode.Issue No. 2 is that I cannot seem delete apps. I know that to delete an app you have to hold your finger on the app icon until it wiggles around and an x appears on it, but no matter how long I hold the icon, they never wiggle and no x appears. The icon just turns darker.Issue No. 3 - This one is tough to explain, but I cannot download or buy any apps from the App Store. When selecting an app to download, the button that would normally be in the upper right-hand corner of the apps page that either says Purchase or Buy or whatever it says that allows you to download the app onto your phone is not there. It is like that button never existed. I essentially get the app description, pics of the app, and reviews, but I cannot download any app because it doesnt give me an option to do so.Does anyone have any idea what is wrong with my phone? I knew I shouldnt have Upgraded iphone 3g down and cant restore
As my description says, now my iphone officially has no OS! A shinny paper weight!!! Thanks to stupid Job and encouraging all to update!!! I get the prompt to update/ upgrade to os4 every time I open itunes...so... Well, I did it. Then, the phone got stuck around 70%-80 of the process bar with the silver apple. I left it there a good 5-6 hrs! Still didnt move a pixel!!! So obvious something went wrong. I turned it off and on to restore but with updates (tried it again) same problems. Always stops at 70-80% Of course, I dont want to (I SHOULDNT have to leave my phone overnight) specially because it gets so warm! I dont want to damage it. I guess Apple does! They want all of us to change phones period not OS.I got sick of this ****! and I try to restore from older 3.1.3, 3.1.2 firmwares, and now they get the same problem. I remember very clearly, it didnt take 5-6 + hrs to restore my phone! Usually in an hour Im uploading music and videos, etc. Why hasnt apple (or I should say JOBS) havent recognized this and done anything about it! I mean google update iOS 4 and you will find most, if not all the links go to problems in updating! (titles like the woes of updating os4, updating to ios4 nightmare, how to downgrade to 3.X...etc) Well, sadly now Im phoneless... and that is not cool! Why are we paying them so much for again???If any one has a miracle please let me know how to get an OS in my phone... anything will do. iOS 3, 4... Android, linux... even windows... SENA leather case with hard shell for iPhone 3G
I use a SENA leather case for my iPhone and I am considering a low-profile hard shell case such as the SwitchEasy Nude.Two questions: firstly given that these types of case do not extend as far as the dock connector is it likely to make any difference in protecting the area around the dock connector against cracks, and secondly will the iPhone with a SwitchEasy Nude fitted (quoted as having a thickness of 0.8mm) still fit inside the SENA leather case?Another suggestions much appreciated, however I do not want to use a chunky case of any description thanks!Many thanks HP 550 Windows 7
Grey strip and bottom of home screen iPhone 3G
A grey strip has appeared at the bottom of my screen and covers the dock. There is no response when I touch the screen in this area, but if I access any of my applications or web pages from my screens, the whole screen is usable. When I press the home button to exit the app / web page, the grey strip reappears. The strip looks like (for want of a better description) the foil on an electric razor. Any ideas anyone? I have tried switching the phone off and back on, as well as a soft restore. I am now going to try a full restore thru itunes. Iphone 3G iPhone OS 3.1.3
System graphics lack gradient iPhone 3G
There is a marked lack of gradient on system graphics and highlights, which manifests as solid tones and dithering. Other graphics (such as app icons) and antialiasing are not affected.I currently have no way to show how it looks on the device, such a photo, as screenshots do not replicate the issue when viewed on external devices.
