My wife very recently had her glass screen replaced after a nasty crack. Everything was fine for the first 24 hours or so; now the phone continues to randomly shut off. The screen was replaced (for free!) at an Apple Store Genius Bar, not a random cell phone store. Shes performed a couple hard resets, but no luck. At this point Im thinking she should take it back in and have it troubleshot by them, however her time is precious (busy business professional!) so I was curious if anyone on the boards had any ideas before making another appointment...Any input is much appreciated!! Thanks!! 20" iMac G5 Mac OS X (10.5.8) 2GB 2.66gHz Intel Core Duo, iPhone 3G
a crack has appeared on the top of and around the side on my iphone near the power button between the screen and the case, the main problem is that if any pressure is applied in that area my screen freaks out, which often leads to the iphone turning itself and taking ages to restart. the crack is becoming bigger and whatever is going on with the screen is becoming worse im desperate for help i wanted to know if this has happend to anyone else, and what i can do about it, or if i should just get a new phone
My phone was dropped and it cracked a slight bit in the top left hand corner. I have until the 2nd of Sept for my one month warranty to be up (I think) since I just bought the iPhone 4 not too long ago. My question is will apple fix that little crack for free, lesser price or do I need to pay a big chunk of money? Thanks.
Hi, i have an iPhone 3G 16gb that i want to sell, but because of a small 5mm long hairline crack in the back of the phone most recycling sites online will only offer me the minimum amount for it… stupid really because the rest of the phone is perfect!!Does anyone know where i can get official iPhone 3G parts/spares so i can replace the back and sell it for the full amount again? Im based in the UK, so any online stores with international shipping would be great! thanks!Jay 17"PowerBook Pro & iMac Mac OS X (10.6.4) fast but not fast enough!
I received and iPhone 3G in December 2008. So far it has worked very well. Recently I discovered a hairline crack in the bottom of the casing near the USB plugin. I have a black casing, which seems to be the one with which people do not have trouble with. The crack is about 3/4 of an inch long and is perpendicular to the base of the phone. Sometime after I discovered the crack I began to hear an unusual noise coming from my phone. It sounds like a very quiet buzzing noise. The phone makes the noise somewhat randomly. I have yet to find anything that the noise correlates with. So far the phone only makes this noise when it is on. I do not having to be using the phone to hear the noise though. I will often last for about 5-15 seconds and then go away. The noise can return in under a minute or not come back for several hours. When I am walking around I cannot hear it because it is so quiet. If I were to talk with a person in a would room in a normal voice I would not be able to hear the noise. It sounds like the noise is coming from the hairline crack. Is there a warranty that covers the casing of my phone? Is there any reason for the sound and can I do something about it? Macbook Pro iPhone OS 3.1.3
My plastic case on my iPhone 3G has started to develop a crack running from the middle of the charger slot up the phone. Now before anyone says I havent dropped it or used an unofficial charger.Only problem is that the phone is now out of warranty. What are my options? Windows Windows XP
Hi All,I had my phone replaced about 2 months ago as I had a few issues with it like a crack in the back of it. Apple were really good as I had a carepack the did a straight replacement of the phone so I was happy.Since then, I have the following issues with the phone:1. it freezes when trying to load things like web pages, mail, messages etc (it starts to load a web page, then freezes for 20 seconds before continuing.2. I reset it the other day, and it put itself into recovery mode which left me without a phone for most of the day3. It keeps removing all of my music. I have it set in iTunes to manaully manage the music, but when Ive just gone in to listen to some music at work, it says that I have no music available, but I only have 1.5gb of space left on my phone. So its like its there, but hidden.4. Ive found that this phone is a lot slower than the old one, and gets really hot when Im playing games or its on charge, which the old one didnt.Should I take it back to Apple and ask them to have another look at it?ThanksPaul iPhone 3G iOS 4
I have the iphone 3G running the latest software and just bought TomTom app. However, much to my dismay, I cannot get a gps signal. Ive tried anything I can find on discussion boards - resetting network, unplugging sim, turning location services off and on, wi-fi off and on and my phone has spent alot of time outside trying to pick up a signal with no luck. I just havent restored the phone because it seems like no ones had luck with that anyway. When I have wi-fi on, location services on, Maps app will find my location. Without wi-fi, however, its pretty off base and has been for sometime. It always used to be 100% accurate. My screen was professionally replaced due to a crack; am wondering if this is it?My husband has the 8 GB 3G and the app works splendidly on his phone. Any help would be much appreciated cuz Im lost without my TomTom (the real TomTom was stolen out of the car thus this purchase ) iMac G4 iPhone OS 3.1.3
Hey all,My fiances iPhone screen has been cracked for sometime and I was considering replacing it. I saw tutorials all over the web on how to do it and its not in warranty so voiding the warranty isnt an issue. EBay has several kits for fairly cheap I just dont know which to get. Is there a way to tell if I need the glass, glass and digitizer, or glass digitizer and LCD? Her screen still displays and the touch still works it just has a spiderweb crack from when she dropped it. Thanks! iPhone 3G iPhone OS 3.1.3
I have two cracks on the back of my iPhone casing one at the bottom from the middle of the dock slot and then one by the on/off button and the button has dropped so its not as firm anymore and the crack is making it difficult to turn the phone on/off and lock the screen.Could I get it replaced in my local Apple store and if so how much would it cost and how long would it take to do? iPhone OS 3.1.3
Hi,Just noticed a crack on the back of my 3G.Thought I would ask here before going to the Apple store. Will Apple replace the back plate? I sent this email to apple-----Hello there. Today has been a very frustrating day with my iphone 3g. I purchased this phone right when the 3g came out. It is pretty old and there is no way i could have a warranty on it (to my knowledge). And even if i had the warranty, i dropped my phone and had to replace the screen myself because your replacement policy is basically buy a new phone. It isnt a replacement policy at all. Anyway, I replaced the screen. While doing so and inspecting the inside of the phone, i noticed a very small crack on the ribbon cable on the bottom left of the phone, near where the contacts are for the home button. This crack, although small, is large enough to significantly reduce the current because it goes into the wires. the vibrate function worked with the display removed. Upon installing the display, I realized that it must be ever so slightly larger because it makes the disconnect in the ribbon cable significant enough to break the circuit. My vibrate function is gone with the display mounted, and my speaker function is gone as well for some reason (not sure what the problem is there, and i dont really care, i just need an indicator when im getting a call.) Anyway, the vibrate function had issues before i replaced the screen, but since it worked for the most part, I assumed it was cpu and OS type lag. So this technically wasnt an accident, because vibrate has worked intermitantly for the last year, and now it doesnt work altogether. Would this have been covered under a warranty plan? Is there any way i could get it repaired? Any idea why the speakers dont work also? Any help would be appreciated.I doubt they will respond, but if anyone here knows, i will be super happy. Windows 7

I noticed the other day that my 19th month old iPhone 3G has small hairline cracks in the corners of the dock socket. I googled for cracks and looked online in o2 and these apple forums and there seems to be a wide spread issue. Can anyone confirm if Apple are aware of the issues as I believe that Apple should replace it if they know about this.I know they replace iPhones for this reason if they are within the first 12 months. What about us folk who have the issue out of the 12 months?Ive owned Nokias for years and never ever had a crack form in the case. Thanks 21.5" iMac - 3.06 GHZ - 4GB RAM - Backpack iMac Shelf - 320GB WD Passport Drive Mac OS X (10.6.3)
I have the black iPhone 3G since January 2009 and already had it replaced two times: first time because of a dead GSM module and the second time because of a faulty battery that lasted only half a day in stand-by with BT, 3G, WiFi and GPS turned off. My problem now is that I have a small crack in the upper right corner near the headphone socket that appeared out of a sudden. I didnt drop the phone whatsoever. Since I live in Germany and bought the iPhone here, I brought it to T-Mobile again and hoped to get a new one, but dat repar who is responsible for checking iPhones here in Germany claims that I caused the damage which simply isnt true. T-Mobile also claims that even if it wasnt my fault, I only have one year reseller warranty because Apples warranty is valid for one year too. This is also BS because in Germany, reseller warranty lasts for two years no matter what the manufacturer offers. Anyways, do you guys have an idea what I could do? A quick Google search reveals that the cracks are a common problem. I think you can imagine how annoyed I am because the iPhone contracts are quite expensive and I already had to have mine replace twice (which took between two and three weeks each time). I always handled the phone with care and am totally sure that the damage isnt caused by me. Mac OS X (10.6.2)
I have a crack in the screen after only having it for a couple of days. Is there any way of getting this fixed without having to oay ridiculous amounts of money? 3g
I have had an iphone for just over a year and this is my third one. Apple replaced the first two for a crack on the back case, advising it to be a flaw in the case. Now I have a touch screen issue, but I would not call it a dead spot like Apple states. Apple also said it was a hardware issue. The issue is that the screen work with some apps but not on the home screen or the keypad. When I stated having this issue I looked up and saw that this is more common then Apple let on. I was happy with the iphone till this happened and I was told to just buy a new iphone. I am extremely dissatisfied with the support and customer service Apple has displayed on what clearly is a defect. Toyota has taking care of their customers. I would like to here from others in my situation. I am sure that Apple will remove this post so I may be starting a new Facebook group for this topic. hp iPhone OS 3.1.3
Hello, recently my iPhone has been falling apart! There are about 30-50 dust pieces underneath my iPhone screen. Not only that but I am more worried that the bezel and and screen are starting to some off the iPhone itself! Eventually a crack from the dock port up to the symbols and logos appeared cracking the plastic without any accidental damage, just appeared one day. So far it has been just been 9 months since Ive gotten it. Is it possible for me to go to an Apple Retail Store and ask for a swap? When I first bought the device Wireless Wave told me if any damage or defect came up theyd replace it with a 3G S from an apple retailer store. I am only curious thought if the dust, bezel, and crack count. Thanks in advance! iPhone 3G 8GB 3.1.3 iPhone OS 3.1.3 Macbook Aluminum 13.3"

Hi folks,My iPhone 3G is out of warranty (I think), as I purchased it on the release day in June 2008.Under completely normal use it has developed a very noticeable & worrying crack on the back and the headphone socket doesnt really work any more.As far as Im concerned, a phone that costs circa £400 shouldt break when its only 18/19 months old - especially when Ive got a couple of crappy old Nokias from circa 2000 that STILL WORK PERFECTLY.Ive read on a couple of forums that some folks are managing to get out of warranty replacements with Apple. Whats the likelihood of this happening with me, all things considered? Would I completely be wasting my time by booking a genius bar appointment? I have a 3g i phone and I just noticed a crack from the dock connector up the back of the phone. I seen it for the first time last week when the crack was small, now it has tripled in size. Anyone else having this problem? Also I have never dropped this phone. iphone 3g iPhone OS 3.1.2
This problem is seriously getting on my nerves. After a few minutes of being on my iPhone 3G (a refurbished one, the original one had a crack develop) it will become way too sensitive to any touch, or even sensitive to a presence of a hand around it. It has made it impossible to do just about anything. The best way I can describe it is an iphone freakout. I got my phone in October of 2008, so my 1 year warranty is up, but my 2 year contract isnt. If I take my phone to the Apple store, can they fix it for free or will I have to pay?PLEASE WATCH THE VIDEO OF MY PROBLEM (words cant describe the crazy things it is doing) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=idcAXxb8_k8 17in Macbook Pro Mac OS X (10.6.2)
HiAfter 13 months, my wi-fi has just stopped working. It will no longer connect to wi-fi networks or the signal is very weak (1 bar) and it will not load any websites, download mail etc.I have tried other connections (in case it was an issue with my router) but they all no longer work. It isnt a setting issue - I understand WEP, WAP etc and how to setup wireless.I havent dropped my iPhone or anything. Also, my iPhone started getting a hairline crack on the back cover from the silent switch and also near the dock port within 2 months of using it. Would the wi-fi issue be related?Anyway, it is now just out of 12 month warranty.... what are my options? ***** big time because I love using wi-fi to buy apps from App Store. Thanks, Ryan.PS - my bluetooth still works.Message was edited by: rturner2 iPhone 3G iPhone OS 3.1.2
I noticed about a week ago that my iPhone 3G (which is now over a year old, and so I guess out of warranty) has a crack on the back next to the dock connector. Worse, its growing. Is this a common fault? Maybe a design fault? Will Apple repair it for free or will they want a small fortune for it? And can it be repaired quickly? Thanks all. Shuttle Windows 7
Hi all, a few months back i dropped my Iphone 3G which caused the LCD to crack, (digitizer was fine). Just recently all of a sudden my sleep/wake button stopped working. Hi all,Iv completly messed up my iphone 3g, there is a crack on the screen and scratches and dints everywhere. Also the speaker on the bottom hardly makes any noise beacuse I submerged it.Now I know that by paying something like £150 I can get a refurbished model but I want to know if I can pay to get a 3GS instead of a 3G.Any ideas???Thanks iPhone OS 3.1.2
After 17 months of constant connecting and disconnecting of the USB cable my 3G has developed cracks on either side of the connector along the back plate. The crack caused a piece to come off around one speaker grille. Now Im trying to find a shop to do the repair since APPLE does not repair the units. AT&T is willing to upgrade me but Im not sure Im ready to add 2 more yrs to my 4 four lines. Their service is not the best in the clearwater, fl area. Many calls get dropped. I originally got my iPhone 3G last December 2008. It was working fine, though I noticed that after a couple of months, that it had a hairline crack near the headphone jack. Phone was still working, but I decided to bring it to the Apple Store here in Singapore (Singtel) last November 9, 2009. They replaced the phone right away with the note Hairline crack on the receipt. After two weeks, I had a problem where I couldnt hear the person on the other line unless I used the headphones or put it on speaker mode. When you dont have the headphones plugged in and try to change the ringer volume, the phone will just display Ringer (Headphones). I tried plugging & unplugging the headphones, and even restoring, resetting, and it was still not working. One trick I found was that if I went to the Settings > Sound option, then try to change the volume of the ringer, it would work for a couple of calls where I can make a call without going on speaker mode or using my headphones. This was getting too troublesome. I went to the Apple Store (Singtel) again today, December 5, 2009, and they replaced the phone. Note on the receipt this time was: Headphone Mode. Fine by me, as long as I dont have to come back again. I went back home, trusting that the replacement would be good. Guess what? Now I have a new problem! I can only make calls using the headphones! This time, I can make calls and hear perfectly, but the person in the other line cant hear me. Voice memo does not recognize any voice inputs. I have tried resetting, restoring, to no avail. Anyone having this problem? Any suggestions on what else to do? My patience is running out. Apple, dont disappoint me. I dont want workarounds or a badly refurbished product. I just want a working phone. iPhone 3G iPhone OS 3.1.2
my question is will apple replace my cover due to hairline crack at the base of the phone where you plug the charger in? i have recently jail broken and unlocked my phone to use it with another service provider due to at&t high prices.. i still have 3 months left with apples warranty!!! power book g4 Mac OS X (10.4.11)
I absolutely love my iPhone. I was actually getting ready to dump my PCs and make the full switch to Mac until I pulled my iPhone out of my pocket one day and discovered a crack in the display. I didnt drop it and the screen wasnt shattered. There was just a small crack that was starting to branch out. Maybe 5% of the screen. I took my phone and Apple care extended service to the genius bar and they said it was going to cost me 200 bucks to fix the display. The apple car plan wouldnt cover it. Since then, Ive been told my many folks that Apple admits that every iPhone will break a display at least once. Theyve also suggested going to a different Apple store, except there isnt another one for 150 miles. I think I spent $300 for the phone and service plan six months ago, plus the two year contract, so Im not going to spend another dime and I think Im just going to stick with my admittedly faulty PC.So, is the applecare extended service transferable? Can I sell it to some other poor sap since it was of no use to me. Also, will Apple buy back an iPhone with a broken screen? Ive already gone back to my old phone, but it would be great if I could get 50 bucks out of this deal.I was thinking ebay or a pawn shop, but dont you have to buy it from AT&T or directly from Apple? iPhone 3G iPhone OS 3.1.2
A couple weeks ago a tiny hairline fracture crack started forming @ the bottom right of my iphone.. I did not drop it, I have no idea how it got there to be honest. I didnt take it in to Apple because I figured they would say its my fault. Well, now I just noticed @ the bottom of the crack there is a little flickering red dot. What is this???? 3g iPhone OS 3.1.2
Hey guys, the wife dropped her 3g last night and there is a crack running from the left to the right. The display behind it still looks perfect, but the unlock finger swipe isnt working, and the power down swipe will only work until your finger hits the crack (runs left to right, about an inch down, and moves to the top right). Im 99% sure this is just a glass issue since the picture is fine, but can someone else verify this. Ive ordered just the glass, then got to thinking about the LCD. 3G iPhone OS 3.0.1
Hi to all,i wouldlike to share with you some problems regarding iPhone 3G, i am a power user of my mobile and in here we got legislation for 2 years warranty. My iphone as some scratches on the back and a tiny crack on the charge port because i am using the dock that is way to tight and made it, so i got some usage marks wich are normal for a 14 month iPhone used daily. Two days ago my HOME putton stoped working for no reason, so if i got say a SMS and needed to make a call i need to shutdown and power up againSo today i took my iPhone to my service provider, for a repair… as they looked they saied give us 250USD (more or less in euros) and we repair it or replace it cause it has usage marks… my iPhone in the front (display/home button) is in pristine shape, no scratches nothing… i said the problem here is the home button not usage (cosmetic) marks. So now the funny part is, Apple did a deal with the operators, and they say what they want, since Apple covers the 1st year and the Operator the second Year they pull every ******** from the books to make you pay for a new iPhone. Worst is that no Apple service is here to help you, or to give a second opinion.Ive been a Mac user for over 15 years and had 2 issues that were solved the right way, i do not know or care about the deals Apple does or doesnt do… but u cant the be the police, the judge and the jury and let an operator decide based on their bank account and furthermore stating it is Apple who states that cosmetic and hardware failure it is the same thing.I am not settling for a situation where i get robbed twice and intend on filling law suits if needed cause this is no way to say you care for a customer. If i didnt care for my iPhone ok i would have to pay, no problems on that, but being robbed cause they have all the tools to decide and judge… no wayShame on you Apple this time you did very very wrongThis warranty does not apply: (a) to consumable parts, such as batteries, unless damage hasoccurred due to a defect in materials or workmanship; (b) to cosmetic damage, including but notlimited to scratches, dents, and broken plastic on ports iPhone 3G iPhone OS 3.1.2 16 G
Recently, my Iphones camera has stopped working. When you start the camera up it has the 6 slices and then it opens up to the screen where you see the stuff you want to take a picture of. Mine stays on the 6 slices. I called Apple and did the reset that is supposed to fix 99% of all problems but it didnt work. The guy on the phone told me to take it into the store. I have put off this trip because I have not needed my camera. Now, I have recently dropped and cracked the screen after only having it for a little over a year :. What i was wondering, is if there was any hope of getting my Iphone replaced because of the camera being broken, is it all lost because of the crack? Will apple try to blame the drop that caused the crack also on why the camera doesnt work? Pc Windows XP
Dear community!first i want to say, im not really a crack in computer stuff and espacally when its in englisch So, please answer in simple, easy words.. 1. my phone does not ring when i get a call... alarms do work... all settings are loud... whats wrong?2. how can i send mms? i have 3.1.2 and i read on apple.com, that it is possible to write mms with the iPhone 3G... Thanks in advance for taking a look at this issue.Id like to think I know my way around the iPhone/apple products in general VERY well, but I cannot crack this one.I am using an 8gb iPhone 3G that I bought about 10 months ago. Running a fresh default factory settings restore of 3.1.2 firmware.I do NOT get any GPS. I have full 3G coverage standing outside, clear view of the sky, and all of that...and it still insists on only using triangulation.I had the same exact model iPhone on the same firmware in my other hand, and that one was picking up perfectly accurate GPS of the position.Ive tried the bunch of solutions out there -Turning off location services, restarting, turning back on...-turning off 3g. opening maps and trying to find my location, then restart 3g...None of that works. Which makes me think its a hardware problem. Like I said, its a fresh Restore and still the issue exists. Is it possible that something could be wrong with the hardware? If thats the case, I didnt buy an extended warranty or apple care or whatever it is. So now Im wondering what would they do at the apple store? Will they replace it at all, or would I have to buy a brand new iPhone for whatever retail is now w/o contract, $399 or something (since I already have a contract)This is quite the dilemma, so I appreciate all the help you guys might be able to provide! iPhone 3G iPhone OS 3.1.2
Hey guys,I purchased an iPhone 3G last summer (August 2008) and recently discovered a crack in the back cover. It extends from the charger port upwards (its about 2 cm). What should I do? It is no longer under warranty so taking it to Genius Bar would not be helpful. Is it a lost cause? Thanks
Hey everyone...Ive had a 16GB iPhone 3G since they were released in Summer 2008. It was replaced once as the volume switch broke but other than that its been fine, until now. I first noticed it when apps started running really slow and when I couldnt scroll through my iPod. This kept happening more and more and I found I was rebooting it a few times a day. Last night my iPod completely went and wouldnt open -I had to re-sync it with iTunes just to be able to open it again. Its not like Ive on the brink of having no hard drive space either -Ive got about 500MB left. Ive also noticed a 1 inch crack going up the back from where the cable plugs in. I know its going to be out of the 12 month warranty but Ive been paying that 02 insurance since I got it. Im wondering whether I should try to get it sorted or just wait it out until my 18 month contract is up in January, i.e. see what apple can do? See if insurance can cover/replace it?Can you please advise me. Surely its not true that they are sold out of 16GB models and that people are getting 8GB replacements? Thanks in advance guys, appreciate it Mac OS X (10.6.1) MacBook Pro - Core 2 Duo 2.66GHz

Has anyone had success getting their phone to stop saying this error? This issue occurred while it was sitting on my desk charging. Here is what Ive done so far..-Went to ATT store and got a new sim card and had it activated to my account. No luck-Took phone to Apple store they tried doing a restore. No luck. Apple wont replace my iPhone cause it has a crack in the screen. The screen has been cracked since the first week I got the phone. It was in The case to own according to the Apple store employee that sold me the phone. I believe it was an incase hard thick plastic shell basically. Ive had it 6 months working just fine with the crack. Ive basically been told Im up the creek. Anyone have any suggestions? Maybe an email address at apple I could utilize? I really did not like the service I got at the Apple store, not because I did not like the answer I was given, but rather the fact that the genius was laughing about my situation and had a smirk on his face and seemed amused by my situation, which also ended up with him wiping my contacts and info on my phone out. I had told the apple store employee that I did not have a back up at my house due to the fact I just reloaded computer. He said it would be no problem. Any suggestions? iphone iPhone OS 3.0.1
So I was on the treadmill last week and I was using my iPhone for music. Well I started to get tired and was slowing down and I started moving to the back of the belt on the treadmill. My earphones got stretched and tugged my phone some and I was reaching up to secure it and I accidentally hit the cord and pulled my phone down. It fell between my feet and flew off the treadmill hitting the ground. I had a crack from the middle of the screen going diagonal to the right corner. Well today all of the sudden theres a black horizontal line that is literally growing everytime I move my phone quickly. Is any of this covered? Am I going to have to either, get a new iPhone? or can it be replaced? Thanks for all your feedback in advance. I hope to get some responses!

That is a crack, and its not noticeable at all so I could care less.My real issue is the huge blobs of gray shown on the top left and bottom right corners. They take up lots of space, and cover up keys. Im sure you can all guess that I dropped my phone, and the lines appeared and began growing rapidly. So would replacing the LCD solve this problem? iPhone 3G iPhone OS 3.0
Hello CommunityI recently noticed that my iPhone 3G, black, is cracked at the back. The crack begins right over the Dock-Connector and directs towards the Apple Logo.I noticed the crack a long time ago, but I thought it would not grow up to 6mm. However, it did. I can say, that the iPhone has never been dropped or else. In addition, a case protects it from scratches etc.As I do not get any support here in India for my iPhone, and the Vodafone webpage under Support links to the Apple Support, I am helpless. In addition, calling vodafone was not effective since I dont speak Hindi or else and they dont speak english. What can I do, to preserve my iPhone from breaking into pieces? My waranty expires on the 20th of September and I therefore need help quickly...Regards,CS2011Message was edited by: CS2011 iPhone 3G 16GB black iPhone OS 3.0.1 crack on the back, no support in India
I have a 3G phone, and the back black plastic case is starting to crack. Not bad at all, just about an inch up from where you plug it in. Still works fine. But my ? is. Im thinking about replacing the back/battery. And since I use my phone for internet/email purposes a lot, I wear the battery out really fast. Usually before the end of the work day. Is there an upgraded battery I can buy that would last a little longer? Or would just a new battery help my runtime. Thanks Powerbook, iPhone 3G Mac OS X (10.5.7)
