I too have had the "flickering/flashing" screen problem...I received my first iphone 4 on release day (6/24); had no display issues until 3 days later, on 6/27. First occurred while on call in car; phone continued to work but display was black; had to do the two-button "hard restart" method to reboot phone. I was away on vacation for a week (not near an Apple Store), and phone continued to have this issue at least once/day. It could be on any screen or app...had it occur on calendar, a game, the home screen, etc. It would begin flashing ~8 times, then go to a "lit up black" (not off but slightly and evenly lit up black). Sometimes it would be 75% black, w/ a whiter "band" across the top 25% of the display.I discovered that sometimes if I quickly hit the button on top while it was still flashing, I could "save it."I have videoed this (using my 3GS phone...now my wife's) a few times, and it also did it at the Genius Bar at my local Apple Store last Friday (7/9) when I returned it. They saw it in-person, and watched one of my videos, and promptly gave me a replacement phone. However, the NEXT day, 7/10, my replacement iphone 4 has started to do a similar thing...no "flashing/flickering", just goes to the "lighter black" screen. First occurred when trying to open the calendar. I contacted Tech support and spoke to someone at Apple for ~1 hour, who said there have been NO reported display issues from others, and thought it perhaps was due to a corrupt "Restore from backup" file. She suggested that I do a regular restore (not from backup), but I have hesitated to do so yet, instead looking/waiting to see if others have had this issue, as I don't want to lose contact, texting & calendar info. She also said it was not good to perform the "hard restart" (two button) function very much... I eventually have tried the "slide to power off" across the top of the black screen, and phone turned off and could restart with just the single (upper) button. So the phone is ON...just display isn't...I am an AVID iphone user (have had the 2G, 3GS and now 4 model) for 2 1/2 years, and this won't make me "switch"...I just want it FIXED..!
Recently got this phone for my wife , I pluged it in ITunes and loaded it everything worked fine , then she change her mind ., she want another android !! so I reset the phone [ iphone 4 ] Rogers and a few days later i plug it in my laptop Itunes and it's giving me activation error , try Shutting it off and back on , Can i Master reset the phone again even if i can't go into setting ?? pls help
Hi, I am hoping someone can help me as my wife's iphone completely froze up after synching with the latest version of iTunes. In the end, the only thing she could do was re-set the iphone, thereby of course losing everything. Reconnecting to her laptop restored music and most apps, it seems she has to re-download the other apps again direct to the phone. Now the problem is images. There is an ipod cache directory on the laptop Pictures directory, and in this are folders labelled F00, F01 etc.. and a "Photo Database" file. In each of the Fnn directories is a series of files, called Txxx.ithmb, each of which is about 1,500KB. Doing a backup from the laptop indicates there are about 2900 files overall.Altogether there is about 3GB in this folder, so it looks to be a lot of space. Pointing iTunes to the directory containing all this and synching, still results in zero images being found. She went to the local Apple store for help, to be told these are not the images, but then elsewhere I have read that these are the full files, and this proprietary format contains three different resolution images. If the images taken on the iphone are not here, where are they? Finally, how on earth do we convince iTunes to recognize these files and imporrt them again? Sorry to be thick but losing everything thanks to the latest iTunes was rather catastrophic! Any help/ideas/suggestions greatfully received... The photo files were a mix of photos taken on the iphone and images previously uploaded from the laptop. Cheers Chipontheroad
My wife has my old iphone 3GS. When I try to update the apps on it, the phone tries to use my old Apple ID rather thatn her new one. The settings for the App Store are for her ID. Please assist.
wife is getting a new iphone 5 from her job on Verizon. Can we migrate her data, apps, etc from her current iphone 4 on AT&T?Her IT dept is going to be setting her up; is there anything specific they should do/know?
Hi there, Im scott, I dont own an iphone so know nothing whatsoever about them. this is our issue pls help : My sister purchased an iphone 4 from a woman at her work. Her husband upgraded to iphone 5 so sold his old one to my sister. My sister currently has a blackberry on contract to virgin media here in England. She took her BB along with her new iphhone to a local phone shop They cut her simcard down to size and put it into the iphone. When we turned it on we got this message 'only compatible sim cards from a support carrier....... ' I called our current contract to exdplain what we were intending to do and swap settings from a blackberry to her new iphone... they said we needed to contact the original service provider... here lies our issue. My sister works as a nurse.. she called her collgue to explain all this and ask what network he was on. She doesnot kno and her husband isnt home for another cpl weeks he is military. My sister doesnt want to wait a few weeks to use her new phone. Is there anyway to unlock and activate this phone giving all the detials of the phone and confirmation from his wife regarding the new user ? Ive read on the internet about jailbraking and all that nonsense.. but i dont want to damage the phone.. It isnt stolen isnt lost sureley i dont have to 'hack' into a perfectly legitimate phone to use do i? My sister simply wants it to work with her contracted sim .. with the benifits and features iphone offers. Please can someone help... model a1332
I connected my wife's iphone 5 to her computer to back it up, sync it and and check for updates. An error message came up and put the phone into recovery mode. Now we cannot get it out of recovery mode. We do not want to restore it as there are numerous photos that would be lost.Any ideas?
This one has me stumped...My wife iphone 5 has an extreme battery drain issue, but it only happens at her workplace. If she turns off wifi and cell data the battery drain still happens, but if she puts it in airplane mode the battery doesn't drain. If she is at home, she has no problems at all with all connections turned on. Any ideas?
My wife and I bought two iPhones 3 yrs ago.. The accounts where seperate while dating or at purchase. Her cousin (an IT Guru) Managed I think to somehow link up our 2 iTunes together. Meaning we She had apps of mine on her phone and I have apps of hers on my phone and we had to know each other's passwords to update our phones. 3 years later we are finding out that you were getting updates from each other's iCloud accounts and screwing up settting etc. how do I separate the two accounts thank you..
I have two iPhones, one for myself and one for my wife. My wife's phone was having problems so Apple kindly provided me with a new phone. When I got it home and tried to install the backup, iTunes wouldn't let me. It said the operating system wasn't up to date and I would have to set it up as a new phone. I did this and now my wife's new phone seems to think it is my phone and I don't see any way of installing the backup of her previous phone. Any ideas?
My wife has a iphone 4s 16 GB phone that she has had for about 16 months. It is out of warrantee now and go figure now it is having issues with the screen. On a daily basis, the screen shows strange colored lines. But they aren't straight across the screen, they seem to follow borders between different colors, like a contour line. And sometimes the entire image on the screen starts to jitter up and down. These can be temporarily fixed by pressing on the display, typically near the earpiece. I've opened it up and pressed on the display connector to make sure it is in tight, but the issue still shows up. I would think that being able to clear the issue by pressing on the display rules out any software issues, but the way the discoloration behaves is sure strange. Has anyone seen this issue before?
I ahave an iphone 4 that belongs to my brother, he was involved in a crash a few days ago and lost his wife, They had just went and spent the day taking pictures with his iphone 4.. I heard of removing the memorey and frankinstien it to other iphone but as i only have a year of electronics engineering i am not sure of the process. In short please help... He really needs this,
Hi, Couple of nights ago at 1:30 and 1:31 am, my ipohone5 made 2 phone calls on its own. One to my uncle and one to my wife's phone and woke both households up!!!I turned it off last night in case it decides to start going through my whole phone book and make me the most hated member of the family!Has anyone had the same experience and/or knows how it happened and how to fix it?
Suddenly, about a week ago, shortly after I upgraded to iOS 6.1.3 my iphone 4S will no longer charge from any AC chargers, but still charges from the USB port in my laptops and work desktop. I have 5 or 6 wall chargers both Apple and other brands it won’t charge from any of them. They work fine charging my wife’s iphone 4S and my iPad 2 and iPad 4. I have seen others post about this problem but there are no fixes posted to date.
My wife got an iphone 5. We were able to switch everything from her iphone 4 with no problem. Now I'd like to switch from my 3 to her old 4. But she uses Verizon and I use AT&T. How do I do this?
I currently have a several year old Samsung Flyte phone. I am included with my wife's account under the AT&T family plan. My "line" has no data plan linked to it - her iphone 4S and her sister's iphone 3 do. The contract with AT&T for my phone/line expired several months ago. I'm thinking about upgrading to an iphone 4, but I don't want to give up my existing phone number. And, I understand that the iphone uses a micro SIM card - different that other manufacturer's phones. I'm pretty sure that I'll need to add a data plan to my "line" - not a big deal. Ideally, we want to add another line to the wife's plan (without data) and give the Samsung phone to her mom, who lives with us. But, I do not want to loose my phone number. We want my new iphone to have my existing phone number and the Samsung for her mom to have a new number. Is this possible?
My wife did it on her iPh4 yesterday.Phil
after upgrading to 6.1.3 the loud speaker stopped working on my wife's iphone 4GS. how can I tell if this is a hardware or software issue?
Switching my wife from Android to iphone but want to import here SMS/MMS activity. I found apps on Android that can export or import text files but I'm not sure how to import those to iphone. Is there an App that exists on both platforms that can smoothly do this?
Try Smart Recorder DE. My wife uses this app when she records interviews.
My wife needed to make space on her iphone because of the many videos she had on it. When she plugged the phone into our iMac, running 10.8.3, and connected to iPhoto to transfer the videos over the upload started as it normally does. However, during the middle of the transfer iTunes interupted and INFORMED my wife that the phone was now upgrading to the newest software version (6.1.3)being as we usually keep our phones up to date with upgrades anyways we didnt think much of it. Unfortunately during this process the software update failed and the phone crashed. We were left with two options "restore from backup" or "restore iphone." We tried several times to restore from the backup and we received the same error message every time "iTunes could not restore the iphone because the backup was corrupt or incompatable with the iphone that is being restored." I went into my library and checked out my backups folder and I saw that there were two new backups there for my wife's phone. One time stamped at the exact time the phone crashed and one from the last time I tried to restore(after the phone crashed). We finally decided that there must have been a glich with the softwarre download, since it didn't complete, so we decided to "Restore iphone" hoping that a corrected software would then allow us to restore from the backup properly. So the phone was wiped and reset with the new software, and we still cannot access the backup that we need. Though it is extremely frustrating that the videos of our toddler are gone, it is very important that we somehow find a way to access the information in the non corrupt backup files, her address and phone books as well as past text messages and calendars. I went to a site called iphonerecoveryonline and followed their protocol and I was able to see that all of the aboved mentioned information is still in those backups, but I have no way, with out paying these people $20 per file, to return that info to her phone. I would rather not have to pay to recover this info, but I guess that may be my only option? Any advice, experience or reccomendations would be greatly appreciated.
KiltedTim wrote: There are no battery issues that are attributable to iOS per se. Rapid battery drain can be caused by a number of factors. There was a bug in previous versions that could cause the battery to drain rapidly if the phone was linked to an Exchange account and a problem was encountered with a calendar entry that would cause the phone to continually attempt to sync with the server. Other common causes are rogue apps, and corruption during installation of iOS or in the backup used to restore the phone. I'm sorry but I'm going to have to 100% disagree with you on this. There is something horribly wrong in iOS since I think the 6.1.2 update that my wife's 4S experiences. She doesn't use exchange so it isn't the exchange bug. She is constantly killing the running processes to make sure that there are no apps running in the background that would eat up her battery. Plus they are all (3 of them) the same apps that she used prior to the updates and they didn't cause the drain. There is seriously something wrong in iOS that is the problem. I let it update to 6.1.3 last night hoping that it would solve it, but no. It is still having a problem. Prior to these updates the phone had phenomenol battery life, end of the day she would still have like at LEAST 45% available. Now, she has to plug her phone in on the commute home because it is almost dead.
Since upgrading to OS 6.0.1 my wife's iphone 4s will not connect to home wifi. On checking Settings, the wifi button is greyed out and cannot be changed. Since upgrading OS this had been intermittent. I also have a 4S & no problem. I have tried resetting network settings, all settings, switched on and off many times, soft reset with the home & power button and still no resolution. Does anyone have any solution please ?
So my wife bought an iphone 5 64g and also purchased a mophie juice pack case/battery. last night (3/23/13) she is sitting in a lawn chair and accidently lets the phone slide from her lap to the floor. the device probably fell a total of 12-18" and landed on the case portion (not flat faced). the LCD assembly (digitizer and all) came away from the housing completely. it was only connected by the ribbons/cables that provide power to the assembly. i work in the cellular industry and have dealt with iPhones for a while now and have never seen this happen before. the glass is not broken in any way. it appears as if any adhesive or clamping components used for the assembly simply failed. my concern is that if i go to the apple store for a replacement, am i going to get a hard time from some one at the "genius bar" claiming we abused or whatever the device? has any one experienced this or have any information regarding something similar? i accidentally sync my wife iphone 5 at my itunes library and i think it overwrites everything in her phone is there any possibilities we can restore her files?
Just bought an iphone 5....wife has one as well.....there is no facetime icon anywhere we can find......help!?!?!
Hi there My wife's found that her phone in her bag yesterday with the front screen shattered. Obviously it got a knock from something, we don't know what. What are our options? Can we get the glass replaced or repaired? She's nine months into a 2-yr contract. Thanks in advance
Hi, I have an iphone 5 (iOS 6.1.2) and a new iPad (third generation), and both devices are connected to my WiFi network. My AirPort Express runs firmware 7.6.3 and its wireless security is set to WPA2 Personal with radio mode 802.11n (b/g compatible). I cannot precise when I first notice the problem. Not sure if was before the AirPort Express update or some iOS firmware update. The problem is that my iphone 5 WiFi is deadly slow. It's virtually impossible to download an app from the AppStore or sync Rdio songs. My iPad's WiFi (and my wife's) is working as expected, though. Things I've tried so far: - I've changed my AirPort Express security to WEP- I've changed my AirPort Express to 802.11n- I've changed my AirPort Express to 802.11n 5GHz- I've reseted the Network Settings- I've tried to download apps using other 802.11n connection (at my parent's)- I've tried to download apps using a "unsecure" network- I've restored my iphone 5 to 6.1.2 using iTunes (setting it as a new iphone) I have no idea what to do next... EDIT: - I also did some tests with the Airplane mode ON, just to make sure the iphone was connected to and using the wifi connection to download the apps and sync Rdio songs.
My work now provides me with an iphone. My current phone is grandfathered with unlimited data plan. However, any change in the plan will eliminate the grandfathering. I would like to clear the data on the phone and have my wife assume the phone number to avoid this. If I "erase all content and settings" will this leave the number and presumably the account intact? Thanks for the help.
I send a text message to someone, but they reply goes to my wife's phone sometimes. We're both on the same itunes account. How do I fix this?
Hello, I have a problem about my wife's white iphone5. I bought it in line for a whole day last Septemper. She loves it so much. But yesterday she accidentally scratched the APPLE logo on the back of iphone5. She felt very sad, and hope me can do something for her. I know it's impossible to exchange a new one. Do you have any suggestion for me? Can I pay money to repair it or exchange a better one? Please help me, thank you. Peter
I dropped my iphone on the road & it cracked at the upper right corner. Initially it was still working but now i can see only vertical bright lines on my screen. I went to the nearest authorized Apple service centre in Bangalore, India. But they told since i had bought the phone from USA they can't help me service it. It was an unlocked iphone 4s 16gb that my wife got me last year. It is still under warranty but I don't think physical damage is covered under that. Anyway I'm ready to pay for the repairs/ replacement only don't know how. Please can somebody help me!!
I downloaded iOS 6.1 and then started having a wifi issue. I cannot connect I my works wifi or to my home wife. I thought downloading 6.1.1 would help but nothing changed. Then I downloaded 6.1.2 an again nothing changed. Is there a solution to fix my 4S?
Hello, I have a few lightning adaptors to connect my phone 5 to iHomes. Slowely the connection has been harder and harder to make for charging. I have to tilt the phone forward for it to begin charging. I have several adaptors and it happens with both. It does not happen with my wife's iphone 5, so it sounds like a hardware issue with my iphone 5. Anyone else experience this? Ideas?
Hi,Me and My wife just moved to Latvia from London. i have iphone 4s 32gb and she has 16 gb.Problem we are having is with charging our iphone's here. all the chargers we brought don't seem to charge our iphone's original or the replica's.we are really worried as it is a weird problem but as soon as we went back to london for work i put my iphone on charge and it worked with same chargers. problem is they won't charge with laptops as well but in uk it will charge with laptop and wall charger.really confused i think its may be some sort of software by iphone which protect our iphone when electric voltage changes country to country but then i checked uk and latvia share the same electri voltage and now i am moer confuse please help before i give up on iphone. Many ThanksP.S there are no apple support based in Latvia or Apple stores.
I may have messed up my wife's iphone. I connected it to my computer and it synched on my iTunes, adding a number of apps from my iphone to hers. Now her Facebook app won't launch. You touch it, and the phone thinks for a second, then just returns to the home screen. Is there a way to deal with this other than deleting the app and reinstalling it?
Or I can buy a Nexus 4 for half the price and deprive Apple of any more of my business. I say this typing on my iPad, and knowing that my wife has my iphone 4 (it was hers which was damaged), and my kids both have iPod touch's. To be fair, I thought the standard out of warranty repair/replacement price was good value given that most times it will be for accidental damage and not for failure of Apple parts, and the response to the service request was prompt and efficient. However, their massively different price for devices repaired by people other than Apple has put me right off buying another iphone. The price exceeds the cost of a new device from Apple Store. If they had simply said, sorry we cannot repair or replace your device because it has non Apple parts, then I would say fair enough. Why even offer to replace for a price higher than a new phone complete with accessories and a 12 month warranty?
I was in the process of updating my wife's iphone 4s, It went into recovery mode and tells me I should restore it completly. What happened and what should I do?
I recently updated to 6.0 on my iphone 4g. Since having updated my 4g cannot find any Wi-Fi signals. My wife's 4s is having no problem with our network. My 4g will not pick up known networks when typed in. I have Reset Network Settings and I have Reset All Settings. Nothing has solved the problem. I am going to go purchase a Samsung Galaxy III if there is no solution by the time I head to AT&T tomorrow at lunch. I am disgusted by Apple updates. My wife previously had the iphone 4g and after an update it stopped turning on. AT&T had to upgrade her to resolve the problem. This is the second time we have had issues that render our iphones obsolete-- no more, enough is enough.
We are waiting for someone to be responsive to our questions about 6.1.1 eating my battery. It appears to be related to exchange. My wife's phone works fine without exchange in the mix. So that being the case, why can we not get an Apple engineer to help us?
My wife went into the Chadstone (Victoria - Australia) shop today due to her iphone's (4) touch screen playing up. The phone was still quite functionable, in regards to expectations of a smartphone but became frustrating when the touch screen stopped working. There was a workaround for this (locking the screen then unlocking the screen) but was not an ideal fix, considering we were paying for a fully functional phone.Prior to going in, last night I ensured that all here apps and iOS were up to date, to ensure there wasn't and easily fixed software problem causing the issue. She was served by a staff member, who after examined the phone advised that there didn't appear to be a hardware issue so she would need to take it out the back to get the software checked. This was all that was explained to my wife, so she let the staff member take the phone to be checked. My wife had no issue handing the phone over as about 8 to 10 months ago she experienced an issue with her original iphone 4 and after a check (at the same store, again out the back) she was given a new phone a few minutes later due to the phone still being under warranty. My wife returned to the store about 30 minutes later after being told to wait 15 to 20 minutes, to verify what the problem was. Aft waiting 20 minutes she approached a staff member because no one had followed up with her regarding the phone. The staff member sought the initial staff member who had helped her and the staff member went out the back to check. The staff member returned and advised her that they had attempted to check the phone but for a reason (not explained) the phone and gone into panic mode and was unserviceable. My wife was offered a new phone for $150, as the warranty had expired or to come back another day to follow up on possible solutions. Having to pick up my son and due to not being that tech savvy, my wife opted to come back on a later day. After explaining the situation to me, I called the Chadstone store later that night to follow up on the situation due to the poor customer service.I was able to speak to the manager at the time, Joe, and after explaining the situation, I outlined my issues: 1. As my wife previously had a defective product, at no fault of her own, that was within warranty and it was replaced, why didn't the warranty begin again when she was given a new phone? Which later turned out to be defective as well. 2. Before handing over the phone, no attempt was made by the staff member to warn my wife that the phone was not covered by the original warranty, even though it was a replacement phone for a defective phone. 3. Before handing over the phone, no attempt was made by the staff member to to warn my wife that the phone could possibly be made unserviceable. If this was the case, I had pre- warned my wife that if there were any technical issues to contact me and I would advise her on what to do. 4. As the phone was functionable prior to the staff member taking responsibility for it and upon return was not functional AT ALL (read bricked), this was completely inappropriate. I explained that my wife relied on her phone for advice on our baby son. Joe acknowledged the issue but advised that they could not be accountable for the issue because if we were running old software and they had to restore it and run new software, then this was a possible outcome. I confirmed with Joe that the night before I had ensured I had updated all the apps and iOS, to ensure that these were not the causes of the issue. I also confirmed that my wife had not been advised of any possible issues prior to handing over the phone. If she had, she would have called me to confirm and I would have told her not too as it was not a serious issue.I advised Joe that this was not really appropriate customer service and I would jot be looking to pay $150 to resolve the issue and we were not at fault. Joe advised that he could not guarantee that we would not have to pay something but confirmed to come in and I confirmed he would be working the day I would be coming in. Surely based on the history of the issue, Apple are at fault here.
I bought an app for my wife as a gift. I received a receipt but neither me or her receive information about how to download it. I have a receipt but i cant find the app in either my or my wifes itunes acounts. Should she get an email with a link to the app store to down load it? or should it say to her when she logs into Itunes that she has received a Gift? Any help any one can offer would be appreciated Mick
So, since ‘upgrading’ my iphone 5 to 6.1 on Monday, my iphone has pretty much become useless. Any attempt to get through the day and I have to turn off Bluetooth, Siri, Wifi, email push, location… Pretty pointless having a smartphone really when you have to turn everything off without charging it twice a day. So today, the wife and I were going out so I decided to leave the phone at home sat on my bedside table, with 100% battery just to see what I'd come home to. No apps open. Email set to manual fetch. Here is the result when I got home. 15% battery life. 35 minutes of usage, 10hrs on standby. 0MBs of data downloaded, 0MBs of data uploaded. So my phone has been sat there for 10 hours, no apps open and the battery has drained by 85%. Last week I did two complete restores via iTunes. I deleted my IMAP email account and readded it. I've turned pretty much everything off and yet still, something is draining the battery. I'm playing dumb on Monday and taking it back to the EE store I bought it from with a screen grab of today's usage. I know it's a software fault but unless EE can convince me otherwise, I'm demanding a new phone. This time last week my iphone was the greatest gadget I owned. Today, it's a useless piece of metal and glass. I'm hoping that when you pay a large sum of money each month and are tied in to a contract for 24 months, you're entitled to demand compensation or at least a new phone. Watch this space.
My iphone5 screen looked obviously yellow than others, and the apple 400 refuse me to exchange saying it's normal to can't see white color on it. I buy it just 5 days ago. My wife's handbag was stolen on my way to apple service center. And I only got refuse. It's so fair.
My wife's iphone 4 has suddenly decided to delete all her contacts. She didn't connect to iTunes or do anything out of the ordinary. The phone kicked her out of a few applications back to the home screen, so she switched the phone off and on again. On checking contacts, she saw the entire lot were gone. No idea if they were gone before the switch off or not but all seems very strange. Subsequently updated to the latest OS6 to see if that would help (which it didn't!) but was running OS5 when the problem occurred
Any ideas why my iphone 5 will not connect to wifi after updating to iOS 6.1? I've turned the wifi off and on, same with the phone. Even told it to forget the network then reconnected. My iPad, my wife's non Apple device and my PC all connect fine.
I went to transfer pictures from my wife's iphone to IPhoto, it wouldn't. I updated ITunes and then tried to update her phone. It was motoring along and then stopped at the point it was installing the update. Left it there all night and still no change. I can't reboot my computer, I can't disconnect her phone and I can't closed ITunes. What am I supposed to do?
Okay so first my iphone. My iphone 5 has some problems first off my battery *****. My phones powers off sometimes by itself. The last problem is that my signal ***** I'm always on 2G!! I do not have apple care plus and I don't want to pay the 200 is this covered by the limited year warranty which I only have to pay 50$ My wife's iphone 5 It dies at 18-22% it does not go to the fully 0%. And her phone is also always on 2G !!! This phone does not have AppleCare + either is this covered by the limited 1 year warranty so I don't have to pay 200 and only 50? HELP.
HI, I upgraded my phone and I have both my ipad and my wife phone in the account. Now she receives all my messages and eveything i dont know whyHow can i stop this?
