blackberry user thinking about switching convince me iPhone

OK.Im new to this forum and not sure if this is even the appropriate place for this topic but here goes....Ive had a blackberry Bold 9000 for a year now and love it. But a longtime friend and colleague has had an iphone since their inception. He tried to convince me when I got the BB but i resisted. My wife recently got an ipod touch and I like it. All its missing is a phone.(at least seemingly on the surface) I use the BB for work and personal. I understand that there are trade-offs in both directions but want more details. Can you really NOT multitask(restart an app after ending a call that interrupted the app) Is the bluetooth truly stereo?(I stream to the car stereo) I also understand that i will no longer be able to purchase $5/month phone insurance on my cell plan(AT&T)Any other thoughts from anybody with a similar experience? Help for former blackberry User iPhone

I had a blackberry until a couple months ago. The button in the upper right hand corner of a blackberry is a sleep button but on a call it is a mute button. The button in the upper right hand of a iPhone is the sleep button...except when youre on a call it is the hang up button. When Im listening to conference calls and I want to go to mute real quick I tend to hit this button...and ta da! Im out of the call. Even after a couple months I just cant get used to not having this as a mute button. And really I kinda prefer having that button there because I can quickly mute to cough, ****, etc With the iPhone if the phone is up to my face I have to wait for it to sense Im not by the phone, turn the screen back on and then push mute. This is probably the only thing I miss about my BB is the mute button.Is there anyway to configure this button to be a mute button and not a hang up button??? Question is:How to set up a contact profile that enable the iphone to automatically dial and extension number just after the main telephone number? recieving MMS iPhone

On my iPhone 3GS I received an MMS earlier from a Sprint blackberry user. Showed up in my emails as an email, picture attached. (after fetching via sprints mail service)Later received an MMS from another Sprint blackberry user (different person) and it came through in my messages window as a text would. What gives? I am sure that I have found a post on this topic but now it is beyond my meagre powers to locate it.My iphone goes through the motions of sending an email - it shows the progress bar advancing and it makes the swoosh sound. However, when I check the sent folder it isnt there - it is sitting in the drafts folder.This is really beginning to annoy me not least because of the recent firmware upgrade which did not fix the issue - it happens with 1 in 5 email and it means that I cannot rely on the iphone to complete my communications causing me to consider changing to a blackberry....with all its downsides! iPhone connects without problem to car (handsfree). It iwll not connect with my blackberry 8700 headset. It also will not connect with my computer, despite the fact that my computer successfully paired with the iPhone....I entered the numeric code on the phone, etc, but still will not connect. How to display of voicemails on main screen iPhone

All,As you all know, on the main screen the Phone App icon displays the number of missed calls in a little red circle. This is the total of missed calls whether or not they left a message. To find out the number of voicemails, you need to enter the Phone App. I would like to see the number of voicemails at a glance on the main screen for at-a-glance convenience.It seems so ergonomically critical -- to know if youve got a message waiting instantly! I cant imagine this isnt in high demand.I know if the blackberry {BOO!} can do it, so must the iPhone. But a call to Apple tech support says officially this cant be done. I need a mod, hack, third party app, something! Help and thanks. Im a programmer and IT Consultant (without iPhone programming experience) so I dont mind getting my hands dirty. So here goes , I have a blackbery and I want to put all my contacts onto it using bluetooth , my previous cell/mobile phone , did it ok however this one does not ( the blackberry ) there is a wee message reading device does not have the necessary services . I can bluetooth my old phone / cell , and my Mac however I cant bluetooth from the Mac to the phone/cell . can any one help me here as it will take me eons to input all my contacts on the blackberry . iPhone deaf user accessibility

What can a deaf user do to make the iPhone more usable? What could Apple do to make it more usable for the deaf? Would they, considering theyve done so for the blind?These are a few questions on my mind lately. I have a deaf friend who currently uses a Sidekick LX, and while she hates it and wants to move to an iPhone, there are a few things about the Sidekick that I notice that are more useful than an iPhone would be in its current state. The most notable being a much stronger vibrate, more noticeable vibrate pattern, and LEDs on the outside that can be set up to flash various colors when a message is received. Additionally, theres a reminder light that continues to flash after the message is received. When compared to an iPhone, there really is no contest. The iPhone vibrate is hardly noticeable, and of course the only light on the iPhone is the screen. The lack of a persistent reminder (that 2-repeat buzzer doesnt even do it for me) makes it easy to miss if youre not like me and constantly glued to the iPhone screen.I think there should be a few things that help everyone notice a message or other such event from their iPhone. While theyd be especially useful for the deaf, I find myself longing for them all the same despite hearing just fine.1. External lights. They dont have to be extreme, maybe if the next iPhone gets a flash, that can be the light for the back, and then the home button could get a light hidden underneath it.2. Stronger vibrate motor. Nothing to it, really, just make a tiny earthquake in your pants so you can actually notice it going off even at the end of the world when everythings falling apart.3. More configurability for notifications. Like I said, that simple 2-repeat buzzer for the texts just doesnt cut it for me, let alone for somebody who cant hear to begin with. Something like being able to set a unique vibrate/flash/tone/repeat pattern. Even a blackberry can do more than just set a tone. Granted, on a blackberry, theres 6 menus you gotta dig through, then you gotta do a rain dance, make a human sacrifice, and then give up your firstborn to change the setting. :PAnybody know of plans to make the iPhone a more attractive option for the deaf, or of any third party solutions that correct any of the shortcomings? Ive already sent Apple this feedback directly, but Im not sure if theyre really reading it or even if its too late in this generations development cycle to make any changes.Seems thus far neither AT&T nor Apple have put much thought into it, as to get an iPhone for a deaf user, you first have to jump through the regular iPhone activation hoops and then call (or write? :P) to get set up on the data-only plan. iPhone 3GS 32gb White iPhone OS 3.1.3

When in email app cant go back in my email balance iPhone

I have switch from blackberry to iPhone few weeks ago. My entreprise email service work with exchange ans everything was working just fine until today. Previously, when I click on the email app, I was able to see all the emails I have receive, choose one, read it and then go back to my inbox by clicking the Balance button in the left upper corner of the screen. But since this morning, the balance button has disapear and im stuck on an email, with my only option is the file it, delete it or answer it. If i delete it, then the next email appears but I can go back in the inbox. Since I didnt change any settings, I cant figure out whats happening. Any idea? Lenovo ThinkPad Windows XP

OMG! its now 16 minutes into backup and am thinking I should go for dinner and perhaps it will be done... This happens ALL the time is is why I dont bother to backup. Ive just discovered that I cant transfer files using Bluetooth on my new high-tech iPhone. How do Apple get away with this?!? Such a basic tool that is on offer with every other handset on the market! So now Im going to have to use my work blackberry again..! I can see a common theme developing here..... My ringtones arent showing up on my phone iPhone 3G

I, like many others, had my phone synced when I didnt want it synced. It took all my music, videos, and ringtones off my phone. The music and videos are no problem gettin back on, and that part is already done. The ringtones are a different problem. If I sync the ringtones in my iTunes, they all go on and show up. If I manually add them, only 1 shows up.Now, I love the iPhone. Its a great phone. The problem with the iPhone is that it is made by Apple, who *****. Their too concerned with making people buy ringtones to make more money they screw us over and we cant even make ringtones out of songs we bought.If anyone can tell me why the ringtones show up in the Ringtones folder under my iPhone in iTunes, but dont show up on my iPhone when they were there today, youll have my respect. Why only 1 of the ringtones on my iPhone actually shows up boggles my mind. Theyre the same dang ringtones that we on my iPhone earlier, and now they dont work ???AAC version, change to .m4r. Done all that, and only 1 works.It would be great if someone from Apple were to read this, so they could know Ill be getting a freaking sweet new blackberry when my contract comes up. SMSs will not autosend when signal loss and re-established iPhone

On every cell phone I have in the family, when I send a text message with NO SERVICE available, the phones will AUTOMATICALLY send the text once a signal is picked up. Our home gets no full cellular reception, except by a window with ONE bar. So we text at times while on the couch, place the phone by the window on the back of the couch, and our texting works as described above.Ok, I just got a new iPhone 16GB 3Gs. What it poorly does, is it totally fails to send the text. You have to WAIT while a signal is obtained, click the RED EXCLAMATION MARK CIRCLE, and then manually click TRY AGAIN.Is there a way to set it to automatically keep trying to send the text? If not, the phone definitely needs an update fix.The other phones that I have, which do it automatically, are a blackberry 8310, Samsung Solstice, Sony Walkman 580i, Pantech Matrix, Motorola Razor. So I see no reason why the iPhone shouldnt be able to do it also. iPhone 16GB 3Gs iPhone OS 3.1.3 Need to check firmware, so nut sure what version yet

Silent override setting for only certain people iPhone

There is one thing stopping me from buying an iPhone and Im really hoping somebody has a fix for me. On my blackberry, Im able to assign a ringtone and volume to certain people...making it possible to switch my phone to silent when I go to sleep, and only 2 people will wake me up if they call. International Numbers saved on phonebook not being recognized by iphone 3GS

A problem just started with my phone about 2 weeks ago. Ive always saved my numbers in the international format with + then country code and number. For some weird reason im now getting international calls as 00 countrycode then number and the iphone is not detecting this as the same number on my phonebook. I recreated a situation on my blackberry recieving a call from overseas with 00 and it was save as + and it detected the phonebook entry. Want an iphone but need msging like BB

Id love to switch the wife and I over to iPhones, but I do a lot of international travel. We currently use Blackberrys because the blackberry messenger service goes phone to phone and does not cost me a dime, even when out of country. Texting, be it sms or using an AOL or MSN app, wracks up charges really quick.Does anyone know if the theres a way to accomplish this with an iPhone? Ive looked into some of the free text programs, but as I understand it you have to have data service going. Im assuming you get charged for international data access?Thanks!

But I figured I would post it here just in case there is an app or a mod that someone has used to fix some of these problems.I am switching from an old blackberry Pearl and expected there to be some basic PHONE features included in the iPhone 3gs. I was very disappointed to find out that these features are missing even though the phone is brand new and no longer 1st generation.1) Message Ringtones: You cant modify them without hacking the phone, seriously? And only 6 seconds long? The message alert goes away after 3 times, why not an option to keep blinking, etc? For some people SMS alerts are MORE important than grandma calling.2) Custom message ringtone per contact: Not an optionThe concern over message ringtones is HUGE for me and I am considering selling my iPhone to switch to the Samsung product that offers a touchscreen and these features. You may wonder why this is such a big deal for me, its just text messages after all. For me, a text message can mean A) ATT is trying to sell me an upgrade or B) My companys server alert just went out saying that the server load was high and about to crash. This is why message alert tones need to be customizable per contact. I only want 1 of those alerts to wake me up in the morning, guess which one? Its basic usage of todays phones.. comeon now!These features are all standard and easily configurable on the Samsung iphone imitation products as well as the Blackberries from 3-4 years ago.3) I used to plug-in my blackberry and it would show up as a removable device. I could browse to ringtones, mp3 folder, and photos very easily no matter what computer I was on. Now I have to be on a computer that has iTunes on it. New User With Couple Questions iPhone

Ive browsed the forum and there are just thousands of posts and Im getting a bit overwhelmed, so I thought Id start a thread in the hopes that 1-2 really good users (Allan, etc.) will help me out ...My questions are these:1.) Why doesnt the text messaging show me the time stamp for all the texts? And, related to that, what is the rhyme or reason to when it does insert the timestamp? It seems very random. I sometimes have a need for knowing exactly when a text was sent.2.) My iPhone in phone mode is very quiet. My music plays loud on speakerphone, no problem, but my phone is very quiet on speakerphone. Granted, I cant hear a pin drop in a loud room, but still ... Its soft. Is there a way to adjust the master volume levels? The in-call sound on the handset is the same way, Ive hung up on my mother out of frustration not being able to hear her ... Same for the notification beeps. I had a blackberry previous to this, and the sounds on the BB were much louder and easier to identify. 3.) I think I know the answer to this, but, on my home WiFi network, it will continually ask me for the password. On one particular session the password is retained, but the next day it asks me for it again ... Does it not save WiFi passwords, or, is this a function of my router resetting something each day and forcing iPhone to ask again ... Hi, my phone is unlocked. It is a Rogers phone, but I am using Fido (owned by Rogers). I am wondering if I get the $25 500mb data plan if it will work with my phone. there is are several long threads concerning that there is no iphone app and no way to make an iphone app that records a conversation made on the iphone.But i like to renew the issue with 4 questions: (1) what - (might) technically (aspects of the iPhone 3GS and its OS) prevent iPhone develpers from including such functionality in their iphone apps? Although one application at a time can run on the iPhone (i dont know if this is still the case for 3GS), the phone or video functionalities are likely to be part of the OS, thus not violating this rule.(2) is it possible to record something (a) visual or with the camera or (b) audio with the speaker -- and have it stream real time via a webservice (f.eks) to the users (or other) server? (like Shazam steaming sounds recording)? And if not real-time than simply to phone storage and then to some server?(3) is it possible to stream a voice recording or music to the iPhone 3GS and have it play from the speaker in real-time?(4) this functionality is especially interesting if it can be streamed in real time to a server. This is certainly possible. Shazam does it everytime the user asks it to recognize a song. It streams the sound recording to its server to identify the tune. Is there something on the iPhone that prevents this from happening when the microphone is used in a phone conversation?(5) large phone providers like nokia and (partially) blackberry provide the possibility for recording conversations made via their phones. And i know there can be a lot of speculation about the legalities of providing uninformed functionality (certainly less odious than hand guns or (drink and drive) alcohol use) that can be used illegaly. Contact name showing when receiving call but not in missed calls list iPhone

My friend is having a problem on her iPhone 3GS. Whenever she receives calls from people in the phonebook, their names appear with no problem. But if she doesnt answer the call, only the number appears in the missed calls list and not the name.This is occurring on her phone with contacts which are stored with the country code (e.g. +966XXXXXXXXX). In the missed call list, the number appears as 0XXXXXXXXX. I tried to replicate this problem on my phone but I didnt have a problem; names showed up properly on my iPhone when she called me, and even in the missed call list, and her number was also stored with the country code in my phonebook.Both our phones are officially unlocked. I bought mine from Mobily (official iPhone carrier in Saudi Arabia) and she bought hers from Etisalat (one of the official iPhone carriers in UAE, which is also Mobilys parent company) but both have the exact model number. We are both using the same carrier in Saudi Arabia; STC (we can do this because the phones are officially unlocked). We also both synced our contacts to our new iPhones via Google Sync (we both migrated from the blackberry 8900 Curve).I checked the regional settings on both phones, and we are both using the US settings (since Saudi Arabia isnt one of the available options)The only difference that I found was that she had iPhone OS 3.1.2 and I have iPhone OS 3.1.First of all, how can she fix this issue?Second of all, will I have this problem if I upgraded to 3.1.2?I checked on-line, and it seems that most people install a region-fix via Cydia to support their countrys phone number format. Switching from blackberry to iPhone

Hi all. First time poster here. I know this has probably been answered before but apparently my search skills arent what I thought they were.I have an iPhone 3G and my wife has a blackberry Curve. I just ordered a 3GS via AT&T to replace the blackberry. However, I want to just use the 3GS myself and give my 3G to my wife. So I will need to switch my 3G phone to her current phone number and set the new 3GS to my current number. iPhone 3G randomly freezing after 3.1.2 upgrade

I have suffered from 3.1.2 Freezing for many weeks. My wifes iPhone only recently came down with it as well. 1.) Apple, if you are reading this - can you at least acknowledge the problem and that youre working on a fix? This device WAS great but now is so frustrating, Im thinking about defecting back to a blackberry.2.)
