iPhone 4 freezing when multitasking

Hi,I recently purchased my iPhone 4 last weekend, upgrading from my 3GS. I had no problems with the multi-tasking on my 3GS it worked fine but when I am closing down apps on my iPhone 4 it is freezing the phone and is sometimes even totally restarting the device. I have tried totally restoring the phone from backup but I am still getting the same problem.Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks,Chris PC iOS 4 iPhone 4

iOS4 restore not keep app folders iPhone 4

Ive had to restore my iPhone 4 twice now from a backup, and each time Ive had to spend over an hour recreating folders and reorganizing my apps back into the folders the way I last had them. I guess this is a feature request for backups to retain folder placement and contents, please! The data structures needed seem to exist already and are used by iTunes to remember the apps layout there. Any other way of saving my apps folders from iPhone 4? iPhone 4 iOS 4 MacBook Pro / OS X 10.6.4

When I got home, I plugged in the new phone and everything went out of wack. Upgraded to 4.0.2-backup files look weird iPhone 3G

I have upgraded a 3G to 4.0.2. The upgrade did NOT invite me to do a backup. (Im scared stiff doing upgardes of any sort and always opt for backups if Im given the chance!) I dont understand why the files which are on my hard disk where (I think) backups should be dont seem to match the backups that iTunes thinks I have. Please can anyone explain to me why they look different and what backups I do really have?On my hard disk in location Macintosh HD-Users-myname-Library-iTunes-iPhone Software Updates I have just one item. It is called iPhone1,2_4.0.2_8A400_Restore.ipsw and it was modified at the time I did the upgrade to 4.0.2. It is 305.4MB. In that folder of iPhone Software Updates there is nothing else and the folder itself was modified at the exact same time ie when I did the upgrade. However, if I look in iTunes under iTunes-Preferences-Devices under Device backups it tells me I have 3: the first is dated when I did the upgrade to 4.0.2; the next is from 20 months ago; and the 3rd is from 6 months ago.To me it seems that iTunes thinks I have 3 backups but I can only see 1 on my hard disk. Please can someone explain whats going on?

My iPhone 3G clashes when upgrading from 4.01 to 4.02

I need some help or advice. My iPhone crashed when I upgrade from 4.01 to 4.02. It asked me whether I would like to reset. I said yes thinking it will take me back to 4.01. Actually it takes me back to the day I purchased the phone. That is to say, I lost all my programmes ( I can download them again). The worst part is, I lost my phonebook and emails account. Can anyone tell me whether my phonebook and emails account were backup somewhere in my computer? Appreciate for the help. DELL Inspiron 640m iOS 4 Windows XP

Battery percentage issue iPhone 4

When I charge my phone to 100% overnight (wall) and unplug it, the battery literally drops to 99% within a minute of usage (email checking etc). It happened this morning and then I rebooted the phone which knocked it back to 100% for an extra 10 mins or so till it went to 99%. It also seems to drop fairly fast...I tried exiting all my background apps which helped a bit but not really. restoring the phone, etc...Ive got push email on, wifi on, push notifications on, Bluetooth off. Right now Im at 88% battery usage with 1 hr 5 mins usage (browsing) and 1 hr 22 mins standby. Does this seem weird?Ive restored with backup, restored as a new phone and same problem. I was thinking it might be a rogue app but Ive exited everything - an app couldnt cause battery drain just by being installed could it? Dell Windows 7

Upgrading iPhone 3g to iPhone 4

My question has probably been asked before but after searching the forum for a few days, I am unable to get a clear picture so I hope someone can help me.I just bought an iPhone 4 and would like to know what is the correct way to migrate my iPhone 3g backup onto it.I completely understand the part where i need to do a backup of the old one and then restore from this backup onto the new phone. My concern though is I have not upgraded my iPhone 3g OS to iOS4, it is still running on 3.1.2. And after reading the stories of how other iPhone 3g users have experienced having really slow phones after the upgrade, I am hesitant to do so.So finally here are my questions: 1. Can I restore my iPhone 3g OS 3.1.2 backup directly onto my iPhone 4? 2. Or is it essential to upgrade my iPhone 3g to iOS4.01 first to have a compatible backup to restore from? I have read somewhere that a user had to wait 72 hours when they tried it(?).3. And does anyone know when iOS4.1 or iOS4.02 with hopefully the fix for the 3g laggy issue is coming out? Please help! Thanks! =D iPhone 3G iPhone OS 3.1.2

But alas nothing. And apparently Time Machine sync was turned off somehow, so thats of no use. Please help!!! MacBook Pro Mac OS X (10.5.8) iPhone 3G

Recurring Compass Calibration Issue iPhone 4

Hi,since a few days (but before the 4.01 upgrade) I am having a strange issue with the compass.Every time I start an app using the compass it prompts me to calibrate it using the 8 pattern. This is no problem for me, after doing the descrobed figure, the compass is calibrated and works fine. Now the problem:I quit the compass app and open it again at exactly the same spot where I was standing and the calibration message appears again. This happens every single time i open a compass app, regardless of where I am. Even when hiking in the mountains (where it is very annoying to recalibrate the compass every time i switch apps). It seems to be a sofware issue with the calibration data which does not get saved permanently after calibration.I found out that the compass works again normally and keeps the calibration after i do a complete reset of the iPhone including deleting all data (only deleting the settings did not work). The problem is that after I restore my iPhone from the iTunes backup, the calibration issue arises again. So now I have the choice of keeping all my application-data and settings or having a functioning compass. This is very annoying for me. Any ideas? Is there a way to delete the compass related configuration data in the iTunes backup? Thanks in advance iPhone 4 32GB black iOS 4

Internal Device Error iPhone 4

I cant put into words how frustrated I am with this. Ive been working on this for a few weeks now. I have gone through the painful process of performing a clean reinstall of iTunes on a cleanly reinstalled OS (Windows7).Everything appeared to have gone well until the time came to sync my apps/music/movies. At 99% of the entire sync progress, I get a message Attempting to copy to the disk xxxs iPhone failed. An internal device error has occurred. This is my second iPhone that Ive had to exchange. Ive set this phone up as a new device, never restoring from a backup so as to eliminate the possibility of bringing in some previous problem.Any help would be greatly appreciated. iPhone 4 No sound from earpiece

Afternoon, this is the first time i have ever registered on a forum or posted a message but i feel so frustrated by the problem that it has forced me to do so.Basically, i was really happy with my iPhone 4 up until about a week ago and am now riddled with issues. First off, i have never had a 3G signal (this was not an issue with my iPhone 3G so no comments about area, and yes, the function is turned on in settings). Apparently it has something to do with VPN settings getting corrupt when restoring from backup to a new phone. Ok, so ill reset my phone and delete the corrupt settings. Issue resolved but still a pain.Secondly and most importantly, my lovely new iPhone 4 has suddenly started dropping sound from the earpiece, and the person on the other end cant hear me also. I have done extensive research into solving the issue and apparently it is a common problem. (to those out there thinking they had this problem but realising they hadnt removed the protective film - REALLY!!!!)So, i have tried resetting the phone, restarting the phone, restoring the phone (if there was any more re....s that i could do, i would) and sometimes it works but the problem always comes back. One other thing that sometimes works is inserting and removing your headphones into the socket a few times - like i really want to be doing that all day to make a call.It seems that the phone is getting confused as to what mode it is when making a call and lots of people are having the same problem. The only real fix - get a new phone.Final problem, it means me visiting an Apple Store to resolve the issue. I dont live anywhere near an Apple Store, brilliant.I think ive made myself quite clear.Laters. iMac

iphone stuck in emergency mode after downgrade from 4.0.2 to 4.0?Upgraded to 4.0.2 last night. Immediately, itunes would no longer detect my iphone. Decided I had to downgrade back to 4.0 again. Started up my iphone attached to itunes in restore mode, held down shift, and clicked restore button. Successfully restored the 4.0 file I had downloaded. At the first boot, it was stuck in emergency mode. Problem with backing-up no date shown for manual backups of my iPhone

Hey guys,Ive got a problem with backing up my iPhone that I am pretty worried about. When I try to make a manual backup of my iPhone in iTunes it appears to make a backup. However when I check out the list of backups made, it only shows backups from 15th july 2010 and before, as well as the default undated backup. It appears as if my manual backup is made, but that it is written over the undated autobackup made by iTunes when I sync. However I just want to be able to store several recent backups! How can I make manual backups again?!Thanks a million for helping me out!! PC Windows 7 iPhone OS 4.0.2

No audio on phone calls-fixable software issue iPhone 4

My iPhone 4 started misbehaving yesterday. Though Im able to make and receive calls (the call connects, the seconds start ticking), I get no audio at all in the call - that is, the poepole Im calling cant hear me, and I cant hear them. All other apps produce and receive audio perfectly, and Im able to call using Skype, so it doesnt seem to be a speaker/mic hardware issue. After restoring the phone twice, once as a new phone, and once from my backup, theres no improvement. I even tried a couple different SIM cards, all to no avail.Anyone else having this issue? Regular Hotspots Wifi weasy PW shows connection but wont connect anymore iPhone 4

I must be the only idiot at my two regular hotspot cafes that cant connect to their Wifi. At first I thought that perhaps their systems were down, and I would ask them (reluctantly) to reboot their routers. Thereupon, their owners would use their Non iphone smartphones and indicate to me that their Wifi on their phones was working. Nothing else has changed on their systems ie passwords and type of router. My Wifi icon shows connected , as well as Network settings shows checkmark. Neither of the two hotspots are the kind that bring up a signup web page. I dont really want to do a Network reset, because basically , that was done when I set up the IP4 the first time, even though I did restore from a backup, but has to put in new network settings. When I go to the Apple store, of course, I am able to get their Wifi connection, so they probably wouldnt bother doing a hardware test upon seeing that I have a connection there. My wifi connection WPA at my House is fine. If I set up a Genius appointment, what kind of a hardware check would they do?After all these forums I have read, I sort of believe that the Wifi chip has to undergo some future firmware update to address some incompatibilities with certain routers/setups. iMac 2.4ghz Intel Based 24 inch Mac OS X (10.6.4) iPhone 3G S 4.0

iPhone 3G Caller ID

Im curious as to how the caller ID works on an iPhone. I noticed that before I had caller ID, all numbers would show up as unknown. Now that I have caller ID, if a number is saved, it will show whatever it is saved under, and if its not saved, it will simply display the number. One thing Ive noticed on my friends Blackberry Bold is that regardless if he has a number saved or not, it will always display a name. Im wondering if there is a setting to have this on my iPhone. So even if a person calls me from a number I dont have saved, I still would like it to show a name if it isnt a restricted call. 27-inch, 3.06GHz, iMac Mac OS X (10.6)

iPhone 4 quasi-recognised but not where it counts

My problem has become the bane of my life in the past week. Ill give you the whole story in detail first and explain the problem at the bottom for those of you who just want to read on in case its a simple and obvious fix Im clearly overlooking...I bought my iPhone 4 the day it came out on O2 (UK). Ive had my Macbook since August 2007 and it was running OS X 10.4. I was also given a SIM card that I could put in my old phone and copy the contacts across and snap down into a Micro-SIM to put into my iPhone 4. Upon coming home, I found out I couldnt sync it to my Macbook because I needed a more recent version of OS X, so I decided to set it up on my mums laptop (essentially unused and brand new laptop, because she doesnt know the first thing about computer and I still have no idea why she bought it in the first place... It is running Windows 7). The iPhone started up okay and I synced a few songs Id hastily downloaded and the next day I went away for Spain for a month where I took loads of pictures, lovingly stored on my iPhone. On my return from Spain, I wanted to back up my iPhone and get some new music (as Id grown incredibly sick of the 30-odd songs Id taken away with me to sunbathe with) and save my pictures in case anything went wrong. I also wanted a fix so that I could get my iPhone to sync to my Macbook (as Im going back to University and away from mums laptop in about 3 weeks)... I managed uploaded my pictures onto facebook and my mums computer, so theyre safe (thank God!) I went to the Apple Store after reading online, and realised I had to buy the Snow Leopard Family Pack (or whatever its called, the expensive one with iLife and iWork included) and updated my Macbook yesterday, along with the other extras.I was finally ready for my iPhone to get all of my music from my iTunes that Id build up over the last few years and was eagerly waiting everything to be good in the world. I plugged my iPhone in and immediately iPhoto comes up and offers to import all of my pictures. After this I wonder why iTunes hasnt come up and do it manually. The iPhone is not there as an option, nor is it on the desktop (as was normal with my old iPods...) I followed instructions I found online, and proceeded to Reset All Settings, restart the iPhone, iTunes, try different USB ports, completely remove every lingering file of iTunes and reinstall it, make sure everything was up to date and from all of this Ive had no luck!I plugged my iPhone back into my mums laptop and restored it to factory settings. It was finally back to how it was in the beginning and I took it out and shoved it into the Macbook. This time, NOTHING. I plug it back into my mums laptop and sync it again to make sure all is okay (dont worry I had a list saved of all my apps because for some reason I thought this was the most important thing) and realised all my contacts had been deleted. This wouldnt be a problem if I hadnt leant my old phone to my brother for his trip around Europe whilst I was in Spain and it was stolen from him...SO... To conclude, after getting over the shock that I no longer have any important contacts from my year abroad in Denmark, nor my friends back here in the UK (who Ill see anyway so its not as important), and the annoyance that Ill have to create one of those annoying Facebook groups I hate asking for contact details and giving my number out to the world... I STILL cant sync my iPhone to my Macbook (10.4, upgraded to 10.6.3) which has cost me not only the cost of an iPhone I dont wish to use in its current state, but ≈£130 for the OS upgrade, and an additional £100 for the new external hard-drive to make sure everything was backed up nicely before I performed the update.PLEASE HELP ME, Im all out of things to try!!xxx Macbook Mac OS X (10.6.3) (Originally Tiger, Updated to Snow Leopard)

transferring saved data to new iphone. 3G

I just recently upgraded my laptop from the original macbook pro to the new 13 inch ones. doing that I am giving my older laptop, hence i have to transfer all the data to my new one. I didnt do the firewire transfer and did everything manually as i wanted everything to be fresh and new. one problem is that i dont know how to transfer my current apps saved data(games, etc) to my new itunes in my new laptop. how do you do that? i have backed up my apps into another and transferred it to my new one, but i doubt if the saved ones too get transferred, how do you know if the saved data too is saved? as synching automatically removes everything? Computer Reset to Factory Settings-iPhone in Limbo 3G

I have always synced my iPhone 3G to my Macbook and made a backup on an external hard drive around a year ago. Since that I have added so much stuff and my iPhone is full with photos, apps and music. Unrelated to my iPhone, my Macbook got a blue screen of death and I had no choice but to restore it back to factory mode. Obviously if I now plug in my iPhone it will be completely wiped of all information. What can I do? Is there anyway to get the information (music, photos etc) from my iPhone back onto my mac? I would like to edit the content of my phone! iPhone 3g

Rain Damage New Phone backup iPhone 3G

My phone was damaged by rain on Saturday. Orange are replacing it under my insurance agreement. Now about a month before my phone was damaged i upgraded the OS to OS4, which included a full backup to my HD.Ive been told that when my new phone arrives, my existing number will be the same. But will i be able to copy that previous backup to this new phone? Also since that backup, i have purchased 1 other app. Will i have lost that? iOS 4

Rollback from iPhone OS 4 0 3G

Hi AllI see a lot of people are having issues with the OS 4.0 and with the iPhone 3G. I feel your pain and I want to roll the OS back to a previous version that works. Is this possible?I found a few pages on the web that talk about rolling back by pressing the shift and alt keys while pressing the restore button but I cant find any backups. Where does iTunes put the backups (I always say yes to a backup before upgrading to the latest version).I wont be upgrading the phone again untill I know its fixed.Message was edited by: Teamwild Windows 7
