forward emails to email groups iPhone 3G

I was using the iMail app for forwarding emails to comtact groups. Before 3.0 the app worked like a charm and really saved time not having to select all the email addresses to forward emails to. Receiving an MMS. Am i doing something wrong iPhone

Hey guys,Just wondering if anyone knows why the MMS feature does this (on my phone anyway). When i receive an MMS from someone who is saved in my contacts, i receive the MMS fine (text and photo), but their details show up as their phone number and not their name.If i dont recognise the number i have to go through my entire contacts until i find them.I then have to save the number the MMS was sent from (it includes Country Code) under their contact.Replying to their MMS goes direct to them, but when they reply back to me with an SMS, they appear twice in my messages box. One for the MMS and one for the SMS. Isnt there a way of just having it all combined?I hope i havent confused anyone. Mac OS X (10.5.7)

Contacts conflict with international code iPhone

Dear all,I have iPhone 3G factory unlocked and I upgraded its software to 3.0 but after the upgrade, everytime i recieve a call from a local number that is saved in the contacts with its international code it appears on the phone as a number (no name) so I have to delete the international code from the saved contact to make the name appears again! This happens in text messages too!Did anyone face this issue before? Thanks and best regards. 3G iPhone OS 3.0

iPhone restore screwed up my iphone cant see apps. 3G

So I restored my iPhone, and it wont show any of the apps that should have been restored from the backup. At first I thought the apps werent restored, but then when I deleted one from the itunes application list, itunes asked me to sync my iphone and it restored those apps from my iphone to itunes. So the apps must be on there, i just cant see them. i dont know what to do, i cant redownload them from itunes cause it wont let me, and restoring it wont help.UPDATE: I was using iphonebrowswer to see if i could figure anything out, and i saw that in the applications folder at the root level had the basic apps installed by apple. then if i go to User/applications, that has all of the apps i need. I still dont know how to fix it, i hope that helps you understand whats going on... 3G iPhone OS 3.0

Custom ringtone settings not saved iPhone 3G

Anyone know if there is anything that can be done to preserve ringtone settings? I installed the 3.0 update, and everything went flawlessly, except (just like other updates) the custom ringtones I have assigned to a few directory entries changed back to default. not really a big deal for me because I only have a few assigned (my immediate family). But it will be a real pain when I apply the update to my wifes phone. She has a assigned a unique ringtone to nearly EVERYONE in her directory <sigh>.I am extremely happy with the new update, but it seems like such a small data element would not be that hard to backup. Bad and Good upgrade news. iPhone

Some days ago I downloaded and saved OS 3, electing not to then install it.This morning as soon as I connected to iTunes the phone immediately started with the upgrade without any intervention on my part. I had wanted to keep 2.2.1 for a little longer to see how many had problems with the upgrade - but alas this chance has now vanished. Now the good news is that the upgrade seems to have installed OK, and everything tried, so far, works.Message was edited by: Dan Mitchell1 Mac Mini, iPhone 3G Mac OS X (10.5.6)

Restoring Phone to Factory iPhone

I would like to restore the phone back to what it was when I got it without all my apps. I already have my apps copied to my computer and all my contacts etc synced with mobileMe so I dont necessarily need to restore from a back up. Ive tried to restore my phone and now at the end of everything it gives me the option to Restore as a new phone or Restore from backup. If I restore as a new phone does that Deactivate the phone and go through the whole activation process? I was a little confused about what that actually meant. Can anyone give more insight to this option? Mac OS X (10.5.7)

Weird thing happened while updating 3G to 3.0 can explain iPhone

I tried to update my iPhone 3G to firmware 3.0 on my Windows XP laptop (Dell mini 9 with external hard drive) using iTunes 8.2 and I bricked the device to the point where iTunes would not even recognize its presence. I succesfully put it in DFU mode, but iTunes still couldnt recognize it. So I installed iTunes 8 on a computer at work with Windows XP also, and I was able to recover and update my iPhone 3G flawlessly. Now Im restoring my iPhones backup from my Dell Mini. Can anyone explain why my Dell Mini laptop bricked my iPhone in the first place and stopped recognizing it while the other one worked as a charm???? By the way.... the backup Im using is from when it had firmware 2.2.1... That doesnt mean that Ill lose the 3.0 update, right? Or will I? Dell Mini 9 Windows XP iPhone 3G, update 3.0

What design flaws have u noticed ErgonomicsHuman Factors discussion iPhone

Hello everyone,I received my iPhone 3G S early in the AM on Friday via UPS. Apple has once again produced a quality product. However, I have noticed a few design flaws. This thread is open to any type of ergonomics (aka human factors) discussion. New input is encouraged ☺ Anyway, here are a few things I have come across.Voice Control: I have had poor experiences so far with this feature. the ratio of accurate to inaccurate responses…is not good. It is in favor of being inaccurate. Granted, any voice command will have its inaccuracies, this has just been frustrating. It is more time consuming to get Voice Control to respond correctly than selecting the item yourself. Hmm…wasn’t that partially the point of having this feature?iPhone video –to→ PC/Mac: As many know, video taken with the iPhone is saved in Camera Roll. After taking video & some photos from an evening, I connect my iPhone to my MacBook Pro. I import my photos & video into iPhoto, into a specific album. In iTunes, I select to sync my iPhone with the photo album. After I synced, I looked at my iPhone album I had just created & added. Sadly, I find that my video did not sync as well. ☹ Instead, I had to import the video into iTunes. So, the video is in my iPod on my iPhone, and not in my photo album that shares the events of the same evening ☹ MacBook Pro Mac OS X (10.5.7)

Using iPhone to transfer contacts calendar etc to new computer

Im looking into purchasing a gently used MacBook. I currently have a pc (I dont dress like him) and my iPhone is currently synced to Outlook on it, and a few playlists are synced also. When I get the MacBook, Id like to start off by having my current contacts and calendars on it. Is it possible to fire up iTunes on the MacBook and copy everything over? I would most likely use the MacBook as my primary machine, and use the old, slow PC as backup storage for things, and perhaps just keep my music library on it.A simple solution might very well be using MobileMe. One question - if I use MobileMe email, does it support using a different email address for Reply To? I have an email forwarding service that I use that gives me an email address that Ill use for life... I want to keep that email address. Thanks!Harry

iphone 3.0 Update Slow backup Process-Why Design backup like

Hi All,Im hoping one of Apples staff will respond to this post. Im sorry it is long and rambling, but the interesting stuff is at the bottom, so stay with me...please. And yes Im a bit frustrated because my lovely iPhone has now been tied up for 9+ hours... not a good user experience. This post is really about the backup process itunes initiates whenever I attempt to sync my iphone. Ive never yet seen itunes get to the end of the backup. After the first 6 hours I get board and stop the process. iTunes is installed on Vista 64. Well last night I downloaded Itunes 3.0 update and kicked off the upgrade process in iTunes. All was well (and at the time of writing I guess still is). the backup kicked off at 21:54 on 17 June. It is now 8:11 on 18 June and the backup is still going. the progress bar is still increasing (no x available to cancel) and Ive the folder location in open in Windows Explorer. Last time I looked the backup folder contained some 21,000+ files. 1st file plist.status was written at 21:54. iTunes backup is still posting files to this folder!!!Using some pretty basic Windows Tools to see what was going on I found out the following.Apple backup uses 3 processes, one a Windows Service called AppleMobileDeviceService.exe. Another process called AppleMobileDeviceHelper.exe and AppleMobileBackup.exe. They are all network enabled. AppleMobileDeviceService is the hub and listens on port 27015. It talks to the other two services on various & variable port range in the TCP/IP stack.Using Windows Performance Monitor I can see that the TCP conversation going on between AppleMobileDeviceService & AppleMobileBackup is running at between 9,000,000 Bytes a Minute (min) and 14,000,000 Bytes a Minute (max). That is 1.2 Megabits per Second (min) & 1.86 Megabits per Second (max). That too me is very slow when the USB 2.0 interface its connected to has a capacity of up to 480Mbits per second. It occurs to me that the methodolgy Apples Devs have chosen for the backup process appears to be incredibly flawed. I cant test whether the backup is also using compression, although I hope so because of the 21,000+ files (and climbing) in the backup folder to date they only add up to 200MBytes. My iPhone has 7 of its 8GBytes used, so I could be in for a very long haul before I get my updated iPhone 3.0 software.Apple, please this isnt a dig, I know Ive got Windows on the desk (its my day job)but I love my iPhone and AppleTV.Can you ask your Devs to explain why they chose to use such a slow methodology to underpin the iPhone backup service. Or, is it that the potential high speed backup that is possibel over TCP/IP is just very broken?Lastly, when is Apple going to fix this, because this backup thing is very broken and giving your customers an incredibly poor user experience.Anyway, hope this was a little bit informative for those suffering the same trying to get their iPhone upgraded to 3.0.ThanksPete. handcrafted+dell w7+vista+2008

Iphone 3.0 upgrade Mail Application not Working 3G

Greetings, After upgrading to 3.0 software, all applications seem to work, with some slightly longer loading times....except for one!the one application that will not work...MAIL_______________________________________________Upon launching mail, the application will load show my inbox and try to retrieve mail. Usually within 10 seconds it kicks back out to the home screen. Other variations of this problem are not loading the mail program at all as well as loading the mail app accepting some input, then black screen to home screen reload.the only other variation of this was once mail started, I tried to hold my finger on the screen and scroll. Wait until the application was done checking for mail. Up in the top left corner of the screen the working or loading icon is still in action. As soon as I let go of the scrolling, I get kicked out. Last variation on this theme was the upper left loading icon not occuring, I release scroll and then kicked out of mail application.I tried turning off each individual mail account (I have three set up, hotmail, gmail, .mac). I also tried turning all mail accounts off. I tried turning on and off push and fetch features on each individual account and running mail. Absolutely NO luck in any variation.Turning the iPhone into AIRPLANE mode allowed me to run mail, read emails. I even thought perhaps I was able to delete messages. Once I turned AIRPLANE mode off, and relaunched mail app, all emails were reloaded and I was kicked out.I have had no problems with mail app in the past in any fashion. Updating to 3.0 has locked me out of my most often used application.I have been searching forums and Google all day with no luck to anyone else stating this problem. the software was only released today, so perhaps not everyone has used each application throughly yet, or have not posted their problems.I have tried turning device on and off, hard reset, soft reset, power down, plugging in, syncing.the one HUGE problem I have is that I backed up before upgrading, BUT, Apple does not allow us to create NEW backups. So, without me knowing, when I hit SYNC to try to update, it overwrote my 2.1 backup. (Which by the way is so frustrating. Why can we not say create new backup, rename them, choose which back up to restore from?)Alas, I am stuck in purgatory with no access or clear idea how to proceed in getting mail running again.Has ANYone else had anything similar to this, or possibly found a work around?Your input is much appreciated,Cheers,E! All,Just pulled the OS 3.0 update. Features seem to work fine, but the update itself is very time consuming. restore doesnt restore everything iPhone 3G

My hard disk crashed the other day so I thought it wise to backup my iPhone. As all the information on my disk was lost I selected sync all applications and manually sync music and videos in the iTunes/iPohone presets. When I clicked on apply I saw that the iPhone started to erase my installed apps. So I interrupted the process. iTunes then proceeded to backup. Trying to find a way to establish the information that was on my iPhone on my Mac I thought I had to restore the iPhone and then resync. So I restored the iPhone and found that it only reinstalled the official apps in spite of having chosen the backup that I had previous to the restore. So now I have lost all my personal apps and all the music. (all the MobileMe info was re-established without any problem). How can restoring a backup be so confusing and unreliable ?
