Poor battery life iPhone 5

My iphone 5 has the latest ios 6.1.3 and the battery life is hit and miss. The phone has been factory wiped in itunes and re set up. It sometimes will drop 50 percent on its own in a couple hours. If i do the home button and power reset on the phone the battery will report better. Maybe its a software glitch. I was also disappointed with the fact that i bought a high end home stereo and the iphone doesnt support the new apt-x codec yet their laptops do?  Why is this. Its no wonder apple stocks are falling. I have owned every iphone since the 3gs and really have not seen any real improvements other than processors and screens. Poor customizations, lack of ability to personalize the phone and really nothing to keep me with buying another apple. This is unfortunate as the hardware is great but the feature set just hasn't improved in 5 years. In fact i think it has gotten worse. Being a communications tech i used to use wifi apps for testing signal strength on installed accesspoints and those apps got stripped be ause of apples sdk or whatever it was. The slew of apps on the android market for this is staggering. Now i see that motorola, htc and samsungs are all supporting the apt-x codec but no apple. Gps apps are poor and apple maps for our area are black and whit and half are covered in clouds from the satellite view so you cant see the streets anyways. As a business phone the iphone is looking less imoressive day by day. As a music player its also now being outdone. I hope apple takes some of this to heart and really does something impressive to IOS 7 to restore faith in its fans. And maybe some day we will be able to use one of our songs for a ring tone instead of having to pay. My old cdma phone even had this ability.

Can't hear just one person through my iPhone 4

Okay, so lets see if this works. So I've had my iphone 4 for about a year and a half, I've never really had issues beside the normal glitching and having calls drop here and there. Recently I've had an issue with my iphone connecting with just one individual. Yes, I know it sounds weird but keep reading. I have been able to make calls and recieve phone calls fine, however I cannot with just one single individual. They to also only have the same problem with me, however the only difference is they can hear me but I cant hear them or anything. We're able to text and send picture messages without any issues. Now sometimes when I try to call them, itll ring twice and then the line just goes dead, but thats usually them picking it up. I cannnot hear them at all. I've already done the reset on my phone and I've already contacted apple about this issue and their about as lost as I am because it doesnt make sense that this is only happening with one individual. I've also blew out the speakers and such like people have suggested. I use my head phones that came with my speaker, and ive connected and reconnected them incase my iphone thought they were plugged in.  Let me give you a little bit more info. They have an android phone, we have the same carrier which is verizon and they live in another state (not sure if thats helpful). I'm completely lost because this has been going on for about 4 days now and its driving me crazy. This happened a few weeks ago, however it magically fixed its self ( im thinking it was because I had bad service). If anyone has any solutions that might help, please, please let me know.

Hello, I have previously used Shoutcast radio player on android and I liked the fact that it showed the name of the song playing.  I downloaded Shoutcast for my Iphone and that feature has been removed it seems.  So my question is this:  Is there a preferabley free music app that will allow me to search for my genre of music and play that station and list names of songs? My generes of music are Metallica Stations and Soundtrack Stations.  That's what I like to listen to mostly. So is there any app out there or am I stuck with Shoutcast until they update the app?   Thank you for your assistance

Accurate data app iPhone 3G

I'm new to the iphone; I switched from android.  I'm trying to find a data app similar to what I used on my old phone.  It would show me the data amount, allow me to put in the data limit and start date.  It would also show me the apps that were using the data.  The app was Onavo count I think.  I tried the iphone version and its not  the same.  It wants me to set up a VPN?-is that safe?  I just want a good data app that is accurate and allows me put in my data limit and start date -bill cycle date.  Is there an app free or paid; free hopefully that will do that? Thank you for your help.

Car bluetooth failed after recent OS 6.2 update iPhone 5

My car bluetooth (car is a BMW X5) has suddenly stopped working, immediately after my iPhone 5 updated its OS to 6.1. It all worked perfectly before the OS upgrade.  Have re-paired it, re-set everything - no good.  Any suggestions?  What happens is - the phone pairs with the car stereo, the car stereo answers the phone - but there's no sound. Can't hear anything - on the car stereo, on the phone, nothing. And before anyone asks - yes, I am using it correctly, and the car is selected in the phone settings and when the call comes through. I used it successfully for months - until the latest OS upgrade...  And then it stops.     6.0 was fine.  Why would 6.1 fail? Why would the 6.1 upgrade cause this to happen?    What have Apple changed in their bluetooth functionality for OS 6.1, that would make something that worked perfectly suddenly stop working after the 6.1 upgrade??  Why make these changes suddenly? Anyway, am very very annoyed.   I need to answer my phone in the car, for goodness sake!  Are you trying to make me get a blackberry or an android device, Apple?

Software issues in 6.1 with iPhone 4S

Anyone else having these problems? Since the release of ios 6 I have had problems with the sound cutting out randomly for several minutes, or as long as 2 days. I really don't think this is a hardware issue because I do not use a dock and I can tell the speaker still works because it will play my ringtones but I am unable to hear keyboard clicks, txt's, and music, sound in apps, ect.  And the sound slider completely dissapears In all apps except for the "sounds" tab in settings. I know my volume buttons work because you can see that in the sound tab as well. I have tried backing up to an earlier point in time as well as completely restoring as a new phone and neither methods have worked. I have also cleaned my dock connector repeatedly. It will work for about a second, just long enough to hear the unlock click, after restarting the phone, the. Goes away again. Which brings me to my next point. My phone will not turn off unless it is plugged in. If it isn't plugged in and I try to turn it on. The screen goes black for a couple seconds and then It turns back on. Now I don't want to just automatically assume that is a software glitch by apple but I don't know what else it is. If it is a software glitch apple needs to figure this crap out because I know I'm not the only one having this problem, and if it is in fact a hardware issue tell me how to fix it. I am not able to take it in to apple store because the nearest one is 3 hours away. Thanks apple and I hope we can fix this because I don't know how much longer I can handle not having sound for my alarm clock before I switch to android.

Awful Battery life on Iphone 5 with iOS 6.1.2

I bought a new Iphone 5 on Monday and the O.S. at the time was 6.0.2. the phone ran warm and battery life was bad, i installed and upgraded to iOS 6.1.2 and the issue still remains, very poor battery life I charged the phone all day and night, left to go to work and school, went from 100% at 8am and down too 48% at 12pm today with some light usage of spotify and one phone call..this is ridiculous don't tell me I have to keep charging my phone MIDDAY to make it last... Seriously apple very disappointed with the battery issue and I don't want to exchange to an android platform at this time but this may force my hand.

I bought a Iphone 4s from my friend with the sim card in it, and it still has his number in the phone. I have the serial number to it. The problem is that when I went to the sprint store, it said that the Iphone was either lost or stolen so I couldn't which my number from my old phone (android). So my friend that I text with occassionaly has left Apple for android (i know right?). Anyway, we had a nice little iMessage session going but now that she has continued texting me from her android, my iPhone insists on replying via iMessage and will not switch to text. I've deleted the thread, deleted her as a contact, restarted my phone, typed in just her number for the text, but alas, it still tries to send it as an iMessage.  solution? Anyone? Thanks

Need help backing up due to camera hardware problem iPhone 4S

Hi all (apologies this is so long - it didn't look that long when I typed it...) Am really hoping someone can help me out here. I bought a secondhand iPhone in November - it is still under warranty until next August so I can make a Genius appointment and should be able to get it replaced under warranty, but this phone has a lot of good memories and I get attached to stuff, so I'd like to try a few things before I get it replaced (plus, it still has its original front and back protective stickers on it!). On Tuesday night, the camera just stopped working. I had been using it that afternoon without a problem. I was looking up something online on it and then turned it around to take a picture of something and it looked like it didn't detect any light - the screen was just dark. It seemed to freeze, so I pressed the Home button and tried it again. This time it went black again, but then the shutter closed. It now does this constantly. I've noticed that it has a split second when I can change things on the screen - I can swap it to video, but then after that it completely freezes the app. I can swap it to reverse camera - which also completely freezes, but when I close the app and reopen it, it actually works. Just not front facing. I've tried most things I've read online - playing with settings, gently shaking the phone, gently tapping near the camera. Nothing works. Sometimes when I think it has frozen, it has gone to a screenshot of itself and I can swipe sideways to the previous photo. So, right now, my big problem is backing up my data. I know I have to back the stuff on it up before I make any changes. So I tried connecting it to my laptop (and it turns out that I don't seem to have ever connected it to my laptop before). It took forever for it to be detected, but it only gives me the option of setting it up as a new phone or using another backup. Obviously, if I do either, the files on my phone will be gone. All I really want to backup is the photos and texts. Notes would be good, but not essential. There were suggestions of just right clicking the iPhone and clicking Backup, but I only have the options of ejecting or restoring from backup. I've seen a few programs around but I don't necessarily trust them. My previous phone was an android and while I didn't like it, it had plenty of options on their app store to back up different parts of it. Do apps like this exist for Apple - I can't seem to find them - mainly photos and texts. Would love it if someone could help me figure out how to back up my iPhone. Any advice on the camera would be great, but I can't do anything about that without making sure my files are backed up

Ye Olde question of overcharging iPhone 5

So I finally took the jump and switch from android (my old Samsung Infuse) to a beautiful and amazing iPhone 5 - my experience thus far as been amazing and I can honestly say Apple has made a believer out of me - HOWEVER, all this Li-Ion battery guff has got me very paranoid. I must admit, like most android users, I was laxidasical with charging my android because I knew if the battery ever went belly-up, I could just swing over to my local AT&T store and pick up a new battery for $25, no problem. Now with the iPhone, thats a different story entirely.  I know people have been arguing over this question since the era of Sodom and Gomorrah, but has any consensus been reached? - Is it okay to charge the iPhone 5, whenever I want to? - If it hits 100% should I unplug it, or is it safe to leave it there? - If I am spending a day at home (like a full 12 hour day) should I leave it plugged up? And for all those who answer "Unplug it after it hits 100%" won't that just waste the charge cycles? Can't you just keep it at 100%and only use a charge cycle when you need it? (I.E. go out) Sorry to be a stickler about this, but I am by no means a wealthy man and I wish to keep my shinies intact!  - Thank you

Is there a way to delete cache/cookies/temp files without deleting the app and reinstalling the app? For instance, Facebook. App size is 30.1, but overtime is has increased to 355MB.  On my old android phone, I had the option of going into settings and clearing the cache or just clearing data. I'm just wondering if there's a way to do this on my apple iPhone. I don't want to jailbreak my iPhone, so I was wondering if there's another way to get some data cleared from various apps without having to delete and reinstall them.  Thanks!

Cannot add music from iTunes on MB Pro to iPhone 4s FYIIt's onlysame laptop I've used with this phone

I cannot add any music to my iPhone 4s from my MB Pro in iTunes. This is the only laptop that I have used with this phone, so that isn't the issue. When I try to "manually" add music, the playlist drags 'n drops, but stays gray and never shows up on the iPhone.  I can sync my iPhone and wipe all the music I do have on it and add all the music from my MB Pro, but I don't want ALL that music. Regardless of what I do, it seems all iTunes will let me do is sync it.  Based on the other archived discussions, this is an ongoing problem with Apple and a total PIA at that. We pay a premium for these machines and phones, but they no longer seem to play as well together as they used to. I've had an iPhone since they came out, however, I must say that my next smart phone very well could be an android based device...

Iphone 5 and IOS 6.0.2 draining my battery new thread

Well, apparently Apple doesn't want us to talk about this -- They locked the previous forum I had created after 217 posts and 16k views? I'll assume there is some other Apple Forums rule that I don't know about that would cause them to do that instead of trying to stifle the reporting of this problem?  It was clearly generating many posts that show a correlation between IOS6.0.2 and battery issues. To summarize... I was having significant WiFi issues on all my apple products (several Iphone 4's and and Ipad2) with 6.0.1 - all the same issues that have been reported on these forums thousands of times.  I was excited to see 6.0.2, hoping it would correct the wifi issues for my iPhone5, at least. Unfortunately, not only did it NOT correct my wifi issues, but now my battery is draining about 5x compared to before.  I can barely get through a day of batterly life with minimal usage whereas before 6.0.2 I was easily able to go 2+ days.  An apple representative called me today (actually he tried very hard to call me for several days.)  I was appreciative of the reachout (saw my other post) and was hopeful they would be willing to help me.  The guys was very nice, but it truly felt like he was reading a script and was more interested in getting information from me.  The only advice he ad for me was to back up my phone and then reset it to factory settings (like new) without using any of my previous apps, mail, etc.  He wanted me to do this "for a day or two" to test it and see if the problem persists.  Then, if the problem is gone, we can work together to restore apps/settings one-by-one until we find why the problem is there.  In other words, they have no idea what is causing this problem, and they want to use my time to help them figure it out.   Ironically, I was able to watch my battery indicator drop several percentage points while I was on the phone with him for about 20 minutes.   When he asked if I would do the restore and/or load profile software on my iphone to track my usage, I said no.  I shared with him I'm simply out of time and energy -- I have logged over 40 hours trying to debug these wifi issues (I'm somewhat tech savvy and figured I could just plow my way through to a solution with my router/security settings.)  When I realized that these issues are all IOS driven, and now the battery issues, I find I've had enough. Maybe I'll go return this Iphone5 and ask for a replacement.  However, I'm also seeing other posts saying that did not solve their problems. We are talking about wifi and battery life.  This is not new technology.   If IOS 6.1 doesn't correct these issues, it's probably time to buy an android. Please keep posting things directly relevant to BATTERY issues with iPhone5 so that this thread can stay on task and bring to light the correlation between 6.0.2 and the battery.  Maybe Apple will care about their loyal customers, acknowledge the issue, and let us know how much longer we should wait for 6.1 to fix the issue before it's too late and they start losing their fan base.  No information from Apple is only exasperating the problem.

6.01 to 6.02 issues new thread iPhone 5

Since Apple closed the last thread about downgrading to 6.01 and associated issues with 6.02 here is a new one as my saga continues.  I was a downgrader to 6.01 from 6.02 after horrid battery and cellular data usage under wifi in 6.02.  72MB cellular usage at home, strong wifi, overnight for no reason and drained to 60%. However last two nights under downgrading to 6.01 I have gone to sleep at 100% charge (just unplugged from charger) at Midnight and awake at 9 am with a drainage to 60%.  What?  What is sucking 40% battery at home, under wifi, during the night?   In desperation I have upgraded again to 6.02 and have done after said upgrade a complete ph reset to a new setup and then restored the phone from itunes from my backup.  Third time lucky Apple....  Apple...Apple.... Apple.......... please don't force me to android and MS. I'll keep a daily 'nightly' report of my battery issues here and any other issues i have with 6.02 for others to compare. Cheers

How I stop downloading from Apps Store when not on Wifi iPhone 3G

I started downloading from Apps Store when at home connected to wifi but then left house when download was still in progress. It has used up 80mb of my monthly allowance today !!!  Is there a setting, like there is on android, where it will only download from Apps when connected to wifi please? This is a major defect if there isn't!Thanks

Iphone 5 and IOS 6.0.2 draining my battery

Beware IOS 6.0.2!!   I loaded IOS 6.0.2 yesterday.  Unfortunately it only partially fixed my wifi issues (I already have several posts about my wifi issues).  But, to my complete and utter frustration, it introduced a NEW ISSUE I was not having before -- it is absolutely draining my battery.  I can usually get through a day with about 75% of my battery power remaining.  Today I've gone through 90% and I've done nothing special with it.   Come on, Apple!  I know you guys have to be reading these posts.  You are driving your loyal fan base away.  I'm ready to get my money back and switch to android.  The time (hours-and-hours spent trying to debug my problems) and money do not seem worth it any more.

Verizon iPhone 5 not connecting to 4G network

Switched from a 4G android to iPhone 5 today on Verizon.  In places where I was always able to get 4G coverage on my android, my iPhone 5 only connects to the 3G network.  Anyone else experiencing this?  Any tricks or workarounds?  Haven't called VZW yet to ask about it.

Safari Mail apps keep crashing iPhone 4

I need help!!! I'm not smart in technology... After updating iOS 6.01 about 5 weeks ago on my iphone 4 then I tried to jailbreak but its not ready.. Problem with voicemessages via What sApp iPhone 3G

Why can I STILL not buy an iPhone without contract iPhone 5

Since it came out, I've been trying to legitimately buy an iPhone 5, without a contract. (I simply don't want to be under the hammer of AT&T for 2 years) Here I am willing, no begging, to give Apple my $750+ dollars for their phone. But every time I'm told they won't sell phones without contracts.  I just can't understand why, aside from them bowing at the almighty alter of AT&T, this would be the case. The employees are so unhelpful with this, so I figured I would ask around here if anyone knows how it can be done before I say screw it and go look for another phone. I dislike android, but I what I dislike even more is being d*cked around with.

iPhone 5 on ATT and texting Sprint user problems

My friend cannot receive SMS texts from me, nor can I from them.  I have an iPhone5 on AT&T network, he's on Sprint using an android phone.  I have iMessage activated with my phone number and my email addresses.  I tried shutting off imessage, and restarting my phone, but neither of us are receiving our texts from each other. Is this a hardware/software issue you've been able to troubleshoot?  Is this a network issue between AT&T and Sprint? Any help is greatly appreciated.

I just purchased my second iPhone 5, the first one had freezing problems, and also the messaging problem this one has.  This current iPhone 5 has iMessaged checked and has my phone number +1 (954) *** - **** next to it. Looks like it should all work right? Wrong. Basically, I can message everyone else but one contact with the iMessages. For now we can call them "p1".  I recently upgraded from and android Epic 4g, to this iPhone 5. Everyone else I message who has an iphone, will work properly and instantly. However, with p1, my messages will send as an iMessage and show as blue, but won't be "Delivered" and on the computer iMessages it says it was delievered. Well, this person can send me an iMessage back and I won't recieve it on the phone or the computer. Something is definately acting up here, and I am not quite sure.

Iphone 5 quality complaints iPhone 4S

I guys, I'm living in Sydney. I love Apple products because they look very sleek and beautiful but I do have somethings I don't like about Apple.  I feel like Apple's product quality is going down since the iphone 4. Apple iphones' problem does not appear to be major but there are tiny small defects that come with different iphones. I have been Apple fan since I bought myself an iphone 4. That was also when I start experiencing frustration with Apple products such as dead pixels, yellow tint screen, small scratches right out of the box, loud noisy vibration on iphone 4s, loose button and tons of other minor defects. Even-though those tiny little defects wont affect me using the phone but it makes me feel like cheap phones, assembled negligently, feel I paid for a second hand phones. Those are just my personal experiences and my personal opinion, I might be wrong. Do not judge me on this. To make my opinions more justifiable, the following is my most recent story with Apple, the latest iphone, the iphone 5.  I have got my brand new iphone 5 two days ago, I was so excited until I saw a dead pixel near the bottom left of the screen after an hour of playing. I immediately booked an appointment at genius bar, the genius guy swapped me a new iphone 5 from a white box (not sure if it was a refurbished phone or not). I spent a few minutes on checking the new phone and i found a dead pixel again near the top left of the screen. I was like very angry, I asked the genius guy to replace me a brand new phone sealed in the box and he was like ok, he said he will call me later in the next few days to come to pick up a brand new phone and return the current one because they don't have the phone in stock atm. So now I'm still using the defective phone and waiting for their call. If the brand new phone that I will get has any other problem, I would definitely ask for refund.  I know Apple customer service is great, they give you a replacement unit if your one is defective but that's might not work if they keep replacing you new phones and you keep having new problems with replacement phones. It's like running in a circle and never end. Having this type of service is great but I think it must collaborate with good product quality control. Once the phone is replaced with a new phone, the new phone is expected to be defects free and able to be used for a long term.  Myself as a customer would feel very happy in the first time after Apple gave me a new replacement phone but who knows the new phone will have potential defects. If I didn't check the replacement phone, I would have walked home with the problem and it will waste me another appointment schedule in the future when I discover that dead pixel on the screen. Eventually, my message to Apple is that their product quality control is really bad. If they don't improve their quality control, customer will keep bringing back their items and Apple will keep replacing new ones. That will be wasting Apple's resources and customers' time. Personally, replacing a unit once or twice and problems are gone is great but going back to genius bar a few times a week or a month is frustrating! That wastes my time. I have been running in the circle not only with the iphone 5, also with iphone 4, iphone 4s, ipad 2. Each one of them has various problems. If Apple don't improve their product quality in the future, maybe one day I will shift to another platform such as android no matter how good their customer service is and how great their softwares are.
