To avoid extra charges when I travel, do I turn on airplane mode?  Will that automatically turn of voice and data roaming?  Should I leave wifi on?

My iPhone 5's Data roaming is set to off but I am seeing on my bills that I am having some data roaming. Not much, 2000-4000 kb's per month. Can anyone tell me why this is happening?  Sprint can not answer my question, but I really didn't think they would since no one there can give a straight answer.

How I avoid an automatic downloaded of IOS or app upgerades on an iPhone

Is there a possiblity to avoid, that the new ios (or any other app upgrade) is downloaded automatically? During a business tripp abroad (roaming), my international volume limit of 150 MB  was reached after 3 days. Seems as if the ios was downloaded. I did not install it but it seems, as if the software is already on the device I would like to avoid, that any app is really downloaded on my device automatically. Disabling data transfer during roaming is no option, since receiving emails and using the internet shall still be possible

iphone 4s having so many problems after upgraded to IOS 6.1

Hi! My husband's iphone 4s was in roaming configuration for 15 months.  He recently got home and he then upgraded his software to IOS 6.1, problems star to pile up!  His signal was becoming unstable, he cannot be contacted even there is a signal provided by his carrier.  Another is, whenever he makes a call, he can hear the other line but the one he's calling cannot hear him then the line will instantly cut.  Battery life also becomes a pest! Even if you don't use the mobile, the battery keeps on deteriorating on a high speed.  How can we fix it? thanks!

I have a question. Will iPhone 5 (A1428) Will Work on USA (T-Mobile, Cincinnati Bell Wireless), Canada (WIND Mobile, Mobilicity, Videotron), Chile (VTR, Nextel)?. I especially interested on vtr carrier in Chile, the don't have offcialy iPhone 5, but I used two iPhone4 sice last year, vtr has a AWS network and a roaming service with Movistar (GSM), my iPhone is from Entel (GSM).  If I buy an iPhone in Chile (Movistar, Claro, Entel) I think, I will buy A1429. If I bought throught Apples Store I'll receive A1428, I want to know if it will work on vtr's AWS network.

Hi A number of a iPhone 4S's bought on the grey market in a certain Asian country don't seem to work on all networks when the owners are roaming in another country. Our telco has confirmed roaming is available and it does work in some countries but not all. Do some telcos bar grey market iPhones from working on their networks or is it something in the iPhone itself doing the blocking? Thanks

Running Very Hot and Horrible Battery Life iPhone 5

I have had two iPhone 5's now (swapped out the first w Apple Care for the same reason) and BOTH run very hot and have horrible battery life.I typically let it charge overnight and at 7am when I leave for work it is 100%. Then by noon on most days it has run out.It gets very hot and the battery rapidly drains (losing roughly a percent of power every three minutes).When I attempt to re-charge it in the car or on the adapter it is slow to re-charge (or cant make ground against whatever is draining the battery so fast).On the first phone, for the first three weeks I had it, it ran great. A full charge would last two days. Then it started this behaviour right after the upgrade to 6.0.1I tried a restore. Apple Care said there was a runaway process related to getting my mail using activesync with my company's Exchange server.I disabled PUSH mail for that account to FETCH every 15 minutes and still the problem persists.On the replacement iPhone I left it at 6.0 in case 6.0.1 was the culprit.No dice - from the moment I got it, it started to exhibit the same behaviour. Once that was the case I upgraded to 6.0.1 and it still acts the same way.So the odds of two phones with two bad batteries seems low.However, there is obviously something in the iOS or software stack that is causing this issue. However, I cannot narrow it down.I leave BT and Wi-Fi always on, but I always did before this started happening.

Map GPS worked great even with no cell signal iPhone 3G

With all the complaining about Apple Maps I thought I should report my great experience.I have been traveling between Utah, Arizona, Nevada and California visiting some national parks. In most of these parks and often on the road between them, there was no cell signal. Despite this I was able to use my iPhone 5 maps to give me turn-by-turn direction from door-to-door despite having no signal.I first had to have the map prepare my itinerary with a data signal. Once it was done, I would turn off the "data roaming" (as I have a Canadian supplier and don't want to run crazy charges). Then I would get clear directions all the way with no data and often with no cell signal. It was a great help and made the trip relax.The key is to have a data connection when you start the trip. Just thought I'd share this.

2 major problems with my iphone 5, 1. Connecting to 3G networks...when moving from either being connect to wifi or in an area with poor coverage the phone will not attach to the 3G when available. The symbol lights up stating that device is attached but no data comes through. Only way to resolve is to restart the phone. This problem is worse when roaming overseas where the device will not connect to any data network! All phone and carrier settings have been checked and rechecked. Device has been factory reset etc. 2. Battery life..a lot WORSE than on my 4S.

Actually on 4G devices like the iPhone 5 you should never dial *228. To update the roaming list just restart your phone and/or remove the sim and then restart your phone. In some cases *228 can mess up roaming settings on a 4G device.

How I fixed my short battery life on iPhone 5 and activesync problems at same time.

For anyone still having activesync or battery problems I have a potential fix: I've had two issues lately.   First, my battery life was draining at an insane rate.  iPhone5 lasted about 3-4 hours before absolutely dead from a full charge.  LTE disabled, WiFi disabled, icloud turned off...about as power efficient as I could make it, and I was hardly using it at all.  I was losing 1% batt every 2-4 minutes.   I solved this problem by removing my work account (Exchange activesync) from my mail accounts.  Obviously I couldn't stay like that for very long, so after confirming it stemmed the battery issue, I tried to add it back.  Did a bunch of different methods and tests, and what ended up working for me was: Remove ALL accounts (Had Exchange, gmail, icloud) hard reset the phone.  After it came back up, I reset the Network Settings just for good measure.  In Mail control panel, make sure "Default Account" doesn't have an old mail account listed (option may be not even present if you've removed all accounts, but I was having issues earlier where even though I'd removed accounts, it kept listing them in the Default Account/Calendar sectionsAdd the AccountOpen MailIt actually took a min or two to start populating data, I didn't think it had worked, so give it a few minutes. My battery life issue seems to be fixed, and my activesync account works again.  I've been off the charge for about 4h 40m now, and battery is at 90%, and that's with moderate usage on LTE. Hopefully this helps out anyone having similar issues.  For what it's worth, I removed/readded my Exchange account several times and it never worked until I had removed all accounts (my iCloud account was the last one to be removed), so if possible, just remove everything.  I had already restored, DFU'd, and tried several other steps.  This was what worked for me. I have NOT added my iCloud account back yet, but will be doing this now to see if any issues reappear.

LTE data not working on Verizon iPhone 5.

Why doesn't my LTE data work ?? I just got this phone release day with a data plan . I started using my phone once I got home and connected to wifi might this be the reason ?? I didnt use my phone till i connected to wifi . My LTE is enabled . Cellular data and roaming is enabled ... What's going on . Hi, I have an iPhone 4S with iOS 5.1.1 I ALWAYS have data roaming turned off as I travel a reasonable amount and don't want the charges.  All automatic downloads are also turned off. On a recent holiday to France the phone the phone decided randomly to download my emails at 3pm one Friday afternoon (after we'd been there for almost a week) - this totalled around 3MB and cost me around £10.00 This was the only time the phone did any downloads (it was in my pocket not being used at the time) - so it appears as if randomly for around 10 minutes one wet Friday afternoon the phone decided to ignore the data roaming switch and download my emails (and apparently nothing else). I have read some real horror stories online about this kind of thing but nothing where it just pops on and off.As I travel a reasonable amount I can't afford for this to keep happening. Does anyone else know about this?

I have a 4s on sprint and I would like to know how I can tell if it is roaming in voice and or data.  I have noticed it saying extended and a little circle by the carrier.  What does all this mean.  Also why if I have data roaming turned off, why am I still ble to access the Internet? I know it is somehow roaming, cause my bill says roaming data: .........kb......with a number other than 0 filled in.  Any help?

Iphone 4S can t send or receive MMS

New iphone 4S (16 GB, white) not sending or receiving picture messages. It worked for about a week after I got it and now it doesn't. I have MMS messaging turned on, cellular data on, data roaming on, and I tried it with iMessage both on and off but nothing works. I also tried resetting the network settings but no luck. Does anyone know how to fix this problem? Is it possibly an issue with the picture size? Picture messages send about 90% of the way and then I get the red exclamation point saying to retry. P.S. My carrier is verizon wireless.

Verizon iPhone not roaming

I am a Verizon customer, with an iPhone 4S. I don't live near Verizon towers so I roam off of a local cell tower called Golden State Cellular. When I have Verizon I am able to make and receive calls/texts. When I'm on the Extended{roam} network when I try to call someone it rings once and then a message comes up saying my phone number isn't recognized and I'm not an authorized user. My phone number is activated, I updated the PRL. When someone tries to call me my phone never rings, never says incoming call, or missed call. It rings on the other end like a few times then it'll say this person doesn't have their voicemail setup call again later. I've tried to setup my voicemail it's not letting me even when I'm on a Verizon tower. I have called Verizon, I've called Golden State and they just keep blaming eachother. I may call Apple to just see if they could help or something. I think it may be the iPhone itself and I'll try a restore on iTunes, I also think it could be the phone number. I don't know I've only had this phone and service for 3 days and no one is helping me or finding solutions. Please leave your input.

Why cant my iphone 4s send messages

My iphone 4s will not let me send any text message or mms. I can recieve message but i cant send any. I can make calls and recieve them too my only problem is that it will not let me send messages. Unable to send texts or calls on high signal iPhone

Well, I have a iPhone 4 that signed up to Sprint, and I've had this for 5 months and nothing happened. Now my iPhone is not sending text messages or sending calls. Even when my Sprint signal is high, it doesn't seem for the text messages to go through or heck not even the calling. Only when my iPhone is in Extended "roaming" it could send texts and calls. Is there any suggestions into solving this issue? Or do I need to replace this iPhone? I tried turning it off and on (didn't work), and Restoring the iPhone (still didn't work). please I need help on solving this problem.

I was recently roaming on my iphone 4, and was replying to a text when i saw the name at the top change to a number? A little later i tried to retrive a telephone number and the person that i was looking for was no longer there? Upon futher checking i found that a number of recently added numbers (back about 3 to 4 months) had also disapeared? I thought that it may have been something to do with roaming in another country, but back home now and contact have still not returned. About the same time back as above, i added a gmail (New job) account, and on checking in gmail i have found that the telephone numbers are also missing from my contact details within my gmail account, of the contacts that i set up since starting this account? Icloud is turned on and when i checked my hotmail account the contact information is stored there?  How do i get it back on my phone?

Using an Australian iPhone in America

Hi I have an unlocked iPhone and will be travelling to the USA from Australia in the next few weeks, staying for a few months. I want to use my phone in the States but I don't want to use global roaming as this will be extremely expensive. In most countries it's common practice to purchase a pre paid sim for use in the iPhone to use the local network (UK, Australia, New Zealand), I want to be able to do the same in the US but it seems that this may be difficult to do. I'm happy to join a monthly plan with calls, text and data, but also happy to go with the pay as you go day rates. T Mobile seems to have the right sort of plans and they appear to be geared up to help iPhone users from overseas, but I know I'll be on the slower EDGE (2G) network, so would prefer to use AT&T. Does anyone have any experience how to purchase a pre paid plan with AT&T that is straight forward. Most forums I've checked out indicate that it's a complicated process. Do the Apple stores in the States sell pre paid plans and help with the set up? Cheers

Hi Everyone, I am so disappointed to have lost my iPhone inside a hospital clinic and the worst thing is I have lots of personal data in it. I am not sure of there is a way to detect or track it because first the 3G is not turned ON because I brought it home in the Philippines where it is just in roaming mode. Could I still track it most especially the woman who stole my phone turned it OFF? Also, is there a very similar app available in the App store similar to IGotYa where I have just learned that is only available when an Iphone is Jailbroken? the IGotYa app actually takes a picture of a stranger who cannot unlock the iphone plus sends the picture to your e-mail and most importantly will not allow the robber to turn OFF the iPhone. sudden no service issue abroad iPhone

Hi, I have an iPhone 4s on Sprint. It's on 5.1.1 and I've used it internationally before. I'm in Hong Kong and I had service at the airport but at my hotel I have no service. Yet, everyone else with 4 and 4S has service here. I've tried network reset, I have no pin set, I've done the airplane mode trick, reconfirmed roaming settings are correct, etc.  I don't know how to proceed. I've emailed Sprint but due to the timezone difference I'm not within their operating hours.  Thanks for any thoughts.   I can't do an itunes restore because I'm on my work laptop using Ubuntu.

iphone 4S Wifi Drops and Refuses to Reconnect

Hi I think the content of this forum shows that there is clearly a problem with iPhone 4S / IOS 5.1.1 and Wi-Fi. But I have a slight variation on the theme and would appreciate any help anyone can provide, please. My Setup: I live in an awful house for Wi-Fi - not only is it spread-out, but it also has metal sheets laid across every floor to reflect under floor heat upwards and, of course, to kill Wi-Fi signal dead. To get decent coverage I have 1 wireless router and 3 access points all using the same SSID and password, but using different channels (separated as much as possible physically and by frequency). The four units are connected by wire (over the power lines). This setup has worked fine for several years. It still works fine for my iPhone 3G, iPad 1, iPad 3, Squeezeboxes, MacBook Air, laptop PCs etc. (I program and use this kit for testing as well as playing). But... The Problem: The Saturday before last I bought an iPhone 4S to upgrade to (as my trusty iPhone 3G was broken (I dropped it :-( )). The iPhone 4 connects to the Wi-Fi nicely (so its not a security issue) but drops out after a few minutes and then refuses to re-connect. I am current still testing, but I believe it also drops out if I move in the house from one AP's strong area to another's. I suspect it hangs onto the weak channel and refuses to change. If I walk back to the AP that I originally connected to it re-connects. I never had this problem with the iPhone 3G. I still don't (its repaired :-) ). And I am now testing by taking both phones with me as I roam about the house. Both phones are running IOS5.1.1 and the 3G works perfectly whilst the 4S drops out and throws a hissy fit. The Apple Solution The guys at the local Apple store are being sympathetic. So far I am onto my second phone, and I have a 'Genius' appointment in about an hour to switch to my third! Both the phones I have tried so far have behaved identically, so I am very skeptical that the third will solve the issue. The good news, of course, is that after I've burnt through a couple of hundred iPhones all of which do the same thing, Apple might actually think its worth exploring the issue properly. (If you do read this Apple people I don't want to waste your iPhones/time/money any more than I do my own - I just want to be able to get to the internet on the 4S like I can on my 3G). First question - does anyone know what's going on and can suggest a fix? Second question - does anyone know how to tell which Wi-Fi channel your iPhone is connected to? If I could find that information I could test my theory about the roaming not working. When making suggestions please remember that all my other devices work just fine, including my iPhone 3G which is physically touching the 4S that won't work. Therefore I may be a little sceptical if anyone suggests I upgrade the router (which I can't because its a Virgin one and updates automatically). Thanks for any suggestions (including router upgrades). Mike

I ordered a iphone 4s 32GB from Sprint during the preorder.  I have spent the last nine days calling Sprint and Apple tech support.  I was having trouble with my phone not ringing for some calls and the calls going directly to voicemail.  The other problem was that visual voice mail showed no messages.   I was told by Sprint technical support iphone specialist that I had a defective PRL 51082. The PRL needs to start with 520 or 610 for Sprint.  You can find your PRL by going to Settings>General>About>Carrier, Then Tap carrier and it will switch to PRL.  Sprint tech support said this is a known issue and effected preorder iphones. Replacement phones are on backorder....so I need to return the phone, cancel contract, cancel applecare+.  THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE, if you are having any kind of problems with your iphone4s check your PRL.  I was told that PRL stands for Preferred roaming List.

I am a Vodafone Egypt customer and I bought an IPhone 3G (at full price of unlocked phones) from them about 4 years ago, I knew it was locked but I didn't mind since I am using their service for like 14 years now and will continue to use it for years to come Now I've got a newer phone (factory unlocked this time ), however I sometimes need to use the old one with different carriers (usually when I travel abroad I carry two phones, the Vodafone Egypt (roaming) and any other phone for a local SIM. of course I know I can put the other card in my new phone and put Vodafone's in the old IPhone 3G, however that's too much inconvinience for me (The Vodafone line is my primary line and I need to keep it in the FAST new phone, especially they are giving me Global free data roaming ) I Contacted Vodafone Egypt to discuss this with them, and Vodafone Egypt responded they don't mind unlocking the phone (as an exception since they don't officially offer this option); however they said they don't have the software needed to perform the unlock, they suggested I should contact Apple directly and they will be more than happy to authorize the unlock if contacted by apple. Now Apple, can you help with this one ?

When I am near home, in my own country, my wife can use Find iPhone on her iPad to check where I am (with my iPhone) when I go out for long extended bike rides and she will normally do this in case I have a mechanical fault which cannot be fixed. It also gives her a decent ETA for my return. When I am holiday overseas, I want to do the same thing - she will be in the rental on a wireless network so will have no problems with internet connections, but I am going to have to turn international roaming data to 'on', on my iPhone to allow her to track me, but I don't want to be fleeced by the carrier, so I want to minimise the data usage while I am out on the bike. When I get back I can just turn roaming data to 'off' I guess the way to do this is to; turn my email accounts off completelyturn notifications offturn iMessage offturn iCloud offtrun Twitter off Is there anything else I should be doing so that just the FindiPhone App is using data ? TIA

Help iPhone won t text certain number

I have an AT&T iPhone 4. For some reason 2 weeks ago it suddenly stopped sending text messages to my boyfriend. At first it would delay them, first minutes and then hours. I don't know if me traveling would have affected this but I live in Maine and I flew to Virginia, it was fine the night before and while I was in Maine and then as soon as I landed in Virginia and was waiting for him it suddenly stopped sending him messages immediately. I thought it was maybe because I was roaming however the iPhone did not say such a thing. I did not think that it was just delaying it to his phone. When I returned however the problem persisted and only seems to affect the connection between his phone and mine. The weird thing is that texting works perfectly if we are on the phone together and I ask him to send me a text to see if it works. I have called AT&T already about this issue and it seems they are dumbfounded. I am very aggrivated as I text my boyfriend often. Please help me with any suggestions.Note: Yes, I have reset the network, AT&T reset my texting account from the looks of it, and I have modified his contact in my phone.

iPhone s unlock with Verizon Wireless

I have an iPhone 4S, running ios 5.1 and on the Verizon Wireless (US) network.  I recently bought a TruPhone international sim card for use overseas as Verizon's global roaming rates are criminal.  I met all the requiremnts to have VZW unlock the phone and contacted them. They tried of course to scam me into activating their ripoff international sim but eventualy agreed to unlock the sim card as they are required by US to do.  The problem is they told me that all they really do is send a request to Apple who then unlocks the phone through iTunes.  I followed their directions and synced the phone through iTunes but it hasn't unlocked.  I contacted VZW and they said there's nothing else they can do. They show my account as having been unlocked and blamed Apple.  truPhone confirmed that they are having troube with VZW Apple products as far as getting them unlocked.  This seems like tyical Apple proprietary control freak ********. Anyone else have this problem or any suggestions?  I'm travelling to SouthEast Asia in a few weeks an need this sim card to work.  Thanks

I have Sprint and with my old phone I was always able to send picture mail. I've call Sprint support several times and they can't do anything about it. I have my cellular data on as well as voice and data roaming. I've reset and rebooted it several times. What can I do?

Connected to wrong carrier iPhone 4

Wondering if anyone else has had this problem and provide some advise. My phone has been working great for the last year, and then sometime this weekend, it switched to a different carrier's network automatically. Now I can't find my carrier in the network page anymore. I have already contacted my cell provider and they have confirmed there are no service outages. And that I am being charged roaming for using the other providers network! I have reset all settings and done a full restore of the phone and it is still connected to the wrong carrier. If anybody has any insight it would be greatly appreciated.

I am facing major battery drainage problems while using my iPhone 4s  while roaming but do not have the same problem in home network

I have an iPhone 4 and im going on vacation soon.The hotel provides free wifi, but its in the bahamas so im going to get roaming charges. HELP!!! (NOT AIRPLANE MODE!!!!!)

form i can unlock my iPhone 4 with baseband 4.11.08 and used it on another country

Im leaving the U.S for 3 months and going to visit part of my family in Panama, so i really need my iPhone 4 for the bussiness and dont want to activate the roaming. Is there any form that i can unlock it?
