System graphics lack gradient iPhone 3G

There is a marked lack of gradient on system graphics and highlights, which manifests as solid tones and dithering. Other graphics (such as app icons) and antialiasing are not affected.
I currently have no way to show how it looks on the device, such a photo, as screenshots do not replicate the issue when viewed on external devices. If my description alone is enough to inform your understanding of what I am experiencing, or if I can provide further troubleshooting, please do not hesitate to reply with your input!
