i am reasonably new to the mac and i need to go on the road.
the problem i am having is that while my CONTACTS are synced via Address Book my EMAIL ADDRESSES are mostly on my Mac Pro (apparently because my ARCHIVED mail is located here). so this means that when i try to do an AUTOCOMPLETE from my LAPTOP or my phone it not only doesn't autocomplete but i have no way of retrieving this information short of (I would assume) connecting a clone of my Mac Pro to my laptop and /booting/ off this, or somehow repointing Mail to this set of data on the external clone of my Mac Pro.
does anyone know how to solve this?
can i EXPORT something from the MAC PRO and IMPORT it to the LAPTOP or to the iPHONE?
can i EXPORT and UPLOAD to somewhere and get everything to sync?
TIA
Assuming you have Address Book on your Mac Pro and that your laptop is also a mac with Address Book you should be able to export a combo vCard which contains all your contacts, then email them to your laptop and iPhone to import them there. To do this, do the following:
Open Address Book on your Mac Pro, click on a single contact to select it, go to Edit>Select All (Command-A) to select all contacts, go to File>Export>Export vCard, save this on your desktop.Send the file you saved to yourself as an attachment to an email.Open the email on your phone and tap the attachment to import the contacts there.Open the email on your laptop and double-click the attachment to import the contacts to Address Book there.
hi. thank you.
i think i did not word this well or i am not understanding.
i have moved from some other EMAIL client software (thunderbird and postbox) to MAC MAIL. as part of this migration i moved email data to my LOCAL FOLDER on my Mac Pro in Mac Mail.
it appears to me that the email addresses are in the PREVIOUS RECIPIENTS or some mac equivalent in some hidden file in MAC MAIL that lets these addresses autocomplete in MAIL. since this file does not seem to be the same on my Mac Pro, the autocomplete does not contain the same data. I constantly try to send an email from MAC MAIL on the laptop and have to go to the MAC PRO to type in the same info and it autocompletes on the DESKTOP but not on the LAPTOP.
i have all sorts of data exported from TB and Postbox (LDIF, CSV comma delimited etc) that i am waiting to see if i can import /somewhere/ to see if there is data in THESE databases that has not made it to MAC MAIL on my Mac Pro.
BUT the problem now is simply that the laptop and the desktop (and the iphone) don't seem to be communicating with each other in terms of the data on the MAC PRO.
I know there is something in LION where i can send some data from MAC MAIL to my ADDRESS BOOK but i have not seen anything documented on this and it seemed like it was not very well integrated just yet.
so the problem is twofold really.
1. how to get the email client to sync data across the computers.
2. how to get MAC MAIL to sync with ADDRESS BOOK.
i hope that makes sense because I have not found a solution and i need one...
Thanks and apologies if i am missing something or using the wrong terminology.

Sorry but I wouldn't know whether or how you could do that. You may want to post your question over in the Mac OS & System Sofware forum where they would have more expertise on this: https://discussions.apple.com/community/mac_os?view=overview. I don't believe the Mail app on the iPhone can inherit or sync autocomplete information from your other mac clients though; it generates its own autocomplete database as you address new email.

Reply something about syncing EMAIL addresses iPhone or Post a New Thread
