Sync with New OS iPhone

I apologize if this is a repeat question. I was not coming up with any useful information while searching.
I had a Windows build on my laptop for a year plus. I reformatted and installed a new Windows build. I have tons of pictures, contacts and the like within my iPhone. After I installed a fresh copy of iTunes and imported my iTunes music I went ahead and tried to sync my iPhone.
When I try and sync the iPhone I am told that it will need to erase itself because it is associated with another computer. I don’t want to lose my contacts or pics, etc. How can I backup all that important information pre-sync?
I don’t care about the Music as I already have that backed up.
Thank you so much!!

When you did the reinstall, did you Authorize your account in iTunes prior to trying to sync?

I did the iTunes installation right after I did the new OS installation. No, I did not authorize my account in iTunes prior to trying to sync. When you say “authorize my account” you mean log into iTunes with my iTunes account, correct?
If I do authorize my account in iTunes before the first sync with this new build are you thinking I will not be prompted to erase the iPhone?

Cool, thanks. So, if I authorize in this fashion then try to sync I should not be prompted to erase the iPhone? My contacts, etc. will simply backup to the PC via the iPhone like they did prior to the new build?
