My iPhone was stolen out of my car yesterday in just a few seconds. I was able to use the find my iphone app to track them down using my iPod. But, when I lost wifi signal on my ipod I went directly to a sprint store and told them what happen and displayed to them where my iphone was. They logged on find my iphone on their computer in the sprint store. They told me to lock it wipe it. I told them that I didn't want it wiped because it would reset the phone thinking it wouldn't be able to be tracked. They chose to hit the wipe on their computer anyway without me being aware of it and told me to continue tracking and when I see that the thieves is in one place for a period of time then call the police and give them the coordinates so they can confiscate the device. When I left the sprint store and went back home using my wifi to find my iphone, I noticed that it hasn't moved since I left the sprint store. Then I discovered it was wiped at the sprint store and realized that it couldn't no longer be tracked. I spoke to sprint about this and they told me its nothing they can do about this and told me that I would have to pay full price of $750 for a new one, $350 to cancel my contract, or I will still be build for my remaining 18 months which my bill is always $95+.
I also contacted apple and that stated that sprint should have never wiped it, it's not up to them to make that decision. Apple also told me their was nothing I can do. I cannot afford to pay for a new phone. I have already invested so much into it. I use my phone to do school assignments, shoot music videos, music production on the go, just plain business. This is really a bad situation for me. Im stuck in a contract with a company that caused me to lose my phone on the map so I cannot have the police to go get it. But yet sprint still want their money because it's a contract. My opinion is that sprint may have unlimited but the company itself needs to know what they doing. I actually seen the person who took it as i went pass the last place they were at. but i'm not stupid he was surrounded by his peoples and i'm not going to get killed over no phone. thats why i wanted to track it and report it to the police. i feel that spring owes me another iphone if i still have to be locked in on a contract. especially since its their fault why i can no longer trace it.
so with all of this being said, what options do i have? SMH
iPhone 4s 32g White
5 months with sprint and never missed a payment.
there have to be something that i can do. the phone was still brand new and well kept with no scratch every to touch it. the serial number has to be able to trace if someone tries to activate or change something because it is a contract phone.
You need to file a police report, claim with insurance, if you have home owner's/renter's insurance, and if Sprint continues to give you the same response, talk to a lawyer about this. That will end up costing as much as the contract and/or new iPhone but gives satisfaction of getting out of the contract since they are at fault.

During all of this have you ever reported the theft to the police? If not, do so.
You can check your car insurance to see if the theft is covered and get a new one.
You can call Sprint and ask to talk to someone in customer service and register your complaint.
You can pay the ETF and get a subsidized phone with a different carrier.
