SMS problem iPhone

Recently (last few weeks) Ive started having a problem with incoming texts. Namely, if I send a message to multiple recipients, when one of those recipients replies, it shows up in my list of SMS simply under <name> + 8 others, i.e. all replies from ANY of those 9 recipients simply appear under <name> + 8 others, not under each repliers own name.
This has only started recently, previously it worked fine - if I sent a message to multiple recipients, each recipients reply was listed under their own name.
I should add that the little SMS preview shows the single persons name correctly, its just under the main SMS list that all replies get lumped together

Just realised that what I wrote might not be easy to understand, so heres an example.
Lets say we send a message to Bob, Ian, Paul & John saying What time?
In our SMS list on the phone we expect to see 1 entry sayin Bob + 3 others or whatever.
Lets say John replies with 3 oclock. We expect to see another entry in our SMS list with just John. And so on. 1 entry for each person who replies.
My problem is I dont get an entry with John. Johns reply simply gets added to the thread under Bob + 3 others. Now if the others reply with 4 oclock, 5 oclock and 6 oclock, say, I end up with just 1 entry in my SMS list, under Bob + 3 others with the 4 replies of 3 oclock, 4 oclock, etc, and I have no idea which person sent which reply!
