Okay, wasnt sure where this would go since its related to MACBOOK, IPHONE 4 and ITUNES, but it seems the issue is regarding when playing tunes from my IPHONE (USB connected to my MACBOOK) in ITUNES. The issue is that I can play and see all my songs on my IPHONE through ITUNES on my MACBOOK, but I can only play the songs in order not shuffle. I know where the option for shuffle on ITUNES, but the text is light gray (not black) like other options that can be changed? Is there something I am missing? I just want to play my songs from my IPHONE on my MACBOOK PRO in shuffled order rather just alphabetical order?

The songs should be on your computer as well as the iphone. Listen to the songs from your computer, then you can shuffle them.

Okay, I guess that I wasnt clear. I just bought the MACBOOK. The songs were on my IPHONE. I havent transferred them to my MACBOOK, and not interested in doing that right now! I just connected my IPHONE to my MACBOOK (USB). Itunes detects the device. And it lists all the songs, and I can play them in alphabetical order, but for some reason, I cant use the shuffle or repeat options? Its light gray under CONTROLS, yet the option to increase/decrease volume is available.
