safari disappeared after syncing with itunes iPhone 3G

Go into the search screen. Try it then and see if you can find it. It is an iOS app and cannot be deleted. You can try a reset, hold the sleep/wake and home button together until you see the Apple logo, if that doesn't bring it back, you can try to reset the home screen. It might also have been inadvertanly moved to a folder.
