my iphone 4 : some apps work normal on 3G and Wifi and some don't. will resetting to default help?

All this started since I update to 5.1.1. - What will happen to all my contacts and sms's?

Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings.

Basic troubleshooting from the User's Guide is reset, restart, restore (first from backup then as new). Try each of these in order until the issue is resolved.
