Hi,
I have just purchased an iPhone 4s after upgrading from an ancient Nokia. Obviously there are many things better on the iPhone, however I seem to be having trouble with managing photos.
On the Nokia I just connected it to my PC (Windows 7), a removable drive appeared and I could copy pictures off the phone, but importantly back to the phone *and* organise them.
With the iPhone I do get a removable drive but it only shows pictures in the camera roll and it is read only, meaning I can't upload wallpapers or whatever.
I did figure out how to sync with iTunes some or all photo folders (that then become albums), but you cannot then delete or manage those albums on the iPhone, nor can you re-download them as far as I can tell.
So my questions are:
If you sync pictures up to the phone and then loose the pictures off your pc, how do you sync them back down? Do they get deleted by iTunes? How can you organise pictures on the iPhone which where not taken by the camera? How can you stop the Photo Library showing all albums? How do you hide or otherwise "protect" certain albums? If you are showing your grandparents some nice scenic shots, you may not want them to accidently see your depraved holiday pics as you are swiping through them!
It seems weird that Apple is pushing themselves as very user friendly and iProducts as media hubs, but some very simple and basic stuff seems to be missing. Are there plans to add the above functionallity?
Or am I just missing something very obvious?
Thanks!
Some answers:
If you sync pictures up to the phone and then loose the pictures off your pc, how do you sync them back down? Do they get deleted by iTunes? You can't transfer photos synced from your pc back to your pc using iTunes. You have to use an app like PhotoSync or more expensive 3rd party software to do that.
How can you organise pictures on the iPhone which where not taken by the camera? You can't, you have to organize them on your computer, then sync them to your phone
How can you stop the Photo Library showing all albums? You can't. All the photos synced from your computer are actually in Photo Library; the albums only contain links to these photos.
How do you hide or otherwise "protect" certain albums? You can't.
Are there plans to add the above functionallity? No one here would know that. We're all just users like you.

There are a number of apps for managing photos that are better than the built in one. I use MyPics, which syncs with Google Picasa. There are similar ones for other "cloud" photo managers.

Hey, I just looked at my phone, not sure if your exact answer but.. you can go to your "Photos", when it opens It shows "Albums" at the top, then "camera roll", shows up. Click EDIT at top and you can add photos to a new named album. This was on the phone, not in iTunes. I am looking up other issue about it and a back up! But the photos only show up as an external drive, (but internal on you iPhone) & not in your iTunes. I pop pictures off and on my phone all the time. Hope I helped a little, as it is so non-computer-literate!
