It takes about 5 seconds for the screen to respond to any touch. Also 4/5 times that I try to open an app, it will open the app up for 5 seconds, freeze, and then close the app. This makes it extremely hard to get any functionality out of my phone at all.

Basics from the manual are restart, reset, restore.  Try those.
