My iPhone camera not working

Hello,

My iPhone camera quit working.  After restarting the phone, the camera works for a few seconds and then freezes, with a couple of violet vertical translucent bars in the picture.

Could it be a software of hardware problem?  Do i need to send in my phone for service?

I have already restarted the phone several times and have already restored the phone through iTunes with no success.
