I've checked for lint in the dock and neither liquid sensor is tripped. I've tried three different cables, three different outlets, two different wall chargers, as well as trying through my MBP. I also tried a forced restart in case there was some juice on reserve, even though it was at just 2% last time I had it on. My computer also doesn't even recognize it plugged in. I tried the same cables and chargers and outlets and my computer with my iPad2, and there's no problem there.
What else can I try? I have to leave very in the morning for a loooooong drive, and need my GPS, or else I am screwed.
You're not going to like this but it sounds like a bad battery in the iPhone.
That said have you tried connecting to your computer in recovery mode? Start iTunes, connect the USB end of the cable (one of your collection), then while holding the home button connect the dock connector to the iPhone. If all goes well iTunes will recognize the iPhone.
If not we're back to the first statement that it sounds like a faulty battery. When you have tried charging, how long did you leave it on the wall outlet? More than a couple hours?
I tried recovery mode, and nothing. I've been trying to charge my phone all day long, leaving it plugged in for a few hours at a time.
I absolutely do not have the money for a new battery. Every dollar I have is going to medical stuff that's not optional. This may be where I'm forced to move away from Apple and go back to a dumbphone.
