my iMessage keeps turning off automatically. What am I doing wrong iPhone 3G

This is happening to me as well. I had it working just fine on my iPhone4 then got it working on my iPad2. It is still working on the iPad but now won't stay turned on with my iPhone. I try to turn it on and all I get is the screen shot below. Any ideas?

I'm getting that as well.

I updatd my iphone 4 to ios 5 and had the problem with the encrypted backup that I never encrypted. So I had to install as a new phone. At this point iMessage seemed to be okay.

I eventually figured out how to 'unencrypt' my backup (create a new password with your current backup, and that works for the old backup!). So I reinstalled my backup and that's when my iMessage was showing like the screen cap. If I can't figure this out by tomorrow, I'll head over to my local apple store and see if they can help.

If you've turned off FaceTime, it will turn off iMessage. I turneed Facetime back on & iMessage automatically came back on.
