More Podcast syncing help needed iPhone 3G

Argh, this is really doing my head in.
Last week I posted about itunes removing podcasts from my iphone when I plugged my iphone in to my work pc (not my main itunes library pc).
I was told to turn of podcast syncing on itunes which I did.
I just downloaded a load more podcasts, plugged it in, itunes opened, it still went through the syncing and backing up motions and now the podcasts have disappeared off my iphone again, despite podcast syncing being switched off.
The podcasts are still appearing under the Podcast tab in the iphone screen on itunes, but disappear from the ipod after connecting.
Why does it keep doing this??? Why do they make it so complicated?
