itunes and usb showing on screen iPhone 3G

I am getting the same thing on an old non jaiilbroken phone.

when I tunes starts it says found phone in recovery mode and must  restore.. 2/3 the way it give error unknown with number 29>

now the usb pointing to itunes is back.

there are tones of notes online and just wondering if anyone here has seen a fix... ?
