Iphone thinks it's on dock iPhone 4S

Speakers wont play sounds, and no volume bar appears for music without headphones.

There's no water damage, thats been checked by apple.

I've done all the obvious things ie.

Factory reset.

Restart

Off/On

Plugging it into a dock then removing it.

cleaning the jacks as best i could.

The phones only two weeks old this is quite annoying for a £700 handset.

Apple want me to wait a week for someone to properly look, does anyone have any experience with this issue that could kindly shine a light on it please?
