i dropped my iphone 4s off the side of my bed and the screen smashed, i had a silicone case on it and it is still in warranty, whats the chances of apple helping me out? im in the UK thanks

Slim to none. They will offer you an out-of-warranty replacement for a fee. If you bought AppleCare+ for a smaller deductible you get two breakage replacements.

Sure it is, it went out of warranty once it slid off your bed and smashed the screen. A warranty is not insurance, it covers manufacturing defects, not accidents. For that you need insurance.
