My 4S continues to run warm-hot and the battery drains within a couple hours of charging.
I have combed these forums as well as the web, followed every suggestion posted about turning off services, etc. nothing helped so I finally, reluctantly scheduled an appointment at the Genius Bar...the genius wiped othe phone of its contents (I'd made backups) and handed the phone back to me to do the restore over iCloud...which only does a partial restore. But whatever.
Genius told me that should fix the problem since the battery seems to be functional and it is not a hardware problem but something in the software. Wow!
Anyway, four hours after the genius experience the phone is hot again and battery draining.
Genius also told me that if it continues they 'might' give me a new phone but the same problem will recur.
Help? I guess...
I have sunken to the lowest level in the genius experience so I am open to any suggestions.

There is an app on your phone that is sending data or trying to send data and failing. Restore the phone as New; do not restore your backup. Before adding anything see if the problem is still present. If it is your phone is defective. If the problem is gone then there is some naughty app on your phone. Add apps back a few at a time.
It also raises the question...I have more or ess tha same apps on my iPad and iPad2...how ome those on't drain? Does this mean it has to do with the phone side of things?....hmmm
The problem may not be the app, but corrupt data in the app. Or it failed once and wasn't smart enough to give up, and it just keeps trying again and again.
