I recently upgraded my iPhone 3GS to 5.0.1 . Until now, it had been working flawlessly for 1 year and 8 months, but today, when it's battery died and caused it to shut down, upon recharge, I got the USB symbol into iTunes.....thus requiring a factory restore.
Ive had my 3GS battery die almost a hundred times before, and get the spinner, but this is the first time it didn't just power right back up after charging.....so is this a bug with 5.0.1, and maybe just with 3GS????? I hope an offical Apple employee reads this, and I may call 800-MY-IPHONE to report the bug, but I don't have applecare anymore.
I luckily had a recent backup to restore from once the factory restore completed, but it put me in a bad situation as I was awaiting several important phone calls and texts and had to leave the house (didn't have time to sit by my computer). I assume backing up to iCloud would present the same issue, as my iPhone needed the factory restore FIRST.
NOT A HAPPY ABOUT THIS BUG or whatever it is......
Now I gotta wait for 31 GB of data to resync, and I lost my texts within last 24 hours or so, etc
Hi, I don't have a reply to your question. Sorry.
But exactly same thing happened to my iphone 3gs. I would like to know what did u do to get your phone to work? Thanks in advance!
you've gotta do a factory restore then restore from any recent backups when it's in recovery mode. If you don't have a recent backup or have important data not backed up still on the device, there is 3rd party software that may recover the device data. just search google.
Here's the apple support article for recovery mode : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1808
