I dont know if this is an issue or not, but Ive just noticed this.
My iPhones screen appears to have a border runnign around it of two or three blank pixels. It runs right the way around the edge of the screen. The main image the screen projects shows in full but appears a touch squashed.
Ive reboot and hard reset the phone, but no improvement. Ive looked in the settings menu but there is nothing for screen/image size.
I havent dropped it and there is no water damage. I noticed the screen didnt look right just after i finished a phone call.
Any suggestions?
EDIT - Incidentally, im running on OS 3.0.1

really? phew, I feel like such a noob now. I had never noticed it before is all. I suppose its like the first time you see a dead pixel on a TFT monitor, you then dont stop noticing it. Thanks

That is a real problem but apple says that it is normal. If so why doesnot it happen on all iphone. It usually happens on 7xxxxx versions iphone. The one with 5xxxxx versions are safer.
Now, even ipods have such problems. My ipod touch showed that faint grid around the screen after 14 days of the purchased date.
When i went to ask the Apple store here in China, he said thats normal. I was so disappointed. I want to replace that with new one because it has hardly been 17 days.
Apple should repair such product.
May be you can have a try. I heard they repair in some places.

I experienced the same issue after leaving my iPod Touch in a glove while charging. But alas, I was able to fix the problem myself...and with a bit of ease too.
Try this:

Open any web browser on your device (preferebly one with full-screen mode functionality) and navigate to-

http://www.pspdemocenter.com/files/apps/pdc_pixelfixer.php

It is in fact PDC's (PSP Demo Center) pixel-fixer. It doesn't matter that this pixel-fixer was intended for the PSP because all it is is an animated .gif image that blinks red, blue, and green in rapid succession.
Let this image just animate (preferebly in full-screen mode) for about 15 or 20 minutes. Then just press the sleep/lock button and let your device sit with a dark screen for about a minute or two. That should take care of any pixel errors or artifacts. If it doesn't work the first time, just repeat the process until it does. It worked for me on the first try. Hopefully this will help somebody with this issue.
